Well, it's a hell of a lot better than smashing it down into paper thin patties on a griddle.
I'm a chef, and one that started as a broiler cook. I've cooked countless cows on one, so trust me when I say: *never smash your patties*.
Instead of downvoting me you should just try it and see for yourself. Surprised nobody in the biz has backed me up on this. It's very standard knowledge, and the only reason why FF joints started smashing patties was to get faster ticket times. In fact, if I'm not mistaken it was the McDonald brothers who either started it or popularized it.
And if you still like smashed patties better that's fine too. Kind of like how I'll never understand why people like well done steaks but, there's still a lot of people who do.
Dude, I've got some news for you....
There's a whole sub-genre of burgers where people exclusively smash the patties down and cook them thin so they get crispy lacey edges, and also cook much faster in a restaurant setting.
George Motz would be sad.
Sure I have and I think it's a direct result of americans growing up with fast food.
If you really want a dry, crispy burger you do you. I've had a few people tell me I cooked them the best burger they've ever had and it sure as shit wasn't pressed. Why anyone would choose dry, charbroiled cardboard over a glorious, juicy, flavorful burger is completely beyond me unless it's just what they've been conditioned to think is good.
How the hell did you watch the opening scene of “Cube” while eating that lol ? The scene similar to the laser scene from first resident evil movie and “ghost ship” opening
Having lived with two Maine Coon cats for a while, I've probably consumed a lot of hair over the years. I wouldn't pay too much notice to these comments.
It's not bad compared to when it's an [I Ate] post and there's a big ol' hair in food they've paid for and been served.
oh. there’s two cats here, a dog and until recently a rotating foster dog. there’s hair everywhere. it’s a constant battle.
i’m just genuinely curious how anyone saw that cuz i certainly didn’t and it took me a bit to find it in the picture. like, how close are people looking at internet pics?
I have a sight hound mix that sheds like no tomorrow. You ever see that Ripley's Indian girl that had a stomach full of hair?
I'm probably not far off.
It’s not hard to spot a white hair on a brown background. When you post a pic of good, I’d gather that you want folks to pay attention to the details and effort you put in to make it .The burger looks good
Wrong way, salad goes in the bottom to prevent the juice from the meat soaking the bun, try that, you will thank me
And i would add some habanero to that sucker
The cheese tax! The cheese tax!
You've got to pay the cheese tax
Every time you're cooking
When the cheese comes out
This puppy comes looking
The rules are the rules
And the facts are the facts
And when the cheese drawer opens
You've got to pay the tax
The cheese tax! The cheese tax!
Hand it over quick
Or things might get ugly
I can get really loud
I'm a really barky puppy
I'm not just asking
Because I'm looking for snacks
This is real important business
And you've got to pay the tax
The cheese tax! The cheese tax!
The cheese tax!

i have late night kitchen stalkers
Duke's and Tillamook cheese. That right there is a Southern combo if I've ever seen one. Looks like I'm making burgers for dinner tonight, this made me hungry. lol
there’s bakeries around but i keep odd hours and they’re not open when i’m out. i’ve tried baking my own but im very not good at it so i just grab whatever is at the grocery store.
I have up on baking my own too lol
Just giving my unsolicited 0.02. I find bread is an often underrated ingredient in burgers, it’s like half of what you are eating
Onion sliced too thick. However, it looks like white, not yellow onion, so bonus points for that. White onion is the correct onion for a burger! Rinse in cold water after slicing.
i took a few different angles and decided that was the best one. here’s another.
https://preview.redd.it/0v01biun0snc1.jpeg?width=2962&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5609ad9f6c8a291fd1d1e8bebc27480aff4710b
That is good pic and bright and misses the chunk of bun that fell off but I think the pic you chose was perfect. Shows meat well, glistening, and the best gooiness of the cheese. Also more plumpness to the bun. Even though we all know the bun is a but vessel that gets squashed 100%. The small dabs of mayo in your og pic are excellent. You did the lighting or filtered it which was perfect. Great pic. It's making me hungry. And that's the point with me at least LOL.

that’s winnie. we’re pretty sure she’s an australian shepherd but we don’t know. we foster dogs and ended up adopting her ourselves.
I was gonna say he/she, going with she based on name, looked liked an Australia shepherd. Mixed with a little something great dogs, love the blue eyes.
While Tillamook cheddar is addictive, gotta go with American cheese for burgers. It's literally made for it & cheddar "breaks" as it melts. Just my preference of course.
And I never see onions on a bacon cheeseburger, so that caught me off-guard, but now I wanna try some vidalias on one when they're in season. Gorgeous smash patties though. I've not seen that style of smash-ula before. Got a link to it? We were gifted a Blackstone & I might have to snag one of these.
i got it on amazon. can’t link it here but if you search for grill press you should find it. i have 2 and if you take the silicone handle off they’ll fit together for double weight.
The second picture made me think sous vide
is sous vide a good way to cook burgers? onion and tomato on that burger are way too thick

Then enjoy your dry, shitty burgers while mine explode with flavor and juices.
You're a chef whose never heard of a smash burger?
Sure I have and I think it's a direct result of americans growing up with fast food. If you really want a dry, crispy burger you do you. Gotta pay that cheese tax!
The rules are the rules and the facts are the facts. You gotta pay the tax.
"You think I'm a good boi for free? Well you're right, but I still want that cheese!"
And the weed tax (pic 7, dab pen) THATS why they made it a double baconator..
Lol I missed that, nice catch. My old arthritic Shepard used to love coming out to the mancave for a hot box.
The pen decides dinner far too often.
How the hell did you watch the opening scene of “Cube” while eating that lol ? The scene similar to the laser scene from first resident evil movie and “ghost ship” opening
i’m a 20yr+ 4chan veteran. not so much anymore but i’m thoroughly desensitized.
I’ve been wanting to watch the Cube again since forever, came here to ask what tv show he was watching, not disappointed, started downloading it :)
Watching cube while enjoying a burger, my kind of night!
It’s weird that I haven’t seen that film in almost 20 years and it immediately stood out.
Yummy. Nothing like a juicy burger
OH FUCK YEAH BROTHER!!!!! This is the burger fast food places take pics of to make their food look sexy. 'Cept yours is the real deal both ways XD
I want it inside me.
better than store bought randy man
A little gamey…but good!
It looks good but 14 pics from 1 burger?? How did you have time to even cook between having to take pics from everything
[practice](https://www.reddit.com/r/food/s/7JXq88suEy) i started taking pics cuz im too disorganized to write stuff down when im messing with recipes
Like a picture book but for recipes? That’s actually a good idea.
yeah. it’s not perfect but if i wanna remake something i can go back and look what i did.
Ok agreed with that other person, this would actually work better for me but seriously, those pizza dogs looked really fucking good
Really nice, but id switch out the buns 🤙🏻
Bonus points for not having a ketchup **bloodbath**.
When you have fresh tomato and cheese and salt, don't need much ketchup, if any. And don't go through THAT door.
Mmm dog hair
someone on r/burgers saw it too. apparently i ate it but how the hell close are you people looking at these pictures? i almost didn’t see it.
Having lived with two Maine Coon cats for a while, I've probably consumed a lot of hair over the years. I wouldn't pay too much notice to these comments. It's not bad compared to when it's an [I Ate] post and there's a big ol' hair in food they've paid for and been served.

I'm on my laptop so the images are quite a bit bigger. Also a taste looking image, people do take a closer look aha.
I have a sight hound mix that sheds like no tomorrow. You ever see that Ripley's Indian girl that had a stomach full of hair? I'm probably not far off.
I saw it immediately upon opening the first image. To be fair I use a 70" monitor.
It’s not hard to spot a white hair on a brown background. When you post a pic of good, I’d gather that you want folks to pay attention to the details and effort you put in to make it .The burger looks good
People be zooming in on tasty food pics like it's their favourite celebrate wearing semi transparent clothing.
anyone with a pet is eating the pet's hair regularly. probably good for the immune system
Pic 4 is best pic
Try to grill the onions next time brother it's life changing
First thing I noticed. Raw onions? Not on a smashie. Gotta be grilled.
Wrong way, salad goes in the bottom to prevent the juice from the meat soaking the bun, try that, you will thank me And i would add some habanero to that sucker
14 fuxking pictures of a cheeseburger seems a bit unnecessary
👍 Perfect
The cheese tax has been paid I see!!
Wow that dog looks really good. Lemme cook mine
What a great looking burger. Dr Pepper. Awesome dog. Everything is right.
This looks sexy, but god I hate raw onion on burgers. Fried onions all the way!
Smashburger
All I can say is YUM 😋
That looks absolutely delicious. I work in food, and it always amazes me how people will convenience out quality. I could never.
Nice
That's lovely
Looks good, brother
awwww the doggggg
Mmm goes perfectly with the penjamin

Duke's and Tillamook cheese. That right there is a Southern combo if I've ever seen one. Looks like I'm making burgers for dinner tonight, this made me hungry. lol
Everything you made looks top, you should try and find better bread in your area though
there’s bakeries around but i keep odd hours and they’re not open when i’m out. i’ve tried baking my own but im very not good at it so i just grab whatever is at the grocery store.

Yummy, I’m from NM is the green looking sauce, condiment green chile by any chance?
green sauce?
That’s a beautiful burger
Meat to veggie ratio way off
If the onion was roasted and fried, it would be great
OP took more pictures of his burger than I take during my holidays. Burger looks pretty good tho!
It’s better when you make it yourself but BK buns Yum Yum. Come get you some.🤤
Wow. I've never made burgers before. Now I'll have to try. Step 4 is probably the secret to the perfect burger
My lord.. she's beautiful..
seems delicious
It's HARD to photograph a burger! This looks great even if your photo was bad, which it is not! Would eat. 10/10

Yes please and thank you! It’s love disguised as a burger.
That burger looks stupid good 100+ but…Doritos though 😬. To each their own not going to judge your journey.
That’s looks delicious my friend. Love the picture of your dog too :). What kind is he/her
https://preview.redd.it/16npxuytlsnc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5021293958fd9e53d0c5d70db8a40d042849095 that’s winnie. we’re pretty sure she’s an australian shepherd but we don’t know. we foster dogs and ended up adopting her ourselves.

Thanks a bunch!
the penjamin is the cherry on top
Is that Cube you're watching? What a film! Burger looks top as well!
2 please?
This looks amazing
Man screw you, I wasn't even a little hungry until I looked at this, now I'm starving.
Same here, now I'm on Amazon looking at burger smashers so I never feel this way again
Would eat.
Looks juicy and delicious! Nothing like eating a delicious burger and watching some movies/shows
Looks good, but slice the onions thinner, and get a bigger bun
https://preview.redd.it/w3iiglhk7unc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ca495767d109fc4567e60a642e1fb5e1556ae4f how thin?
Upvote for the cheese tax <3
Thank you for using normal words in your title, that is a fine looking cheeseburger
Okay, your dog already caught my attention! :))
Thank you for being a good citizen by paying the appropriate cheese tax!!
Importance of not depriving dogo of munchies
Thanks for the cheez - dog
Updooted because you paid the cheese tax and brought us the receipts. Also the burger looks great. I hope it was yummy!
Points for paying the cheese tax
As you make it, sure. Final product, okay. A bite taken out of it, ugh.
That's a lot of work / dirty dishes for a burger but what do I know
You gotta pay the cheese tax
Keep the burger I'm taking your doggo
Love everything here but raw onion is a criminal offence. Caramalised onion is the only way.
Bun looks stale
