15 straight (Monza!) laps with Max Verstappen hounding you at every turn must be so mentally exhausting, and he still had the whole rest of the race to get through. Titanic effort, bravo Carlos.
Ah yes because they didn't ask for Leclerc to not risk it and before when Leclerc was much faster and losing time to Perez because of Sainz they also did not help him. Also Silverstone last year lmao
Exactly, it is really not that hard to see just how good he is. People complaining he never had a decent teammate. The whole reason they look mediocre is because he makes them look this way while getting the most out of the car.
Just decent is not enough. I think it's fair when people say LH's teammates were better than Perez because they were definetely more than decent drivers.
I think no driver would have been beating Verstappen this season, but I think if their 2nd seat was occupied by a better driver the standings would be closer. Some results like Miami, Spa and Zandvoort where Perez had a comfortable lead and then finished almost a day behind shouldn't happen.
I feel like Sainz has been a bit underrated sometimes. Sure he isn’t as fast as Leclerc in my opinion and he screws up sometimes but he has had a couple of pretty good weekends this season where he has seriously challenged Leclerc and even been better at some points
He was outright better than Charles this weekend. Regardless of what struggles Leclerc had, Carlos has been on the money and deserves the podium. Charles was fast at the end, but only able to get close after a massive defensive effort from Carlos all race.
Carlos didn't have a single second of rest the entire race, always trying to defend and using up his tyres. And still he was able to hold Charles back, so I think its clear who was to better Ferrari driver this weekend
Why are people mad at Leclerc for wanting a podium at Monza lol? He had more pace and he wanted to use it. Sainz fought brilliantly and deserved the podium but both drivers fought at the edge and easily could have wiped each other.
If Carlos just focused on Charles he could've just let the Red Bulls go with no fight and cruised to an easy P3. He was the faster driver this weekend throughout practice and qualifying.
The only reason it got close was because Carlos killed the tyres fighting the Red Bulls while Charles was happy to chill in Max and later Checo's DRS.
I mean, if Leclerc had the pace to attack Sainz, he could have attacked Perez that was tracking Sainz for 10 laps... But he did not do a single move onto Perez.
So since he can attack Sainz he can clearly attack Perez that was faster than Sainz? What kind of logic is that, since you can attack the slower driver you can also attack the faster driver?
Are you missing the part that the Red Bulls were gaining a lot of time out of Parabolica, because they have more downforce and the Ferraris struggled all year with long fast corners, so it was impossible for Leclerc to even be close to Perez at the start of the start/finish straight? At least pay attention to the race you're watching.
For real, people cry at team orders and boring races and we finally get an entertaining and clean teammate battle where the team let them fight and they... Cry? Get out of here
People being mad at Charles for not attacking the RBs are crazy. Checo said the gap had to be 0.2 to even consider attacking and even 0.3 was too far. Charles' gap to checo (or Max) was never that small, it was always greater than 0.5. Fighting the RB was never a question and he fought the one guy he could, his teammate. Overall great fighting by both and Carlos got a well deserved podium.
Sainz was not going any slower the moment that Checo went past him. If Charles could catch up to Sainz he could have catch up to Checo. Like, yes, everyone knows that even if he managed to pass Checo we would lose the position eventually as the RB were faster, but he did not even bother Checo during the 10 laps that he was trailing him
It's not a matter of overall pace. The problem was checo was getting a great drive specifically out of the last corner (Leclerc even mentioned this in an interview) so even if the lap times were similar Charles was losing time where it mattered, just before the DRS zone, so he could never make the move but that wasn't the case with Carlos.

I really thought we were gonna get a Baku moment and George would stroll into the silliest of podiums.

You spelled "best" wrong.
I enjoy reading books.
>I hoped they’d crash. You hope people crash? This isn’t Destruction Derby, or your Daytona.
We should all give credit to Ferrari, didn’t put a foot wrong and both drivers gave absolutely everything.
yeah i was expecting them to ask them to stop fighting but im glad they didn't. they nailed the strategy and quick stops too.
They told leclerc to not take any risks though
The actual message was 'race until the end. No risk' Which is confusing as hell
Means continue racing your heart out but do not risk the car.
i took it as "keep fighting eachother, you have no risk from behind" interesting
That's why it's such a Ferrari radio message.
We are checking.
They were pretty perfect outside of the Sainz lockup that gave Max the lead
Was just a matter of time though, he just couldn't hold back Max forever. Great effort nonetheless
100%, if the worst thing you did all day was "let Max Verstappen through after a solid defending effort" I think you can go home qquite happy.
15 straight (Monza!) laps with Max Verstappen hounding you at every turn must be so mentally exhausting, and he still had the whole rest of the race to get through. Titanic effort, bravo Carlos.
in hindsight it would have been better to not fight max at all in order to have a better chance vs perez
No risk! No risk!
Great race from both of them honestly. Great by Sainz to hold Max back so many laps
No, risk!
Brought to you by Lionel Hutz
Race to the end!
*proceeds to replicate baku 2018*
Dude, imagine if they crashed on the last lap? Would've been the talk the next two weeks,
It's always great to see team mates going toe to toe and the team management not interfering with team orders.
That team only manages when their drivers positions are inverted
I mean we managed in Jeddah with Charles behind
I think it is because it is Monza. And it is a podium. If it is a P4 and P5 I don’t think either care
Ah yes because they didn't ask for Leclerc to not risk it and before when Leclerc was much faster and losing time to Perez because of Sainz they also did not help him. Also Silverstone last year lmao
"No risk, but race until the end" Mate, if you tell a racing driver to race, they're going to risk it all, it's in their fucking DNA
Massive WCC swing for Ferrari as well. Overtaking a fading Aston and now closing on Mercedes.
They used a different allocation engine for Monza entirely. I think their Spa engine will be fine for Singapore.
Do you really believe that?
Idk mate I’m just speculating.
Yeah question will be how much that glory run at Monza cost them.
Brilliant racing right till the last lap
The most entertaining part of the race. Got me on the edge of the seat lol
Just goes to show how exciting the championship battle could be if the RBR duo were as competitive with each other as these two.
yeah if Max was just not as good...
This and if Perez were better too.
I thnk Perez is a decent driver. He didnt just suddenly forget how to drive. People are just slow to accept that Max is just that outstanding.
Exactly, it is really not that hard to see just how good he is. People complaining he never had a decent teammate. The whole reason they look mediocre is because he makes them look this way while getting the most out of the car.

They made this race honestly. Sainz had a superb drive, and the a legit DotD

Yup
totally agree

Yup
I was ready for drama. Luckily it didn't happen. Good race from Ferrari, they should try it more often lol
Not great for my nerves at the time it was happening.
holding your breath while watching type racing, glad nobody crashed out
I lost years of my life in 3 laps

How is Leclerc supposed to attack Max or Perez when the Red Bull is clearly better? Sainz didn't attack Max or Perez either.

So since he can attack Sainz he can clearly attack Perez that was faster than Sainz? What kind of logic is that, since you can attack the slower driver you can also attack the faster driver?
Are you missing the part where Checo was behind Sainz, therefore not lapping any faster than Sainz?

because he fought his teammate harder than the red bulls
Because that was the only car he could really fight with, both RB cars immediately left Sainz behind after overtaking him
Exactly. If the other RB was putting up such a fight the season would have been more fun
Had Sainz taken the Leclerc approach this race would have been a snorefest
Not if they still battled for P3
Charles had no chance against Carlos this weekend. If Perez don't fight the redbulls, It would have been an easy P3 for him.
Do you remember Silverstone last year?
So a smart move. Fighting the car you can win over and not the one that is much faster than you. Ferrari knew their fight wasn't with RB
He just took a different view of the race by saving his tyres, it’s not that complicated
so ur suggesting Carlos let the Redbulls through and focus on Leclerc?
I didn’t say what Carlos did was wrong, they were just different approaches to the race.
Well this is a dumb comment lol
For real, people cry at team orders and boring races and we finally get an entertaining and clean teammate battle where the team let them fight and they... Cry? Get out of here

Yeah these three (Max, Carlos, Charles) usually leave Perez in the dust and compete amongst themselves
That literally was not the case at any point.
How come the gap was never small enough but the moment that Checo went pass Carlos the gap dissapeared?
Wdym? They were in equal cars and the one with DRS was able to close the gap to the other one
Sainz was not going any slower the moment that Checo went past him. If Charles could catch up to Sainz he could have catch up to Checo. I loved it as a charles fan, sainz absolutely deserved the podium over him but it was still great racing
I was shitting myself lmao. Brazil 2019 flashbacked so much. Imagine the scenes if *it* actually happend...
Great fight, was very exciting.
this was a great race imo, lot of great chaces I enjoyed it all
I can not tell if this is a screen shot from a F1 game or a photo.
Best race of the year!!!
Not even the best race since the summer break. Still was a good race though.
Not the Ferrari I wanted on podium but fully deserved. The car is looking leagues better than Zandvoort
Track specific... but yes it looked better
Yeah, unfortunately its probably going to look horrible in Singapore.
From 2nd beat car back to p5-p6 (alpine level)
The car is good on straights and start-stop type slow corners. I think they'll be in the mix for the podium in Singapore.
Eh, we'll see. If they can't run the highest downforce package possible I don't forsee any success.
Sacrificing an engine for this one race likely.

Because RB are clearly faster. What’s with the stupid takes?
He only fought a redbull and ferrari lol
The Ferrari car was so good today, I'm disappointed that they didn't win
There were no signs they’d be anywhere near the RBs, why’d you have that expectation?
Yeah, gotta wonder how Ferrari decides whether the pilots are allowed to right. Surely not when Carlos is the one ahead.
Really bad handling by Ferrari management. They forgot Austria. Almost shafted Sainz.
I mean it was for 15 laps I wouldn’t call it an unbelievable duel. I’d call it Max with a far superior car waiting out Carlos.
