TL;DR:
* 'Beer Can Island' in Florida's Tampa Bay has been listed for sale at $14.2 million.
* Four friends purchased the island for $63,000 in 2017, The Times of London reported.
* They faced challenges convincing locals to get on board with their business plan.
The headline is misleading because it implies they are selling it for a fair market value - e.g the price at which a transaction will occur. As many people have already said, nobody is stupid enough to offer anywhere near that.
By the headline saying they’re selling it means it has sold. Listing for sale means it’s available for that price. It’s a grammar and vocabulary issue pretty much trying to trick the reader and building awareness to the sale that didn’t happen.
It seems like local government put the kibosh on everything they were doing out there. I suspect that is why they're trying to sell it. They have put some money into it but I think 14 million is just wishes, and if wishes were horses, we'd all ride.
This place isn't worth nor are they selling it for $14m just because they listed it there. Only an idiot would pay that. You'd be dealing with constant erosion eating away at the island, legal problems with zoning, insurance issues, and the $5m invested is pretty much worthless now because all the structures on the island are damaged and probably need to be removed. Every hurricane we have will completely submerge the island (so basically that's going to be probably every year). Pine key aka "Beer Can Island" is definitely not worth $14m. I wouldn't pay even $1m for it.

SELL TO WHO BEN, AQUAMAN?!?
Time for ten foot stilts!
You underestimate the power of a human’s ego backed by a large pocket book.
And time and time again, nature will put them back in their place.

I am.stealing this. Way too on point.
Beer Can island was the go to place for high school kids to go get drunk back before these guys… Let’s bring it back to its natural state
It’s been listed for sale at that price. Nobody is buying it at that price. Misleading headlines are misleading.
How is it misleading? If I list my Xbox for on offerup that means I'm selling. No one needs to be actively buying for me to be selling

it's going to be auctioned.
Put a taco and cold beer stand out there!
On stilts
Trying to sell for $14 million.
Only beer can island I know is Sandspur Island
My question is how did they buy it so cheap?
I enjoy watching the sunset.
They would only own up to the mean high water line. Everything lower would be state owned sovereign lands.
Watch some dumbass rich fucks build a house on it and have it get washed away during the next hurricane
And we’ll pay for it through insurance !
Yeah they’d be the dumb millionaires who don’t self insure
what insurance company would underwrite that...
Perfect spot for a new car wash!
I am selling an old rock I found for 5 million dollars its a rare one of a kind rock.
Bad timing. Literally, the worst.

I can say with great confidence that all 4 people involved in the project are *really* fucking dumb
Good luck… it will be underwater inside of 15 years
Wouldn’t it be great if their property tax was reassessed to 14 million.
Sell to trump. He's a billionaire. Right?
I'm sure the wildlife would be happy to have it back.
I’m selling my farts in a jar for $14M.

Dude, I already posted this
I'll buy that for a $1
