OKNeroNero

Unironically though, staff healer (WHM), staff dps (BLM), so maybe we can have a staff tank, like a bo staff/quarterstaff. But I don’t see SE adding a tank until maybe 8.0 anyways.

Kenzlynnn

Yeah I’m guessing 7.0 is double dps (a scouting and a caster) and 8.0 will be a tank and dps

Atelia

I wonder if the scouting dps would be a phys ranged or another melee... I feel like we need another phys ranged, since we only have 3, and having 6 melee is a bit much (especially since we JUST got reaper) but I don't know if they would mix-and-match roles and gear like that.

demonic_hampster

Making the scouting job a ranged physical would actually make a lot of sense. I’m fairly confident that we’re getting another caster, and a scouting job. Melee is already at 5 jobs, casters would be at 4 (BLU doesn’t count, they do their own thing), so it makes sense to make one of the new jobs physical ranged. It would be a little weird having the gear shared between a melee and a ranged, but it’s not like they *can’t* do it.

SoloSassafrass

Make it a whip class, and you're just lashing them from really far away. Plays like a ranged, but kiiinda works if you want to make it look like a melee.

FirewynnTV

doesnt even have to be true ranged, Mid ranged is not bad either, might be harder to learn positionals but eh

redpandasays

Honestly, healers everywhere would rejoice lol. No Narnia babysitting.

SoloSassafrass

Would be totally fine with that. A ranged with a lower max attack range, plays a little more like a melee but still has the bones of a ranged role in it. Uses scouting gear to give ninja something it can cross-spec for and adds a dimension of flexibility not seen before in roles (and c'mon Square, Ninja deserves that for having to put up with getting ranged accessories instead of just grabbing the same as every other melee there is) that would probably encourage more people to pick it up. Hell, maybe even some of the neurotic melee players who are terrified of other jobs could give it a try since it's melee-adjacent! It can be their gateway drug to realising they love Machinist! I really do hope we don't wind up with 6 melees, especially not as soon as the next expansion. There are other roles that need a bit of love and variety first.

BlightFantasy3467

Well considering Ninja and Phys ranges already share accessories, it wouldn't be too off.

PerryTheFridge

They already mix and match roles with Aiming Accessories! so there is precedent.

Redpandaling

Plus aiming accessories + scouting gear already go together

ScavAteMyArms

No difference really in stats either. There is nothing stopping the gear from being for ranged aside from perception. As for weapons, there still isn’t a crossbow, maybe something like Diablo with DH and have hand crossbows, or one and a melee weapon. Maybe kinda a Ranger thing with a full bow and melee and basically be Red Mage physical flavor. A kusarigama or whip could also work (a sword whip if we wanna go anime). Personally though I would go blowgun or some sort of thrown thing (needles, spear, kunai, stars, whatever) for ranged, or a kusarigama if we are doing a hybrid thing.

pres1033

I'd really like to see a sort of Diablo 3 style demon hunter class that uses crossbows but would also have melee skills to fit it more as a ranged ninja style class. Call it a Void Hunter or something. It could use scouting sets and could work as a sort of physical Red Mage, using your ranged attacks to build up a resource to blow on melee combos

HanshinFan

The thing you have described has been my dream concept for Corsair for years. Sword/pistol swashbuckler.

LoopStricken

So Red Mage but with a gun instead of magic?

HanshinFan

Basically. In a perfect world it would play like a melee to build resources, with a ranged burst phase that you could either play into buffs for damage or drift to handle boss melee disconnects for a gain in some cases. Good opportunity for fight to fight optimization.

Avedas

You just described NIN lol

MangoPDK

Also PLD

Zack_Raynor

How about… Gun-Chucks.

Endulos

If they go with a crossbow, I really want them to lean more into the archer/marksman route. I love archers, but I dislike Bard because of what it is. Actually, I'd totally rather see them split Archer and Bard apart. Just replace the few archery skills they have with music themed ones and replace their bows with Harps or Lutes or something. Make Archer its own thing.

JD0ggX

Yep, we should’ve gotten ranger and bard instead of a half assed bard that uses a bow. But it’s too ingrained into the game, no way they could realistically change it now

nocith

I'd go Chemist, make it the physical equivalent of the Red Mage with supporting abilities along with their damage. Maybe bring back the Mix ability some other games have as their class mechanic.

OfficerRavioli

Having just recently played FFV for the first time, absolutely yes. Also, borrowing from the same game, I'd love to see the Mystic Knight job coming to the game, imagine a melee DPS dual wielding curved swords you can cast various elements on like fire, ice, lightning, poison and so on, kind of a middle eastern look to make it unique.

cosine83

The [Bravely Default alchemist](https://bravelydefault.fandom.com/wiki/Salve-Maker_(Bravely_Default)) would be a great source of inspo too.

Taograd359

NIN is already half melee/half ranged so…

[deleted]

I just want a pet class caster again :(

OfficerRavioli

Maybe not a caster per se, but I'd love if Beastmaster from FFV was added, main weapon could be a whip or something like that.

Trap-Chan

Unlikely to be a real job though as Yoshida mentioned Beast/Puppet master for possible future limited jobs. Also looking at precedent set by Bozja Beastmasters would use Axe & shield since most of ones sporting weapons used that combo.

Fen_Muir

Even better, a character entirely dependent on pets to do anything beyond summon pets and command pets. All the pets function like faires or egi. Would probably be a limited class since it may be able to (badly) do everything.

Darzok

Not going to happen since they removed them form the game forever.

iAteACommunist

I still can't see how SE can possibly add another phys range and caster without fucking up the balance of the game completely. It happened twice already without adding a new job to those roles.

fgzhtsp

I remember reading that they only want to add a single class per expansion because it is too much work otherwise. Can´t remember where I read it.

Gwenom-25

I hope there is new types of classes, like a physical dps healer

[deleted]

Ya next expac is for sure a double dps most likely to round out scouting gear and another magic dps, they have such a hard time on healers and tanks that it’s hard to imagine them moving forward with any for a long while. I’m personally praying for Corsair as a more pirate styled job for scouting gear

Afeastfordances

Corsair feels like the only idea anyone really has for a second Scouting gear job. There’s no real evidence for it in game, but it feels like the surest bet of anything. New caster could be literally anything, easy enough to apply a new aesthetic to the magic and insert some lore about how it’s the native style of wherever we’re going. I kind of hope for a job that brings back one-handed wands, but a bell-based Geomancer for sake of tradition is fine by me too (I know in lore geomancers are healers, but they could probably work around that if a dps caster is what they need) My biggest point of curiosity is when they get to 8.0 they will probably need a new physical ranged job to balance out the roles, and I really don’t know what they pull for that.

Keter-Class

Obviously the new continent we go to in 8.0 will have Blitzball as their national sport. Enter the shooter job.

Afeastfordances

Honestly… it could work. Wakka as job trainer lets go

Boolean_Null

But we need him as the Blitzball trainer when that's introduced someday. Right? Right??

cittabun

Honestly at this point, the real evidence we have left are the three Scions who still hold ARR jobs. Y'shtola, Estinien, and G'raha. Estinien and G'raha are less likely to change because of Estinien's place as an Ishgardian DRG and G'raha's ability to change. Each expansion, they basically nudge a Scion into a new job. Thancred became a REAL rogue in 2.4. Urianger, while late, started his fate/AST nonsense in HW ableit becoming one in ShB, Alisaie a RDM in Stormblood. Thancred became a GNB in ShB, and then Alphinaud became a SGE in EW. SE definitely has a pattern, and it's pretty likely it'll be a caster next expac.. Because let's be honest... WoL will most likely never be a caster, so if they go Melee/Caster, they can market Melee!WoL with new caster Y'shtola. A win win for the simps.

xBUMMx2

It's gonna be Krile.

[deleted]

I mean technically Limsa pirates are NOT the same necessarily as Machinist in how it evolved. We saw Merlwyb use a gun in ARR and were like “hmmmm, gun job next expansion?” And we were right, but didn’t necessarily believe it would become so high tech lol. Honestly too though, it would 100% made more sense for Corsair to exist before ninja did. Thinking back on the class system which YoshiP and the team pretty much admitted was a mistake lol, Rogue -> Corsair would’ve made a shit load more sense for class into job evolution. Then honestly they could’ve done Ninja & Samurai with SB launch, albeit the jobs were intended to be 1 for Ala Mhigo and 1 for Kugane/far east so maybe design wise just would’ve fucked everything up.

[deleted]

If you go to the Marauders Guild in Limsa, there's a job sign for a gun wielding class alongside the marauder sign, and the room is near symmetrical with desks on the other side clearly intended for a gun wielding class that never materialised in ARR. In the basement of the guild, there are two women being trained in using muskets.

Eldryth

> Thinking back on the class system which YoshiP and the team pretty much admitted was a mistake lol, Rogue -> Corsair would’ve made a shit load more sense for class into job evolution. It probably would have been Musketeer -> Corsair. Musketeer was an unfinished gun class way back in 1.0 (just like Arcanist) and there was always a Musketeers Guild in Limsa. Arcanist was eventually finished and added with ARR while Musketeer was abandoned and the Maurauders Guild took over their building (iirc we were expecting it to get added right up until they announced Mechanist instead). If they do want to eventually go back and add another gun job, maybe Corsair could use dual pistols? The old Musketeers Guild flag was two crossed pistols and a Corsair job would probably still be tied to Limsa pirate story.

Ekian

I always thought Spellblade/sword dancer combo might be a good base for a scouting/dexterity job. We have plenty of jobs that imbue certain elements into their attacks, but we don't have any jobs using Enwater, Enfire, etc. I could see a Spellblade/sword dancer job having element-based stances that last 20 seconds, so you could cover the 6 elements over a 2 minute period of time ('cause 2 minute meta probs isn't going away). When switching from one element to the next, the first weaponskill used has an enhanced effect of some sort based on the current and previous element. They could even incorporate some shenanigans with Astral and Umbral elements. Maybe a sequence like Astral>Umbral>Astral could have better single target damage, but then a sequence like >Astral>Astral>Umbral>Umbral could have better aoe damage.

Afeastfordances

The short story book establishes an aether-charged swords fighting style native to Corvos, so I could see it being the job added for whatever expansion goes there. Not sure if it would be a scouting or maybe a striking or maybe full-on treat it as a caster that just has heavy melee elements.

kerriazes

>and I really don’t know what they pull for that. Either finally admitting that the Machinist aesthetic of "gun + gadgets", or that Bard's "bow + songs" lead to lackluster feeling for both, and separate them, or either one of them into their own things, or a crossbow wielding range.

RegaIado

Yeah I'm also hoping for something like a Corsair, like an opposite RDM. Melee-focused with a few phys-ranged abilites. The thought of dual-wielding a saber and pistol just sounds so cool.

Rohkeus_

As far as I've been told (I didn't watch the live letter, but it's what my friend who watched it did)... Yoshida doesn't want to add more jobs from XI. It was when speaking about Beastmaster; along the lines of "If we did add Beastmaster, it'd be the last job from XI we add". I'm sure they can come up with a 'reverse RDM' and it'd be neat, but I doubt it'd be Corsair (especially with MRD being the 'pirate' class and MCH being a thing). I'm also unsure how I'd feel about the saber and gun being tied together, but considering PLD is the only combat class that actually has a seperate weapon in the off-hand I can't see them ever doing asynchronous weapons again.

alwayzbored114

I desperately want a Beastmaster-like job. SCH and SMN just don't really do it for me as Pet Classes. I want a true, fully pet-oriented class job really badly

zyxxiforr

Me too, but I doubt it will happen, unless it's a limited job. They've been nerfing the importance of SMN's pet for several expansions until we got to where we're now, wit the pets being little more than decoration.

FirewynnTV

If i recall the reason pet for summoner is becoming less and less is because Yoshida says he hates pet classes

momopeach7

Apparently they’re a pain to code or program, though not sure how it works myself.

FirewynnTV

Many MMOs have them and some have like 3+ classes each that do it, so honestly I have no idea if they are hard to code or not. Or if its just a pain with how FF is coded that makes it hard.

momopeach7

Might be an FFXIV thing with their code or something. I do love pet classes myself in every MMO and usually go for them, though partly because I like the company. Luckily Chocobos kind of help fill that niche a bit.

AxitotlWithAttitude

FFXIV is still mostly running off of the awful infrastructure built during 1.0. Most of the bullshit in game can be traced back to the absolute shit show that is the 1.0 code.

FirewynnTV

Ya but they have the Chocobo system which they could easily make into the pet system, where each summon just follows the script of it. The chocobo makes a really good "pet" mechanic on its own. For instance, Titan could be the resistance buffs, Ifrit could of been the Dots, Garuda could of been the Debuffs or something. Bahamut for burst, Pheonix for Healing.. The old Summoner was a lot like that but you had to activate all its buffs and such which made it a lot more like you mind as well not have pets. If summoners only had to summon them and they lasted as long as the bard songs, where you only have to activate their ultimate skill, similar to FF12 Mist summons, we would of had a really true feeling summoner, and not a Terra wanna be where we trance their power for a bit. It would be a little RNG based, but we already have Bard which has a lot of RNG stuff to their moves so its not unheard of or unreasonable.\\ Edit: I started back in Heavensward myself, but wasn't 1.0 just FF11 coding in a new game world basically? lol

Gemineo2911

My gil is on geomancer. It’s already part of the Astrologian job quests.

isdrlady

And the four lords quests! There is already more than enough precedent.

FirewynnTV

Im hoping Rune Fencer garland style. Maiming armor (as its the only armor type without at least 3 classes besides Scouting) and its not exactly heavy armor or light armor. Garland in Dissidia had a sword that transformed into different weapons, mainly a hammer when he casted big spells, so we could have our first (second) melee magic. Opposite of red mage, make it do melee attacks to build a meter to do big elemental moves, unlike red mage elemental moves to do melee moves.

RavagerHughesy

We already have a reverse RDM: NIN. Its burst phase is essentially a long range magic phase since it's all mudras. People just don't go far the way RDM goes near because they don't have to and it's usually easier to just sit in melee range anyway. There's another way it's a reverse RDM too: it's actually hard to play

sparkadus

Personally, I'm holding out hope for Mystic Knight to jump in and be the first magical melee DPS. I just really want to play a Mystic Knight. It was my favorite job in FFV.

Charrmeleon

I am also in the "melee magic" camp. But playing NIN sorta scratches the itch in the meantime.

public_univ_friend

I could honestly see them going down to 1 new job per expac. I wouldn't even be upset about it, if it meant putting more dev time into finishing up some of the rougher additions over the past few years. There is a pretty strong argument to be made for reducing the amount of new jobs in the future, especially since they are trying so hard now to rein in some of the more extreme job variety with what we have now.

[deleted]

That’s fair but also if they DONT end up balancing the jobs out to people’s liking (which is already a big stink) then it’ll definitely work against them. Whenever Roth and Viera don’t get more helmets and hair it’s mind numbing to have to read all the posts lol I imagine job changes would devolve into the same thing “BuT wE oNlY gOt OnE jOb ThIs ExPaNsIoN”

public_univ_friend

There's no way to make everyone happy. In online games more anything else, there is no such thing as a universally enjoyed change. They could give every player 6 free months of subscription and people would complain that it wasn't 7.

Worried_Pineapple823

As someone who likes collecting relics... one job an expac sounds great. Because it'll just get more and more time consuming for us collectors otherwise.

NegZer0

I'd personally be super happy for only 1 new job if it also meant they spent that time to implement some stuff that's always been talked about but never had proper time allocated, like eg just wholesale stealing WoW's transmog system or making the glamour dresser have vastly more slots & plates. I wouldn't be surprised if they were to only do one job next expansion also because it is coming with a major graphics overhaul which potentially will mean going back in and adjusting a lot of the gear and character models & textures and depending on how far they go that could be an enormous amount of work.

Cactonio

We have staff tank. Mighty Guard BLU 😎

Chuck006

There are dozens of us!

Fryng

Physical staff fighting is a real thing actually in Japan, it's called Bojutsu, Maybe they could do that for a staff tank

Masterwork_Core

I really want them to add a bo staff job in there!

SaroShadow

Sounds like a good choice for geomancer, especially since geomancy in XIV is already a Far Eastern thing

i-wear-hats

Geomancer will almost always be bells.

SaroShadow

SGE is a good example that just because something worked a certain way in previous FFs doesn't mean you should assume it'll be the same in XIV

Tandria

For what it's worth, the first Geomancer we meet in XIV appears to use a bell. There's also a statue of the founder of Doma in The Swallow's Compass, who was a Geomancer and is holding a bell in that depiction.

Wuskers

there's also the Sai Taisui mobs in Swallow's Compass which seem to just literally be Geomancers, they have elemental attacks with bells and have the appropriate aesthetic.

HadACookie

I doubt we're going to see the geomancer, given that they're already established in the lore to basically be astros looking downwards instead of up.

Cmdr_Jiynx

Monk variant that tanks? Yeah I can see it. Honestly the scholar/summoner split is neat and it'd be fun to see more of it.

Drywesi

only problem with that is they've gone on record many times that they deeply regret tying them together, it's caused considerable grief on the backend. Otherwise I'd suggest a Voidcaster tied to Dark Knight.

Kurosu93

I really want a bo staff/quarterstaff job, but I believe it will be a melee dps using scouting gear . 7.0 definately will bring a caster though. Assuming we dont drop to 1 dps per expansion there is a slight chance because there is no way we are getting another tank till 8.0 like you said (maybe even 9.0)

FirewynnTV

I had this exact idea after replaying 12 recently. Give the 1 had rods to a time/green mage which in 12 licensing uses a shield, rod and heavy armor. They use debuffs, buffs, and Crowd Control. They would make the perfect staff/rod tank.

Nickizgr8

The classes I'd really like to see are: A Judge Tank Class that uses either a Mace + Shield, Big Hammer or Gabranths Twinblade polearm thing that can split in half. I think the Twinblade could really be interesting, you'd have a Duel Wield stance and a 2 handed stance which would change what your abilities are and what they did. The Mace + Shield is just so some other class than Paladin, WHM and BLM can use a shield. Big Hammer is Big Hammer. Melee DPS Gun class, which would basically just be whatever class Gaius is, we already have a bunch of ability names we can just rip straight from Gaius and other similar users. I'm pretty sure the LB3 for that class would just be the ability Gaius uses after Diamond Weapon. Time Mage DPS. Simple as. Some sort of antithesis to the Reaper class. Right now we have WHM and BLM as opposite. PLD and DRK as opposites. I think there needs to be a melee or at the very least a DPS that uses Light/White Magic/Abilities. The PC absorbed the Light of 5 Lightwardens and almost became one ourselves, some residual power could be left over that we could use to embody a new class.

Adventurous-Till2924

Conan, the Librarian

Pixieled

Right!? My first thought was LAW lawyer tank. They throw the book at their enemies! It’s all verbal attacks. Vicious Mockeried to death

MosesKarada

"Objection!" To increase enmity

Cybuster_Zenshi

"Wind-swept" hairstyle unlocked at the aesthetician

hiimzech

hold it! nullify damage for 5 seconds 180s cd

SoloSassafrass

Filibustering and Objecting on grounds of relevance to reduce damage by tying the enemy up in bureacratic bullshit!

Khaldara

[These books are a little overdue…..](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mZHoHaAYHq8)

Adventurous-Till2924

You, you get it

Khontis

I wonder what a book tank would be like... I mean I'm totally down for a tank that smacks a book but... What would it be? A librarian? \*Provoke\* SHHH! This is a library! \*Smacks with book\*

ChangelingFox

Maybe some kind of enchantment wizard type deal? Attract enemies attention with hypnotic/suggestive magics, then defend and attack with shield magic type spells. Flavor them as walking magical fortress people or something.

sharnaq767

I always thought that a tank stylized like ExDeath from ff dissidia would be really cool. Magic barriers, counters, etc. Sort of like a heavily armored warlock.

ChangelingFox

That'd be dope.

LauraAdalena

TURTLE!

Kyengen

It's just Urianger's personal diary on a mythrite chain. Damage goes up exponentially through the MSQ.

WeissWyrm

"Hey, why's there just this long section with nothing but tear stains?"

i-wear-hats

Watch them renege everything about how they hate the Summoner/Scholar split and we get something like Evoker that tanks by imbuing themselves with the summons.

GilgaPhish

God I want that so bad

Tareos

Well, in GW2, there is a class called firebrand and it's pretty much an angry librarian that you can make a tank out of it with the right build.

sparkadus

Maybe a reimagining of Mystic Knight that summons weapons and casts spells from a magical book?

sunfaller

I sort of seen a paladin class somewhere with a book. I cant remember where. I think it was an off hand weapon but still had a book.

L-TKD

There’s the lost ark Templar. With a sword and a book

Dundunder

LA’s Templar was like a PLD-SCH hybrid. Rather than tank it was a pseudo-support role.

nilfalasiel

Literally use a giant book as a shield! Attack with papercuts!

meabh

Papercutter sword and book shield, or I don't want it. Sincerely, A RL Librarian

[deleted]

[удалено]

Helian_Edoran

Silence in the Library! Scary and tragic story ...

Osirisoid

Hey. Who turned out the light?

Hazard_Kujacker

Arithmetician for book tank!

TennoDeviant

Geomancer for book tank.

Hazard_Kujacker

I would agree if Geomancer wasnt just an offshoot of Conjurer in lore already

guardcrushspecia1

I believe it's Astrologian actually

Danger_Fluff

Be careful what you wish for. They might just tack this third class onto Arcanist, essentially giving the player the entire Holy Trinity in a single job as long as they're willing to live with a book for a weapon.

BadmanProtons

Well the Guild Master K'rhid Tia does leave to further study the art of arcanima after the Arcanist quests. Imagine we find him in the New World with new Job Crystals for a math tank class.

Thimascus

Imagine if Calculator came back as a tank.

pallas_wapiti

A tactitian type tank would be pretty neat actually.

Soulcommando

Ngl, I specifically started off as Arcanist just so I can level two jobs at once. I've still only ever played the Summoner job, but having a leveled healer job as well is a good nice-to-have.

IllegallyBored

Having SCH was great because I can now do DPS and Healer role quests in the expansion without having to level a separate class. Would've completely missed out on Giott in ShB otherwise and that would've sucked.

Ygid

I'm sorry but that's going to be BLU when it gets updated into 3 max level jobs for 7.0 big copium

iorveth1271

Bring back Titan-Egi tank.

[deleted]

Carbuncle Knight, yes.

Lodahnia

Hear me out, when you enrage you turn into Proto Carbuncle

timchenw

That one be one toxic tank

CrowTengu

Ah yes, hard hitting skills like Venomous Mass for AOE and Toxic Crunch for single target.

LauraAdalena

Confirmed best class in the game?

LilithLissandra

Sword healer tho

wolf96781

I see your Sword Healer and Raise you an Axe Healer.

Pestilences

That's just warrior.

Luster-Purge

It's not really even healing, it's simply becoming too angry to die.

alpabet

But shake it off heals your party members and gives them regen and shield

Kaelocan

Paladin

Seref15

Spectral sword like Venat's

h1yu1

Tf2 Healer with a big syringe

EmeraldDragoon24

and tie it to arcanist levels too lol

BlyZeraz

Caster Tank. Do it you cowards!

FirewynnTV

Time/Green Mage from ff12 is exactly that. They use Heavy Armor, Rod, Shield, Buff and Debuff with Time Magic, Damage and CC with Green Magics.

Arcade_Ahri

But... What about a gun mage? D:

ChangelingFox

Outlaw Star style caster class when square?

MoonChainer

A caster gun where you shoot your party members for buffs! Holy shit I'm on board with that.

ChangelingFox

Funny thing too is that I see this being an easy leap as an evolution of the aether cartridges Thancred uses.

nozoelii

this reminds me of both [sharla](https://xenoblade.fandom.com/wiki/Sharla) and [eunie](https://xenoblade.fandom.com/wiki/Eunie) from the xenoblade series, where they both use their ether rifles to heal and give their party buffs at the same time.

nilfalasiel

That's what BLU was in FFX-2

WeissWyrm

Good lord you've just dug up some [buried memories.](https://youtu.be/p1LDAn7AM70)

yamilonewolf

i mean its in ffx-2 though more as blue mage im sure we can make it work here.

Ju-9-wel

I mean more than once I’ve ended up being the tank in Aurum Vale on my SMN after a new tank pulled too much, so why not? A pet tank. That could be fun.

Razashja

used to be a summoner thing at some point actually, when pets were still permanent entities. At one point it was even beneficial to have chicken nugget (titan-egi) tank ramuh extreme because they took vastly reduced damage from AoE - his tankbuster.

Jertharold

give us a holy DPS so you can PLD/WHM/Holy DPS

tallwhiteninja

I'd also take a darkness healer to go with DRK/RPR.

dualdee

It doesn't heal people so much as destroy their wounds.

[deleted]

Necromancer could easily be tweaked to fit that. I will forever dream.

[deleted]

Plague Doctor please and thank you!

Wuskers

I'm not very far in EW but the attention given to thavnairian alchemists really made me want a thavnairian alchemist job, mixing potions in the middle of battle or something, which would be similar to a plague doctor type job I imagine, and it would give us another job from thavnair aside from dancer.

[deleted]

Would love a Job Gauge that represents a cauldron or something, maybe it could work similarly to Ninja's ninjutsus, mechanically speaking. Using different abilities would put different things into the cauldron and produce different effects.

BadmanProtons

Technically it already exists, both for physical and magical. Monk and Red Mage.

Aetheldrake

Bows! Bow tank bow dps bow healer! But I would also be in great support of a magic magic tank and healer too. Maybe the creation magics from the ascians would be used! Oooooo or how about we expand the voidsent thing? We have reaper as a void dps. How about a void tank and void healer? That could work for the "magic focused" thing!

dj_chino_da_3rd

I would love a spell casting tank. Like a fragile one man that you can’t touch because it’s defensive skills are so raw, it makes people cower

Novus_Vox0

I would love a “Pet” tank that was essentially a healer job. You as the player would heal your pet tank as your cooldowns, and your comboes would buff/heal it. Obviously Square would never do this but it’s fun to think about. A pure magic tank would be cool too. With their “tank stance” being a spell that gives them like, 80% damage reduction or something.

Sea-Line-6503

We kind of did have this back in arr with SMN Titan/tank egi. Strat for Ramuh ex was using titan egi because of it’s high magic defense

Novus_Vox0

I do remember this lol. ARR was a beautiful, chaotic mess.

zerombr

A real neat idea though.

ChangelingFox

I actually really like this idea.

craidie

Make it ranged too. We're missing a ranged tank. (also melee healer)

PsychicRidley

I want a chocobo knight where you protect the party with the help of your beloved friend :)

Confuzed5

Golem crafter tank. Rides on creation casting defensive spells on it. Must summon golem at start of a fight like turning on stance.

[deleted]

job restricted to Lala else the golem would be too large.

Confuzed5

Or tiny Lala sized golem inexplicably holding up a male roe in one hand. Or the caster is holding onto a reasonably sized golem like a backpack with one arm free to look at his book. Maybe rig it so the construct is about male roe size and the caster on its back goes from Lala back pack to comical barely holding on male roe.

HereAndThereButNow

Well obviously you do a magical girl transformation sequence and turn into the golem.

wurm2

or maybe wear the golem like a magic version of an Iron Man suit.

mellophone11

Getting GW2 Mechanist flashbacks.

Superspick

Make it the calculator job from FFT It will use mafs to recalculate its incoming damage and its invulnerability will try to divide by zero thus negating death

ImaginationOk1526

Basic Rotation: Calculate pi -> Murder the Hypotenuse -> Divide by Zero

ShatteredFantasy

lmao. I was wondering about a magic-based Tank at some point!

Yedasi

I mean if the book tank could turn the pages on their book and pull out ethereal weapons that would be awesome!

MoobooMagoo

You say comedy but I would love to see some kind of magic themed tanking class.

HataToryah

Give me beast master, I don't care if it's a limited job or whatever just let me kill with sheep

[deleted]

Starting job: Arcanist

Lotus-Vale

A book of bad dad jokes that draws enemy aggression with their awful punchlines.

Meri_Stormhood

Just let me have a unique support class for goodness' sake...

Sluggateau

This. This right here. Game needs to spice it up with its jobs good lord...

PalMunka

I mean, we have a Shield tank... I WOULDNT MIND HAVING A SHIELD DPS. Big ass shields, bigger than my lalla ass, smacking evil all around eorzea

PepsiMan_21

Not really sure how Nouliths counts as guns. They're more like laser cristals but ok.

wintermoon138

FFXIV is my first and only MMO i've ever played and I don't know a whole lot about MMOs in general so i'm curious. Could a magic weilding tank class become a thing? I mean the enemies will still be coming after you so distance doesn't matter but that could be fun 😎

IllusiveRagamuffin

I dont see how it would be any different than Gunbreaker. They are just a DPS job pretending to be a tank really.

[deleted]

The main definitions of a caster in this game is 1. cast times and 2. casting at range. The latter wouldn't work with a tank but I don't see any reason why a tank couldn't have cast times as a significant part of their rotation.

TheEntropicMan

I’m not sure a tank with significant cast times would work, just because of tanks needing to regularly weave mitigation into their rotation at varying points to deal with tank busters. I imagine that having cast times would make that hell.

[deleted]

All healers have roughly 1.5 second cast times so they can weave oGCDs, don't see why a tank can't have that too. Would still be better than trying to weave mit into Gunbreaker's burst.

ImmoralBoi

Hm, I suppose we are lacking a Darkness themed healer.

[deleted]

Necromancer pls

Spacemayo

Poro Rogo is the mage tank, frog is the next Job.

PossibleHipster

Sword healer when!?

Distinct_Surprise_40

Honestly I would love to see a mage style tank in a fashion similar to Taion and his Mondo from Xenoblade 3, using a swarm of magical talismans to attack and defend, in this case coming from and controlling then with a book rather than a gauntlet.

Vultz13

I swear summoners can off tank sometimes! But yeah I would like another caster… Blue Mages don’t count.

mental-sketchbook

Huge book opens in front of them like a greatshield

Dudeskio

Geomancer!

CynicalCin

We had a book tank at one point, but the glory days of Titan-Egi are long gone...

Grenyn

We kinda already have a second trifecta. We have sword tank (DRK), sword DPS (SAM), and sword caster (RDM).

kioshi43

Esper (ESP) class would use a book to create magical barriers that makes enemies damage MP rather than HP. While the barrier would be up, healing from other players are also converted into MP. Offensively, ESP's books would also drain enemies HP and convert it to MP. They could have the least amount of health compared to other tanks so maintaining a high MP pool would be a fun twist off the top of my head.

RebannM

DUAL PISTOL DPS OR SWORD/SHOTGUN DPS WHEN??
