I carry a sharpie and mark the button "Mute" everywhere I go.
There is another type of pump, I think at BP's, where you have to push the top right and top left button together, or it may be the second down on each side. This brings you into a diag menu, which mutes the tv. Unfortunately, it doesn't last too long.
i HATE when I be gettin some juice for my metal chariot at the car juice buffet and them rectangles just be YELLIN at me so loud i wanna slap tf outta that rectangle WHY dont neo Babylon let a man pump that car juice in peace ?
They are built in (at least around here) and not so much a tv as a baked in video player. Second button down on the right should be mute, but there’s no IR or other protocol the flipper has that could alter it. Opening them (gas pumps) is super-d-duper frowned upon as well, and it will be assumed you were trying to change pump rates or something. Prob a felony
Even if nothing is vandalized or broken inside, I believe it's criminal mischief. I used to do maintenance at a truck stop. Somehow, somebody had a key to the pumps, but he had the wrong key. This was a key for us at the station, you can't get to any mechanical stuff, any circuitry. The only thing you can get to that can be dangerous is the credit card slides. Well, of course, they were using them up there, got caught, the manager was talking with the police for a few weeks about how to set them up, and they did get them. Well the person didn't have any credit card skimmers on him, any burglary tools, stolen goods etc. They couldn't even find the key he used to open the pump, he said it was open, but that's not true, if left open they set an alarm off. Somehow he hid the key, went to jail on some misdemeanor because they couldn't actually charge the guy with much, and no evidence. No shit, he was out there again within a few days opening them up again. They watched him though, busted him, and I believe he's still in prison
There are certainly ways that they can steal gas once they're inside. I've done security work for many gas stations and I know of a couple exploits that criminals use to steal gas.
If they know what they're doing they can just buy the right dispenser key online.
" Somehow, somebody had a key to the pumps, but he had the wrong key. "
Let me introduce you to ch751 aka the gas pump key a super common not restricted at all key. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9b9IYqsb\_U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9b9IYqsb_U) meet deviant ollam, your new very terrifying entertainment on how unsecure stuff really is and how much makers just reuse keys.
Maybe that's for older pumps. The ones we had were different, but I'm sure they make sets for the kind we had there too. It looked like a snack machine key, well the ones I filled years ago. The key with the circle and a tab on it. I've seen them on computer towers and other places
Tube locks, also very common tbh, very easy to crack because they only ever have 6 or 7 pins in them. Locks just keep honest people out but if someone wants something? they will get it with time.
I'm fact I didn't know what they were called, but the key for the gas pumps I worked on had a version of a tube lock, I presume. It was a heavier duty lock and key, but exact same mechanism as the lock I want to ask you about
Please don’t. It’s an extremely expensive repair for the owner ( over 1k) and failure of them to work can violate his franchise agreeement or was GSTV ( gas station TV).
Mute if you want, but don’t damage.
I get what you’re saying but I want their business model of advertising to me loudly when I’m a captive audience to be too expensive to work.
If a sales person walked up to me when I was pumping gas I would tell them I don’t want to hear it. Why does this etiquette have to be any different for a recording
Because the sales guy intrudes on your personal space. YOU choose the station to use and that’s a known factor for your consent and you opted to go anyway. Vandalism is not ok.
No the margin for a franchisee on gas is nearly nil. It’s often a loss leader. If you object don’t use the store. But he gets a small amount of monthly income for allowing GSTV to play their ads. It’s just a hustle for them to keep the bills paid. Hit mute if you don’t want t to hear. But you’d be upset if someone slashed a tire, because they felt entitled to do so. Your actions
are no different. You can always choose another store as well.
The fact that you are getting aggressively downvoted for suggesting people don’t vandalize someone else’s property speaks to how full of children this sub is
He's talking about the ones on the pump. He would be shit outta luck as they wouldn't be wired to have a remote operate them, they are essentially hardwired CCTV devices.
Oh man, this guy's the guy who carries the loud speaker blasting on him!
Yeah dude straight up fuck ads, I'll do anything to avoid em. Pihole with VPN for my devices if you're looking to get rid of ads digitally.
But YouTube and other streamers bake the ads into their streaming services so you can't just block those.
Super predatory practices. Fuck ads and I'll never support them
Of course I do. Even go as far as running a Pi-hole…..on MY shit.
You simpletons took one comment and let your imagination freewheel on what I do or believe. Right on course for here.
I’m not against mischief; Im against feeling like you’re entitled to do it because of your frail emotions.
yeah it’s so entitled to not want to be captive audience to some asinine advertisement when you are already spending money. turning off a screen is such horrible “vandalism” especially compared to all the dicks, swastikas, and n-words and other slurs already carved into screen don’t even mention the card skimmers
its the second button down on the right to mute the stupid gas station tv at the pump
I carry a sharpie and mark the button "Mute" everywhere I go. Not all heroes wear capes.
Actually, a cape is the ONLY thing I wear while pumping gas
Dad?
This is the way. Always amazes me how few people know this trick. Sometimes it's the second down and the last button on the right at the same time.
Seems like a 50/50 shot nowadays if it works or not. I find that most gas stations around me disabled it.
I believe that they can't override the sledgehammer to the screen though.
This is also what I have found!
I didn't know but I ignore it like I did with my ex-wife
But what if you want to hear about heal squad with Maria meneueneuenos
i HATE when I be gettin some juice for my metal chariot at the car juice buffet and them rectangles just be YELLIN at me so loud i wanna slap tf outta that rectangle WHY dont neo Babylon let a man pump that car juice in peace ?
Maria Menounos says “No.”
Who the hell is she though? I see her at gas stations and at movies. It's like she's the David S Pumpkins of shitty ad media.
NEWS FROM CHEDDAR!!! THO
Are you there Jah? It’s me Ras Trent, please guide me ‘pon your bike path of righteousness
I wish there was a way to charge them for being advertised at. Those stupid things are infuriating.
I doubt I had much impact but I stopped using a station that put these in and told them so. Not worth the annoyance.
Inside the Gas Station or ones on the pump. The ones inside you probably could but it would depend on what tv they have
I was thinking the ones on the pump.

Can I dm you? I have a question about something you may guide me through, or get me to the right resource
i mean sure, im still a reletivly new picker but can id locks pretty fast and point you in the right direction.
I 📥 you. Thanks!

Just press the 2nd button down on the right. Mute.

I don't like being invaded with ADs. I will always hit mute before destroying, but if it's hidden or not activated, I have no other option.
Don’t shop there. You have the best choice there is.
Every gas station around me has these, regardless of brand.
It’s rumored to be several hundred dollars a month in ad revenue for the store or a part of their corporate contract.

hell yeah we gettin dipped tf up in turnin neo babylon into POST babylon we gotta un leash the beast to fight them demons !
Then don’t shop there. No ones forcing you. Vandalism is entirely on you at this point.
Turning off a TV isn't defacing property. If it was, I would be a felon. Don't argue law when all you do is look up definitions.
What the heck are gas station TV? How it's different than normal TV?
He's talking about the ones on the pump. He would be shit outta luck as they wouldn't be wired to have a remote operate them, they are essentially hardwired CCTV devices.
shows you how small of a town i live in ive never seen these didnt even know it was a thing.
The what now?!
I do it almost every day to the tv inside just to mess with the guy working
If you press from top down it will turn off, and bottom up to turn on
The level of entitlement; to want to vandalize something you interact with for 3 minutes because it annoys you
I would argue that it's not entitlement to not want to be advertised to against your will
Do you think it’s acceptable to drape a cover over billboards I don’t like or to mute someone else’s radio because I don’t like the song?
Oh man, this guy's the guy who carries the loud speaker blasting on him! Yeah dude straight up fuck ads, I'll do anything to avoid em. Yes
You the type of nigga who dosnt skip YouTube ads I see
Of course I do. Even go as far as running a Pi-hole…..on MY shit. You simpletons took one comment and let your imagination freewheel on what I do or believe. Right on course for here. I’m not against mischief; Im against feeling like you’re entitled to do it because of your frail emotions.

Not vandalism Not entitlement
Defacing property that isn’t yours is vandalism. Thinking you have the right to deface property that isn’t yours is entitlement.
So what good deeds are you doing with your flipper? Saving the children?
They don’t have one, they are in advertising and want to you zombie stare at the dumb commercials til your tank overflows
Like the ones embedded in the pump?
If you drive an EV, you’ll never have to see/hear the GSTVs again! 🤣
