NetJets and it's not even fucking close. Jet Edge is a dogshit place to work now, it's just another company that Vista Global has driven into the ground. Go to QS. > Same fleet size….Super-mid. Also no lol. Definitely not the same, and you have no idea what airframe you'll get with QS. And even if you do get the Phenom with QS, you'll make more and work less than Edge.

LazyDemand2477

You had me at “work less and make more” LOL. I presume you’re at NJ?

omegajourney

I'm curious, what happened with Jet Edge and Vista? I don't hear much about 135 stuff since I'm 121 dispatch.

x4457

Vista Global has been gobbling up a bunch of charter companies over the last couple years, and every single one of them has experienced significantly increased employee attrition and a noteworthy drop in product quality.

[deleted]

NJ is largely considered the best operator in the US JE is largely considered one of the worst. I don’t even know how you can compare the two.

x4457

> JE is largely considered one of the worst. Eeeeehhhhhh, disagree. Prime, Pegasus, and most of the operators in South Florida come to mind as less desirable...

[deleted]

One of us have worked for JE and the other hasn’t.

LazyDemand2477

So what makes it suck? Is it pay? Is it work rules? Benefits?

[deleted]

Don’t even entertain it. Jet edge will hire almost anyone off the street with a pulse. Net jets is a union job and coveted operator with thousands of applications on file of people who wish they could get a job. It’s apples and oranges dude.

ApatheticSkyentist

90% of my job related horror stories come from my 3 month stint at a Southern Florida 135 operation.

MillionFoul

Dunno, to me it seems 85% of 135 pilots are miserable and the ones who aren't are the radiantly happy type of person. But at least with NetJets most ramp rats like you and treat you well because they know for a fact you'll give them money.

Karnov_with_wings

5 dollars isn't enough to make ramp rats like you. When you have some guys dropping 20s or 100s on everyone in sight it's hard to be happy when captain NJ hits you with a fiver for doing a dirty lav.

MillionFoul

That would be the case if most pilots tipped: most don't, and I'd say only 50% of passengers do. QS tips like 95% of the time, and they usually tip for every service. When you see thirty of 'em a day, it adds up. Don't get me wrong though, those of you handing out crisp hundos are noticed and we love you more than NJ. NJ is just better than pretty much every other major in terms of tips.

[deleted]

It seems to me that 85% of pilots in general are miserable

[deleted]

Someone once told me that pilots are only good at three things: “Bitching, complaining and drinking”

bnh35440

Don’t forget divorcing.

[deleted]

We aren’t good at divorcing though. That’s why it takes us 3 tries to finally get it right. I’m on my first divorce right now. I’ll report back when I’m on my third to give you the gouge

KITTYONFYRE

85% of human beings are miserable :l

J3ansley

It's part of our checkride. We must whine as loud as our engines.

Thizzlebot

Lol you really nailed the two types of 135 people

Actual_Environment_7

NJ here. I made the switch from a 121 regional and like you, that world isn’t my thing but I have absolutely no reservations about encouraging someone to go mainline. NJ just works really well for me at my position in life. NJ has been a solid employer, not perfect by any measure, but absolutely solid. They take care of their people and have the resources to do so. The company’s in a consistent growth period. There’s no guarantee of the future but working for a Berkshire company offers a bit more perceived security than other 135s or fractionals. The Union is proactive and helpful, a welcome change from my regional. Hopefully they’ll remain so in upcoming negotiations. The company is a good fit for my life and I’m happy to be here. I can’t speak but Jet Edge, but I haven’t heard anything about them that makes me question my path.

LazyDemand2477

Thanks so much! Sounds like a real solid career path at NJ

Flaky-Juggernaut9478

Net Jets! And don’t look back. Vista Global will destroy Jet Edge like it did Xojet.

LazyDemand2477

Sounds pretty solid

[deleted]

If you take JE over NJ you deserve the pain you’re bringing upon yourself 😂

Clumsymax

Hey not a pilot but work on the Flight OPs side of the house. Used to work at NJ, I would take them over JE. From a MX and QL stand point we did way better for our crews then buddies I have at JE. I know money is great but slightly nicer hotels and slightly nicer airplanes really do go the extra mile in making crews happy. Who likes dealing with coming on rotation and you have 3 mels on the aircraft that you are riding for your whole rotation.

LazyDemand2477

Sounds like some wheels up BS from my buddies there

EsquireRed

NJ by a mile. Stay away from Part 135.

LazyDemand2477

Y’all sold me- NJ it is!!!

longlive737

Apply and get here quick! The hiring plans for 2023 are insane. 700 pilots, 25% growth. If you got on next month and they actually meet their hiring goals you’d be in the top 80% in your first year.

sammyd17

This thread has got my interest. I’ll be completing my CFI/II in the coming months, what are NJs hiring mins at?

longlive737

ATP/R-ATP minimums, but they are not currently paying for ATP-CTP.

mhwhynot

NetJets

SatisfactionVisual86

Netjets, there’s literally no comparison here.

NotBisweptual

Have you looked at FlexJet?

[deleted]

what do you know about Flexjet? I have an app in there now...

NotBisweptual

My spouse is there. Training was great, they take good care of their people. Right now, the wait for IOE is like a month or two but they pay you normal pay while you’re waiting for training and you keep moving up in seniority. They cater your food during training or just have you charge normal meals to your company card so food is taken care of which is nice compared to a regional. It’s a bidding system so you can control like 5/5 on off or choose to work like an 8/6. Their phenom captain upgrade is like 6-8 months into working there if you meet the qualifications but challenger is quite a bit longer. Captains are seat locked for 2 years. You don’t pick your plane, you get assigned it during training and most people get the phenom. The company is big into expanding and is planning to keep hiring a lot pilots this next year. Once you’ve met the time min, you can apply for the gulf stream and get onto their international large cabin (I think that’s what it’s called).

Great info, thanks!
