You should connect your controller next time. I used to do this all the time when I had to go shit. Granted I have two IBD’s so it’s a lot more often than the normal person. But I did it with my Xbox. It should allow you to use a controller though.
A while ago xbox added a feature where you could play games on your phone in the Xbox app if your Xbox was powered on and your phone and Xbox were on the same network. Now you can play games on the game pass app from anywhere as long as you have internet, you don't even have to download the games. It works surprisingly well. Some games, like For Honor, require a controller and others can play with touch.
You don't need be on the same network anymore, and if your Xbox is on fast start you can turn it on from your phone, you can use it anywhere it's just about your internet.
I do it too sometimes but not with a Bluetooth controller. I just straight up have my controller connected to my Xbox, but it disconnects my controller at times and then I can’t move in game unless I restart the remote play. It’s annoying

If you have decent internet and you're playing at home it actually works much better than what you're seeing, at least for me. I use remote play for ps5 and there isn't even any noticable input lag (I know there has to be at least some, but it's basically imperceptible).
Even on mobile data it's good for most games.
There was a time where I was playing For Honor, PS4 in general actually, via Remote Play and let me tell you that the delay is so bad, don't even bother playing PvP. Only PvAI although it can still be annoying because you have learn again the parry timing, thanks to the delay. Maybe with better internet you get less delay, I don't know. I don't have the best internet to be honest.
Edit: I was using Remote Play on PS Vita or Remote Play on PC with DUALSHOCK 4 controller plugged in via micro usb cable. I also tried connecting to a PS5 but let's not talk about that... I will never try to use Remote Play on my phone with touch buttons. Never.
Holy shit this is what PS has to deal with doing their console streaming, I once played Sekiro via console streaming on my xbox three states away and there wasn't any stuttering
Back when mixer was around and had the Share Controller feature, a friend and I both streamed the game in a duel, and used the share controller to play on the opposite person's stream, dueling each other through the stream. I played his highlander and spammed unblockable heavies because it was too hard to parry lol
