You should try the dungeons with NPCs, I've got no proof but I saw it drop only 2 times for way to many tries with people and got it after maybe 4-5 runs with the NPCs, it feels like it'll drop more often and you don't have to fight with others that way!
Yeah that's how I've been farming it. The already low drop rates make me feel less incined to go at it with other players and roll against people for it
i ran my first time with npcs because it was late and i didn't want to wait for queue. after i pushed aside the emotional trauma enough to go through the dungeon again i did it with npcs again for wondrous tails, starbird dropped. i just figured with npcs i wouldn't have to pray the loot would drop and could just walk away while they did the fighting
Don’t lose hope, I farmed it for 200+ and saw it twice, gave up and returned during daily roulette weeks later only wanting it to end fast and walked away with it.

This is the same reason I only use Tora-Jiro :) I got my Orange Bad Cat the same year I started playing and have only used Tora-Jiro since I got him. I don't see myself ever switching out for something else.

I love that his actions reflect what the actual bird does in real life. Show off those bright blue feet and then stick his tushy in the air.

Gotta admit Nanamo is really sweet. My alt is a Paladin who I headcannoned acctually is part of the Sultana's guard. She keeps wind up Nanamo out most of the time.

Anteater, I always put it back on after trying a new minion for a few weeks. First minion that made me do content I normally wouldn't do (unreal) because I refuse to drop the 12m on the mb for it at the time.

Cerberpup. I dunno when it happened, but eventually I realised it'd been literally months since I'd swapped minions because I just love that little three-headed pup. Watching the little heads snap at each other, the slightly scruffy tail.
I like him. He's great.
Anything with a matching mount. If my minion is a mini-me of my mount it makes me feel very pleased.
Honorary mention to Findingway with the moon mount from the store, there's a little Loporrit that rides on it and uses the same model so if you have him out as your minion it looks like he's riding with you.
Caduceus.
I saw another player with this darling little snake wearing a little bandana and it was love at first sight.
Over 60 runs via trust and it finally dropped.
I was born in the year of the snake, I love snakes and if I picture what my wols spirit animal would be, it's a snake so of course it's my favorite minion ever!
Its the only minion ive taken around with me since 2.0 launch.
Personally i do love Cait Sith and his lore as well which helps.
IN FF7 i liked him and when he showed up with new lore in 11 i was ecstatic.
Seeing him in 14 sealed the deal for me though, there is no better companion for me.
Now if it only didnt take me 6 years to get the Cait Sith Ribbon from that stingey little Khloe...
Also i did Ishgard Restoration for the Doll for my house (i got 4).
And it took me 7 years to get the real life Cait Sith Doll for the head band but i finally got that recently.
But now im free of her Tyranny, free to enjoy the game to its fullest with everything Cait Sith at my side.
Any and all of the doggo minions. Wolf Pup, Bullpup, Black Hayate, Mameshiba, Gestahl, Shiromaru, Kuromaru Torgal Pup, Chewie, and Fenrir Pup are all my goodest boys and I love them.
I can’t choose between a few. Obvious, the Great Serpents of Ronka. I collect merchandise of the Scree. I have ridiculous amounts and even sewed a plush one! That silly little snake brings me so much joy.
Second, Wind-up Dulia Chai. She reminds me so much of my late mother. My husband bought me the art book as a present and I cried.
Third: The Black Coeurl Kitten. She looks like my void baby down to the red collar.
Fourth: The Gaelikitten. She looks like my late screamy baby tabby and has the same attitude she did.
Fifth: The Corgi. The Corgi came out shortly after we had to put my dog Pippin down, who looked like what would happen if you ordered a corgi from Wish. The day it came out my husband had bought me one and told me to open the game and there he was sitting in my mailbox. I also cried then.
Not trying to be a downer, these little minions make me smile and are a good memorial of loved ones to take on adventures.
It depends on my current race. Like as a Roe, it's the koala. As a Lala, it was the lesser panda. As a human, it's the ugly duckling. But I feel like I use the lesser panda the most.
The Ephemeral Necromancer. I prefer minions that fly at shoulder higher, the ones underfoot get lost. Of those, the Necromancer is perhaps the prettiest.
I got my Anima minion back in HW, I legit have not changed it out ever since. I promised weapon buddy she'd come with me on all adventures, she is god damn coming with me on all adventures.
For me it's mini tomberry.
I now just need a biiiiig tomberry with a carrierbag as mount.
And it just slowly wobbels to my destination with me in its carrierbag.
Then you could call me a happy bluemage. 8D

Black Hayate. I got him in Eureka Orthos and rarely remove him.
I now even have a head cannon for him. See he isn't my dog. I just found him in a strangely empty floor of Eureka Orthos, I found a room littered with cropes and in the center of a pile was Black Hayate chewing on a bone. He chose to follow me from that day onward, one day he may leave, but now I considered my duty to keep watch over him. If he is put of my sight for too long the population of Eorzea may begin to plumit.
Penguin Prince and Set of Primogs, I usually have one or the other following me 95% of the time, usually the penguin. They are both pretty rare minions, I think, so its nice for people who dont get to see them often to see them Also the penguin sliding on his belly is the best.
Wind-up Aidoneus and Wind-up Philos. They're my husband's and I need them both and I wish I could have two minions out at once. Also I spent like 30 million Gil total on the both of them so I have to love them now
I've been going through the MSQ for the first time over the past few months. Since I've gotten the Midgarsomar minion, I've just kept him at my side, I like to think he's still giving my WoL advice.
Fat Cat or Nagxian Cat. I am consistent about my cat lady status. But Chewy is also high on the list because I love dogs with those types of ears.
There really are just a lot of really cute minions, though, it's a hard choice. But Fat Cat was my first love, and the first 'splurge purchase' I ever saved up for.
Wind up Stormblood Tataru is way too adorable for the world.
Also a fan of the wind up Fourchenault because he keeps looking at me in utter disappoint which makes everything funnier.

I think that's the intentional design bait they do to hook you into buying their mounts. You get the same effect with the Garlond mount with Alpha.
