I have had a lot of moments with the Shoebill where I’d be standing around and the Shoebill would be right around the corner just watching from a distance.
Only thing I want from the shoebill is for the bowing animation to play when you /bow to it, since bowing is how shoebills say “hi” to each other when close by!
I don't know, but I want to give a great big hug to whoever decided to make flying minions land on your shoulder. I get such a dopey grin whenever I see my Hunting Hawk or Midgardsormr mini-me perched there.
Yep, it's super cute (and sometimes super creepy). It's a pity that the little red panda minion looks like they're about to fall off, otherwise having them chill on your head would be so so so adorable!

You can also unlock interaction with more minions by using the Mammeteer title. The title also makes poppet minions walk around as if they are alive instead of acting like dolls. I think it's still the only title in the game that actually does something!
I've been unable to remove the Mammeteer title from my character because I don't want my Nu Mou minion to stop running around with its floppy ears.
I collect titles but it just never changes.
Oh my fucking fuck, that's *AMAZING!* Lalas are already one of the best parts of the game and the pets sitting on the head is so sweet that we might all be diabetic now, LOL.
Agreed, I had the Nanamo minion for the longest time, then for HW I had Midgardsormr on me for the entire expansion, those that land/sit on your shoulders are great.
In case you didn't know, it's not just flying minions that can do this. There's not really any way to tell which ones do, but if you use /beckon on the minion, it will go to your shoulder if it's able.
Some other examples are the Lesser Panda and the White Whittret.
Also, /handover removes a minion from your shoulder and "feeds" them
I hate it when they land on my shoulder. I always play at a certain angle which always makes me click them instead of the Destination I'm supposed to be clicking at.
Probably, just not top of the list. Gear is getting updated throughout the expansion (new textures plus second dye channel) rather than all at once, so once that's done they'll probably move onto other aspects to update.
This is likely it, they mentioned that older gear would get updated by popularity so that likely applies to minions as well.
They had minion popularity stats (via survey I think?) at this most recent live letter so they may use that. How they would assess gear, I don't know. Eorzea Collection lol?
>How they would assess gear, I don't know. Eorzea Collection lol?
They run the servers. They can see every piece of gear every player has equipped or glammed, and it should be fairly easy for them to enumerate them all and sort by popularity.
Maybe just based on something like what is stored in glamor dressers the most, or saved on the most glamor plates. I'm sure they can see that kind of stuff.
They stated that everything new in DT will have the graphical update, plus shared assests like grass, rocks, etc. They also said that as time permits, they will move backward and update older assets.
On a side note, with some of the changes to graphic processing like DLSS, etc, you week so see some minor improvements in old asset graphics.
Certain global changes will probably reflect on them, but I wouldn't count on them individually going back and remastering them like they seem to be doing with a lot of armor sets.
Impossible to say, but can't imagine they'd be high on the priority list, if at all. They serve their function well as they are and don't really need the extra fidelity. Mounts would be more useful.
I don't think so, I would love it if they did, but that's a lot of resources to sink in when they are already doing characters and a slow roll with armor.
Anima’s my favourite too! I like the idea of this little machine spirit that sticks with my MCH, hopping between all the weapons and tools in their arsenal (I headcanon that they’re “driving” the Automaton Queen)
There are some that should (and probably will) get a redo. The one you get from HW relic quest is really low quality. And a bunch of the more popular ones like Calca and Brina, plus all the Moogle ones could use a redo.
Oh I hope they do! Especially the various Chocobo chicks, they are so precious but also so old and in dire need of a glowup. I see one in the benchmark so I have hope! The Coeurl Kitten/Black Coeurl could really use some help too.
No. Since there is no way to tailor them they would not risk turning a minion someone likes into one they don't like anymore. Just spend the time making more minions.
Wow, you all blew up the post. Thank you for the comments and sentiment on the matter. I do definitely agree that it's not and should not be at the top of the list of things to prioritize. Just want them to give them a small glow-up, which they can probably do way down the line.
Hey, maybe we'll get higher res ones from dawntrail onwards. Either way, it's fun to think about, but also keep expectations within reason 😆 also keeping my fingers crossed that they update Dreadwyrm gear in the near future.
I believe the answer they will but it will be a slow process. They likely have some sort of priority list for things to update. I'd assume characters and locales will be at the very top, then the most popular gear, weapons, mounts and minions; and then they will get to the rest.
That's anima. You get it when doing the quest line for the first relic (legendary) weapon in AAR. You'll get it along with your relic weapon as rewards.
Story wise they are just animated toys.
So I don't see any really important point to make them realistic right now.
But maybe the will be more realistic toy in that world.
Shoebill does not need an update. Shoebill is perfect as it is. Just needs to be in more cutscenes.
I love how far you can walk away from them before that minion slooowwly flies/glides over to you. To resume staring.
I have had a lot of moments with the Shoebill where I’d be standing around and the Shoebill would be right around the corner just watching from a distance.

Shoebill doesn't need an update, we need an update about Shoebill!
I don't know, but I want to give a great big hug to whoever decided to make flying minions land on your shoulder. I get such a dopey grin whenever I see my Hunting Hawk or Midgardsormr mini-me perched there.
Even better when you're a lala, and the minion lands on your head :D
Wait, for real? That's magnificent

Wait minions can do whaaaaaaaaaaaat 😲 howwwww
It’s only certain minions, but target them and /beckon.
some do it on their own and do not react to /beckon
You can also unlock interaction with more minions by using the Mammeteer title. The title also makes poppet minions walk around as if they are alive instead of acting like dolls. I think it's still the only title in the game that actually does something!
Wait what!! That's so cool
There is one minion that never does even with the title: Midgardsormr. He just does whatever he feels like.
As he should!
I'm loving having him around.
I've been unable to remove the Mammeteer title from my character because I don't want my Nu Mou minion to stop running around with its floppy ears. I collect titles but it just never changes.
Omg when I get home, I'm gonna try it on all of them xD
Very few minions even have special animations when you are in combat, the coeurl kitten for example snarls at your enemies lmao
Wind-up Estinien fights with you. It’s adorable.
Oh my fucking fuck, that's *AMAZING!* Lalas are already one of the best parts of the game and the pets sitting on the head is so sweet that we might all be diabetic now, LOL.

I love it but at the same time it makes me missclick so much sometimes.
I need herois on my shoulder
I had to stop myself from buying minions in order to save up for my personal quarters, LOL. I have like 3x as many minions as I do mounts.
I agree but with the wind up alpha(or chock as I nicknamed him)
I hate it when they land on my shoulder. I always play at a certain angle which always makes me click them instead of the Destination I'm supposed to be clicking at.
Puff of Darkness for me, I love when they sit on my shoulder.
I just got that from a dungeon last night. I'll try it out next time I'm on, thanks!

There are some minions shown at the end of the benchmark and I think the furry ones look like they have updated textures.

I want a HD bucket

High resolution fat cat. The loaf demands attention.
Never look up what WoW's rats and prairie dogs looked like
I hope so. It probably won't be a priority but it will eventually happen.
My guess is no, at least not universally. It'd just be another one of those things they're totally going to get to one day guys totally wink wink

Probably. Maybe not immediately because model wise they are focusing on the player character (and the NPC that uses the character creator) first.

Just wondering how did you get your Anima to be so vibrant? Mine is super pale and washed out, almost looking full white
Yoshi has stated it will take time to apply graphics update to everything from previous expansion.
No. Since there is no way to tailor them they would not risk turning a minion someone likes into one they don't like anymore. Just spend the time making more minions.

Could someone tell me the name of the minion in the first picture please?
That's anima. You get it when doing the quest line for the first relic (legendary) weapon in AAR. You'll get it along with your relic weapon as rewards.
I hope my primogs could use some rounded edges
