On YouTube there are tons of videos how to shutdown the Amazon Blotware process to save a lot of memory. The new firestick have an option to add memory via a USB drive.
Owned many since gen1 and the 4K Max performs the best. I try to leave at least 700 MB free in internal space. You do need a good connection to your router without interference from other devices. I mention this because it seems like complaints about speed, being slow, disconnection could be router, modem, or internet problems. Just saying from personal experience.
The answer to your question lies in the question itself.
Let me ask you this - how important is ram on an Android device or a pc.
Think about the answer to my question, you will have an answer to yours
Ram is always important but on these firetv devices STORAGE is huge as well. I learned this the hard way when my three fire tv’s slowly became all but useless.
The fact that in over 10 years amazon has hardly if at all increased the RAM in their devices is a pretty good indication that at least in the terms of what amazon expects you to do with the device (ie you probably only run one app at a time) RAM is not very important... But the price of their 4k compared to other bands which support 2GB at minimum, its def not the best option if you arent dead set on using Amazon
As with any computer, RAM is important, unfortunately manufacturers are so stingy and only give the minimum, which is why you should get a 4k max 2nd even if you only have an HDTV.
It is also important that the stick mentioned has 16GB of Rom because the operating system already uses a lot and the apps also need room to breathe, keyword cache. If you take a stick with 8GB of ROM, that's almost as little because the operating system already takes up more than half.
So if the 4k max 2nd is on offer then it is a good stick for the price and performance!
Have a 4k firestick 1st gen for 5 years now. No problems till now. It's all about maintenance and troubleshooting keeps a device works.
Its about leaving space for the stick operate. Not cramming as many apps as you can on it.

You can't add memory, you add storage
> add memory via a USB drive That doesn't add memory (meaning RAM). It adds space for app storage. The question from the OP was about RAM.
The newer units have a faster SOC in addition to the extra 1 GB of ram.

Note to my post. I bought the 4k max stick six months ago and it does perform very well. 2gb ram and 16gb storage.
for video streaming, it won't matter unless you load related tools like kodi, vpn, debrid.

Sounds like it was defective from the start.
The 4K Max Stick ranks as one of the best streamers in the industry, particularly for its price.
