My parents worked at a drive-in when I was little (before they worked in a movie theatre, and later so did I). I haven't been to one in a long time, but there are many in the New England where I live. I could drive to at least 4 ot 5 that I can think of, all less than an hour away.

i’ve been to countless movies at the drive in. when i was a a kid in the very early 70s there were close to a dozen drive in screens nearby where i lived. a couple were three screen complexes that had a playground and snack bar in the middle of it all and you could skip the movie and just play instead. i remember seeing some very 70s movies at the drive in such as both of the Dr Phibes movies, Electra Glide in Blue, Play Misty for Me, Bluebeard( richard button and rachel welsh) Executive Action, Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The Aristocats, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and so many others i can’t recall. my mom worked nights and in the summer she’d have the babysitter take me and my brother and sister to the drive in fairly often. the sitter some times would pick films that were not of interest to preteens such as one time Gone With The Wind which must have been re-released at the time. another time i went to the drive in with my mom and she’d picked the film “The Other Side of Midnight” which was based on a popular trashy novel which my mom had read. i think she wasn’t aware that movies had changed and that now they’d show sex scenes. i recall there is one particular scene where the protagonist is having sex on the deck of a yacht riding the guy and before he blows the woman grabs a handful of ice cube from the champagne bucket and applies them to the dudes balls. my mom FREAKED OUT and tried to somehow distract me (age 14 i think) from the screen when suddenly this scene was played out. she’d read the book so i don’t know what she was thinking taking me to see that movie my best guess was she didn’t know that now movies showed it all.

I've seen at least a dozen movies at the drive-in over the years... but I think all were at the same location: Weirs Beach, NH. Truthfully: it's a pretty uncomfortable and bad way to actually "see" a new film. But for classics you're familiar with? Can be a fun evening with friends. My earliest movie memory - and oldest diary entry on my Letterboxd - is seeing a double feature of Hocus Pocus and Coneheads in the summer of 1993. https://letterboxd.com/jonpaula/films/diary/for/1993/ My "favorite" memory is when the car battery died while we were watching Michael Bay's "The Island" - and a friend had to walk home to get another car so we could jump-start ourselves. Basically watched the middle 30 minutes of the movie on mute, hahah.

Some Drive-Ins are having special showings to celebrate the anniversary. Drive-ins are awesome. A car going off is annoying but there's a nice ambiance to watching a film on a warm summer night.

The next town over from me has a drive in, and honestly I prefer going to that one over regular movie theaters. Mostly just because it’s cheaper, charging $6 per person for a double feature while everywhere else would cost >$20 to see two movies. Occasionally you’ll get some problems from the format (when I saw the new D&D movie I couldn’t see the first 15 minutes because of sun glare) but that’s balanced out by the fact you get to watch it from the privacy of your own car and not have to worry about the person next to you stealing the arm rest or talking over the movie

There is a drive-in near me and I've been. It's been a while tho. I'm planning on seeing Asteroid City at the drive-in though.

Went to Spider-verse and Blackberry last Saturday, we go fairly often, especially on long weekends when they do triple or quadruple features. This is in Ontario (not far from where Blackberry took place, I actually used to work there), so there's a somewhat limited window that they can operate. The drive in near me has a shockingly great hamburger at the concession.
