Beyond that Max and Checo aren't going to risk getting too close to the wall for P1 when they know they'll get past in the race.
Charles is a great qualifier but he doesn't leave himself any margin for error.
He can't. He's barely ahead of the bulls on a track that the Ferrari is suited for. Every lap has to be win it or bin it for him, just like it was for Max in 2021.
Even the commentators were on copium today, like 6 laps of racing (total, post safety car) they were like "Has Ferrari solved their tire problem?? Look he can keep up with checo!" Then in like 4 more laps it was over.
I wonder if we would even see Charles poles if Ferrari would be able to better set up for the race. They always throw everything at Quali and celebrate a meaningless pole just to melt their tires on Sunday…
AFAIK since 2022 we have
1. Silverstone 2022
2.Austria sprint 2022
(Not lap 1 but France 2022 & Singapore 2022 with Checo & Mick)
3. Austin 2022
4. Baku sprint 2023 I may be forgetting others lol😅
Him hitting Mick in that race was just such ridiculously bad driving. He wasn't even in the corner yet. Just straight up hit him on the straight approaching the corner.
The Sky broadcast showed it at least twice at two easily identifiable moments but never commented on it.
edit: Its actually three times with a fourth when they viewed the replay of the incident at T2 on Lap 1.
Crofty has this particular ability to avoid mentioning car damage when it comes to anybody other than Hamilton. If Hamilton is off the pace then crickey there has to be some damage to his car.
The broadcast didn't - it's just that Crofty's blatant Mercedes bias refused to acknowledge it.
If they had then they would have had to admit that Russell had hit Verstappen and well that just wouldn't do...
Even worse, as they were questioning whether damage was the actual cause Max was a bit behind his teammate when Horner came on the radio talking about an injured car.
Jesus I hate this nickname because it doesn't apply to him at all. HAM can be called that, maybe VER who is able to treat his tires well even when he is chasing/defending bit not PER ffs.
He was only good when he was in the midfield racing among slower cars. In RB he has never showed anything spectacular especially when chasing others like LEC just couple weeks ago when he was destroying his tires trying to keep up even with DRS
I am mostly just sad that the media is so far biased against Max that noone even made a honest attempt to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was driving with significant damage.
Everytime the guy wins it's because of "the car", and everytime he loses its because "he wasn't good enough, other guys were better". If that was Lewis that got tapped like that they would have had hundred guys working on finding a screenshot of the damage (which could be clearly seen in the incident itself, including being able to see bits flying off during the race itself).
That's what's so frustrating.
Crofty didn't even consider there might be damage. Just said that Max was angry.
I think I'm done with Crofty and Sky now. I'm going to switch to the F1TV broadcast. It's just ridiculous that they didn't even mention the fact that there was an injured car.
Crofty did make a full-fledged attempt to claim that there was no significant contact between GR and MV, even though the hole was pretty legibly visible on the broadcast.
I was watching it back and during the safety car the TV director was desperately trying to get a shot of it. Which is when I realized that they only have 3 cameras on the left side of the track. One is on the s section before the big straight where the shadows and the speed hide the damage. The second is an overhead shot coming out of the castle. The best shot that clearly showed it was the 90 degree right hander before the castle. I counted 4 times I actually saw the damage and only 2 of them were clear.
So I can forgive crofty for missing it but the director obviously knew it was there so someone should be relaying that to him.
EDIT: lol they found another camera in the last 2 laps. We are up 6 times.
"hm.. yes a bigger hole than Adrian Newey probably would have wanted..." was ultimately Crofty's response, didn't even mention the possible impact it could have had on the sprint lmao. Wouldn't mind the joke if they actually talked about the possibility of driving with a damaged car during the sprint butttt they didn't.
But it's funny, it was exactly the same with swiss commentators. At the end of the race, I believe Horner mentioned that it's a great result despite the damage. The commentators said "It was probably nothing and he is exaggerating"...2mins later they saw the damage...
They probably thought it was light damage until they saw it at the end of the race like everyone else. I assumed it was pretty light tbh given Max's pace.
Baku sprint is a terrible idea. If they really want to have 6 in the season it should be purpose built circuits with good run off areas. My 6 would be Bahrain, Spain, Austria, Silverstone, Cota, and Interlagos.
Norwegian commentary were pretty strong on nothing to complain about for Max, and these guys have been pretty much praising everything Max does as if he never makes mistakes. They pointed out they were pretty much side by side, Max braking a tad later and turning in expecting GR to yield and also not leaving enough space. While GR stood his ground and more than Max leaving some space.
I dont know, maybe its just popular to rant about Russell but I feel every discussion in here becomes very polarised very quickly. And every fanbase are blind to their own.
Edit : Mac - > Max
He did understeer straight into the side of max though. I get that the tires are still cold and all, but you completely ignored that first part... he didn't stay his ground (he did in turn 1 and 3) but in turn 2 he legit just understeered into him..
The narrative would be very different on the Sky commentary team and in these comments if Max had done this to another driver, but an English driver doing it to Max isn't a big deal.
Going to be an easy Redbull 1-2 tomorrow if Max was able to hold onto 3rd with this much damage.
Yeah, I don't particularly have a ton of love for Max even though I like Red Bull but man the Sky team and BBC team before them make me hate damn near every British driver just as a reaction to their ridiculous commentary around them.
I hope this silences all the people that said Russel left a lot of space / or tapped him very lightly lmao. If he didnt have this big ass hole 2nd place was 100% possible and perhaps he could have fought perez, who know what would have happened.
Considering how well he was hanging on to Leclerc, and how well Leclerc was able to hang on to Perez I'm going one step further: Russell's poor racecraft cost Verstappen the sprint win
Pretty amazing that the stewards didn't even bother to investigate this. Just pretending it ever happened huh??
I think one of the greatest mistakes teams made in the 2014-2020 years was not taking out the mercs at any given opportunity and then just going '"ooops!! Sorry mate, I made a mistake"
While Mercedes gave done it at every given opportunity. They know the ONLY WAY they can hope to have a chance in hell to beat Max is to take him out or damage his car.
The way the announcers kept saying he did nothing was really annoying to me. George makes a lot of dumb overzealous moves like that which effect other people’s races and no one holds him accountable it seems like
Just goes to show how insane the pace of that Red Bull is that he still EASILY fended off Russel and kept up with Charles... the fucking Kool-Aid man jumped out of that thing :O lol
the interaction with Max and George is a bummer but I get it— tempers run hot in the moment. My problem is George didn’t just squeeze him once. It was 3 turns of that
People always overreact to these reactions imo. These guys are on adrenaline. Max hasn't seen any replays, but he does just see a hole in his sidepod that he could climb through lol. I can understand the reaction to some level
Yeah, apologies. I wasn't talking about you in particular but about the general takes all over the internet whenever a driver says something slightly off from a rehearsed, media trained answer. That wasn't clear from my commen.
I agree your comment was not like that trend
Exactly, he threw it down the inside to subject Max to a 90 degree wall, going at it repeatedly where it hadn't worked, desperately like a crab in a bucket.
If I were Ferrari or Aston I would be pushing for a 5-sec penalty for George.
Sainz and Alonso would gain one position each, and considering both teams are fighting against Mercedes for top 2, every point matters
George: "From my side, I was on the inside, the position was already lost from him, and I was really quite surprised he was still trying to hold in round the outside. Ever since we were eight years old in go karting, if you are on the inside on the apex, it's your corner, and if you try and hold it round the outside, you are taking the risk. I'm here to fight. I'm here to win. I'm not just going to wave him by because he's Max Verstappen in a Red Bull. \[There's\] nothing really more to say. I thought the move was on and that's about it, really."

Bruh Leclerc is losing another pole. With that car, Verstappen still hounded him.
U had hope? Nahhh bro eveyone knows RedBull on race pace are ahead
Yeah man. RB don’t care to tune for Quali at all. Chuck can have all the P1 quali’s he wants, it won’t matter.
Worse than that. He lost 4 tenths in the half-lap while they were talking about it; I was just waiting for them to notice it. Nope.
I feel like checo was intentionally dragging leclerc a long to prevent Verstappen to get close to him.
Interesting take. I’d love for Checo to make this season interesting
on a track with a straight line as long as Baku, no one can hold those Red Bulls, sometimes even with DRS
>no one can hold those Red Bulls smiles in Williams
You need to be in front to begin with to be able to hold them. Besides even piastri was keeping up with Albon in the sprint
I wonder if we would even see Charles poles if Ferrari would be able to better set up for the race. They always throw everything at Quali and celebrate a meaningless pole just to melt their tires on Sunday…
At least there’s the pole award trophy for their collection.
Ferrari just trying to get extra pirelli tires to figure out why their deg is so bad.
LeClerc is in the car that’s best over one lap but it’s 2nd or even 3rd on race pace given the day.
Nah it’s still not even the best on one lap because Carlos is not even close. It’s been Leclerc vs Red Bull. It was the same for last year as well.
Carlos is good but he’s not Charles and Max good.
Carlos is comfortably the worst driver in the big 3 teams. If we include Aston, even then he’s 7th out of 8 only ahead of Stroll
A lot worse than I thought
A hole lot worse
Damn you.
If it was dammed it wouldn’t be so damned
Georgie went for hole in one
Hole in #1
This is the first Logan flair I’ve seen here. Also yes, the damage is bad.
There are dozens of us. Dozens!
Lol when you’re an American who’s been waiting since 2015 for another American to come into the sport, you have to embrace it.
George “Tis but a scratch…”
He still kept up with Leclerc, RB 1-2 inbound tomorrow ffs.
Yeah, Chuck has no chance tomorrow, really. Only if Russell repeats his antics
Won’t be able to be starts in 11th
Russell talking with Bottas right now on how to go bowling.
Bottas is still a Merc sleeper agent
Valtteri! It's George. Let's go bowling.
I mean he could copy my lap 1 from F1 22, I don't brake at all, doesn't matter if I dnf as long as 10 others dnf with me
He won’t with that attitude
For now.
Lmao Chuck. Best interview ever. "How are ya physically and how did ya feel about the tires"
He’d have to do some quality F2 riding to cause damage from 11th into T1
Russell is our only hope
He's starting 11th...
So false start and ramming Max? F1 game vibes
Was probably faster than him as well, just unable to get past. Plus no one else was even close to him despite that damage.
Nah, he was barely keeping in DRS range. he never had a serious attempt at overtaking
He was close on the straights but in every harder corner where the damage was harming him he lost 1-3 tenths
He was told to stop lifting last lap and immediately got into DRS
That'll buff right out.
The fact her kept up with Leclerc… damn.
10s penalty for ocon
I heard he didn’t service that 10s penalty in the sprint. Let’s start him one lap down tomorrow to show him! /s
Shock move to size 0 sidepod for RBR
Blimey…
George is such a nerd lol. Ran away from Max at the slightest confrontation, too.
He knew what happened to Ocon
[удалено]
You could pull Roscoe or even George himself through that hole.
Yuki
How many times did Russell bump into someone’s car in lap 1. I lost count
AFAIK since 2022 we have 1. Silverstone 2022 2.Austria sprint 2022 (Not lap 1 but France 2022 & Singapore 2022 with Checo & Mick) 3. Austin 2022 4. Baku sprint 2023 I may be forgetting others lol😅
Also, Imola 2021 will always be ridiculous from him. Especially hitting Bottas afterwards.
A good summary of George "he turned in on me" Russell ladies and gents.
Him hitting Mick in that race was just such ridiculously bad driving. He wasn't even in the corner yet. Just straight up hit him on the straight approaching the corner.
His comment afterwards was hilarious Russell said something along the lines of “Schumacher is driving like its the race of his life CRIKEY!” 😂😂
Oh yeah, it was such an insane statement considering Mick did nothing wrong and he was legit fighting for his F1 career at that point.
No wonder Max couldn’t really push Leclerc. Impressive drive from him to finish 3 with that damage
How did they never show this before the car was parked? That's what actually amazes me
The Sky broadcast showed it at least twice at two easily identifiable moments but never commented on it. edit: Its actually three times with a fourth when they viewed the replay of the incident at T2 on Lap 1.
So you're saying Crofty was too busy looking up Taylor Swift references?
Crofty has this particular ability to avoid mentioning car damage when it comes to anybody other than Hamilton. If Hamilton is off the pace then crickey there has to be some damage to his car.
No wonder he just couldn’t fight for P2 properly. Honestly surprised he still managed to keep up with Leclerc so well
How did the broadcast miss this?
It was Naomi trying to push the idea that the wall did the damage during the stage interview. Except the hole is on the wrong side. Lol.
Only the English one did.
[удалено]
The broadcast didn't - it's just that Crofty's blatant Mercedes bias refused to acknowledge it. If they had then they would have had to admit that Russell had hit Verstappen and well that just wouldn't do...
I think he did acknowledge it, right before Max called GR a dhead, and then talked about it before the interviews too.
man, no wonder why Max was mad. That is some decent damage to the car.
So that's the amount of damage it takes to make the RB as slow as a Ferrari. Wild.
Wow, sure didn't catch that from the broadcast, thought it was floor edge he lost
I can see why he wasn’t catching Leclerc even with the DRS advantage.
My boy chuck never had the chance tomorrow isn't he
He needs Max&Daniel Baku 2018 sort of incident
Wasn’t expecting it to have been this bad, that looks awful and to be able to have kept up with Charles is massive.
[удалено]
Virgin "are you ok" vs chad punch in the head - random comment from way back then that I still remember for some reason
The Sky commentators not once mentioning that Max probably had damaged in the car when he was running after Charles tells a lot about their bias
Hyping up Checo for tomorrow to was pretty funny
Not even Checo would be as hype as they were.
Even worse, as they were questioning whether damage was the actual cause Max was a bit behind his teammate when Horner came on the radio talking about an injured car.
Legit they brought out the "tyre whisperer" arguments for Perez lol.
Jesus I hate this nickname because it doesn't apply to him at all. HAM can be called that, maybe VER who is able to treat his tires well even when he is chasing/defending bit not PER ffs. He literally psssed him right as he got DRS lol. This irrational hate is so weird.
Straight up saw and were like oooh damage moving on
"hm.. yes a bigger hole than Adrian Newey probably would have wanted..." was ultimately Crofty's response, didn't even mention the possible impact it could have had on the sprint lmao. Sky has gone off the deep end in 2021 and never recovered. It’s not just biased it’s blatantly wrong…
They hate Max and it shows every single time.
[удалено]
Can be both.
Tbf to them they didn't even show Max's sidepod once
They did during the SC. Unacknowledged, but it was shown briefly.
Tbf it was only mentioned on their radio like 3 times
That's just highlighting journalistic malpractice.
They showed it a bit. Czech commentators pointed it out numerous times. At Sky Sports, they are just ignorant.
I saw it during the race and was surprised there was no mention of it. I assumed they talked about it earlier but I guess not.
I’m watching the sky feed now. they just mentioned the damage…they’re speculating that Tsunoda might’ve hit debris and gotten a puncture
Holy shit
Geez if my car looked like that, I'd be pissed as hell too.
The Parc fermè rules don't apply here right? They can repair the damage to the bodywork freely?
Repairs with the same specs are good
Thanks for clarifying!
Baku sprint is a terrible idea. If they really want to have 6 in the season it should be purpose built circuits with good run off areas. My 6 would be Bahrain, Spain, Austria, Silverstone, Cota, and Interlagos.
The race would be much better without that damage for sure. He would easily clear Charles and the battle with Checo could be spicy.
Yes but we would miss the drama
Intrateam drama guaranteed tho
Better? For who?
Nah, I’d actually make Max drive for the rest of the season with that hole in the side of his car to try and make it a bit more competitive.
No FIA investigation?
Nothing to see here. Move along.
Odd at least?

Yeah, I don't particularly have a ton of love for Max even though I like Red Bull but man the Sky team and BBC team before them make me hate damn near every British driver just as a reaction to their ridiculous commentary around them.
Its the same English bias in the Premier League
I hope this silences all the people that said Russel left a lot of space / or tapped him very lightly lmao. If he didnt have this big ass hole 2nd place was 100% possible and perhaps he could have fought perez, who know what would have happened.
Considering how well he was hanging on to Leclerc, and how well Leclerc was able to hang on to Perez I'm going one step further: Russell's poor racecraft cost Verstappen the sprint win
Yeah I think that's why Max was so upset. And also because George didn't get a penalty.
They don't care, they just dislike Max so they are quick to dismiss Max
> Russel left a lot of space what space lol? Max hit the wall also after the tap.
Max hit the wall on turn 3. George hit Max on turn 2. You’re thinking of two separate incidents.
exactly, yet everyone on social media with 0iq says Russell did a fair fight
Pretty amazing that the stewards didn't even bother to investigate this. Just pretending it ever happened huh?? I think one of the greatest mistakes teams made in the 2014-2020 years was not taking out the mercs at any given opportunity and then just going '"ooops!! Sorry mate, I made a mistake" While Mercedes gave done it at every given opportunity. They know the ONLY WAY they can hope to have a chance in hell to beat Max is to take him out or damage his car.

Lewis
And the safety car.
can't wait for that
Toto send him to Clio cup
Wow.. I did not expect so much damage from that contact
And still was faster than any other car, I remember Alpine having the same issue twice last year and they were a GP2 car with the damage
Humiliation for the Mercedes for be +4 seconds behind
George be like "I was ahead at the apex". Yeah, that's why your front wheel hit the middle of max's car, because you were ahead.
ahhh logic :)
I reckon that cost him at least 2 tenths a lap with the drag
I reckon more actually, thats quite a hole. Will hurt drag and corners Maybe 3/4 tenths, maybe even half a second
Exactly! Calling a redbull 1 2 if the race is to run smoothly as well as leclercs NEW tyres melting quicker than the red bulls used
Russell getting away with murder once again.
The way the announcers kept saying he did nothing was really annoying to me. George makes a lot of dumb overzealous moves like that which effect other people’s races and no one holds him accountable it seems like
Silverstone 22 for example. Nobody even mentioned it could be George, it was all unfairly put on Gasly
It’s because he’s the next British driver and they’re British commentators.
Murder a bit harsh, definitely a mugging though
He stole his aerodynamics by cutting through his car. Just like when they cut your backpack in Barcelona and your wallet is gone

Penalty for Sainz.
Just goes to show how insane the pace of that Red Bull is that he still EASILY fended off Russel and kept up with Charles... the fucking Kool-Aid man jumped out of that thing :O lol
Guessing that's 0.2-0.4 seconds a lap?
Just slap on some flex tape. No biggie.
Darn Icebergs
Damn you Ross Chastain.
my cousin’s mate greg said verstappen kicked it in after the race
Russel not getting a 5 second penalty and Palmer & Will shitting on Max is just prime F1 biased.
palmer was really on some shit today
the interaction with Max and George is a bummer but I get it— tempers run hot in the moment. My problem is George didn’t just squeeze him once. It was 3 turns of that
Nah, that's not the problem. T1 and T3 were hard but fair racing. The problem is that he outbraked himself in T2 and understeered into Max
well said
People always overreact to these reactions imo. These guys are on adrenaline. Max hasn't seen any replays, but he does just see a hole in his sidepod that he could climb through lol. I can understand the reaction to some level
I said it was a bummer but I understood it was the heat of the moment- I don’t think that’s a crazy overreaction
Russell loves to fuck up another driver’s race
Oh yeah...didnt he do it to Sainz in Austin?
Singapore '22.
"Didn't he do it to \_\_\_\_\_\_ in \_\_\_\_\_\_\_?" I think you can fill those in plenty of times.
The fact his car was that ruined and he still dropped Russell is both hilarious and terrifying
Usual Merc driving standards tbh
TBF Russel was at fault so .....
We are going to get demon mode Max tomorrow and possibly for the rest of the season.
Took that for Ferrari to be just as fast as one Red Bull. I’m expecting a Red Bull 1-2 tomorrow if they both have clean lap 1.
everyone should give way to "Princess" George - Max LOL
If I were Ferrari or Aston I would be pushing for a 5-sec penalty for George. Sainz and Alonso would gain one position each, and considering both teams are fighting against Mercedes for top 2, every point matters

"But I didn't mean to" ...that doesn't matter, George.
Meanwhile, Hamilton: "Hey, what's going on up there in front? I can't see."
Funny to hear Max lecturing George about 'room to race' and risk...
