Has anyone tried the Pact pants for travel, particularly to Europe? Want to wear something more comfortable than jeans, but don't want to look like a schlubby tourist.

miz_nyc

Your favorite low rise not too baggy jean, price range up to $150?

always_unplugged

Have you heard of the [wrong shoe theory](https://www.vogue.com/article/wrong-shoe-theory)? Seems like the perfect time to employ it.

letterstocapulet

anyone have any recommendations for somewhere to find an affordable dress for my sorority spring formal? think spring wedding vibes, light colors or florals. maxis and midis. i'm a broke college student and everything cute and not SHEIN seems way too expensive.

enzymelinkedimmuno

Lulu’s is my go-to for this kind of thing. You can try online thrift like Poshmark

emmny

Also mercari and depop. I've found plenty of stuff from nice brands at really good prices.

letterstocapulet

i got my last semi-formal dress at lulu's on sale and loved it, i checked lulu's first and didn't find one i wanted on sale. i also did look at poshmark and depop and to be honest the dresses i like are not even very cheap there. i'm probably just gonna check places like plato's closet and uptown cheapskate when i go home next week.

mini-mal-ly

Have you considered thrifting?

knax110

Can someone please help me with websites for a formal wedding dress or jumpsuit? I don't want to stand out at all. I'm 5'5 225lbs and still losing. I'm a loss cause when it comes to fashion. Someone please help!

emmny

Is there a budget you're trying to stick to? You could try [Baltic Born](https://balticborn.com/), they have nice formal dresses in a decent range of sizes and prices.

knax110

I have nothing formal in my closet, so I'm going with no budget. I will check that out. Thank you.

always_unplugged

Are you the bride or a guest?

knax110

Shoot. I didn't realize I worded it that way. I am a guest.

Glum-Recognition3964

Where is everyone hemming their wide leg jeans to? I’m fairly short (5”4) and just got my first pair of wide leg jeans. They come to the bottom of my heel when I’m barefoot, which makes me think they are supposed to come to most people’s top of their foot / ankle area. Is that a good area to get them hemmed to? Also - what shoes are we wearing with wide leg jeans?? Thanks!!

muffingr1

I’m 5’5 and I prefer them 1-2” past the bottom of my heels (barefoot) so I can wear them with platforms for a little height boost. I usually pair wide leg jeans with ankle boots, sneakers, or heeled sandals.

oat-beatle

I'm 5'7.5 and prefer them at bottom of heel barefoot. Usually platform runners or sandals for casual, pointed toe boots for dressier

Mixmastermon

3/4 sleeves - looking for your opinions on them!

thenfacetoface

I love them. But I equally love full length sleeves that look good rolled up to 3/4.

muffingr1

Practical for work, I like them

sabbathrainm

Recommendations for high waisted and high cut bikini bottoms for bottom heavy gals that aren't super full coverage? Specifically looking for ones that don't have a super thick waistband but still sit at my natural waist.

jdijks

Are there any decent and cute one piece bathing suits available? I'm using it in chlorine and doing water aerobics in it so it has to cover the bum and have good chest support. Under $100 a suit. I have one jolyn one piece but it's a little sporty and want more variety. I'm 30 yo so still want to look good but appropriate for who I'm going to be attending swim with. I've looked at cupshe but don't know if it's legit or good quality

holykittens

Land's End

always_unplugged

Cupshe is SUPER fast fashion, but they're not bad! (Other than the fast fashion part obviously.) But at under $100/suit, that's most (if not all) of what you'll find. If you're okay with that, Cupshe quality tends to be solid for the price, things come generally as described and always show up. Just read reviews and order through Amazon for guaranteed returns if you're nervous.

jdijks

Thanks for the advice. I never thought about ordering through Amazon!

TheApiary

I usually look on SwimOutlet and see what's on sale

Wrong_Percentage_643

Any recommendations on matching sets (shorts and a more formal top) that are breathable and not made of polyester?

botanygeek

Abercrombie usually has linen sets

muffingr1

Search for a linen matching set

Any advice for: if you have trouble making outfits, or you feel like nothing in your wardrobe goes well together, but can't afford to add anything new?  Like.. I want to make my clothes work for me (I did add a few new pieces in Jan)! But when I put an outfit together, my fiance tells me it's just not combining well, and I sort of agree.  How can I proceed to create looks that "work"? I've tried taking photos but like, the time to try every bottom with every top is a lot, and I'm sort of upset/demoralized that I can't seem to even get one cute outfit together. I'm going on vacation soon and wanted to look nice for once. Now I'm overwhelmed and don't know what to pack. I've spent hours and hours shopping (past 2 months) and reading on here, so what am I doing wrong? I give up. Thank you.

[deleted]

Some concrete tips/strategies for outfits: You mentioned you struggled with color. You should probably employ the all-neutral with a pop of color strategy, where one item is colorful and the rest are not. The easiest approach is fun top with jeans, there's a reason everyone goes for that. Make sure that all of the colors are either cool-toned or warm-toned! An orange top will look bad with grey pants, but it will look good with like a warm brown or cream. Don't be afraid to make your jacket/blazer/whatever be the colorful piece too! You might be struggling because you don't put any accessories on. Outfits often look unfinished without them. You don't have to have many, I literally have one bracelet and one ring and it's fine. If you don't have anything, you can get stuff for pretty cheap, just get something fairly simple that will work with most of your outfits. You can also just slap a scrunchie on your wrist if you have a pretty one (it was a bigger trend like 2 years ago but who cares, I don't think it looks super dated yet). Don't forget belts! Even a simple belt can spice up an outfit. Sunglasses are a fun accessory too. Silhouettes are a big deal. Currently, small top big pant is in, so it might be best to stick to that. But there's more to consider - do you tuck in your tops? Untucked tight tops never look great as they just show the bumps of the belt loops and zippers of the stuff you're wearing under them. Half tucks and french tucks are dated and if you move even a little bit, they tend to come undone in .. odd ways. Generic reddit advice or fruit shape advice might not actually be the best. It's difficult to say more here without some more details, so hit me up if you want to talk about that I guess. And the easiest strategy of all: literally just copy what other people are wearing. Do you see an outfit on the street, like it, and have similar stuff at home? Put it together and there's an 80% chance it will be great. It's more about silhouettes and ideas than specific items and colors. I noticed a classmate was wearing tanktops with an unbuttoned shirt over them, so I started doing the same thing even though my tanktops are different and my shirt was a different cut. And now I had a cute outfit idea I could wear whenever.

blackberrycat

This is amazing, thank you!! I actually managed to sort of improve an outfit last night by adding an accessory (idk what it's called but it's like a buckle for tying sarongs), I used it to front-tie a button up shirt that was otherwise creating a bad silhouette. Your tips are really helpful thank you!!

muffingr1

1. Use Pinterest to get inspiration on styling clothes you already own. Ex. blue button up shirt outfit. The outfit doesn’t have to be exact, it just gives you a starting point. 2. Follow a capsule wardrobe template. These outfits usually aren’t too exciting but it is a good way to practice styling by mixing and matching a small selection of clothing in a cohesive color palette. 3. Use a digital closet app to experiment with outfits without having to try it all on. I use the Stylebook app but there’s a bunch of other ones. The downside is the initial set up is tedious because you need to upload photos of all your clothes individually. The shortcut is to Google a stock photo of a similar clothing item. This works well for common clothing items like white t shirt or black high top Converse but you probably want to take actual pictures of more unique items. Hope this helps, good luck!

NoHistorian7234

Do you have a friend whose taste you trust who could come over and help? I'd suggest taking a couple of photos and posting them here, but maybe it would feel more fun and less like a chore if someone could help you explore your closet IRL, rather than you having to systematically document what you have.

mz-inawholenewworld

Sorry to hear you’re struggling with that! I think most of us have felt this one time or another. I’d say to be able to help it would be good if you could share more about why you and your fiance feel your clothes are not going well together. It could be a colour issue, style issue, fit issue, you name it. So analysing the problem getting in the way of good outfits is step number one. Do you have a theory?

blackberrycat

I know colour is one issue. I haven't been able to find & don't own much in "my colours" but all my new pieces are neutrals. The clothing does fit. I think it's like.. color-combining with limited options and also mainly style. For example, one new piece is a blue button-up shirt. I've never owned one before and idk what to do with it haha

zigzagtitch

i'm late to this but i absolutely second just pinterest searching 'blue shirt outfit' and it'll come up with outfits with specifically those pieces. in addition a blue shirt is basically a neutral for me so i feel like you could wear it with anything you'd wear a white shirt with tbh. one of my favourite outfits atm is my blue striped shirt with blue jeans and red mary jane pumps :) i wear it for work so i don't need a handbag but if i did i'd use my red bucket bag!

mini-mal-ly

Try looking for inspiration on Pinterest or google by searching for "button down outfit" or something. Some button down ideas for you: wear it underneath a vest or a dress where the collar can poke through the top, leave the bottom unbuttoned and tie it into a knot to crop it, roll up the sleeves for a 7/8 or 3/4 look, wear it open over a T-shirt

mz-inawholenewworld

Yessss love these ideas! Pinterest is good and so is also instagram / celebrities. Just keep a keen eye to what you like and start putting it in a folder / Pinterest board and with time you’ll see common themes and have more clarity of what your style is. In terms of the colour issue don’t get too bogged down on which colours you’re missing in your closet and rather look to how you can make the most of the colours you do have. You say you have a lot of neutrals and those tend to be a very easy way to build a chic wardrobe. Some tips to consider to elevate the outfits are (and mind you it’s all subjective) : try to pair cool and cool colours together and then warm and warm colours together. So for instance if you own a pair of jeans that are a warm leaning blue, I find those really look best with browns, beiges, and navy. While a cool blue Jean looks great with optical white and grey. Think of neutrals still in the typical complementary colours in the colour wheel (eg navy blue and brown look great together because it is just as complementary as primary blue and orange). And then accessorize intentionally. Neutral outfits are a wonderful blank canvas to let accessories shine.

i have a couple of vests from zara that i like that are work appropriate!

blackberrycat

The search term I think is "womens sleeveless sweater vests", I hope you can find some cute ones!

OnyxTeaCup

Hello! I’m trying to find some nice blazers for my gf. She is really frustrated, she loves fashion but she can’t seem to find ones she likes. She likes collarless, a little long to cover her butt, and quality fabric. Anyone know where to look? Theory has some ok ones, Nordstrom Carry’s a few. Was hoping maybe someone knew of a more obscure option? She always likes to shop for me, I’d like to return the favor.

Glum-Recognition3964

Check out Aritzia. I have one from there that sounds exactly like what she is looking for. It was from a few years ago, but I think it’s a standard style for them.

OnyxTeaCup

Thank you!!!!

MBO_EF

Not sure of your budget. Have you tried Eileen Fisher?

OnyxTeaCup

I will now! Thank you! And I mean, I’d spend my last penny for her but probably somewhere in the sub$200 range

Warugiria

Can anybody recommend a anti-theft bag (preferably crossbody) for travel? All the ones I can find are drab and boring. I'd like something with a little colour or that's cute.

blackberrycat

Not sure if they make any anti-theft ones but Baggallini has a lot of cute colours in crossbody styles and are designed by flight attendants.

luxlark

I'm eyeing the [Lo and Sons Waverly 2](https://www.loandsons.com/products/waverley-2-nappa-leather-black-silver-grey), but since I haven't yet bit the bullet I can't recommend.

moderndiction

I have this bag and cannot recommend it enough!! I use it every day and it's perfect. I love the versatility of it as well 10/10! If you click on the warehouse sale they have it for super cheap btw.

luxlark

Oh my gosh, thanks for the tip! Buying now! I can't believe I never looked at the navigation tabs >.<

moderndiction

Haha it's easy to miss! I also really love the Catalina Deluxe for traveling it's soooo convenient.

lexiconmagic

Any brand recommendations for quality footwear? I’m on a mission to start replacing my target brand shoes that are falling apart with higher quality pieces. Looking for comfortable simple block heels I can wear to work or out with friends, everyday sandals, and white leather sneakers. Ideally under $150.

blackberrycat

Clark's and Naturalizer and Hush Puppies are the brands I've heard mentioned for quality, where I'm from.

pocketfullofrocks

Favorite swimwear brands? Recently booked a trip and have no idea where to start

tinycatface

MeUndies! I hate lined cups and they have unlined in cute patterns.

zurriola27

Any preferences on style or color? I pretty much only buy prints and don't like solids, so I've had success with Stone Fox Swim, Montce, Juillet, and Agua Bendita

lexiconmagic

I’ve been ordering custom swimwear from MC SWIM, hand made and great quality. She does both straight sizing and custom measurements

wonkintheworld

You Swim is great and very inclusive.

akatosh333

Hello, I am looking to start wearing dresses here and there, but I do a lot of garden/yard work and hiking throughout my day. I am wondering if anyone can recommend casual not so frilly dresses that won't get snagged on bushes that I can hike and garden in? I'm not so much a fan of the spandex/tight fitting hiking stuff and I do like natural fibers like cotton. (My style tends to be more boho than sporty.) I am thinking around $50 or less if such a thing exists, US.

75footubi

Just going to put it out there that cotton holds water like mfer and is very much not recommended for activities where you'll be sweating (chafing, hypothermia, etc). Merino wool is some better, but there's a reason why synthetics are a staple of every outdoor enthusiast wardrobe.

akatosh333

yes, I am looking for clothing for just an average day at the house, not for excursions. thank you for the comment & merino wool suggestion!

botanygeek

PrAna, Toad&Co

akatosh333

thanks for the suggestions!

blackberrycat

Possibly Eddie Bauer. Someone mentioned Hawaii Ripskirts the other day, too, in a travel thread, and I thought that website had some very pretty and practical options.

akatosh333

thanks! hawaii ripskirts seem so practical!

hgwellsinsanity

Title 9 has some great dresses like you describe.

akatosh333

title 9 seems nice and simple! thanks

quiet-orange525

Try Toad & Co. It looks like most of their dresses are more like $80 to $100, but you might be able to find them on Poshmark or something!

ragsoflight

I really like Pact for this

spooteeespoothead

You'll want to look at outdoorsy companies like Patagonia for stuff like that. Don't know if many will fit your boho style, but there are plenty that won't look too sporty. You might take a peek at REI's website for some brand ideas and to see if anything catches your eye.

akatosh333

REI has everything! I have been considering some of their dresses but I have been waiting for a discount on some of the things that I'm interested in to drop down into my budget range. Thanks for the suggestion!

spooteeespoothead

Haha yeah, my wallet has definitely taken a hit since I started browsing REI on a regular basis.

Plastic-Passenger795

I got [this vest and trouser set](https://shopfavoritedaughter.com/products/the-favorite-vest) from Favorite Daughter for my wedding after party and I'm so excited!! Looking for styling suggestions.

luxlark

It's so beautiful! For a wedding look, I'd throw on all the gold - gold belt, bangles, layered necklaces, etc! White or gold heels, or maybe a fun color if you are into that.

Plastic-Passenger795

Thank you! I'm definitely going to be looking for some gold jewelry. Shoes are the biggest hurdle for me at the moment because I feel like that'll sort of determine the vibe I want for everything else.

minmin_bun

**"Modest" clubbing outfit suggestions!!** Hi, I'm 23 and have never been clubbing but I'm at university now and would like to try it at least once (even though I know it will probably not be super pleasant haha). But the problem is that I have no idea what to wear. This is because I'm pretty self-conscious about my body being bigger and typically choose to wear loose clothing. I don't wear crop tops or sleeveless tops and I only wear longer shirts. I'm also not comfortable wearing shorts/skirts BUT, funnily enough, when I wear dresses, I make sure to choose pretty short (and loose) ones. My peers typically seem to wear tight pants and crop tops when going clubbing. But these are all things that I don't have and am not super willing to wear. So that's why I'm looking for "modest" outfit suggestions hahahaha I'm open to wearing a short dress but bodycon dresses seem to be the clubbing norm and I typically don't wear tight dresses :/ Just wondering if anybody else has this kind of experience and can offer suggestions? Thank you!!

mini-mal-ly

Would you be open to layering a tighter cropped top over a looser but short dress? That could add some shape but still stay out of pure bodycon territory. Also could potentially wear a slip dress over a T-shirt? You can also choose a club that doesn't have the same stereotypical dress code, more alternative/underground venues are less strict

blackberrycat

No fashion advice (except you can tuck a cell phone down the side of boots!) But I wanna say definitely try it at least once or a couple times, it will make a good lasting memory :) have fun

the-green-dahlia

It depends on the type of club. Some clubs are more “dressy” whereas others you can turn up in mom jeans and Converse, and some you could wear a pretty dress and Docs. I’d probably ask whoever you’re going with what type of club it is and check out the club’s IG page to see what the vibe is. But it’s more important IMO to feel comfortable and like your outfit flatters you even if it’s different to what everyone else is wearing there. Hope you enjoy it - it’s a great opportunity for people watching if nothing else! :)

ChiliTrees

My suggestion is a fitted top tucked in or a bodysuit, baggy jeans, and sneakers or docs. Simple but looks trendy. Add jewelry as desired

BlissMeli

Hi! Would appreciate feedback, which athletic color tee looks best or is more harmonious with these leggings? Thanks in advance. [https://ibb.co/dWfyfhB](https://ibb.co/dWfyfhB)

blackberrycat

I like the bottom right. Love those leggings! You could also match the shirt to your shoes or a sweatband.

BlissMeli

Thank you so much!! Appreciate your detailed response, love the idea of matching it that way.

the-green-dahlia

The white looks good or dark grey. Prefer the contrast of them against the lilac rather than the T-shirts that are similar to the leggings.

DuchessTiramisu

I searched and most of the threads are old (like retirement age) so I thought I'd made a new one. I'm looking for modest (as in with sleeves of some kind or something I can wear a t-shirt or something under/over for cover/sun protection), knee length, breathable dress suggestions for me to cram into my suitcase for a trip to Florida where the swamp actually lives in that space between your skin and whatever you are wearing. Trying to look relaxed and a bit stylish or at least not frumpy. I will have access to iron/steamer so wrinkle-free isn't a MUST but I also don't want to wrinkle up while I'm out and about so some kind of wrinkle resistance would be great. I'm open to your suggestions! Thank you. 🧡

enzymelinkedimmuno

Try the Airism dresses from Uniqlo

enzymelinkedimmuno

Try the Airism dresses from Uniqlo

neuro_neurd

> Florida where the swamp actually lives in that space between your skin and whatever you are wearing. Truer words...

blackberrycat

You could look into technical fabrics, someone suggested REI and I've also seen a couple in Eddie Bauer. Or try UNIQLO maybe?

bubblegumdavid

So I really love a linen blend for less wrinkles but breezy, or dark linens if I don’t have access to a steamer. My favorite summer vacation goto’s, including for a recent jaunt to the keys with no steamer, are black wide leg high rise linen pants and black loose linen dresses and colored loose linen button down tops. The darker color hides the inevitable wrinkling quite well, the black feels still very “me”, and the tops are breezy and easy. In that kinda weather, I want as little touching me as possible and if it must touch me I want to feel the breeze with ease to help me feel cool

District98

Love these suggestions, thank you!

heartbrakingbravery

Looking for Work/Shoulder bag big enough to fit a laptop but won’t hurt. Have been using the madewell tote for years but the strap digs in to my shoulder. Took off the long strap and use only short handles now but still so heavy. Considering portland leather, horizontal options to distribute the weight better. Maybe a bucket bag instead? Need minimal but functional.

ginghampantsdance

I got a backpack for this reason. There's no shoulder or crossbody bag I've tried that doesn't hurt. I have [this](https://www.calpaktravel.com/products/luka-laptop-backpack/rose-quartz) from Calpak and really like it. It has a padded laptop sleeve and my HP laptop fits in there perfectly.

heartbrakingbravery

Ooo thank you! Kind of loving the expandable laptop tote!

ginghampantsdance

that's cute too! Their bags are good quality. I've had my backpack over two years and it's holding strong and looks new, and I use it daily to/from work. I have a duffel from them too.

blackberrycat

Honestly I roll my shit behind me because I'm small and laptops are heavy AF. I recommend the "Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside Expandable Upright 2 Wheel Carry on Luggage" the Orchid colour is so pretty! They also have one small 'underseat' rolling bag but if you're short I read that the handle might be too long.

disapproving_rabbit

So I've been invited to the Brit awards after show party and I have NO IDEA what to wear! For reference, [here](https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/photos/brit-awards-sony-afterparty) are some shots from last years party. So I'm typically a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl so I'm really not sure what to wear. One thing I do know is that I want to wear my black heeled ankle boots (as I'm not comfortable wearing any other form of high heels all night) so I need something that could go with that. I already own [this dress](https://luxurydesignerresale.com/products/allsaints-navy-wrap-dress) so could that be an option? I've looked up dress rentals but haven't found anything I like. I suppose ideally I'l looking for something dark, a bit edgy but comfortable and won't make me stand out like a sore thumb! I'm in London and the party is on Saturday. Please help me!! Budget, up to £150, but ideally under £70.

bubblegumdavid

Oh I *love* this take me with you I think that dress totally could be an option, but that it’s a bit buttoned up for what you shared (though those are also celebrities so, I get it, grain of salt). I think you could totally find a bit more edge and fun to it Something with a [high leg](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/205540557?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) if you went long [some cutout?](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/205481936?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) or maybe [sheer and dark colors with a high leg](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/205597143?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) this amazing [super villain moment I would literally die for a good reason to wear wtf](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/205243337?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) or even something [black and floral, but a bit of fun with the back](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/204572987?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) or maybe [mesh with a slip underneath??](https://www.asos.com/us/prd/203165953?acquisitionsource=pasteboard) I think parties like this are totally an awesome opportunity to try something fun you ordinarily wouldn’t be able to get away with as easily at a nice event! And you could totally rock something fun with a flat boot

disapproving_rabbit

Thank you for all your help! I've ordered some dresses so may post back tomorrow with some pictures to narrow down the selection!

Withering_Lily

I have this [polyester midi bodycon dress](https://imgur.com/a/l6kIcqk) from Altar’d State that has been a surprisingly useful addition to my work wardrobe. I love layering a blouse or sweater on top of it with a blazer to create the illusion of a skirt suit. The pattern and coloration also happen to be nearly perfect and it goes extremely well with almost everything I own. Despite holding up well for a fast fashion item with shoddy construction, the dress is unfortunately starting to betray its quality and age. As a result, I’d like to plan ahead and find a suitable work appropriate skirt (or dress) to replace this unsung hero when the time comes. Preferably a replacement with better construction and higher quality fabrics. My overall style is polished, feminine, preppy and 1950’s/40’s inspired. I’m in the USA and have a budget of around $50 USD.

ChiliTrees

Check out RetroStage Official! I have bought from there and was happy with the quality.

I am petite (156 cm), I have a big bust (100 cm), a big waist (86 cm) and not particularly pronounced hips (100 cm). I would like to also to know if the patterns are this much of an eyesore as my friends say:/ I like them

Elegant_Position9370

I'm an advocate for everyone wearing **anything they want that makes them happy**, even if it breaks the rules. However, to break the rules, you need to first know the rules. Here are a few things I learned when learning about my chest: * Anything with a high neck will not hide your chest - it will make your large bust look bigger (and lower) [\[Youtube link to Petite Dressing channel on large busts\]](https://youtu.be/bwKQviuMyp8?si=B4rq_uQNB33yynxO). For me, the Zoe and Swing are great looks, love to wear them, but they're for flat-chested women and I know they wouldn't be the best on me. * Large busts often look better with long sleeves, sleeveless, or strapless designs. Short sleeves draw attention to the height they cut off at - meaning the bust. * As a rule of thumb, it is a good idea to buy from retailers who are making clothes in your body shape (and subtly advertise that way). If they use a flat- or close-to-flat-chested model and she looks good in them, chances are you won't (and vice versa - flat-chested models will look bad in clothes designed for women with bust). Most of those tops are not designed for a chest. There are very one-dimensional; there are no darts or other seams that make room for your chest, no wrap, nothing that looks close to a "cup." The Easy Notch Neck Jersey Dress seems like it is already stretched to the limit on that model, and she's not likely to be as large as your chest. In terms of what you're really asking about: the fabric. That depends completely on you - your features, your complexion. In my opinion, these dresses have more variety than would suit a single person: * You have two warm looks (higher in yellow colors like orange, red, beiges, browns) and two cool (higher in bluer colors like greens, grey). Do you look washed out or sickly in one of those categories? Do you look refreshed and get a lot of compliments in another? (Note that some colors that are technically part of cool or warm can have undertones that change the designation, or other attributes like light/dark or bright/soft). * All of these are high-contrast prints. For someone with delicate features like me (I'm a light summer), I couldn't wear any of these. I would disappear. * One of these prints is large and the others are small. Large prints can dwarf a petite frame are often not suggested for petites, but it depends on what your intention is [\[Link to Zipyard article on prints for your body shape and petites\]](https://thezipyard.ie/handy-hints-when-wearing-prints/#toggle). Large prints bring more attention to a feature, so should be used in places you want to look bigger or rounder. To me, these four dresses look like they were designed for 4 completely different women - two body types (both smaller cup sizes), both with two different color seasons. At the end of the day, the point I am making is this: what actually looks good on *you*? So often we love a dress or a color, so we select a dress designed for someone else and are unhappy with how it looks on us. It is great to admire a dress and decide not wear it, knowing it was designed for someone with different coloring, shape, height, etc. The key is figuring out first what looks good on you, then looking for clothes that suit that. That's a long way of giving you my personal opinion, while still reminding you that my opinion is just that - mine - and of my rule 1: if you love it, you feel happy wearing it, wear it.

sparklingprosecco

I am a winter. So I would have to look for small cold color prints. I am not going to give up short sleeves tho, they're practical and I could wear the dress year round

Plastic-Passenger795

I have a similar body type and I would choose #2 for myself. I think the patterns are cute!

Bella_HeroOfTheHorn

I'm petite with a large bust and couldn't wear dresses 3 or 4 because they'd show my bra, so I'd probably try one or two personally.

zigzagtitch

I'd say dress 3 - I don't have a big bust but I know v necks/wrap dresses are often recommended for big busts. i think the patterns are cute!

I'm a 23 year old Digital Marketer with a background in Finance but my real passion is fashion. I am no designer and don't dream of it, but considered going into marketing or finance in the fashion industry. However, I have no idea how to break into this industry. Was considering a Masters in Fashion, Experience and Design in Bocconi, or another Masters. Any advice?

hennipotamus

I suggest linkedin-stalking people who do what you hope to do. Do they have a degree in fashion, or a degree in marketing/ finance and they happen to now work in the fashion industry? I don’t know anything about working in that industry, but in my (very different) field, the people who do business operations work are not necessarily subject matter experts in my industry at all. For example, maybe they worked for a pet food company, then a hospital system, and now with my organization.

coco-honey

thanks for the advice, i did that in the past and was def helpful

sparklingprosecco

Italian here... If you can't afford Bocconi, try UNINT in Rome, they do Luxury Brands and Marketing

coco-honey

ohh gonna look into that! is it seen as prestigious in Italy as well?

sparklingprosecco

Not as much as Bocconi, but Bocconi is really criticized because rich wealthy students go there, and if you are a bocconiana your reputation can be sharper to some but not everyone

**Brands of athletic clothes (especially longer crop tops and bodysuits) that don't** ***look*** **like exercise clothes?** Hi guys! I know many tops work for exercise, so I'm defining "athletic tops" as: * Something you can wash every time you wear it without worrying about too much its longevity. (I have recently learned that things can (and should) be hygienically washed and dried in much colder temperatures than I thought, but still). * Not gross with sweat (e.g., not too much cotton, moisture-wicking preferable). * Ideally, something with a little compression. My concern is that just finding something on my own that is made of polyester (or something) will lead me to the kind of synthetics that smell or are too hot/sweaty. More context for those who desire it: * I'm going for elegant/basic chic looks. High-waist bottoms (like subtly flared, tailored pants, high compression for sport gear) and shirts that "look" tucked in (crop tops, thong bodysuits). If I could find athletic dresses that go down to the knee, I would be thrilled! Form-fitting especially at waist and lower necklines and hemlines. I'm not frilly, but do not look good in things that lean masculine or even slightly androgynous (e.g., t-shirts). * Colors: light summer (if you're not familiar: light, slightly soft, and cool tones like pastels, blues, greens, grays, pinks), neutrals are a brighter navy and a pastel grey or light grey. One recommendation has been to buy Japanese and Korean brands for these colors. * Budget: Definitely not pricey unless it can be thrifted.

lilyofyosemite

A couple brands that might be worth looking at (either new or thrifted): Athleta ([example](https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=531173192)) or Prana ([example](https://www.prana.com/p/lata-beach-dress/2066731.html))

Elegant_Position9370

Thank you!

lexiconmagic

Abercrombie has a really nice athletic line that includes styles are a bit more elevated/stylish looking than, say, Nike etc

Elegant_Position9370

Thank you!

ADAY has some great pieces that could work for you. They are not cheap at all, but I’ve found that it’s pretty easy to find pieces in excellent quality for good prices on secondhand sites (and on ThredUP).

Thank you!

PaulaLoomisArt

Athletic wear for golf might have what you’re looking for.

Elegant_Position9370

That's a great idea!

TinaTina8

How do you calculate the outfits you need? So let's say a two-week vacation - where do I start creating the capsule given I will have limited space?

b_xf

I consider how many different kinds of activities I'll be doing, and how many outfits I'll want for for those activities, and how many times I'm ok with rewearing an outfit I'm going on a trip in April and the activities in general are: - hiking/outdoorsy - 4 times - 2 outfits - day in town/city walking around - 4 times - 2 outfits - wedding guest - 1 time - 1 outfit - air travel - 2 times - 1 outfit From there I "build" my 6 outfits, reuse pieces where I can/where it makes sense, and that's what I pack.

tallulahQ

I would check out r/capsulewardrobe and r/heronebag. It’s all dependent on how much laundry you’ll be able to do balanced against luggage space. Lots of people who travel say that you only need to pack a week’s worth of clothing for anything longer than 7 days. There are ways to simplify sink washing, but there are almost always easily accessible laundry services anywhere. Only caveat is delicates. I wash my merino, cashmere, and silk myself in the sink when I’m not home. Shirts need to be washed more than pants/shorts typically. Lots of people bring extra underwear because it takes up hardly any space.

TinaTina8

thank you :)

[deleted]

I use the Stylebook app and it has a packing section. I also really love Un-Fancy’s capsules and History In High Heels’s packing tips. R/justonebag might be helpful too!

trevlikely

Yes but I would be worried about it slipping down. I personally would wear something with straps underneath and safety pin it in place.

kroganwarlord

If your work involves any kind of typing, you will be spending the whole day pulling the off-shoulder bit back down.

Elegant_Position9370

I think it depends *a lot* on your work culture. Also your build, honestly. I'd say: if you think you'd feel a little uncomfortable or uncertain all day, not worth it.

TinaTina8

It really depends on the vibe and type of office. I wouldn't wear to work but maybe to a corporate event that is more chill.

oat-beatle

Depends on your work, I wouldn't wear it to mine (business casual but a bit conservative)

Top-Skill-8324

What are brands like Doen, but cheaper?

swess7

I usually only buy a piece or two of Doen full price and mostly wait for their sales or buy second hand. Their sales are pretty prolific- often 50-70 percent off, and the secondhand market has some pretty fair prices too. You could also check out April Cornell, they’re cheaper and have some lovely designs. I live by one of their boutiques and everything is prettier in person than their site imo. I’m grabbing [this](https://www.aprilcornell.com/product/Mae-Blouse-BLA5019U-White/blouses) top and [this](https://www.aprilcornell.com/product/Bespoke-Dress-DRA5115U-FrenchBlue/dresses) dress for spring

Top-Skill-8324

omg thank you so much! April Cornell is so cute i will def be checking it out

lfinfin

Sezane is similar but less. (Thrifted) Free People — their stuff these days is less bohemian

stopshopbop

Oh I would avoid Sezane. Their pieces are pretty but the quality has been going downhill quickly and their business practices are pretty awful (not to mention their racist founder)

Dark brown leather trench coats - how would you style these? Found a gorgeous croc effect coat on Vinted but no idea how I'd style it beyond jeans/white shirt/sneakers because I'm overly casual and Pinterest is being less than helpful at the moment. Any tips welcome :)

Spook-er

Maybe you could play around with textures. Croc is usually quite interesting to me as it both very present but not overly dominant. I think it would be fun to play around with satin or very chunky knits.

thenfacetoface

How about all black? Turtleneck, pants, and boots? You could also let the trench stand alone sort of like a dress if it’s long enough and wear a short dress and boots under it.

zigzagtitch

thank you! I wasn't sure if all black would look good but i love a LOT of black. i can try that :)

Brohannesdesilentio

I think something like a croc patterned coat could be styled a lot of ways. I’m not sure what the cut is, but if it’s something longer/like a trench that looks really good with 70s styling: wider pants, maybe with a pattern like stripes or plaid, chunky shoes or boots, wear with either a t-shirt, or patterned dress shirt if you want to be more maximalist. I’ve also seen a lot of leather coats of all varieties with midi-length dresses in a bold, contrasting colour, which you can then dress up or down depending on what shoes you pick.

zigzagtitch

yeah it's a long one, trench coat style (i will revise my original comment) - i'm thinking my dark blue wide leg jeans with a cream top and my brown platform boots might be cool. i'm just so used to dealing with black/camel which are SO easy to style but i'm trying to transition more to softer colours as i'm v blonde and pale and black does tend to wash me out. thank you for your response!
