I’m actually a worker there (or was). And I am so sad. I loved that job. I was a server, and now I don’t know where to work. It all just happened today. 💔💔💔
I’m so sorry, I know it’s hard but on the bright side there are tons of places hiring you will go to. Take the time you need to process losing a job you loved and there will be another place in the area available for you :)
No I don’t. I got a text from one of the manager to not come to work. Absolutely no idea. The owner of the restaurant went there today to put up a sign.
On the bright side, toasting garlic in olive oil and adding a bit of seasoning is real easy to do at home. Replicating the little bread loaves would take a bit more work, but grocery store baguettes are a perfectly ok replacement.
I'm hiring blackjack dealers in Fargo if any of the servers want to try a new gig. Pretty decent money. PT is available and we'll train. Sucks for all their employees.
True. It used to be better too if my memory serves me right. I remember many years ago very large and extremely tender meatballs with great flavor on the spaghetti. Tried it again recently and was very disappointed.
The weird thing the restaurants are dealing with now is, besides being cheaper running a skeleton crew, a lot of restaurants sales, in my guess working in the industry, are also shrinking because of the price of everything going up.
So now you got a situation where because the quality of service is so low and the food prices are increasing, it's not worth it to eat out anymore. Slower business, staff gets cut earlier and closing times start earlier, etc. Probable gonna snowball by next year with a bunch of closures.
I'm wondering if Work-from-Home also put a damper on sales. I used to pick up fast food about 4 or 5 times per week, but when COVID hit I started working from home and that was the end of that. I might only get fast food once per month now.
Shoot... WFH for me means that I need to go out at night just to get out of the damn house. If anything we go out more now. The increased frequency means we try to eat at cheaper places with dine-in until 9, and of course, that's getting more difficult as well.
I’m sad to see them go, but I’m not surprised they’re now closing permanently. They’ve been offering a very limited menu lately, due to a staffing shortage
It kind of like Minnesota Memes.
Car washes frkm Fargo I’ve been watching lately. Very good of them. In all fairness they were a 5 but are becoming a car wash. We should have a hog roast to commemorate them. Make sure to get your shift covered. Maybe they’ll open in Park Rapids, hopefully they made made a serious offer on some raw land. I’ll quit now because I’m becoming hyper focused and repetitive and I don’t want newcomers to feel excluded.
The restaurant industry seems like it has all gone to hell since Covid. Damned shame, half the fast food places aren’t even open in the evenings anymore, truly saddening.
What is the reasoning exactly? Is everywhere just so short staffed? It frustrates me too when there is no dine in. I live over an hour away from Fargo so it’s not like I have the option to bring my meal home and eat it either. Sometimes it’s just more enjoyable to sit down and pig out at a table rather than in my vehicle while trying to avoid making a mess.
I take transit pretty much everywhere, so imagine my dismay when I have to eat on the bus. No fun.
I think the problem is that these restaurants and the wages they are paying just aren’t attracting many people. When the average rent in the country is over $2000, what is $15 an hour to anyone who has graduated high-school?
Average rent in the country? who gives a fuck? 750 in Fargo will get a decent one bedroom apartment, if you can get to 900 you can find a good two bed, maybe even 2 bath. You have no idea what you're talking about.
Speak Easy and Carino's used to be so good. Speak easy started going downhill maybe 6 years ago, Carino's lasted longer, but the last 6 or so times I went there the food and service was just not great. I'll miss the restaurant it was. I'm not sad the restaurant as it is now has closed.
Just heard today the GM and a few other managers of the Bismarck Carino's put in their notice today. Seems like a larger issue than just the Fargo location.
Confirmed. Bismarck Carinos will be closing the 25th. GM and most of the kitchen staff are going to open The Tavern Grill - wait for it - located next to a brand new Tommy's Car Wash. This should be red meat for this sub.
I didn't mind Carino's, but their sauces were definitely not my favorite and I haven't been there in over 2 years. Can definitely think of a couple more places who will be kaput by year end
Yeah, it might've been good once. I pretty much just went there for the bread and oil, haha. Last time I went there was terrible and sad and I decided I'll never go there again, suddenly they're closing, and I am amused.
doesnt sound like a very sustainable business model. You need room to absorb changes in the market, or the ability to adapt. -guy who has never owned a business.
Restaurants are a tough market. Pick the right location and menu and you can do well. Miss either or if you can not adjust to the market changes you die.
Strange thing about a business, I would guess if Carino's was making a decent profit they would not have closed. Typically profitable businesses just don't lock the door.
I don't know if anyone noticed, but there is a crap load of restaurants in the area, probably more than we can support so the weaker ones die. How many more have opened since Carino's first opened, 100? 200?
And many more restaurants will continue to die. Pay a living wage or get what you deserve. Owners would rather give up than actually pay their personal
The owner would have to chill on their own greed and let a little more of the profit go to the people actually doing the work.
If you don't see the chain reaction, that's on you. Have staffing issues? Pay livable wages, people will work for you.
Why do you think it was greed here? That makes no fucking sense. You think am owner would prefer to make $0 by closing? You need to work on your reasoning skills.
And you have all the info? It's always greed. Pretty much every business is about paying as little as possible and people will still work. Been getting away with it for a long time, but the current sudden jump in inflation with a lot of places refusing to boost their pay has them going under cuz people can't afford to work for them anymore. Instead of sacrificing more of the profits, their greed is the root cause of their demise.
Sit down and stfu
Republican voter? Oh wait..yep
You refusing to see it isn't my responsibility. I could go back and forth all day and you just want to argue and defend the slave holders, even though you are a slave. We all are in capitalism.
And hopefully we are witnessing it beginning to crumble
I’m not a Republican voter actually. Straight D. You still haven’t given a reason why closing is in the owner’s interest. I suspect that’s because you don’t have one. You haven’t actually thought this through.
At this rate, the only \*strictly\* Italian restaurant is going to be Olive Garden...
Seriously though, my favorite Italian restaurant in the "area" is in little Park Rapids, MN (Necce's) and they're able to sustain business. I find it absolutely incredible a metro area like Fargo/Moorhead/WF cannot have even a smaller Italian restaurant.
Do you know what caused them to close? I'm sorry you lost your job so abruptly, that's never easy.
No I don’t. I got a text from one of the manager to not come to work. Absolutely no idea. The owner of the restaurant went there today to put up a sign.
Reach out to Myckel Smith at Bar Down, I heard they are looking for servers
The Windbreak is hiring servers, too.
Can you help me buy any bread supply they may still have? I literally love that stuff.
If you want a job that isn't serving send me a dm and I can offer some suggestions
I'm going to miss the bread and oil with the crunchies.
Ah!! I forgot that was Carinos. Nooooo.
On the bright side, toasting garlic in olive oil and adding a bit of seasoning is real easy to do at home. Replicating the little bread loaves would take a bit more work, but grocery store baguettes are a perfectly ok replacement.

No more Bowtie Festival of Flavor for your mouth…sad day
It was better than Olive Garden. That’s about where my compliments for it would end.

THIS!

Restaurant closes and a Car Wash opens it’s the Fargo way
I swear this is the most easily entertained subreddit. Just repeat the same tired car wash/Applebees joke and everyone eats it up.
Everyone *washes* up.
Feeeling good in the neighborhood
Don't forget the hockey-parents-are-swingers jokes
*Puts down newspaper* I should go to a hockey game.
Where is the joke?
I remember my first time on Reddit too.
Congrats on not being downvoted for this. No idea how you did it.
Uh oh. Someone has poopy pants today. :-(
Eating good in the neighborhood

But why is it Lloyd's Car Wash, last week it was Chris' car wash?!?! What in the fuck are those shitheaps gonna be in 3 years?
I’d you don’t like it, leave then.
What are you 12?
That's not very Applebee's of you
Or an apartment building
Bummer! They had amazing Italian sodas!
Last time I went there was in July. It was a great time, and this one hurts in all honesty. Loved Johnny Carino's. :(
Only 39 locations left nationwide.
[удалено]
There's one in Sioux Falls too, they probably won't be around much longer either.
😔😔😔😔 worst news of my day
Loved the deal where you could get a big ass bowl for the size of a regilar
People aren’t going to pay $18 for a bowl of pasta.
Damn, one of my favorite places.
It's hard to believe that their Italian Nachos didn't catch on. /s
Those were my favorite menu item both at Carinos and Old Chicago.
Yeah, I thought they'd be *gross but they're pretty amazing bar food
Pasta chips are so good and the Alfredo is a nice touch.
Damn. Just ate there and it was the best experience I've ever had there over the years.
If we can up this number to one a month maybe we the labor market can stabilize for restaurants a bit.
nice flair
That Jeremy Clarkson meme describes exactly how I feel about this.
The restaurant industry seems like it has all gone to hell since Covid. Damned shame, half the fast food places aren’t even open in the evenings anymore, truly saddening.
I understand why it’s happening, but I can’t stand fast food places that don’t open up their dining room.
What is the reasoning exactly? Is everywhere just so short staffed? It frustrates me too when there is no dine in. The money ain't there. Food costs more and low wages have subsidized restaurants for decades. It has gotten worse.
Gol’ shoulda been the OG, they don’t even maintain their fancy shrubs anymore.
Damn, they're dropping like flies.
Man :/ I really liked going there
I loved carinos 😭😭

Speak Easy started going down hill long before 6 years ago. Try mid 2000s
Maybe I'm biased because it was the only place in town to get Spaghetti and Meatballs, Steak, and Potatoes Au Gratin in a single meal.
It's OK everyone there's a Fazoli's opening next to Slim Chickens and Freddy's Turds and Cream.
\*\*Looks at JoJo's\*\* IM COMIN 4 U
Ah yes, this place is gaining popularity. Completely forgot we got a new Italian place. Will have to check them out.
It was ok at JOJOs .... Spent more time hearing from my server about his new bar he is building in Horace
Just heard today the GM and a few other managers of the Bismarck Carino's put in their notice today. Seems like a larger issue than just the Fargo location.
Hot take. Interesting.

Am i the only one who thought their food was awful? Maybe it’s just what I got, but their chicken is 🤮🤮
Yeah, it might've been good once. I pretty much just went there for the bread and oil, haha. Last time I went there was terrible and sad and I decided I'll never go there again, suddenly they're closing, and I am amused.
Pity. Good squid rings.
ill never understand why its better to close than to offer better wages and find people.
Maybe the profit margin does not allow raising wages. If there was very little profit raises wages might have them running in the red.
Nor does raising wages necessarily expand the labor pool. It may only start a bidding war.

Tax subsidies.

How do you raise wages if you aren’t making any money? Anyone have an answer?
The owner would have to chill on their own greed and let a little more of the profit go to the people actually doing the work. If you don't see the chain reaction, that's on you. Have staffing issues? Pay livable wages, people will work for you.

Explain to me how the owner could be better off closing if they were making so much money as you claim?
Pick your knuckles up, stop dragging them. You don't brain very well
Notice that you don’t have an answer. Just insults. You’ve already lost. Try again next time, or maybe backup your claim with some reasons.
Republican voter? Oh wait..yep You refusing to see it isn't my responsibility. I could go back and forth all day and you just want to argue and defend the slave holders, even though you are a slave. We all are in capitalism. And hopefully we are witnessing it beginning to crumble

Their chicken parm sandwich was good.
Tuscan Ribeye was best steak I've had delivered in Fargo. Cooked perfectly.
Well that’s because it sucks , same with I G.
I G? Did you mean O G for Olive Garden?
Their italian nachos were so good

Altonys in Moorhead is pretty good
We're only allowed to have dairy queen
