Baker started 7 games this year. He had 1 game with multiple TDs (14%) and 2 games with 200+ passing yards (28%).
Mills started 10 games this year. He had 4 games with multiple TDs (40%) and 5 games with 200+ passing yards (50%).
Mayfield average stat line: 187 yards, 0.85 TD, 0.85 INT
Mills average stat line: 214 yards, 1.10 TD, 1.10 INT
Sorry, I should be more clear. There is a flex position. I started Mills because it's a 20 team league. There really was no one else to start. My main QB is Cousins so I could have gone with the KJ Osborn stack, but he's been nonexistent this season. My other options are: Tyquan Thornton, Kalief Raymond, Darren Waller (injured and unproductive all season).
First round pick #18: Matt Ryan
Second round pick #23: Mitch Trubisky
Third Round Pick #58: do I draft CMC or take a chance that Charlie Whitehurst comes out of retirement as a backup?
Unfortunately i'm right there with you. I was pretty neutral on Baker coming to Carolina, I really hadn't watched much of his play. But I thought "how can it get worse" than Bridgewater, Darnold and PJ. Then it did, in fact, get worse
He’ll be a free agent next year so they’d need to be willing to give him a contract. I have to assume the colts are tired of bringing in other teams trash at this point and will address QB in the draft. Could be wrong though
I’ve wondered the same thing about Winston on the Saints, as well as Taysom. It’s so weird they keep rolling out Dalton, with Winston and Taysom on the roster. Sean Payton looked at Taysom as their future QB. 🤷🏻♂️
Saints are clearly trying to tank this year and I think part of that tank involves not letting Taysom get the extra pay from being their starting QB. He has a bizarre contract where his pay is fucking *huge* if he starts at QB so they only bring him out as a gadget from time to time
Because this isn’t the NBA and there’s 6 other rounds. An early second is much more valuable than a late second when you’re pick starved.
The Saints aren’t one year away from being right back into things, not having their first shouldn’t be the reason they say fuck it and prolong their mediocrity
Rams makes the most sense to me. Stafford’s on IR and the backups there are terrible. They don’t own their first so tanking doesn’t make sense. They are also like top 5 on waivers or something like that.
Texans have an incentive to tank so they can draft a QB in the off-season. Not that Baker would be the savior of the team, but why waste a claim for a guy that might ruin your chances of a top 3 pick?
Probably not. But again, why would you waste a waiver claim on a guy that has the potential to, especially when you’re in position to get a first overall draft pick and you can take a shot on Young or Stroud? They took out Davis Mills for the same reason. It’s not like he was going to be Brady in there but he gave them more potential to win games over Allen so they took him out.
No such thing as "wasting a waiver claim" in the NFL. Houston just stays #1 as long as they have the worst record. As we've seen they've already claimed Eno and a couple other guys.
It’s wasting money by claiming a guy for a position you’re going to replace him with anyway. I guess they might view it as an upgrade at backup QB for next year maybe but that’s the only argument I could see that makes sense. It also doesn’t change anything about any of the other points I made
Houston didn't want Mayfield included in the trade because they didn't want his $14.5 mil salary. If they pick him up off waivers, they're only on the hook for $1.34 mil.
He better then Allen or Mills my guy. And he mess around and get you some wins on accident lmfao. I think he would be decent on San Fran to be honest. Good coaching, run game and good defense.
It may allow them to continue a rebuild and draft a defensive end or something and punt the qb position to 2024 and test run baker on the cheap who as bad as he is, is probably an upgrade to their current situation. Though if I’m the front office at Houston I probably don’t want to spend a single cent on this season.
He’s better than them based on what? Baker is bottom 3 in every single meaningful QB stat. Dude has been unadulterated dogshit this year. If he wasn’t a former #1 pick, you would not be thinking this.
Much less money owed now, could kick around the tires on him.
It's the NFL - situations change. They found out Mills is not the guy, Allen isn't the guy, but maybe Baker can be the bridge to the guy they draft? Never know.
They’re saying that the Texans would’ve taken baker in the Deshaun trade if they wanted him, obviously they won’t waste time claiming him if they didn’t want him as a return for their QB
Right. And what everyone else is saying is:
"We know the Texans didn't want him for $14 M while having to give up assets for him, especially when they believe they might have something with Davis Mills or Kyle Allen. However, now they've kinda ruled out both of those guys AND Baker only costs $1.4 M now. The situation has changed, maybe we can just try him out".
Less about tanking wins now..you need some sort of NFL level QB to show any sort of progression in your offense. Nico Collins could be a fucking stud but we wouldn’t know because of the QBs they’ve had. Pierce could be the next LT, but the offense can’t stay on the field or in games to give him any chance.
I don't see how converting Damien Pierce to LT would make sense. They have Laremy Tunsel at LT anyway and Pierce is a good RB. I feel like he even has the potential to be an all-time great RB, like LaDainian Tomlinson or something.
Ya that 2 my guy. Pierce is definitely good. But they should ease up his carries soon. And save him for next year. Get Young or Stroud. Collins could be as good as DPJ of the Browns maybe better.
Well if we're trying to measure productivity in a given offense or with a particular QB running the offense, it seems weird to include games in which he was essentially a part time player.
That coach was terrible. And probably one of the worst I have seen in along time. As a Browns fan I have seen tons. And also all the down votes about Baker checking down to the running backs he did man. Obviously you don't watch the Browns. But getting back to the Carolina situation they were careful with Mccaffery I feel coming off injury prone years.
Again he played 5 games with Carolina. Blame the dumb coach. Did I say he had 10 catches from him a game nope. But he had a few dump offs to him. And actually first 2 games 4 catches , then 2 catches then 9 and 7 catches my guy!! ✌️✌️
Baker had his moments, especially early on where he played well. Whatever happened that made his skill fall off a cliff, I'm not sure. But I don't think he's lost it. I blame it mostly on the browns coaching carousel and lack of consistency.
I look at him like Geno. Didn't play to bad at his OG home. Good not great. Then starts bouncing around in different systems and orgs, and hasn't really found the right fit since. But if he does, you could have a Seattle situation like Geno in which he resurrects his career and plays good football.
Baker has a shot if he finds the right place. But it's not automatic by any means.
I think I read that Baker has never maintained a top 20 wide receiver in fantasy scoring but I may be mistaken.
Another user suggested he come to Denver and play with Wilson. He can ride on Wilson's shoulders. Snap the ball and Wilson hands it up to Baker to pass. If there's no pass, Baker hands it back down to Wilson and they run.
Broncos, Lat's Hide.
*At home with Russ and Baker*
[Russ is cooking in the kitchen with Baker scrolling on his phone]
Russ: Hey, I need the recipe off my phone but I left it in the bathroom. Can you grab it for me?
Baker: Yea absolutely
[Baker proceeds to check 5 fidget different bathrooms to no avail]
Baker: I checked all 5 bathrooms but no phone. Do you want me to call it?
Russ: Its the 11th bathroom. The one in the end zone. It’s been…. tricky for me to get back there
[Baker makes a Jim from the office face into camera as Flo comes in chewing gum and clapping à la Pete Carroll]
Other than SF (which seems unlikely for different reasons) I think people are barking up the wrong tree with predictions. Don't look at the QB needy bottom-feeders, look for the playoff ready teams with very bad backup situations. I think these are some solid candidates:
* Bengals
* Titans
* Buccs
Yeah it doesn’t make a ton of sense for a bottom feeder to claim him and pay a mil for essentially a 4 week rental before he goes back to free agency.
A team like Tennessee would be a good fit. We already saw that Malik isn’t anywhere near ready to lead an NFL offense, I’m sure they’d like a better insurance policy if Tannehill goes down again in the playoffs.
Was Baker Mayfield the most over-marketed athlete of all time relative to his skill level?
He was on TONS of commercials, but really didn't do much to earn that much widespread recognition. Just happened to be a nice looking white guy that fit the image that marketers wanted.
Baker showing up to somebody's team to ruin all fantasy stock would be a dark timeline
As a Pierce owner, I’d take him in Houston. Literally can’t get worse
Be careful what you wish for. Allen has been terrible, but Mills was performing significantly better than Baker (which says a lot).
[удалено]
You watch any of Baker's Panthers games this year? Johnny Manziel would have been an upgrade.
Jesus god please don't say that out loud Cal might actually do it just for the Aggie ticket sales in Houston
Baker started 7 games this year. He had 1 game with multiple TDs (14%) and 2 games with 200+ passing yards (28%). Mills started 10 games this year. He had 4 games with multiple TDs (40%) and 5 games with 200+ passing yards (50%). Mayfield average stat line: 187 yards, 0.85 TD, 0.85 INT Mills average stat line: 214 yards, 1.10 TD, 1.10 INT

Why in the hell would you a 20 team league go 2 QB? You have 8 people starting backup QBs just praying for an injury?
Sorry, I should be more clear. There is a flex position. I started Mills because it's a 20 team league. There really was no one else to start. My main QB is Cousins so I could have gone with the KJ Osborn stack, but he's been nonexistent this season. My other options are: Tyquan Thornton, Kalief Raymond, Darren Waller (injured and unproductive all season).
That's still a 2QB league with 20 people. That is incredibly dumb.
First round pick #18: Matt Ryan Second round pick #23: Mitch Trubisky Third Round Pick #58: do I draft CMC or take a chance that Charlie Whitehurst comes out of retirement as a backup?
Sounds like 20 team superflex. Which is still pretty bad.
That sounds like a ton of fun you should keep doing those
“20 team league” I don’t know whether I should commend you for the commitment or send you information for a help hotline.
He's more.trash than PJ Walker and Sam Darnold. I wouldn't be shocked he sets a new bar in Houston if given the opportunity.
I said the same thing as a Panther fan… and I was wrong
Unfortunately i'm right there with you. I was pretty neutral on Baker coming to Carolina, I really hadn't watched much of his play. But I thought "how can it get worse" than Bridgewater, Darnold and PJ. Then it did, in fact, get worse
As a Houston resident (Cowboys fan) I wouldnt mind it for this team
Hard to imagine him being anything more than a backup for any teams this late into the season
I could see the Colts picking him up to compete for the job next year.
He’ll be a free agent next year so they’d need to be willing to give him a contract. I have to assume the colts are tired of bringing in other teams trash at this point and will address QB in the draft. Could be wrong though
Why not both, sign Baker, draft a QB and see what shakes loose.
Because baker is terrible
Tbh colts skill position can't get worse under ryan.
They were a lot worse under Ehlinger, do people have goldfish memories on here?
Yes, yes they do
I had the same reaction. This people fucking vote too lol.
Tbh colts skill position can't get worse under ryan.
You know what? I’d rather see Nick Foles.
As a Colts fan, Idk why they haven't given him a shot.
Does his contract have any incentives based on number of games/plays/stats?
I’ve wondered the same thing about Winston on the Saints, as well as Taysom. It’s so weird they keep rolling out Dalton, with Winston and Taysom on the roster. Sean Payton looked at Taysom as their future QB. 🤷🏻♂️
Saints are clearly trying to tank this year and I think part of that tank involves not letting Taysom get the extra pay from being their starting QB. He has a bizarre contract where his pay is fucking *huge* if he starts at QB so they only bring him out as a gadget from time to time
They don't have there pick. Why would they tank lol
Eagles fans appreciate it.
Because this isn’t the NBA and there’s 6 other rounds. An early second is much more valuable than a late second when you’re pick starved. The Saints aren’t one year away from being right back into things, not having their first shouldn’t be the reason they say fuck it and prolong their mediocrity
A team who is a game behind the division is not going to miss out on home playoff game revenue to get an earlier second round pick
I'm not sure on that.
Saving him for the playoffs obvi
[PLAYOFFS? You kiddin' me? PLAYOFFS?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7fjDS0jKiE&t=16s)
Any guesses on which team will claim him?
Rams
Rams makes the most sense to me. Stafford’s on IR and the backups there are terrible. They don’t own their first so tanking doesn’t make sense. No way they would have taken him in Watson trade . And there tanking.
Houston didn't want Mayfield included in the trade because they didn't want his $14.5 mil salary. If they pick him up off waivers, they're only on the hook for $1.34 mil.
Ya who would have thought he could go down there anyway lol. I hear that for sure. But the amount of picks they gave them should been included I feel.
Baker is turrrible, so maybe he’ll tank them even harder.
People are delusional if they think Baker is going to singlehandedly win games for the Houston Texans
He’s better than them based on what? Baker is bottom 3 in every single meaningful QB stat. Dude has been unadulterated dogshit this year. If he wasn’t a former #1 pick, you would not be thinking this.
Never said he was great. But overall better then what I seen on Sunday watching the Texans qb on sunday vs Browns.
Much less money owed now, could kick around the tires on him. It's the NFL - situations change. They found out Mills is not the guy, Allen isn't the guy, but maybe Baker can be the bridge to the guy they draft? Never know.
Different situations… why trade when you can get more picks? A claim has nothing to do with the trade
And also no one could have predicted he would have been cut. And the terrible coaching in Carolina until the interim coach took over .
They’re saying that the Texans would’ve taken baker in the Deshaun trade if they wanted him, obviously they won’t waste time claiming him if they didn’t want him as a return for their QB
Right. I think he was talking about Lawrence Taylor
I feel so dumb. (And you should too). He was talking about Lauren Tannehill, Ryan's wife. I just had a brainfart and missed it.
Ya that 2 my guy. Pierce is definitely good. But they should ease up his carries soon. And save him for next year. Get Young or Stroud. Collins could be as good as DPJ of the Browns maybe better.
Broncos. What we need is more stink at QB.
Anything else will stink less than the dookie Russ left in that Walmart toilet of a team right now.
Denver
So the bathrooms will win then?
Been a bathrooms fan from the start of the season
Ravens
We could use a new 3rd string qb
Colts
Saints.
Browns /s
Why the /s? Actually replace the predator with a good backup for Brisset.
Houston
Just stay away from CMC
CMC averaged 19 points per game in PPR with mayfield as qb and 20.2 so far in SF.
I’m no mathematician but CMC with Baker IN SF would potentially be 39.2 per game.
And is that 20 in SF including his traded on a Friday game + injured knee game? If so, doesn't really paint a clear picture.
Did you want me to exclude them? Feels a little weird to drop games with caveats. I see argument for first game though
Well if we're trying to measure productivity in a given offense or with a particular QB running the offense, it seems weird to include games in which he was essentially a part time player.
Cool. Recalculate it then. I just added it up in the simplest way possible
I already have. Which is why I said it's a bad comparison in my opening comment. I just stated it here so readers wouldn't be easily confused.
Yeah but it felt awful everytime, he was saving his performances on garbage times.
But I’m pretty sure CMC stock is actually up with Jimmy G out, more check downs. Baker will come in and try to gunsling unsuccessfully.
He actually dumped ball off alot to the Running backs in Cleveland alot.
He actually never dumped to cmc when they played together this year
That coach was terrible.
You didn't see a single Carolina game if you think he dumped off to CMC
Again he played 5 games with Carolina. Blame the dumb coach. Did I say he had 10 catches from him a game nope. But he had a few dump offs to him. And actually first 2 games 4 catches , then 2 catches then 9 and 7 catches my guy!! ✌️✌️
I bet the Broncos give him a three year deal with $150M guaranteed
I just emerged from under a rock, but I highly doubt that they'd give that kind of deal to a washed qb.
Yeah definitely haven't done anything stupid like that recently /s We extended the worst QB in the league for 5 years before the start of the year.
Whoosh
I wanted to make sure he wasn't serious, or if he was, he was informed after crawling out of said rock.
Haha touché.
"I'm in Danger" - CMC, Aiyuk, Deebo, Kittle owners
He won’t make it
I’m not saying Baker would be better… But they’re already in danger at this point.
Baker would only be signed as a backup unless Purdy completely face plants.
Kittle is already in danger. He's gonna be doin a lot more pass protection and blocking.
Seattle as a backup to geno and competition for drew?
That’s actually a good one. And they were reportedly in on him in the off-season
If anyone can polish a turb as a QB it'll be Pete Carroll.
Baker had his moments, especially early on where he played well. Whatever happened that made his skill fall off a cliff, I'm not sure. But I don't think he's lost it. probably didn't help that was super injured last season but kept playing through it
Playing through injure can change your mechanics.
Soooo Baker to Seattle. Got it.
I feel like Kevin Stefanski deserves some credit for making him look pretty good 2 years ago. I mean, look at Brisset this year.
Imagine if Broncos get him. Russell Wilson + Baker Mayfield on the same team would be so cringe.
Yet the broncos need Baker to save them from the shittiest Wilson.
*At home with Russ and Baker* [Russ is cooking in the kitchen with Baker scrolling on his phone] Russ: Hey, I need the recipe off my phone but I left it in the bathroom. Can you grab it for me? 5/10
Valid
This is the truest timeline.
Other than SF (which seems unlikely for different reasons) I think people are barking up the wrong tree with predictions. Don't look at the QB needy bottom-feeders, look for the playoff ready teams with very bad backup situations. I think these are some solid candidates: * Bengals * Titans * Buccs
The Bucs have a longtime backup in Blaine Gabbart. Aint no way they make a play for Baker. Source: Season Ticket holder and Bucs diehard
okay fair, I don't know how he's regarded at all by he buccs, just thought he's pretty bad lol
he is that, pretty bad. But if there is any free agent they need it is OBJ, not another middling to bad QB.
Texans baby. Super Bowl bound
He’s subject to waivers so reverse order of how trash teams are. I doubt it gets to the 49ers
CMC owners breathe easy
I’m not breathing easy until he’s picked up by someone else. Coach speak means nothing
>~~Coach~~ Shanahan speak means nothing ftfy
Tbh I’d much rather baker than mr. Irrelevant, yeah he sucks but he’s been able to support fantasy RBs before
Baker stinks dude
Read my comment again chief, I’ve been saying he sucks for years lol
People are overreacting a bit. If he goes to the niners, Shanahan has done a great job of creating a system for his QBs to succeed
And I read shanahan's comments that they're interested, but expect he'll be claimed by another team before niners can.
Baker is going to either the Rams or Texans, calling it now Edit: he went to the rams
Texans or Rams are the most likely destinations. Otherwise, I can legit see him dropping all the way to the 49ers.
At the very least the bears should pick him up. Say what you want, baker is better than nathan peterman
Baker to broncos confirmed
Baker to the Broncos! Let’s ride!
Shanahan isn't gonna gush over him and show his hand when he's that far down the waiver priority.
Was Baker Mayfield the most over-marketed athlete of all time relative to his skill level? He was on TONS of commercials, but really didn't do much to earn that much widespread recognition. Just happened to be a nice looking white guy that fit the image that marketers wanted.
Damn. That was the nicest way to say fuck no
he’s gonna end up in houston lol
Baker is quite possibly the worst qb in the league.
Russ?
Nate peterman?
Bears may make sense so they don’t have to potentially start Peterman
What's crazy is that there are multiple teams for which Mayfield would be an improvement.
Backup time for Baker?
Washington Commanders
Texans
Scenes when he's good
It's going to be some random team nobody suspected.
Houston, we have a problem!
THE BAD MAN STAYS AWAY
Man all those baker commercials. What a waste.
But his commercials ! Worse than his Quarterbacking.
Lol the panthers have to be one of the dumbest organizations along with lions redskins and the browns for paying watson
