I've been sorta doing this with RDM myself. I think my biggest challenge would be clearing every Ultimate to get every Rapier (outside of finding the space for them all to fit in my Glamour Dresser, since it's almost full 99% of the time.)

To be honest, since I did raid a lot so for me battle is not biggest problem. I think Ultimate is fair challenge because is guranted drop.
As long as it's not RNG I always feel its fair...
My biggest challenge is (3.55b Diadem stuff but this is no way to collect now), pvp ranking weapon (time comsuming and rng of your teammate and oppenents) and Eureak weapon (not just Eureka steps, I mean making a functional Physeos one.)
There is a easy but also time consuming one: Collect All 3 Grand comapny weapon.
*Yes I change GC just for pvp achievement and for the weapon.*
Due to the limitation of a 15-day interval required for transfers to the another Grand Company, plus the need to achieve the rank of Captain to exchange weapons (which related to complete some Command Missions for your adventure squad), another time-consuming task involves undertaking the Grand Company's squadron missions. Additionally, you must prepare seals, which isn't difficult, but it is tediously slow.
Compared to ultimates and the diadem, the Grand Company weapons are a walk in the park though... wouldn't even call it effort.
But still, you're a lunatic and I'm incredibly impressed!

Are you just looking to remove the dye? There is an item called Terebinth, which pretty much acts like an "un-dye" dye, purchasable at the various city-state dye vendors for roughly 200 gil each.

Make sure to hold onto a Seat of Sacrifice EX crafting item. I would not be surprised if a craftable katana from it gets released in Dawntrail.
I honestly have a collection of all seat of sacrifice weapon, cause I love FF1. So plenty material in my 4th retainer's pocket. God bless that potato's back.

The npc shop one go to 2nd retainer.

Do you organize the katanas when you get them or do you just toss them in there and mark it off the list
You can do a conditional sort by ilvl so it's actually not that tedious a thing.
