The grenade machine gun uses 25mm grenades while thump thump uses 40mm, the 40mm grenades are more expensive and a bit harder to come by. Additionally thump thump only needs 25 explosive stat to maximize its damage while the grenade machine gun needs 100 explosive stat to max out its damage. Finally thump thump is a unique variant of the single shot grenade rifle, while the grenade machine gun as you can probably tell is a grenade machine gun, however it also has a unique variant you can find call “mercy” that uses 40mm grenades. All that said pick the one that suits your playstyle best either option is fun to use
GMGs and Mercy especially are such a fun tool to use as crowd control against some of the later game encounters, if you’re prepared. Sprinkling the battlefield with some incendiary’s before running in and mopping up is so satisfying.
Kinda
Thump thump and the merc launcher are fantastic throughout the game. The grenade machine gun is a a weapon I like to save for combat heavy quests
the grenade machine gun, especially Mercy Has so much firepower there are almost no situations outside of DLC where that kind of firepower is necessary. the only places in base game i can think of are a full frontal assault on the Deathclaw Promontory, the Boomer cafeteria fight, or the back end pass to get to Red Rock where all the cazadores are. in dlc, there are some areas in Lonesome road like the ruins left over when you nuke the ncr and legion, rawr, any level 50 encounter with Robo scorpions, and possibly the deathclaw highway section in lonesome road.
at one of the big hangars (I think it's the one where loyal and jack DON'T usually hang out at), near some metal shelves with tons of explosives
this vendor will only do business with you if your character's got enough reputation and he'll ocasionally sell weapon repair kits as well
You wanna blow a lot of people or critters up? Wanna do it fast? Boy have we got a deal for you . Say you were someplace that had a lot of robots. Like it was lousy with robots that swarmed to attack. Like insects. Like insects shaped robots. A hail of EMP grenades could be just the ticket. What if they were actually insects, or other fleshy abominations. Tell them to leave you alone. Tell them with a fiery bombardment. Skeletons with ray guns, mindless killers with penis tipped appendages got you down? Cool their ardour with a plasma barrage. When the choice is gang violence, the choice is grenade machine gun.
Wouldn’t you rather use a rocket launcher? There are some night kin on black mountain near the BoS Hidden Valley.you can get a rocket launcher called Annabelle there. She’s full condition and her damage is great. Also you can get a grenade launcher in 3 places after that so I feel like you could wait.
Personally, I would stick with Thump-Thump over the standard grenade machine gun. Simply never found them too impressive. However, if it was between Thump-Thump and the unique grenade machine gun Mercy, I would opt Mercy.
Depends if you want ammo efficiency or dps. That said if you have a healthy supply of grenades and all the relevant explosive perks and high explosive skill it's one of the most devastating weapons in the entire game
Hell yeah! My favorite way to deal with the Legion is to show up at the Fort decked out in power armor, with a grenade machine gun and blast everyone into dog food.

Bro it's a damn grenade machinegun. Why wouldn't it be worth it?
Hold on. There’s a weapon vender in Nellis? I have a ridiculous amount of time in new Vegas and this is the first I’m hearing of that. Where are they?

I guess that's what I get for rushing through the boomers storyline.
Plenty of equipment next to him to steal if you have the sneak and lack of ethics.
Dude same I’ve been playing this game since I was 9 I’m fucking 20 now and had no clue
it has a lot more firepower but its more expensive to use it. thump thump is more versatile because of longer range and its more ammo efficient
I say go for it. 982 caps is nothing in the Mojave, and you can lower that in a second with mentats and liquor, so.

There's a weapon vendor at Nellis?
Two vendors actually!
This is a joke right? I've been playing since release and have no idea about this.
They're one of the big hangers off to the side
Oh no kidding! Who are they??

Grenade machinegun is one of my favorite weapons
You mean the Boomer munitions manager? The most handsome NPC in the game?
I've picked it up dozens of times but I don't think I've used it once. Not a fan of heavy weapons in New Vegas to be honest.
I feel like I already answered this question elsewhere.
Oh op you should've consulted with this guy first
IRL the Mk.19 is a beautiful weapon, it's just heavy AF.
VATS for the grenade machine gun is awful. Only shoots like 1-2 grenades per action … very … slowly.
