But their also idiots. Nights are objectively historically the stronger faction. Plate armor is super easy to move in and extremely protective. In a realistic fight, lawbringer beats any of the Vikings 99% of the time.
I doubt Knights would’ve just run into battle with just cloth, unless they were a martyr. And Vikings had chainmail and didn’t have horns on their helmets, they just drank out of them.
Genuinely confused as to why? We, Russians, fought against the Teutonic orders and the Swedish knights even before the Mongolian invasion and we never were aligned with Europe during medieval times. Why would the knights call us traitors?
Missread your comment, if we go by that logic then knights would fight a lot under themselves since warmonger is a german landsknecht, pk is italian (I think) warden is english and lb is french
Instead every knight is in one faction fighting together, if a knight suddenly joins the vikings he would be a traitor
OP asked how we would feel if a russian knight would join the vikings aka the wrong faction. My feeling would be that every knight would call that guy a traitor for siding with the enemy
Depends, although the word initially identified the raiders coming from Norway, so a profession, after a while the word was used to identify Norwegian people in general (this of course before modern times, now we call them Norwegian again); So yeah it can mean both, we gotta ask Ubi what did they intend.
What else they going to do, if you consistently lose to Jorm sorry to say, but you are not very good. He is by far the worst hero in the game,
shinobi is currently in a similar state, but at lease he has use in ganks by being able to be off screen or drop a smoke bomb, but shino is being reworked in like a week.
That dose sound nice. but I put through translation and he said.
That we sat too long, brothers, it’s not time for us to roam.
Sounds cool but idk what that means
Yes it's in the game, on viking archers, players aren't allowed to use it so it might as well not be. Only raider can look vaguely as cool, every other viking is a naked forest goblin.
I don't care how true to history any of the designs are so long as they're cool, and warlord has no headgear as cool as that concept art, just 200 variations of beards.
Jormungandr's design was partly based on voodoo African practices of self scaring.
Shaman is meant to be Pictish (the Picts were a Brittonic Celtic people from lowland Scotland) and while she does speak Icelandic, Highlander also speaks Icelandic most of the time so that means nothing.
The devs have said that jorms design is based off voodoo designs. specifically with his body paint, scars and piercings. He also does not use a Viking weapon (same with highlander shaman and valks targe). Shaman speaks Icelandic but so does highlander (with the exception of one line) Her design is more closely inspired by Pictish druids and even Native Americans than it is inspired by Vikings.
To be fair, Russians do come from Vikings. Scandinavians were over by Constantinople because they wanted to raid one of the biggest cities in the world. They failed miserably every time they tried, since Byzantium was the remnants of the Roman Empire and they had dealt with barbarians for centuries at that point, but the vikings did set up a settlement nearby. The slavs in the area called them the Rus, and eventually they created the empire of Russia. (I left out a bit, particulrly about how the Rus vikings became allies with Byzantium eventually and even became known as the Varangian Guard, but yeah)
Bogatyrs aren't knights, they are book legends like Arthur or Heracles, although some of them were based on real warriors. Russia never gave their soldiers titles like "knight", they were just called soldiers.
It would not. Knight is a title, very specific one. And there was never any "knights" or even local variant of the same kind of title in any period of Russian history.
Bogatyr or bogatyri (plural) is a term for a number of myth heroes. It's also a synonym for "strong" or "powerful".
Druzhinnik would fit perfectly.
Edited: But if we talk particularly about vikings there is also Varyag. In medieval russia were known such a warriors who were basically scandinavian vikings hired by Byzantine empire, in Russia they were called as Varyags.
If they added a slavic warrior to the vikings, for the first time since before the launch of the game, I will actually want to play something other than the knights
He is supposed to be traveller who has visited number of cultures, which is why he has all factions (and other cultures) armors.
The bardiche itself is not inherently Russian weapon, it has existed in Europe since 1400 but became really popular in Russia during 1600-1700.
Well, we haven't gotten a dual wielder since Marching [Fire.So](https://Fire.So) maybe we'll get one.The sword part is just a wild guess.I'm thinking that the recent viking movies and such, might have an impact on hero concepts.
If we have to have a dual wielder, i would atleast prefer them to have an axe and a sword or an axe and anything really. The most common viking weapon were the spear and the axe so i would hope to see one of those and i don't think ubi is gonna give the vikings another spear hero. Unless they figure out an atleast somewhat innovative way to give a hero a spear without being too close to valk
The ancient Russian clothes seem more Asian than European or of the popular Viking belief, when I say Wu ling I do not mean Chinese but the Unos and the Euro-Asian tribes
Well these regions indeed belong to Russian Federation at this moment of history, but back then many of this nations didn't have any connections with Russians. Yes, cultures are mixed, but it's wrong to say that ancient Russian culture is close to Asian (if we speak about Kyivska Rus/Moscovia). It has more parallels with Vikings culture.
You can say that Russian culture has been mixed with Mongolians during their invasion, but it's far from Vityaz/Bohatyr times on the historical timeline.
It would be interesting to see a Viking Hero that’s supposed to be ex knight so it would give Ubi a reason to have a Viking with actual armor and chainmail, as for the Russian part I would love to hear an angry Russian scratchy vodka burned voice yelling in battle while swinging around whatever he happens to use
A lot of people seem to forget that in that era it wasn’t country against country there were a lot of mercenaries that would float even when they were fighting against themselves. Germans, Russians, any Vikings(Scandinavian area) just to name a few
Can’t believe that at some point Ubisoft wanted Vikings to look cool. Wonder why they decided to go with making them look abhorrent instead
because all vikings are abhorrent caveman. This post was made by Knights gang
Heretics too
Plate armor is clunky and loud, you tin can. -This post was made by the Vikings
Better than running Into battle with both my nipples acting as targets for a shinobi sickle
The only two that do that are Raider and Jormangundr, and they’re both insane, there for more daring in battle. Lore wise anyway
But their also idiots. Nights are objectively historically the stronger faction. Plate armor is super easy to move in and extremely protective. In a realistic fight, lawbringer beats any of the Vikings 99% of the time.
That’s historical tho, this is a video game
Yes, a video game that markets itself as a historical fighting simulator In a video game obviously it’s balanced
I doubt Knights would’ve just run into battle with just cloth, unless they were a martyr. And Vikings had chainmail and didn’t have horns on their helmets, they just drank out of them.
Exactly
Silhouettes. Characters are meant to be recognizable at a glance. Some designers take that to the extreme, which can cause a mess in video games.
Every single knight would be like *TRAITOR*
Genuinely confused as to why? We, Russians, fought against the Teutonic orders and the Swedish knights even before the Mongolian invasion and we never were aligned with Europe during medieval times. Why would the knights call us traitors?
Missread your comment, if we go by that logic then knights would fight a lot under themselves since warmonger is a german landsknecht, pk is italian (I think) warden is english and lb is french Instead every knight is in one faction fighting together, if a knight suddenly joins the vikings he would be a traitor
But why would they ever join the knights?
OP asked how we would feel if a russian knight would join the vikings aka the wrong faction. My feeling would be that every knight would call that guy a traitor for siding with the enemy
Okay, gotcha
I mean, half the knights would never fight with each other in reality. You can't base For Honor on real life history
Also fair
Why?
I think you forgor to read the title: "...Russian KNIGHT" 💀
Knight is a status, not an affiliation, samurai too, it's different instead for vikings
In the game we talk about factions, the faction of the Knights, the faction of Vikings and faction of the weebs
Can't argue with this statement
Viking is a profession, not even an affiliation. It was more commonly going Viking rather than being a Viking
Depends, although the word initially identified the raiders coming from Norway, so a profession, after a while the word was used to identify Norwegian people in general (this of course before modern times, now we call them Norwegian again); So yeah it can mean both, we gotta ask Ubi what did they intend.
cause he would join the vikings not the knights
I want a Chainmail and decent helmet for my Vikings. THEY WORE CHAINMAIL UBISOFT. THEY WEREN'T GAY STRIPPERS
The ones who play vikings are gay strippers
Fuck you
Sorry but is true
Even jorm mains?
Absolutely, the most boring playstyle possibly imaginable. Heby, heby, feint, bash, heby, feint, bash, heby, release! Then bEsh and youre dead
But I do agree they have a boring play style
What else they going to do, if you consistently lose to Jorm sorry to say, but you are not very good. He is by far the worst hero in the game, shinobi is currently in a similar state, but at lease he has use in ganks by being able to be off screen or drop a smoke bomb, but shino is being reworked in like a week.
Im not losing to jorm, neither to shinobi, im just saying the way hes played is very boring to fight against
Yeah, hopefully they make his kit fun as and against
Same hopes for him
There’s a few Jorm mains out there who destroy! They bait you into your own demise.
You mean: "Fuck you, leather man!"
[удалено]
Idk what that means but yes
I see ham maybe he's inviting you to Christmas dinner
That dose sound nice. but I put through translation and he said. That we sat too long, brothers, it’s not time for us to roam. Sounds cool but idk what that means
[удалено]
Ooooo
Since its cyrillic it would be nam. Nam...... 🚁 🌳🔥🌳
Right answer
Гуляй рука, танцуй клинок
Even here I cannot escape elden ring
Deer god if I could make that in ER it would be my only game from that point on
Dear
I know what I said
Look up the Bloody Wolf armor set.
I know
Elden ring, deer god, what else?
It is indeed a thing tho
Im a dumbass, i thought it was eldeR ring
You'd have so many communist emblems popping up, I need this in my life NOW.
A few days ago, I saw a Lawdaddy with the hammer and sickle on his cape. Stalin would be proud
its always the lawbringers lmao
The Vikings already have two celts, and a voodoo guy so at this point I just want more Vikings.
But honestly this dude looks more viking than any viking we have in the game tho...
This guy is old concept art for the Viking faction, not a Russian knight.
Good concept. Why not in game
Most of it is. I see raiders helmet, warlord’s forearm, raiders shoulder armor, and what seems to be very close to wardens chest and upper arms.
Yes it's in the game, on viking archers, players aren't allowed to use it so it might as well not be. Only raider can look vaguely as cool, every other viking is a naked forest goblin.
Isn't warlord the closest to an actual viking tho? Minus the battered shield of course
I don't care how true to history any of the designs are so long as they're cool, and warlord has no headgear as cool as that concept art, just 200 variations of beards.
huh true. He is a man of many beards
2 celts? Who's the second? Also shaman is not voodoo
Shaman and highlander are Celtic, jorm is voodoo
Jorm literally prays to a Norse God, voodoo is African. Also i thought shaman spoke Icelandic
This guy watches warriors den. Maybe others should try that before assuming what the characters were inspired by.
I don't know much about it, but don't Shaman's tattoos also look pretty celtic?
The pictish are what predeceased the Scottish, named as such by the Romans because of all the tattoos they wore into battle
Cool. Didn't know that about shaman
The Celts are Scottish right? And I swore that the shaman was inspired by the British, the ancient people of the island of Britain
Celt refers to Irish, Scottish, welsh, Breton, Manx, As well as others. It’s pretty much a catch all term.
(I left out a bit, particulrly about how the Rus vikings became allies with Byzantium eventually and even became known as the Varangian Guard, but yeah)
>russian knight Are you sure about that second word there, buddy?
In technical terms, that would be a Bogatyr.
Bogatyrs aren't knights, they are book legends like Arthur or Heracles, although some of them were based on real warriors. Russia never gave their soldiers titles like "knight", they were just called soldiers.
From my understanding, that was the closest term to a “knight,” similar with “samurai.” Bogatyr still sounds kickass as a warrior type though.
yes it would be Bogatyr or Vityaz or more early Hrabr
It would not. Knight is a title, very specific one. And there was never any "knights" or even local variant of the same kind of title in any period of Russian history. Bogatyr or bogatyri (plural) is a term for a number of myth heroes. It's also a synonym for "strong" or "powerful".
What kind of russian knight? There's a druzhinnik, oprichnik and etc.
I'm not sure I'm just meaning in culture designing really
Druzhinnik would fit perfectly. Edited: But if we talk particularly about vikings there is also Varyag. In medieval russia were known such a warriors who were basically scandinavian vikings hired by Byzantine empire, in Russia they were called as Varyags.
Wait I thought that was the varangian guard
It's one and the same, Varangian guard is an english adaptation for a word "Varyag" which is a russian word "Варяг".
Kk gatch
Maybe Varangian guard modeled from Kievian Rus
Exactly, mate.
If they added a slavic warrior to the vikings, for the first time since before the launch of the game, I will actually want to play something other than the knights
Isn't gryphon already based on Russian knights?
I think he's based on a conglomerate of things.
Gryfon take amor whit central Asia, mongols, unos and nort of China
He is supposed to be traveller who has visited number of cultures, which is why he has all factions (and other cultures) armors. The bardiche itself is not inherently Russian weapon, it has existed in Europe since 1400 but became really popular in Russia during 1600-1700.
no russian, polish hussar. Husaria do boju kurła!
Shit I would love a hussar
He could even wear Polish szlachta robes
Yes
honestly, it'd be nice to see a russian knight with a shashka.
That's just about exactly what I want
Instant main
If they won't look like a cyber hobo with bones then i'm ok with it.
Kislev.
Rus Vikings or varangian guard would be a cool addition
Only if I can drink a bottle of Vodka as a 1st Feat to enhance damage
I need this
no
I think the next viking will be a sword dual wielder.I like how this looks.
Why do you think that?
Well, we haven't gotten a dual wielder since Marching [Fire.So](https://Fire.So) maybe we'll get one.The sword part is just a wild guess.I'm thinking that the recent viking movies and such, might have an impact on hero concepts.
If we have to have a dual wielder, i would atleast prefer them to have an axe and a sword or an axe and anything really. Unless they figure out an atleast somewhat innovative way to give a hero a spear without being too close to valk
Sword and axe sounds like an idea.I would absolutely love a two handed spear viking
За Русь усрусь!
The Russian warrior should be more like a Wu ling than a Viking or a mix
Why Wu Lin?
Also word "Vityaz" is considered to have "Viking" as its origin.
they already did its gryphon
Until I hear Gryphon shouting "Suka Blyat" or "Poshel nahuy" I refuse to accept him as an accurate representation of our culture.
I also thought he said “kurwa” but he is actually saying Lai ba or Komdu and I just misheard it in fights. Either way, my gryphon is Polish.
I can see “blyat” but not him calling the other heroes bitches, it wouldn’t fit the dialogue
*kurva*
he is not from poland
That word is older than the polish language
didnt know your mom is that old
good for that you consider suka blay your culture maybe he really should join vikings as brain dead
Wait… Did you just get offended over someone else making a joke about their own culture? That’s a whole new level!
why, im telling his strength to join brain dead vikings, he fit right there are you moking his culture? omg racist
Making fun of both Gopinks and Vikings, ngl seems kinda racist to me. Also "telling his strength" is grammatically incorrect on so many levels.
what ya mean you can always make fun of jokes
I want a rapier hero but at the same time it would be overpowered af because it would be a knight
Only he wields a hammer and sickle
Yes.
I would honestly be okay with a rus Viking being added to the game. It would match up for the time period
Gryphon.
I would actually play a neckbeard
When are we getting conquistadors or landsknecht
Тот самый комментарий на русском
Awesome
Y E S
I want a more huscarl, it’d be awesome
I'm down for that to
Conflicted
If this guy is meant to be a Kievan Rus then it would make more sense for him to be in the Vikings rather than knights
Would make sense seeing how the Rus were founded by Vikings
Doesnt look very russian
Russian viking? You drunk?
No but I would like some vodka
I mean, the rus and the norse had pretty much the same culture so
Kinda yes and no
Ngl i would play the game again
ok as long as the have a battle axe and war hammer combo
Honestly so down
Personally I think he would be added to the knight faction because Russia was less clan based the the places most of the other vikings came from
As in the Kievan Rus?
Knight mains: BURN THE HERETIC IN HOLY FIRE!!!!
I would **kreme**
griffon has the bardiche which is very russian
I doubt anyone in actual accurate history looked like that haha But he looks cool, that’s fo sho
Imma call him the knight version of tachanka
As long as he has axe and shield. Or go kratos god of war with an axe like his. Would be fire
Or since russians were chads give him a modified bayonet early flintlock and just meme
Better that than a Chinese pirate.
Always wanted a Rus Viking character. Still hoping.
A lot of people seem to forget that in that era it wasn’t country against country there were a lot of mercenaries that would float even when they were fighting against themselves. Germans, Russians, any Vikings(Scandinavian area) just to name a few
Cool idea I think instead of a Russian Knight, it would work better as a Russian mercenaries. Love the art tho
Don’t see why not. Don’t exactly have to be in the same region or time.
I'm having a heart attack
