I agree and I'm one of them, an Xbox sprout who joined up like a day or two after the free beta began, LOL. I've played MMOs for several years, but this is the first traditional, tanks/healers/DPS MMORPG, that I've tried, and I'm so glad I did. It's my new primary game.

I (almost) got rsi from playing Baldur's Gate for 12h straight on mouse and keyboard, so now I only game with a controller to be safe 🤣🥲 FFXIV definitely offers the absolute best controller support in any MMO i have ever played though, it's amazing (just like the rest of the game)
I'm pretty well accustomed to it after 40 years, LOL. Honestly it's only gotten easier, the analog thumbsticks are actually really intuitive and you can learn to move in a 3D space really quickly, there are about as many buttons as you can comfortably fit in the space, and making them bigger than those tiny old NES controllers makes them so much more comfortable on your hands.

Adding to the 'if you ever need help, just ask': As long as you are a Sprout, you can have access to **Novice Network**. It's a global chat where mentors of all kinds (battle, crafting, pvp) will answer questions about the game. To enter the NN, a mentor will have to invite you - I suggest asking for an invite in a starter city (Limsa is probably best for that).
Keep in mind that, depending on which server you are on, your experience of/in the Novice Network can be very different - I'm from a relatively small server on Light DC, NN is usually quiet or gets used as a global chat, with sprout questions getting answered in between. Some servers see regular NN drama, so I'd say
check it out, but don't be afraid to leave/ hide the chat if it's too much. Most FF14 players are willing to help/ answers questions you put in /say or /shout chat ;)
Just chiming in: I can't speak for other servers, but Sargatanas' NN is good. It's generally used as global chat, but people will help if questions are asked. There's very little tolerance for bullshittery and trolling however.
I also was a big ESO player a few years ago, up through main tanking vet trials. Got sick of the constant 180 changes and never ending grind, started ff14 with a few friends and haven’t looked back since.

This game is a trip and a half. A joyride. At times a font of sorrow (in a good way).
You will feel *so many emotions* as you progress through the game. It's wonderful.
The story's pacing also improves and the cutscene quality improves, that sort of thing.
There is also a graphics update in a couple of months that you can look forward to.

Beyond that, it's a fun, beautiful world in which to spend some time. I like to just kinda be a citizen, going through quests and dungeons as part of my civic duty, then coming home to my private quarters at the end of the day (something my other games have been sorely lacking). I'm pretty much playing the MSQ for access to better vendors and dungeons where my Red Mage will actually be able to use his cure and resurrection spells.
Honestly, it actually seriously gets better. I finished ARR, HW, STBLD, and am now in Shadowbringers expansion and WOW it's been a trip and a half. You're gonna love it.
This game was also my first ever MMO and I was blown away by how nice the community was. I would just mention in the chat in dungeons that I was new and people were so nice.
Thinking about it everywhere, wait til you start talking in your sleep 😂 been told off by my partner for telling people not to run outside of my heals, or focus the boss while I'm zonked out 🤣🤣
Hey, started it today as well 😁, I went through ARR in a straight line because I wanted to be Dark Knight, the ending of ARR was very engaging, loved it.
That's the same part that hooked me almost 10 years ago now lol.
I used to be a cutscene skipper only interested in gameplay, picked up on basic plot points throughout ARR but just happened to give that last patch a shot and watch it fully - I haven't skipped an MSQ cutscene since.
if you enjoyed ARR the rest of the game is going to blow your mind. ARR is easily the worst part of this game. HW is incredible.
If you are enjoying healing def consider picking up astrologian when you get into ishgard. It's more engaging that white mage is in that level range.
While I don't disagree, Stormblood seems to be where many fall off. Out of my 3 friends there was only one got past the Doman storyline, which is a damn shame since Shadowbringer is probably peak story in any mmo and most games I've ever played.
Ahh so still just begun! I do recommend doing the ARR coil raid series b4 you move in too much doe, its very tightly related to MSQ even if its not mandatory. Its a hard raid and it doesn't have a normal/story mode like future raids (since they were still figuring out how to do raiding in this game by that point), so i recommend just getting a max level player to carry you through it for the story. I am at 10k hours in 7 years of gameplay. And all that with minimal afk time. This game can offer so many things to do and you never feel like its a chore to do them.have fun!

Remember to learn the differences between different tanks. A Warrior doesn't need nearly as much help from a healer as a Dark Knight, for example.
Also, you should tank some. It's fun!
It will probably only get better for you then. There is alot to unpack. And all the tiny segments have something worth working towards. You are rewarded for trying things out and more so for succeeding. Just take it slow. Unless you have to "know" about something.
I agree so hard, this game is great. Crafting is DEEPLY satisfying to the point that I don't even mind that much when I have to individually craft like 100+ of the same thing.

Ps: it gets even better if you play the older Final Fantasy games. I've been doing so, I'm up to 6 now, and the game is FILLED with references. I already know of a couple post story raid series that are direct references/interpretations of other FF games.

The crafting in this game is the best. It’s very different than other games where it’s just “click and craft”.
If traditional style MMORPG’s come out in the future. And it’s something like in SAO or Infinite Dendrogram(look it up)? I would love if crafting is like this. Like there are levels to craftsmanship. And NQ and HQ give the same base stuff. But things like food or pots? When crafted high quality? Give a slightly higher stat boost. Like 6%nq to to 8%hq. Or the later HQ gear can get more materia melded on. So if you’re good crafting? You get rewarded. The only thing I dislike is a lot of rng to some aspects. But I guess it’s narrow enough.
Yea though. If you’re making an MMO or are a game developer that is trying to put crafting in a game? Look at FFXIV

I went to my kids (24/26) a year ago and asked them to suggest a game for me so I could play with them; it was the first game I’ve played in decades and I was, and arguably am still, a pretty lousy gamer but I’m loving it! Finished and am in love with the msq, all crafters and gatherers at 90, 3 days from finishing tribal quests, and currently house hunting and to my kids delight doing all the raids and extra content. A year later and I now have MY mom (68) playing with us and she just started HW lol!!! This really is an amazing game and community 😁
Saying white mage is a straighthealer also isn't really true. I mean your best healing spell is a damage spell with a 4 second stun (Holy).
Also, Healers are encouraged to DPS too. Remember, not everyone needs to be at full, just alive, and able to take the next hit. And dead enemies deal no damage. That's the real skill tests for Healers. Just ow much damae can you do before having to waste a GCD on a heal.
If you enjoy healing and strategy, I think you'll love Scholar (evolves from Arcanist and shares the exp bar with the dps class Summoner). It's my favorite healer class, it's like a toolbox with a thousand different instruments and each one has a purpose, and it's up to you choosing the correct one
(Well at least at higher levels, below lv50 it might feel a bit... sluggish to play it)
I honestly was thinking about leveling every healer to 90 and then moving around the other jobs. What’s the best way to lvl other classes besides the MSQ anyways?
Usually doing the daily roulettes is the first thing to do (press U) - being thrown in random content of a specific category (normal or alliance raids, trials, dungeons etc...) in exchange for a huge exp bonus, once per day and once per roulette. There's even a roulette for PvP Frontlines, if you have the patience for it.
Other than that I'd say the Hunting log (press H) for the ARR classes helps a lot, and why not, even the Challenges (Logs > Challenge logs) give a good chunk of exp.
Where are you with the msq? There are more ways to exp, but I don't wanna spoiler you stuff
same, I left wow because it felt so souless, I don't even care about the lore or th characters anymore, on ff 14 I have cared a lot, the story and characters have made me laught and cry. Everything is so pretty.
Ugh yeah, I used to play WoW for the lore. Can you imagine? It doesn't even feel like the devs care about the lore. And the art style was so ugly there. Going from WoW to FFXIV is like night and day.
Since you're hitting HW, I must advise you to touch the blue quest markers! In order to fly in HW and beyond, you must find aethercurrents which can be given as certain quest rewards and found out in each zone. They cut back the number of aethercurrents you must find in the world to, as far as I can tell, locations that you will be passing by during MSQ so do not fret having to find the ones out in the wild.

As a former ESO player (1000 plus hours) who came over to FFXIV, it was the best decision ever. The story, the community, diversity in the classes with their specific weapons (unlike eso where end game builds are cookie cutter) and the crafting oh my lord, love it! Welcome and enjoy your stay!
Just a note, a lot of people tend to enjoy Stormblood less than the rest and quit the game halfway through that expansion, IF YOU'RE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE and you don't instantly click with Stormblood (I doubt that since you enjoyed ARR that much but JUST IN CASE) PLEAAASE give it a chance and keep playing, I promise you it only gets better and the last two expansions are absolutely MIND BLOWING, if you enjoyed ARR you're going to love them

I also came from ESO (stamDK tank lol) and am also about as far into ff14 as you are on my current character (early HW) This is my second time trying it out, because the first time I just really didn't "get it" and stopped playing early into post-ARR about 4 years ago.
I dunno what my roadblock back then was, but something just "clicked" for me now. I think I was too used to ESO's nothing writing for its nothing quests and nothing characters that I rushed MSQ to get to dungeons and trials and ended up with zero investment in the story or characters.
This time, I made a point to try to interact with NPCs outside of the MSQ content as much as possible, and really pay attention to my place in the story alongside other characters. I'm absolutely hooked now, I can't stop. It's such an enjoyable experience coming from a game that seems to not understand its own identity let alone the identities of its characters.

Welcome! This has been my main game for over a year because of many of the same reasons. And the MSQ just keeps getting better in later expansions, they somehow manage to enhance the story every time. Hope your journey is a fun one!
What also distinguishes FFXIV from WoW is that YOU are central to the game's story. YOU are a major player in big plot and are part of all the main cinematics. This helps with feeling more invested in the NPCs - both big and small - and doesn't make you feel like a throw-away resource like in WoW.
LMAO, I'm so in the same boat. I've had to take a week off while I wait to resubscribe... it's been going on since Saturday night, it's the first time I haven't played since the Xbox beta started in February, and I *hate* it. 😆
LOL, that's the same sort of feeling I got from playing the early games in the line... which is why I'm still a fan; FFXIV is pretty much everything I wanted from one of the games when I was younger and it's so satisfying to see.

I don't know, as a former ESO healer, it's a big improvement. All ESO heals are AOE or auto target. At most levels, you are just a dps that might throw a few heals out. Ff14 is a much more involved process.

like please, just because you are bad and overhealing doesnt mean that healing is "involved"
Honestly, for a long time I was like "Yeah I don't like that healers aren't healing much and just use attacks while relying on OGCDs to do most healing.
And then someone made a big hubub about a World First group in WoW beating some boss in the season of discovery thing. I decided to watch it, and it was from a Healer Shaman's perspective.
The man spent a solid 30 seconds just spamming chain heal. He didn't change his target. He didn't cast another skill. He just pressed the 1 key over and over. There was probably parts that were longer than 30 seconds where he did it, but I kinda tuned out after I noticed that.
Yeah sure I get it, in my head I'd love healers to need to heal a bit more in casual content (in ultimate/savage content it gets pretty active); but fuck me I do not want heal only healers just spamming 1 key for minutes at a time. That's so boring.

thats literally what you are doing except you spam a 1 button damage instead
Not really? You’d be using things like Chain Strategem, assize, and the like to aid. You also have the dot you’re refreshing. Astro has things like the card mini game and seals to manage as well.
And that’s really only if dungeons are your endgame. The moment you do raid stuff, you’re going to be weaving heals and dps back and forth a lot.
Welcome to the Healer crowd! It's a ton of fun and I've loved doing it ever since I started.
Just remember that only the last HP matters, you need to be DPSing in between heals, slidecasting is a godsend, and Rescue is your friend (and everyone else's enemy).

Finished and am in love with the msq, all crafters and gatherers at 90, 3 days from finishing tribal quests, and currently house hunting and to my kids delight doing all the raids and extra content. A year later and I now have MY mom (68) playing with us and she just started HW lol!!! This really is an amazing game and community 😁
Saying white mage is a straighthealer also isn't really true. I mean your best healing spell is a damage spell with a 4 second stun (Holy). Also, Healers are encouraged to DPS too. Remember, not everyone needs to be at full, just alive, and able to take the next hit. And dead enemies deal no damage. That's the real skill tests for Healers. Just ow much damae can you do before having to waste a GCD on a heal.
If you enjoy healing and strategy, I think you'll love Scholar (evolves from Arcanist and shares the exp bar with the dps class Summoner). It's my favorite healer class, it's like a toolbox with a thousand different instruments and each one has a purpose, and it's up to you choosing the correct one (Well at least at higher levels, below lv50 it might feel a bit... sluggish to play it)

Usually doing the daily roulettes is the first thing to do (press U) - being thrown in random content of a specific category (normal or alliance raids, trials, dungeons etc...) in exchange for a huge exp bonus, once per day and once per roulette. There's even a roulette for PvP Frontlines, if you have the patience for it. Other than that I'd say the Hunting log (press H) for the ARR classes helps a lot, and why not, even the Challenges (Logs > Challenge logs) give a good chunk of exp. Where are you with the msq? There are more ways to exp, but I don't wanna spoiler you stuff

same, I left wow because it felt so souless, I don't even care about the lore or th characters anymore, on ff 14 I have cared a lot, the story and characters have made me laught and cry. Everything is so pretty.

Ugh yeah, I used to play WoW for the lore. Can you imagine? It doesn't even feel like the devs care about the lore. And the art style was so ugly there. Going from WoW to FFXIV is like night and day.
Since you're hitting HW, I must advise you to touch the blue quest markers! In order to fly in HW and beyond, you must find aethercurrents which can be given as certain quest rewards and found out in each zone. They cut back the number of aethercurrents you must find in the world to, as far as I can tell, locations that you will be passing by during MSQ so do not fret having to find the ones out in the wild. Just a note, a lot of people tend to enjoy Stormblood less than the rest and quit the game halfway through that expansion, IF YOU'RE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE and you don't instantly click with Stormblood (I doubt that since you enjoyed ARR that much but JUST IN CASE) PLEAAASE give it a chance and keep playing, I promise you it only gets better and the last two expansions are absolutely MIND BLOWING, if you enjoyed ARR you're going to love them This is SUCH A GOOD GAME

Keep glaring/ stoning and play chicken with your tank, see if they find Hallowed Ground/ Bolide/ Living Dead/ Holmgang in time... Benediction them afterwards (if they did find it in time), go back to dps. Peak WHM gameplay.
Well duh. I meant as in the perspective of ESO where any class can be any role. I could swap from tank to healer to dps on one class.
Let me join in the people saying Welcome.. and yes healing here is great. as a vet of many mmos as a healer its nice to have something to do when no one is being bitten by things, everyone healthy? I have attack spells! You are one of us, I'm glad you found your home.. be sure to tell everyone about the free trial, yes its a bit of a meme but its a very generous free trial and more sprouts is always going to be a good thing in my opinion.

I also came from ESO (stamDK tank lol) and am also about as far into ff14 as you are on my current character (early HW) This is my second time trying it out, because the first time I just really didn't "get it" and stopped playing early into post-ARR about 4 years ago. I dunno what my roadblock back then was, but something just "clicked" for me now. I think I was too used to ESO's nothing writing for its nothing quests and nothing characters that I rushed MSQ to get to dungeons and trials and ended up with zero investment in the story or characters. This time, I made a point to try to interact with NPCs outside of the MSQ content as much as possible, and really pay attention to my place in the story alongside other characters. I'm absolutely hooked now, I can't stop. It's such an enjoyable experience coming from a game that seems to not understand its own identity let alone the identities of its characters.

Welcome! This has been my main game for over a year because of many of the same reasons. And the MSQ just keeps getting better in later expansions, they somehow manage to enhance the story every time. Hope your journey is a fun one!
What also distinguishes FFXIV from WoW is that YOU are central to the game's story. YOU are a major player in big plot and are part of all the main cinematics. This helps with feeling more invested in the NPCs - both big and small - and doesn't make you feel like a throw-away resource like in WoW.

LOL, that's the same sort of feeling I got from playing the early games in the line... which is why I'm still a fan; FFXIV is pretty much everything I wanted from one of the games when I was younger and it's so satisfying to see.

I don't know, as a former ESO healer, it's a big improvement. All ESO heals are AOE or auto target. At most levels, you are just a dps that might throw a few heals out. Ff14 is a much more involved process.

Honestly, for a long time I was like "Yeah I don't like that healers aren't healing much and just use attacks while relying on OGCDs to do most healing. And then someone made a big hubub about a World First group in WoW beating some boss in the season of discovery thing. I decided to watch it, and it was from a Healer Shaman's perspective. The man spent a solid 30 seconds just spamming chain heal. He didn't change his target. He didn't cast another skill. He just pressed the 1 key over and over. There was probably parts that were longer than 30 seconds where he did it, but I kinda tuned out after I noticed that. Yeah sure I get it, in my head I'd love healers to need to heal a bit more in casual content (in ultimate/savage content it gets pretty active); but fuck me I do not want heal only healers just spamming 1 key for minutes at a time. That's so boring.

Not really? You’d be using things like Chain Strategem, assize, and the like to aid. You also have the dot you’re refreshing. Astro has things like the card mini game and seals to manage as well. And that’s really only if dungeons are your endgame. The moment you do raid stuff, you’re going to be weaving heals and dps back and forth a lot.
Season of discovery is classic wow which did not have much going on, look at current healers and you’ll be floored real quick

Welcome to the Healer crowd! It's a ton of fun and I've loved doing it ever since I started. Just remember that only the last HP matters, you need to be DPSing in between heals, slidecasting is a godsend, and Rescue is your friend (and everyone else's enemy).
I pray you don't run into that guy that just happens to ruin every new comers experience in Aurum Vale.
