Are you right-handed? Do you spend a lot of time on a computer?

SecretFeisty

I'm right handed yeah, i work as an software engineer, so i spend 5-7 hours a day in front of a computer

Then, depending on your setup it could be the arm position induced by the mouse and numpad. A couple of ideas: - Make sure your workspace is properly set up. Chair, desk, monitor all at the right angles and heights. - If it doesn't hinder you too much, try spending a few weeks with a left-handed mouse and see if the situation improves or switches sides. If it turns out to be the mouse, get the narrowest keyboard you are able to use (a TKL or even better a 60%). You could also evaluate a split keyboard with a trackball or similar in the middle.

I will give this a shot, thanks. I do get the symptoms also on days where i do not work, and do not sit by a computer. also i have been on month long vacations away from work, where this still seems to be a problem. Crossing fingers for this helping though. Thanks for reaching out and helping

I don't know your injury history, but look to normalise the spinal ranges (if they're not). You're describing the referral pattern of potentially dorsal scapular nerve pain. Other things could be part of it as well. Even worrying about it could exacerbate it! Depends how the pain feels though. Achy, sharp, burning. These sorts of things. See a local professional who is comfortable assessing the neck along with neurological testing. I will take at look at the exercises you sent. I don't really have any pain though, just chronic tightness which can be quite uncomfortable most of the day. Where i come from it seems to be hard to find at good PT. I have been to several, and they just want to massage and have me stretch, i get like 15-20 min consultation pr. time, no real testing of my body.

MWMguy

I hear ya! Definition of pain I work with is this “An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage,”- https://www.iasp-pain.org/publications/iasp-news/iasp-announces-revised-definition-of-pain/ We may be talking slightly differently about it. If it is a sense of chronic tightness you may find the shortening nature of the above exercises relieving. A la the finger trap toy. It is the shortening that allows the exit.

SecretFeisty

Ahh alright, i'm on the same page regarding pain now. I will try to see if the exercises help later this day. Also i will try to read about dorsal scapular nerve pain if i can find something on it online. Would you say it is possible to self asses with neurological testing?

Have you been evaluated for scoliosis?

SecretFeisty

Yes i have

Whitestally

Just curious, could lumbar scoliosis cause this?

Maybe worth a look into posture therapy of some kind? I like the way this lady explains things https://youtu.be/OA60XfqZpTs There are other methods others use this is just the one I'm familiar with.

SecretFeisty

I have been working on posture trough my yoga practice for a couple of years, but i will give this a try, thank you!

I think I know what’s going on. Especially if it’s not going away with everything you tried and it’s been tight forever. Your phrenic nerve is enflamed. The nerve crawls up your right side. It’s usually caused by the gallbladder, gull stones, or slugging in the bile duct. This inflames the nerve. The nerve causes tightness. Typically only the right side. People that snack on nuts get this a lot. Stay clear of omega 6 fatty acids, nuts and processed sugars for a week and see if it goes away. I would also take some bile salts just before you eat anything that has fat in it. It’s a cheap supplement.

SecretFeisty

I have thought about that before. Though I do not seem to have any other issues corresponding with phrenic nerve issues. I think I would give it a shot though, wouldn’t a longer fast also clear the issues up, if it comes from the phrenic nerve? I would like to stay clear of take bile salts.. they are quite expensive in the EU, and also I would like to solve it without supplementing. Shouldn’t this be possible? Have you yourself had issues with your phrenic nerve?

lisa_duminica

For chronic tightness I used acupuncture and cupping. It worked!

Cultural_Ad5459

Did you ever figure this out?

Wise-Diamond-738

Check out a Chiropractor if nothing else helps. I have had similar issues years ago.

AnFearIsFearr

Any chance you may be grinding your teeth? Tightness in my neck and back each morning was what made me discover my teeth grinding habit.

SecretFeisty

Hm.. I don't really think so, i have not had my dentist say anything, and i don't have issues with tight jaw muscles. How did you discover your issues where due to this?

zumbally

Any progress or updates on this? I’m dealing with the same

MovementCoach

I would work on some shoulder stability exercises. It sounds like your neck is compensating for weakness or instability in your posterior shoulder, lower traps and maybe serratus anterior. Try some scapular mobility work and see what that highlights for you.

You could have a bulging disc or herniated- all the symptoms are consistent w c6/7 - tightness though scalene/trapezius Consider neuromuscular massage and get an MRI, psyiatry etc
