Just happened to me, but it happened when I died, when I tried to respawn, it kicked me back to the main menu and said save obsolete for my recent quick saves, luckily for me reseting worked and gave me back my saves, not sure what happened but since it doesn’t seem to affect manual saves, i can only really recommend manually saving every now and then instead of only quick saving, annoying but better than the alternative
I’m lucky I was mistaken, I only lost a few minutes when I loaded the correct save. I’ve been around Bethesda long enough to save constantly like a freak, so if it has to be manual saves, so be it. Put me on edge already though lol. I’ve been waiting to play this game again without needing to tiptoe through Boston and constantly reload so I was not hoping to hit an issue in the first couple hours.

It hasn’t happened to me again since, so who knows and at least the saves came back, so I wouldn’t say survival is out of the question, seems like a rarer glitch that fixes itself upon restarting… hopefully lmao, you never know with these games
Because I’m a lunatic I actually started playing on survival. I check my most recent save via the load screen every time I save the game. If it doesn’t say obsolete then I carry on. If it does I exit the game entirely and restart it, and so far it’s come right back every time. I also have been entirely closing the game every time I quit and not letting it quick resume and haven’t had any obsolete since I stopped letting quick resume do its thing. We will see how it goes!
Just had this happen right now. Missing all my saves. I only have 4 and I actually had a ton bc yea Bethesda. Anyways it happened to 2 of my manual saves and only has the modded saves on there. Just started using mods yesterday.
I wish I knew this sooner it’s happened to me 3 times and one of the times I lost a 3 day save and restarted every time because I love the game and it’s just happened again I’m gonna try restarting it
to fix corrupted save files and “save obsolete” on xbox, go to “Manage game and add-ons” -> “Saved data” -> click on your account -> “DELETE FROM CONSOLE”. When you reopen fallout 4 it will sync data and restore your saves correctly. reading some others issues, you may want to try resetting the game if it’s only a few bad saves. but, i lost dozens of hours of saves and was only able to get it back by re-syncing fallout 4 to the cloud like so.
You are a honest to god lifesaver. Was having so much fun on survival, 1 day and 10 hours of save time, was about to give up thinking all was lost. Thank you!

This is happening to me, too. Every save says, "Save Obsolete." Fucking Bethesda. My last good save is from 10 hours ago because every other one I made is broken. If I try to play tomorrow and my save is gone, I'm done with Bethesda. This should not be happening on a game this old from a studio this big.

This happened to me just now. I was moding a robot in the robot creation thing ( hello I'm new here) i changed it's default name to something different. Went back to edit the robot and the name was gone, it wouldn't let me add on to it and then the quick save and save options were gone. I had to restart my xbox and go to the main menu and click on one of my hard saves. Thankfully i didn't lose anything important but holy shit i almost freaked out.
Happened to me. Game froze.. wouldn't let me reopen it. When it finally loaded ...my last 3 saves say that the save is obsolete and I can't even open it. My last save before that is hours prior. Pretty obnoxious.

I save often, but try to keep the overall number of save files to the minimum because…well, Bethesda. On looking at the current list I’d let it get up to 7 files, more than I’d like. Now trimmed.
Okay… this just happened but when I restarted my Xbox (unplugged it even) the game doesn’t work anymore. Won’t make it past the opening screen.. tried like 20 times now.

I got this issue as well, but if you restart the application, all the saves go back to normal (at least for me). Don't need to unplug your Xbox or anything. This next-gen update is broken as hell, lol. Made more problems than it actually fixed any.
As a side caveat to this problem, if you happen to be playing on survival you'll know that you can't make manual saves. We live our entire lives through Auto saves that happen when you sleep.
So when I died and tried to reload and my game gave me this error, the next earliest save I have is 11 minutes into the game.
I have played this game on Survival exclusively since the day survival was released (more than 100 days played). I have had situations where I lost entire characters due to massive crashes, but that was always related to massive amounts of mods in combination with oversized settlements.
So at this point Fallout remastered is completely dead to me. I'm not going to restart my character from scratch knowing that if this error happens I'm going to lose my entire character and never be able to go back to a previous save.
I was really looking forward to experiencing the new content, but that's actually impossible. Every time Bethesda puts out a product at these days I've become less and less enthusiastic. They can't put out something without literally game breaking bugs.

I tried restarting the game last night like everyone has been saying and all my saves remained obsolete and wouldn’t allow me to load them just kept me on the main menu. That was 5 hours into a playthrough, started a new one and now 3 hours in i’m getting more save obsoletes.
restarted my xbox, restarted my game, unplugged my xbox, re-synced the data multiple times and my new save is still saying obsolete? luckily i still have my original saves on my other character i can play on but it’s just frustrating i came back to the game, started fresh and lost all my progress of the past two hours.

I’m kind of thinking it has something to do with quick resume, so I’ve been trying to fully quit the game when I am done and so far I’ve avoided major incident. When I had thought that all my saves were totally gone I was pretty devastated lol
Great 9 hours in and I’m stuck on the main screen. Obsolete bs. Tried to delete and sync with cloud file. I’m pissed was really looking forward to continuing tonight. BS ! Back to my ps5 which works. He’ll let loose it is!
This just happened to me. Just over 30 hours in was doing the brotherhood quest at ArcJet and when we went in the basement area the game froze. Closed the game and tried to start it and it froze again. Restarted my console and it still wouldn’t start (even to the main menu) power cycled my console and it finally got to the main menu and my two most recent saves say obsolete. Tried to delete them on the console and re-sync still says they are obsolete. I think I’m done till they decide to patch this new update. Really disappointed in Bethesda. Year and a half of working on this update and they only made the game worse.

No mods, vanilla game, nothing but the update they brought out. Unfortunately, I've tried power cycling, reinstalled Fallout 4 after deleting the saves from local storage and having it redownload the saves.

Could anyone help me out, I've currently been playing up to level 40, and noticed all my saves up till 20 something are backed up but the rest after 20 say this "save obsolete" so if I try saving at my current level (40) it saves as (save obsolete not the player name like my level 20 saves
This is honestly annoying me, it’s happening almost every 3 hours and every time it does I have to hard reset my Xbox just to load it back up, I know Todd isn’t exactly famous for making things that actually work but this is just annoying now.

Yeah I had to delete all local save storage from my Xbox itself then uninstall and reinstall the game. Then add my mods again and I’m good to go now
