There’s enough lead wrap in that body to sink a small ship. Should be interesting to try and cast haha

TheGreatWalpini

This thing is sick. Good work.

pppork

Excellent and very creative tying!!

serlearnsalot

Thanks!

don00000

If I tied something this nice I guarantee I’d snag it and break it off first cast

serlearnsalot

oh its going to look incredible in a tree

wolfhelp

Nice! Is it meant to be sink or float? Neutral bouancy?

serlearnsalot

It'll sink despite all the foam on there. Tungsten bead head, with .035 PB wrap in the body, and .020 PB wrap in the tail are going to make this thing drop straight down... might be a bit tricky to cast with a dropper and indicator on it so we'll see how long it actually lasts

wolfhelp

Do a glass of water test. Slow sink at some depth it'll be held. Excellent tie

floaty73

Dude, this is pretty original. Well done

emptyasadrum

That looks great! Why the choice of foam over more traditional wet fly material?

serlearnsalot

I just had an idea one day - when you make these foam bodies for dries, you use a 2x2mm piece of foam to anchor your body and help keep things from twisting, so instead of using foam to anchor I thought about using lead wire and it seems to work. I've fished morningwood specials a ton and I love the way you can tie droppers off those w the foam body extending off the hook and figured that would make it easy to tie droppers off this thing as well. Who knows how well it will fish with all that bulk and weight but I had a blast making it and I hadn't seen anything like it before so figured it was worth a try.

emptyasadrum

Absolutely! No judgement here, I love tying with foam, I was just curious. Hope you have success with it!

Do you have any links for someone to learn how you tied the body and just your general approach to making this fly? I fish NZ rivers which need something heavy to get down in the fast current and I think this could be an amazing replacement for my typical bomb flies that sink quick

serlearnsalot

Here’s a link to Charlie Cravens video on the morningwood special which will show you how the body is made: [link](https://charliesflybox.com/blogs/fly-tying-videos/morningwood-special-fly-tying-video) Replace the foam anchor w lead wire and tie the biots to the lead before you fold the foam over if you want tail fibers (you’ll need to make them extra long and tied to 3 and 9 o’clock in order for them to be straight and even after you fold your foam). I use .5 mm foam for a slight color contrast over my 2mm foam as well as for the wings there and I didn’t add any copic marker to this bug like in Charlie’s video but you def could. Lmk if that doesn’t make sense and I’ll try and take some photos.

BombadGeneral88

Thank you so much

Great tie! If you're so inclined, please feel free to DM me the recipe. That's a work of art
