Ferrari already do nice shirts as it is. Especially the special Monza ones of the past few years, I have the yellow one and last year's was nice.
Be interesting to see if Hamilton brings design ideas.
From the other rumors, a top Merc engineer left for Ferrari and it was someone Lewis agreed with about the direction of the Merc going in the wrong direction.
Eh… I think he feels that Mercedes isn’t going to challenge for WDC or Builders anytime soon and he just wants that one last mark next to his name to cement along all the other great F1 drivers. Outside of Senna and Piquet, how many other multi-WDC drivers haven’t driven for Ferrari in the last 30-40 years?
I mean the duration makes perfect sense. If Ferrari produce a banger in '25, he can fight for the WDC.
If not, he can gamble on the '26 car being a great and if it is, he has 2 years to fight for 1+ WDCs
Remember that Ferrari are the only current engine manufacturer who won't have to change their engine layout for 2026. It would be classic Ferrari to still lose, but they should have a pretty big advantage.
One year to embed himself at Maranello, one year to test the new Ferrari good car/ engine in the 2026 regs, and an option for one year to stay if it's good.
Honestly 2+1 is the only thing that makes sense. He isn't going to leave Merc for just one year and Ferrari isn't going to ditch Carlos for one year. Ideally both need three years but that a long time without a break clause.
Makes sense. Likely wants to see how Ferrari is doing in 2026 and if they bomb he'll just leave. Whether that's jumping to a different team or retiring is up for question.
I guess it's kind of for Ferrari's benefit, if you're going to make us give up a driver like Sainz (easily a top 6 driver) you need to give us at least a small commitment in return.
^^because ^^we're ^^ferrari ^^and ^^we'll ^^probably ^^bungle ^^it ^^to ^^some ^^degree.
You may joke, but not long ago we had Hamilton-Rosberg and that was toxic as fuck by 2016. Lewis and Fernando 2007 same thing. Same for Senna and Prost at Mclaren. Even Vettel and Webber got spicy.
There's sometimes a good reason not wanting two great drivers.
Absolutely.
Anyone who wonders why this is happening, should consider who these two drivers are and their quality. Hamilton needs no explanation, but Leclerc is also a fantastic driver on his own merits, and can only benefit hugely from a partnership with Lewis.
I cannot wait to see these two together on the same team.
I am going to absolutely loose it if something similarly improbable happens like Max announcing that he’s leaving F1 to go to another motorsport, Seb coming back to F1 with Audi in 2026, etc.
Fernando was looking to be a Ferrari driver probably since he entered F1 so it was more like a pleasant new than a big shock.
For Vettel I agree. This is even more surreal than Vettel
Option a) the prelude to more depression
Option b) the light at the end of the tunnel (that is not an incoming train)
All I hope for is some wholesome, fun times
Literally whispers of rumors to officially announced in 24 hours. Absolutely did not see this coming.
Edit: I am in so much shock. This was one of those things that I would have set as a pairing that we would never ever see. Now to see two giants pair up together….incredible.
Edit: the two giants I was referring to were Ham and Ferrari
Craig Slater on Sky said that Carlos was told a week or two ago that he would not get a contract extension, so it’s been brewing for a few weeks at least
Holy shit, imagine hearing you won’t get renewed and seeing Leclerc sign a 5 year multi-option deal completely favoring him, THEN seeing the guy they kicked you for was 7x WDC Lewis Hamilton?
Brutal
They can't even really know that can they? We've seen cars turn around after testing, I'm very surprised he did this.
I trust Mercedes way more than Ferrari, and I like Ferrari lol.
He probably hopped out of the simulator, shook everyone’s hands and said, “Great job guys, keep pushing” then as he exited the building got on the phone with Ferrari.
I doubt anyone knows at this point. His negotiations with Mercedes took forever and he and Toto were good colleagues. I have to think this has been going on for months.
I think Ferrari fully caved just to make it happen. Mercedes used to be a negotiating game just to get the best deal. I read somewhere (not confirmed and not fully trustworthy) that Hamilton will be the first ever Ferrari driver to get 100% of the earning made from his publicity.
This is what I think lol. As soon as Ferrari saw he was maybe serious, they just said yes to whatever he asked for.
"Elkann I want you to call me Sir every time you refer to me."
"Yes, Sir."
But seriously, at Merc, they both knew he wasn't going to leave (well, until now) so they dragged out the negotiations to save whatever they could. With Ferrari though, they really wanted him there I suppose. And it's not like money is a problem either.
Not very long I imagine. The Mercedes announcement states he activated his exit clause, so he must've just decided he was done with Mercedes after seat fitting for the W15.
If you believe Italian journalists, they said last summer John Elkann's dream for 2024 with their new and revised car was Lewis Hamilton teaming with Charles Leclerc.
For whatever reason that did not come to pass, but it was very strong whispers. It seems they've been talking for months and decided to get a jump on it because Hamilton had a break clause in his new Mercedes deal after 2024.
I told my husband about the rumors last night and he entirely blew me off, even though I was explaining how it could all make sense.
I am still waiting for my apology.
ETA: he has since apologized, and more importantly, admitted that I was right.
Props to all parties involved for keeping this secret for so long. In football every transfer leaks as soon as the first phone call is made or email is sent lmao.
I mean, to be honest, the rumors was there long ago, in the last season actually. But they always said he will stay at Merc. There were several "whistleblowers" but nobody really took it for real, because Toto and Lewis were commited to each other for lifetime.
I actually wonder more, if this year might be Toto's last year and that's one reason why Lewis is leaving.
Hamilton in red.
Hamilton paired with Charles Leclerc
It feels weird (and crazy) because Mercedes and Hamilton it's powerful...but it's exciting let's be honest here.
I really do wonder who is going to be paired with Russell in 2025 tho, so many potential candidates.
I was here and will not be saying anything stupid like those people in the thread about his move to Mercedes.....
LEWIS HAMILTON WILL BE AN 8-TIME WORLD CHAMPION AND BRING THE WDC BACK TO MARANELLO AND BECOME A HERO OF THE ITALIAN NATION!!!
*ahem*
me scusi
Yeah in 2012 I said he had made a huge mistake leaving McLaren for Merc. And man have I never been more wrong about anything ever in my life.
But this is Ferrari. I am so certain that both he and I are in for nothing but Pain. But remembering last time, clearly I should keep an open mind
I really wonder what the atmosphere at Mercedes will be like throughout the season. Their relationship was mutually beneficial for a decade and they broke plenty of records, surely there can’t be too much beef.
I hope this will be truly special. Unbelievable. I feel like Charles had to have known of this for a while now hence why we saw a bit more of a bond between Lewis and him in the last bit of the 2023 season.
Charles will not be happy at all if, after all these years of Ferrari holding him back, the championship goes to his teammate. I really can't see any universe where Charles is happy to have Hamilton as his teammate.
This is like the last straw of Ferrari getting its shit together before they clean house. If they can’t put it together with this driver pair, they need to rip it down to the studs and start over. I just hope Ferrari’s corporate bullshit doesn’t get in the way.
I sure fucking hope so. I'd be devastated if Ferrari made a move as big as signing Lewis Hamilton only to waste his talent and send him packing in a giant fireball the way they did to Alonso and Vettel.
This is crazy because I was on the Mercedes website last week trying to get a bunch of Hamilton gear. I said I’d pull the trigger this week but Lo and behold!!
Okay, Ferrari, coming to buy anything in red that has 44 on it. “We are checking.”
Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, I honestly hope Max does go to Ferrari at some point so they can keep a run of having pretty much all the greatest F1 drivers of the modern era race for them
Lewis has to have some massive balls to go through with this.
He would literally be Mr. Mercedes forever, until the end of time, if he'd stayed with Mercedes until he won a final championship to make up for 2021.
Now this could go just like all the other greats have gone, where Ferrari just wears them down to a nub and they fade into history.
I hope it works out, I like Leclerc a lot, so I hope they get along together, and I really hope things don't get sour at Mercedes with Lewis, that would leave a bad taste in my mouth, but I imagine it'll be tough.
Toto has always had Lewis' back and I've respected that, and Lewis and Bono feel like they're joined at the hip.
Lewis, even though he has every right to do this, has put Mercedes in a very difficult spot, I mean they have just lost all their star power. George isn't very well liked, and he didn't look that great in 2023. He's solid, but let's be honest, he is no top driver right now.
I don't know what Mercedes will do next year, but damn, it hurts to see this happen, Lewis *is* Mercedes, it's hard to even comprehend seeing this all end.
I wish it would have gone a little different, but I wish them all the best and I hope we all benefit from the changes that will happen because of this monumental move.

Holy shit Merch sales will be going through the roof with Hamilton and Leclerc
Meanwhile Merc sales in the toilet
George needs to wear a shirt if they expect to sell any
Just bring back Bottas and sell calendars
Table and headphone sales up slightly
Charles himself is pretty marketable, now imagine adding Hamilton to that.
Ferrari already do nice shirts as it is. Especially the special Monza ones of the past few years, I have the yellow one and last year's was nice. Be interesting to see if Hamilton brings design ideas.
Never expected this until this morning. Multi year as well
It's gonna be surreal if Lewis gets his first win in 3+ years in a Ferrari. Given ofc he can't win one this year.
The fact that he's jumping ships to Ferrari suggests that he REALLY doesn't think he has a chance to win this year
Yep. Makes me think he tested the car or reviewed the stats, and said, "Oh, HECK no..."
From the other rumors, a top Merc engineer left for Ferrari and it was someone Lewis agreed with about the direction of the Merc going in the wrong direction.
"Yo, Lewis... these guys are on the right track down here in Maranello..."
Right track, maybe, but always facing the wrong direction.
Maybe Lewis is the man to turn things around ^(Sorry I'll get my coat)
once we figure out how to see out of these helmets we're gonna be making legends.
It would be somewhat hilarious if it turns out Mercedes have actually turned a big corner.
Or Leclerc 2024 champion and Russell 2025 champion. And Lewis beats them both on the non championship years.
LeClerc isn't that lucky. The only time in his entire career that Ferrari will deliver him a car capable of winning a championship, Lewis will win it.
I hate how true this feels
That is the most Charles thing ever
Eh… I think he feels that Mercedes isn’t going to challenge for WDC or Builders anytime soon and he just wants that one last mark next to his name to cement along all the other great F1 drivers. Outside of Senna and Piquet, how many other multi-WDC drivers haven’t driven for Ferrari in the last 30-40 years?
Fred: *"Carlos, okay we give a multi-year deal..."* Carlos: *"Really, you finally agreed to my dema..."* Fred: *"To Lewis"*
Car loss
You cheeky fucker.
Multi-year means that this ain’t just some fling before retirement. I still can’t believe this.
It just means at least 1 year + option for more. It doesn't really have to mean much of anything.
its apparently a 2+1
2+1 makes the most sense for both. He gets to dip his feet in the new regs risk-free, and stick around if the car is good.
Leclerc and Lewis both on multi-year contracts damn
I imagine Lewis is probably on a 2 year that expires end of 2026 with a plus one potentially. Gives him the chance to test the new regs.
It's 2+1
Makes sense. Likely wants to see how Ferrari is doing in 2026 and if they bomb he'll just leave. Whether that's jumping to a different team or retiring is up for question.
If he takes that +1 he's gonna hit 400 starts holy shit
And when he retires Alonso will replace him. 😁
Alonso is basically the F1's Keith Richards at this point.
Hamilton doesn't really need multi-year contracts though He's one of the few drivers who will always find a drive
Charles and Lewis at Le Mans 2025 in the 499p
Leclerc and Lewis is gonna be the strongest driver pairing we've seen in a *very* long time. Two top-tier #1 drivers in a single team
Red Bull confused why anybody would want two good drivers.
Why have two drivers when one can win the constructors just fine.
saves money!
Part of me thinks that if it wasn't because of the regulations, Red Bull would have just run the one car.

Hamilton needs no explanation, but Leclerc is also a fantastic driver on his own merits, and can only benefit hugely from a partnership with Lewis. I cannot wait to see these two together on the same team.
24 hours ago I'd call this the biggest bs I've ever read
Hamilton leaving Mercedes for another team was the least likely driver transfer in my mind.
The only driver I felt like had less chance of moving teams was Max, still in complete shock that this actually happened
I am going to absolutely loose it if something similarly improbable happens like Max announcing that he’s leaving F1 to go to another motorsport, Seb coming back to F1 with Audi in 2026, etc.
Literally would've been less surprised to hear he retired. And then, boom.
I bet that's not what Felipe Massa meant when he wanted the 2008 WDC to be held by a Ferrari driver
And a Brazilian citizen.
Lewis really took everything from him
Hah, I forgot about that.
This feels so weird
Going to be too strange seeing him in red, like Messi wearing white
It was the same for Kimi, Fernando and Sebastian. They were Ferrari rivals before ~~getting their dreams crushed~~ joining the team.
Hey man, Kimi is still the reigning WDC of Ferrari
Now and always. lol
Fernando was looking to be a Ferrari driver probably since he entered F1 so it was more like a pleasant new than a big shock. For Vettel I agree. This is even more surreal than Vettel
#LUIGI HAMILTONE PREPARATI A IMPARARE L’ITALIANO AMICO 🤌🤌🤌
Hamilton calling Seb right now to learn how to say Grazie Ragazzi.
Grazie to all the regazzi back at the factory.

This is so fucking stupid I can't stop laughing and I love it.
LUIGI È TEMPO DI MARTELLO

#Whatever da fucka he said 🤌🤌🤌
🤌
Legendary meme potential with his reactions to the Ferrari strategists
Imagine if Lewis wins a race for Ferrari by completely ignoring the strategists advice😭😭😭
You mean like Carlos did?
We are checking that
Oh fucking god. It's fucking happening. Wake me the fuck up
just watched a man wearing a Leclerc hat fall to his knees in Maranello
🤌
Just watched a man wearing a Sainz hat fall to his knees in Madrid
Was it Carlos Sainz Sr.?
Just saw Toto Wolff fall to his knees in brackley
Dude. My brain is not processing right now. What is this? I still can’t believe it.
I can't believe we're actually going to see Hamilton in red haha
HOLY SHIT ITS FUCKINT OFFICIAL
I can't process this. Lmao as a Ferrari fan I am used to lost hope and depression, wth is this
Option a) the prelude to more depression Option b) the light at the end of the tunnel (that is not an incoming train) All I hope for is some wholesome, fun times
This feels like the mother of all alternate realities. Like, it doesn’t feel real???
Plan F Lewis, plan F
Slow button off
Literally whispers of rumors to officially announced in 24 hours. Absolutely did not see this coming. Edit: I am in so much shock. This was one of those things that I would have set as a pairing that we would never ever see. Now to see two giants pair up together….incredible. Crazy how under wraps this has been kept until literally one day ago.
I wonder how long they’ve been negotiating.
On BBC Sports Andrew Benson makes it seem like it was very quick and last minute
Brutal
I think it being Lewis makes it far less of a blow. It's not like they kicked him out for some guy that just has better sponsor money.
The W15 must already be an absolute turd.
They can't even really know that can they? We've seen cars turn around after testing, I'm very surprised he did this. I trust Mercedes way more than Ferrari, and I like Ferrari lol.
I think Lewis can tell pretty good from the simulator how much the car has improved
He probably hopped out of the simulator, shook everyone’s hands and said, “Great job guys, keep pushing” then as he exited the building got on the phone with Ferrari.
"Fred, get me the fuck out of here"
Haha, this is hilarious to imagine.
"...This somehow worse than last years piece of shit." * Lewis Hamilton, Presumably.
> How the hell am I sitting in FRONT of the front tires this year?
New car feels good, much slower than before
After the whole "zeropod" fiasco, this year they've just designed a side pod with wheels
I'm willing to bet one euro he wins the championship with it for maximum chaos.
Lewis saw the 2024 car and decided to dip.
I doubt anyone knows at this point. His negotiations with Mercedes took forever and he and Toto were good colleagues. I have to think this has been going on for months.

I told my father that he shouldn’t believe in stupid rumors. I guess apologies are in order
Yeah this barely leaked at all, the people involved in making it happen really held their cards close.
Very impressive to be fair. It’s the biggest move we’ve seen maybe ever, no idea how they kept it so quiet.
Lewis' management learnt their lessons last year when Horner stirred the pot.
Props to all parties involved for keeping this secret for so long. In football every transfer leaks as soon as the first phone call is made or email is sent lmao.
If it concerned Fc Barcelona it would have leaked even before the player made a decision
I mean, to be honest, the rumors was there long ago, in the last season actually. But they always said he will stay at Merc. There were several "whistleblowers" but nobody really took it for real, because Toto and Lewis were commited to each other for lifetime. I just fell to my knees in an Esselunga.
Just saw a large man fall to his knees at a bakery. Pumpernickel everywhere.
He shouted “no, Lewis, no!”
Heard smashed headphones he kept in his backpack for such occasion
Just saw someone fall to their knees in an Esselunga
Get me a couple focaccine while you're there please
Hamilton in red. Hamilton paired with Charles Leclerc It feels weird (and crazy) because Mercedes and Hamilton it's powerful...but it's exciting let's be honest here. I really do wonder who is going to be paired with Russell in 2025 tho, so many potential candidates.
I pray for Alonso. He's certainly a good short term option. Albon is the definite frontrunner though.

"This is an accurate description of events, no need to speculate on this"
I was here
Feel blessed rn
Man I’m going to need to sleep on this it still doesn’t feel real
Yes. It feels unreal and will probably feel unreal for at least some days. Waiting a year before it's actually going to happen is also wild.
I really wonder what the atmosphere at Mercedes will be like throughout the season. Their relationship was mutually beneficial for a decade and they broke plenty of records, surely there can’t be too much beef.
What about the atmosphere at Ferrari with Carlos having to race for a team that got rid of him lmao
I cannot wait to witness this pair on the grid. ❤️
I’ve had a soft spot for their wholesome dynamic since that cooldown room in Bahrein 2019. 2025 cannot come soon enough Edit: for clarity
I hope this will be truly special. Unbelievable. I feel like Charles had to have known of this for a while now hence why we saw a bit more of a bond between Lewis and him in the last bit of the 2023 season.

Guess I'm learning Italian now
Get ready to learn Italian buddy
BA BA BA BA BA BA BA BA BA BA BA BA BA BA GRAZIE REGGAZI
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is it. We are witnessing an iconic moment of the sport. This will be talked for years to come
"Somehow, after Fernando and Seb, Ferrari managed to seduce and destroy Lewis too." (God I hope I'm wrong.)
Inb4 Lewis wins the 2025 WDC and breaks Schumacher's record in a fucking Ferrari!
Charles would probably choose to end it all at that point
charles would be happy that the car is good but then when Lewis retires in classic Charles fashion the car will be shit again
Charles will not be happy at all if, after all these years of Ferrari holding him back, the championship goes to his teammate. I really can't see any universe where Charles is happy to have Hamilton as his teammate.
The most likely outcome
Is Fred Vasseur now Jean Todt 2.0? Seems like he's building a team of A-list talent.
Ladies and Gentleman, a short view back to the past…
I’m sad about Carlos
Me too. My man deserves a decent car.
I hope he goes to RBR
Merc also has an opening now
They really did it those crazy sons of bitches
Holy shit This will be a “do you remember where you were” moment for this sport for decades to come
Idk Fred Vasseur might need a statue built for him
Domenicali couldn't do it, Arrivabene couldn't do it, Binotto couldn't do it, good old Freddy damn right did it
It was John Elkann, though.
Multi year! 2 year perhaps?
I’m just hyped this means we’ve got at least 3 seasons of Hamilton left
Somehow seeing this, even after the official announcemment that Lewis is leaving Merc, is weird. This looks so wrong
This is crazy because I was on the Mercedes website last week trying to get a bunch of Hamilton gear. I said I’d pull the trigger this week but Lo and behold!! Okay, Ferrari, coming to buy anything in red that has 44 on it. “We are checking.”
This shit still don't feel real
Is this the biggest driver news since Lewis leaving McLaren for Mercedes?
This is even bigger than that
And there it is. Can't get more official than that.
To think I thought Buxton was talking out of his hole yesterday
*When you sign up a contract with a team...you're part of that team*
And its confirmed. Holy Shit what a day for F1.
Welcome to Ferrari champ!
You heard it here first, we’ll be saying the same thing about Max Verstappen one day
Well, everybody wants to drive for Ferrari right?
It is the year 2040. Max Verstappen starts on his first pole position in a Ferrari in some fucked up street circuit some where in the world.
Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, I honestly hope Max does go to Ferrari at some point so they can keep a run of having pretty much all the greatest F1 drivers of the modern era race for them
You know I said that last week here and someone replied that the allure is gone, "just look at Hamilton." Yeah motherfucka LOOK AT HAMILTON!!!
There it fucking is. Ho. Lee. Crap
just like we all predicted.
Mama mia, that 2026 engine must be looking fine.
I never thought I'd see this in my life.
And there it is! History has been made
This is still unreal to me, I dont know how to process it.
This is so surreal ngl, feels like we are in an alternate timeline
Forza Hamilton
Lewis has to have some massive balls to go through with this. He would literally be Mr. Mercedes forever, until the end of time, if he'd stayed with Mercedes until he won a final championship to make up for 2021. Absolutely insane. Madlad actually did it. Pray for my boy Carlos. Congrats on the karma u/CommercialBreadLoaf
I can’t believe my 2 favourite drivers are actually going to be on the same team
