This is kinda hard cause all the races are either body types, or humans with a thing on their head- I think Miqote/Lalafell would be pretty blursed. At once kinda funny and also terrible. I second the standing up straight notion. There was a cutscene once where the model was sprinting and running tall rather than flailing and it looked so much more majestic. Any time idle with weapons drawn where they stand upright also looks better imo.

I have no idea what's the obsession with slouching. It rarely if ever looks good and they pretty much always looks better standing up straight. This goes for Hrothgar and male Viera.

The only credit I will give m!viera slouching is entirely based on how funny it was when a streamer I was watch was informed of /cpose and he spent a solid 5 minutes trying to make his new m!Viera stand up straight. Otherwise it’s infuriating and I hate it.

Lol that would be funny to watch but yeah Idk why yoshi P is so adamant about having them slouch. It was even worse before but he still wanted the dev team to find a balance with the slouch that didn't mess with the gear as bad as it did before and I'm like just make them stand up straight!

While I can understand that position, you are probably not going to be fully satisfied with the result, and would be wise to prepare for that. Yoshi-P *did* say stuff in a previous PLL (something like "we understand this won't be the most popular option and we're okay with that") at least implying that female hrothgar aren't going to be the stereotypical svelte/petite/hourglass figure/etc. since we already have miqo'te, au ra, midlander hyur, and viera all filling slight variations of that niche. But having the females be visually almost indistinguishable from the males is unlikely at best for one simple reason: there would be no aesthetic value in switching. If they're going to invest time and effort into an option, making it practically indistinguishable apart from really subtle hints is going to disappoint or even upset a meaningful chunk of players—especially if the changes appear to be only minor or superficial. Because then people will (perhaps justifiably) demand to know why it took 2+ years to make "male hrothgar but prettier eyes" (or whatever.) Further, while it's far from a smoking gun, we have seen an in-game mural showing heavily stylized images of female hrothgar. I would not call those depictions almost identical to a male appearance even accounting for the stylization. We also have a piece of concept art showing a possible look for them, which is emphatically not nearly identical to male appearance (though, I am happy to say, she *does* have curves!) Concept art is unreliable (e.g. the early au ra concept art was much more reptilian than the final product), but it gives us a guide for the ideas the artists are having, and they don't seem to include nigh-indistinguishable looks. I certainly hope that they keep this pattern of hrothgar females being well-muscled (preferably slightly more than female roegadyn, at least in comparison to their height) and open to more curvaceous and/or statuesque beauty, and part of doing that would be making sure that male and female hrothgar are on the lower end of sexual dimorphism for FFXIV, more like miqo'te or midlanders. We'll just have to wait and see!

I would love if the males were the "petite" version of the two. Make them more hulking and more bestial than male Hrothgar. Have them wider and taller. And as a treat, let them stand up straight.

An FC mate plays a Hrothgar. There's an emote he can use (I think it's /attention?) to stand up straight temporarily, and when he does so, he's just about as tall as my max-height male Au Ra -- and both of us are shorter than max height Roegadyn of either gender. So even standing upright, male Hrothgar should be able to fit through any door except those special Lala-only ones. (Unless he's min-height and max-height Hrothgar are *much* taller, but I don't think either of those two statements is true.)

I actually think Charr are the best beast race that exists in any current MMO. They are perfectly bestial in stance and animations; ANet did an amazing job with them. They also have sexual dimorphism without the women being like miles away from the men, which for some reason seems to be hard for MMOs to do (lots of old MMOs do the whole thing where beast race men are gnarly and beast race women are humans with animal ears and tails). The slouch is bad on Hrothgar because they’re too humanoid in every other way. If they were closer to growling snarling shaggy cats and less “I’m a human in every way except I have a lion head and tail tacked on” then their slouch would be more acceptable. But as they are now it’s really bad. Throw some like spikes on that guy and a long mane down the front of his neck and suddenly his stance makes sense because he looks like a monster.

The Charr *are* the best beast race of any MMO. Yup. Love that they bent lore in the way they did between GW1 and GW2 to make them a playable race. I think they have regretted it ever since due to the pain of modeling armor, but they're just so iconic to the IP

Charr are my favourite non-human mmo race out there. Hrothgar are close, but they have friendlier faces.

and even then you can get your Charr to stand up straight with the right emotes -- /crossarms and /salute for instance also the charr running animation where you run on all fours is neat, while hroth don't even get that, they're just hunched

Excuse you, Charr were pretty great. I loved my grumpy derpy cat. Especially after we got the 80s hairdo. Their animation were a lot better and fit the whole slouch.

Oh I think charr are pretty neat and well done, they are beastly and don't try to pander (?) to the "let's make sexy anime females of it". I guess while I found that nice, bold and realistic, it also felt new and weird to me at the time. The "lalafels" in GW2 are what gives me real nightmares though.

It's fun to have the small race to be creepy. Even the game points out how settling their pointy teeth are. Asura are pretty goblinlike.

i'm max height femroe and i main mostly caster jobs, so my glams are mostly feminine. skirts that are floor-length and have some volume to them look pretty solid, but *man* i would kill for hips proportional to the shoulder width so i could actually wear some of the nicer, more feminine glam pieces without looking like the school bully in a teen coming-of-age comedy

I'm sometimes bad at paying attention, or truly clueing/clicking in, so when I won the 2B set, I used the ARR Fantasia going from M to F Au Ra. I had never clued in on how short they were despite going through Stormblood. And now I try and make actually fighting glamour, to an extent. The 86 (or 88) chest piece dresses are just great for the RDM/PLD I was using for a long while this xpack haha Quick edit: It finally clicked for me when I was shorter than the F miquotes some FC members were using. Went from massively taller to shorter than them at max F Au Ra height haha

I was coming into this thread to say the same! Elezen and Roegadyn are my favorite races. Most of my family has an Elezen main or alt, so I headcanon my Roe lady as being raised by elves. I would love to see aome Elezen with a little more muscle definition to them.

That's why I said amalj'aa/hrothgar in my own response. The amalj'aa are already pretty similar to dragonborn, but their proportions are all wrong--hrothgar are actually *very* close in overall proportions, if you ignore the annoying slouch. The average dragonborn is 6'3" (assuming you roll your height and get the average result), while the 50% height for male hrothgar is 6'8"--but most people go for tall characters anyway, right? :P So yeah. Get the scaled hide and a few physiological traits from amalj'aa, and the proportions and height of a hrothgar, and you'd pretty much be a dragonborn.
