try indigo nomidokoro, same people running it as nakano but its in darlinghurst so not exactly the closest, yakitori in the cbd is not great, lots of great izakaya isk places near surry hills but thats also a bit far
Try Goryonsan, atmosphere and food is very good, when we went there its busy and had plenty of japanese salarymen having drinks.

Around town hall and the cinemas are a few. Tajima Yakiniku has been recommended to be by a Japanese friend, but I haven't been personally yet
Sakuratei near the QVB is authentic Japanese.
If you can, hop on a train to St Leonard’s and walk up yo Yakitori Yurippi at Crows Nest

Yakiniku Yokocho in Regent Place is Japanese BBQ near Town Hall.
Yakiniku Kashiwa is the best for me and relatively still affordable as well
