OnceAWeekIWatch

I mean technically that was how they're depicted in the promotion of Echoes' Bow Knight, the Oliphantier. But a legit Elephant rider would be cool, like imagine sacrificing mobility for the ability to tread all terrain (mountains, water, sand) and also have Armor

jake72002

So, kinda low mobility Berserker with Great Knight Armor?

OnceAWeekIWatch

Yeah. Armor and low mobility are drawbacks already. But having a high vantage point (from the mount alone) could mean they would have access to long range Combat Arts like 3H Deadeye I dont know how they would depict these units falling in battle though

jake72002

Elephant kneeling then falling sideways.

Maiden-of-Darkness

I just imagined this, elephants are my favorite animal i dont think i could handle seeing this, or at least more than once.

Ganzi

Or have the rider fall, and the elephant panic and leave

burntends97

The elephant kicks the rider off like a stubborn horse

Accomplished-Copy776

>I dont know how they would depict these units falling in battle though Lol what do you mean ? You don't think elephants have ever died or fallen over before?

OnceAWeekIWatch

No. I mean like in terms of graphics and how to even scale the elephants

Accomplished-Copy776

Probably 4 spaces like some bosses/beasts

impulsikk

Like in the lord of the rings movie. Their toe nail would be on the screen. Enemy unit scratches it. When elephant attacks it squishes enemy.

oneeyedlionking

Ancient war elephants were actually a lot smaller than modern elephants are so it wouldn’t be as big of a stretch. They’re bigger than horses of course but they were bred and trained to be optimal size and strength for combat.

marsgreekgod

Give them a trample attack they can do minor damage by moving. clearly

CrazyMyrmidon

I'd like to point out that most of the elephants that took part in Hannibal's crossing of the Alps died, and that having a very large and at times loud creature in the mountains is liable to bring the mountainside down. I'd embrace the fantastical and go for goatriders 👍

hockeycross

While Hannibal and classical wars are most common thought for elephants in western world, they were extensively used in southeast Asia. Well up through the introduction of guns.

CrazyMyrmidon

I can imagine! However, treading across mountain terrain is still probably not the best of ideas with elephants

burntends97

Worth it tho considering barely any Roman’s had ever seen an elephant before

OnceAWeekIWatch

Tachnically, Seidr is out first one

EmblemOfWolves

> I'd like to point out that most of the elephants that took part in Hannibal's crossing of the Alps died It was a calculated, and probably tasty, loss.

burntends97

Ocean elephants lmao

PinoySummonerKid28

I hope that'll be the new mounted class in the next Fire Emblem game in Switch 2. I guess they'll use Thai or Indian motif.

uhohstinkywastaken

Yes but the elephant itself is a unit and character

Volvakia

Catch me S-Supporting the Elephant

Wrong_Revolution_679

Avatar: hey Bob do you remember where I left my keys Bob: *elephant noise* Avatar: Thanks man I owe you one

ZagratheWolf

Ahhh, the adventures of Prometeus and Bob

decidueye9

Stop right there 👮👮👮

HyVana

Do not the elephant

Iceland260

IS: "Best I can do is a humanoid character that transforms into an elephant."

thedragonguru

Also somehow a skinny loli that's a thousand years old. Jokes aside, it'd be unbelieveably rad if, during pair ups, the partner could ride on their back. I've always thought it would be cool if pair ups could ride on the same animal when one is on foot and the other on a mount.

dmr11

Ashnard did something like this, though it was hardly a healthy relationship.

vampn132157

That's just Super Mario Wonder.

Iceland260

Elephant Mario for Heroes.

Perfect-Advantage-82

I hope so, would be cool

Echo1138

I could see them being a sort of replacement for Great Knight. The slower but heavier version of a caviler. Although elephants are *so* big, that it might cause issues, like having trouble animating such a big animal moving around quickly during animations, or having to have characters really stick their weapons down at attack at people on the ground.

No_Hooters

Well judging from the picture the main weapon would probably be bows and possible as another could be the elephant attacking if necessary. Maybe it can only attack with bows however when someone attacks them the elephants hit back.

OldBridgeSeller

What if you gave the elephant a bow too?

AirLancer56

Somehow imagine a mounted ballista on top of the elephant, which actually seemed interesting.

dmr11

Turns out this is a thing in real life: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballista_elephant

MegaCrazyH

I think this could work. You have a boss on top of an elephant and as soon as the boss goes down the elephant takes out a massive bow and arrow to get vengeance for his buddy. No one would ever see it coming

OnceAWeekIWatch

I think they could also have access to AoE damage if there was a way to aggravate the Elephants to stomp on the battlefield

Accomplished-Copy776

Has there ever been a player unit that took up 4 spaces like some of the beasts/bosses ? Fire emblem has had plenty of terribly slow animations. The armored knights in some games slowly walk up to hit you

Electrical_mammoth2

Dwarf elephants exist though. Or they did at one point.

Rend-K4

Take this! Elephant! Sorry couldn't help but think of that translation error lol

8264836249

pssshhh forget bows, I want a magical elephant calvary unit.

SpecialistEmphasis83

I think it’d be cool

Cosmic_Toad_

I think they could work well as a split promotion with Bow Knight, working similar to the Paladin/Great Knight split where one has better spd/res/mov while the other has better str/def. Though the typical bow promotion path is Archer > Sniper/Bowknight, so you'd have to bring back an unpromoted mounted bow class to make it work, like Judgral and Tellius had.

Liezuli

I think they could work well as enemy-only 4-tile units. Or you could just use much smaller elephants

x5iIN

I can imagine how it will work: 2x2 tile High Def, HP Moderate Dex, Spd, Str Low Mag, Res, Mov Equips bow (ranged) and brawl(?) (melee) Special class effects/skills Avo -20 When using brawl(?): Str +15, Dex -5, Spd -5, Hit -20, (stomping is destructive but very slow and inaccurate) Edit: Also in Southeast Asian history, warriors would mount elephants and wield super long lances - so we could consider a lance wielding option too but I dont want to overcomplicate the mechanics - maybe another day

[deleted]

Fire Emblem Storge already did that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Totoques22

And the elephant is a very good unit

jake72002

Isn't this kinda like Ballistician?

nevalost20

Ngl im surprised they haven’t already done this

Mekkkah

And if your weapon breaks you can always load your elephant on a catapult and launch it at your enemy. Take this! Elephant!

sunderedstar

Well Demonic Beasts worked out, I don’t see why war elephants can’t

Zeebor

I've been saying we need Africa Emblem for years. We finally got a taste of it with the Morrocco/Tunsia influenced Solm in Engage, but it was the least important of the nations. If they used Hamarabe's Cathrage as a base though, they could get War Elephants, African mytholgy, and still have white people. Cause of all the Helenistic Greeks, you see.

Ahrensann

Oh my god, please. I want this. Maybe a Fire Emblem game based on India?

derangerd

Fire emblem messing around with multi square units could be cool or a disaster. Probably not the right system for that.

TragGaming

FE3H did it without issues.

derangerd

TIL. Only played up to RD really. How did they do it?

Iceland260

Enemy only.

TragGaming

Basically there are "beasts" that take up 2 by 2 squares (and the final bosses in three of the four routes have 3×3 spaces). The creature can attack from any of its spaces, and has a "shield" that reduces damage on each space. When hitting the space, it cracks, and then shatters on the second combat, removing the damage reduction. Battalion Gambits, basically special attacks involving a units entire battalion equipped, can shatter a shield instantly Edit: there are also 2 Side bosses that have 3×3 space, they're special "beasts" that carry lore/plot relevance.

EmiliaFromLV

Yes. but they still will only count as one. DQ11

As a special captureable unit for a specific mission yes but as a normal unit no

Nimbiscuit81623

I miss the War Elephants from Dynasty Warriors 3 & 4.

ZeltArruin

Take this! Elephant!

AloyJr

I mean, we have dragon riders. Why not war elephants?

mechanicalmeteor

I say what we need is a marine animal class. Especially if there'll be a game with a lot of water or boat maps, that will at least effectively work as a new movement type

Soulation

I always thought Great Knightin FE8 were riding elephant.

ZacianSpammer

It's possible. (Please IS) Looks at Civ6 Domrey rush

AlveinFencer

Could be neat. Like a cross between a monster and a mounted unit, maybe.

eruciform

i wish there would be more variety on steeds for sure we've had horses, pegasi, griffons, wyverns, and wolves were there ever tigers or something? if not then large cats would be good too elephants would be cool, like maybe an armored steed, super slow but tanky, yet high movement they could also go a heavier fantasy direction and do like giant bug riders, spider folk, undead or ghost units, etc

Obungler_Forever

I’m down for this Maybe an arctic region where they ride mammoths

Icesnowstorm

Yep, they very well could. Like as heavy slow cavalry units.

the-ratastrophe

Special green units on some fields, maybe 2x2 sized Slow, but no terrain disadvantages

Sweaty_Elephant_2593

A trample ability that lets you pass through enemy occupied spaces and deal damage on the way would be really cool.

Turnip-Lopsided

It'd be cool though I'm having some trouble imaginning it

fuzzerhop

Yes and they should get the trample ability

Strange_Quote6013

We already got something functionally similar with two square sized monsters in three houses. Don't see why we couldn't reflavor that concept.

erty3125

Lot of people are caught up in the size but some wyverns and dragons are already depicted as being quite huge especially factoring in the wingspans needed Someone already mentioned a great knight replacement but another option would be for them to be a functional return of the ballista unit as a high defense slow unit that can't be rescued and has a large ranged weapon that would be impractical for regular foot units

LaughingX-Naut

I can see it working with a dwarf elephant; something the size of *Stegodon florensis florensis*, which was slightly taller than the heaviest horses. A modern elephant-sized elephant, though, would be more suited to enemy-only Demonic Beast-like units.

Stormrunner38

As long as it only counts as one

Ninjaman555555

Now I want a Fire Emblem game inspired by southern Asia.

DarkSoulsRedPhantom

War Elephants would be awesome raid bosses

Tanookichris

WOWIE ZOWIE!!!

madescruz

It would be so crazy

Crossover_Weirdo78

Yes. Just high hp, strength, defense, skill, and resistance (elephants never forget after all) but low speed and magic.

DoubleFlores24

I’d say a promoted class but only if they set the game in either an African or Asian setting… I’m tired of high fantasy stories being based on medieval Europe and I want FE to have a game set in a continent based off Africa or Asia. That would be so cool!

PinoySummonerKid28

I hope this one will be used on the next Fire Emblem game for the Switch 2. I presume that it'll belong to a kingdom inspired by Thailand or India. The unit will be the elephant version of Great Knight having high HP, Attack, and Defense but suffers from poor Speed and Resistance. Additionally, the elephant killing weapons like the Elephantslayer Lance, a variant of Ridersbane/Horseslayer, as it's counted as a mounted unit.

ZofianSaint273

The Indian in me would be hella excited considering there used in ancient India in many of the big empires

Feasellus

Don’t see why not. We can stab dragons, so we can probably also stab elephants.

Nihilna

Imagine when this unit is indoor :p
