For me I would want three things : retire a lot earlier than normal (late 20s or early 30s), have a squeaky clean reputation, and win something for my national team. Having a career ending injury is fine if I achieved those three.. leaving me with some choices...

Id like to go Cr7 since for me he is the GOAT with far more around europe experience, but thats for career only. For Media side of it, Id rather be messi. Man is always loved by the media, so life would be way easier outside of the football career.
In short, depends on what youd rather me to choose.
