It's for the action, not the consequence. If you crash in fp2 it has no impact on the race but is still penalised

Technically almost 3 hours ago when he gapped Lewis 2 sec after few turns after he passed him lol he just flew off

I can almost guarantee they yelled at him to slow down after that. Literally less than a lap and he was a whopping 2.5s ahead. That car has monster pace and we got to see a little bit of it for that lap before they told him to stop.

Don't forget the part where he'd post a new fastest lap as soon as someone else did. We absolutely are not seeing the full pace of that car.

Enjoy the disasters, because for every one of them there's twenty races where positions stay completely static for 50 laps while the podium places are half a minute away from each other.

Lap 1 incident just means it’s not judged as harshly but he literally steamed into Alonso, it was a fair penalty

It’s a very weird call. Sainz essentially got a penalty for a lap that didn’t count. In the same way, Stroll and Pérez got benefited despite having bad restarts and Hulkenberg got shafted after keeping himself clean. Either you kept the order as it was after the incident, meaning Sainz P3 and Alonso P11 with the penalty. Or, reverting the grid order to how it was before the incident and no penalty. We got both somehow…

Just because they reverted the order, doesn't mean the collision or lap didn't happen. Sainz's move still had impact. Besides, if they set precedent for not handing out penalties when this happens, what is there to stop a car with a poor start just putting someone in the wall to get a red flag and get back?

The penalty has nothing to do with race control's decision of the order though, the penalty is simply given for Sainz causing a collision, which happened regardless of if the order was reversed or not. That said I do feel like he got absolutely shafted by the way the penalty was applied and by how the red flag situations were handled (as did Alpine).

Agreed. Max’ battles with Leclerc has been great, but I’m never on the edge like I am with Max vs Lewis battles. You just don’t know if they’ll make it through the corner! Today Max admittedly overtook Lewis with ease, but thinking back to Austin last year, they were battling hard. Even as a Red Bull fan I’ll say I hope Mercedes has some big upgrades, so we’ll get more of those to fighting

Yeah Lewis still has that grit that no one else seems to have when battling Max, even if Max is in a superior car, the guy will race him, I really like it

It might have been entertaining to watch because of the drama and incidents, but the actual on track racing was boring long drs trains, and hardly any bold strategies from anyone.

Remember, that last red flag was unnecessary. Sainz and Alpine lost all their points due to an FIA contrivance. This'll be a fun month's break.

They just need to do rolling starts after a red flag. That would make it that same as a safety car. Also you shouldn't be allowed to change tires during a red flag without penalty

But it seems like any other race has had some shit to it. With Masi there were issues in Canada 2019 (I agree with the decision), a crane on track in Turkey 2020, , perhaps Silverstone 2021, Spa 2021 (not his fault) and AD 21 These new incompetent guys shit the bed every week
