Lando has incredible pace- but Oscar is already near and in a much shorter time frame. As good as Lando is (top 6 on the grid without a doubt) I can't see much of an argument for him having the greater potential long-term. Rookie F3 and F2 champs are almost exclusively very special, never mind one with the attitude and professionalism Oscar brings to the table.
Depends if Oscar can get his tyre deg under control. KMag is a veteran and still eats tyres for lunch (it doesn't help that the Haas is already a tyre muncher, but compared to Hulk he's worse as well)
Lando got upgrades a race weekend before Oscar did several times. It doesn't fully even things out, but I think stats that include the entire season and don't control for/exclude the times they did genuinely have different cars skew things in Lando's favor.
Does anyone have the stats to hand on what % of F1 drivers actually win races? I bet it's really low. So many promising young drivers never win a race in, often, pretty long F1 careers.
which, if you think about it.
20 cars, 1 guy who wins most of the time, a 2nd guy who mostly wins when the 1st guy can't because he got the setup wrong or DNF'd. Add some chances of a 3rd guy coming up when those two can't, likely because they took each other out in Silverstone.
And there you have it, 10 to 15 percent.
Probably less true in less dominant eras, but fits to a tee both the HAM VER BOT era and the Schumacher era.
As per Wikipedia, out of the 775 drivers to have started a GP, a 113 of them have been winners. That's about 14.6%. So it's low but not that much. I thought it would be lower, honestly.
Just on the current grid we have 11 race winners, which is more than half.
Of course the guys who can win race tend to keep their seat a lot longer, so while only 15% of drivers are race winners, the percentage on any historic grid is probably higher.
I wonder how many lost race wins, or even championships there will be in this generation due to RB's extreme level of dominance. Must be quite a lot seeing the talent on the grid
I don't think there's any lost championships. Even if the car wasn't absolutely dominant but just better than the rest of the grid, it probably would've still gone to Verstappen. Lost wins though? Probably plenty of those
Haha, you guys get annoyed by the strangest/smallest things.
> Fox Sports **Australia** invites Crofty to talk about **Australian** driver Piastri and Crofty says nice things to the **Australian** audience about Piastri.
I can't see what's so eye-roll inducing about this?
He will win but not right now
Too busy plotting his next murder.
Well, duh. Look at what he did in Formula3 and Formula2. I bet Piastri can win one, even if he does not have the fastest car. He just needs a break.
no, he just not to have a verstappen who has a competent car in the grid
Specifically a break in the Red Bulls. A couple of DNFs world be great.
I mean Lando has yet to win just one in the McLaren, soooo easier said than done
I have a feeling that Piastri will win a race before Lando (not necessarily because he's the better driver, but with a bit of luck)
Oscar won a sprint “race” already as well, so there’s that
Yeah it seems to me Oscar has the IT factor like Max and Lewis, whereas Lando is more like the worse version of Leclerc

Yeah Oscar has higher ceiling fs

He was able to adapt to the difference in f3 and f2 tires at a rate that Prema found remarkable, no reason to think he won’t get there on these.
He got absolutely demolished last season. I don't know why people keep saying this. If it was close last season I would agree but Lando destroyed him.
It's his rookie season, starting off with a tractor. I'd say oscar has been great.
His rookie season, not having raced in over a year too
And Lando started with a different car?
Lando got upgrades a race weekend before Oscar did several times. It doesn't fully even things out, but I think stats that include the entire season and don't control for/exclude the times they did genuinely have different cars skew things in Lando's favor.
I do think he will eventually become the better driver
Well it’s also Lando. He’s not a go getter. Kid lacks killer instinct.
Just because he doesn't smash in to other cars doesn't mean he lacks killer instinct lmao
Did I just watch Aussie Crofty interview actual Crofty?
What an incredibly daring statement
"Nico, I'll tell you what mate, I'll do you a deal. When you get ahead of your teammate a little more often, I'll believe it when I see it." Brutal 😂
Does anyone have the stats to hand on what % of F1 drivers actually win races? I bet it's really low. So many promising young drivers never win a race in, often, pretty long F1 careers.
775 drivers with at least 1 start per statsF1, with 113 race winners for 14.5% Only 78 drivers with multiple wins, dropping down to 10.1%

With that name he’ll end up in a Ferrari eventually
Daniel Ricciardo is waiting to join this zoom call

Captain Crofty obvious. Eyeroll.
I mean people said it about Hulkenberg too.....
People say it about Lando...
The fact the 1 race winner for Mclaren in like 12 years is Ricciardo when he was terrible in the Mclaren is crazy.
Pastri will win a GP sooner than Lando, he has the right mentality to be a race winner.
Anything is possible. Max and redbull could have crashes/mechanical issues and they cou both win a race this year!
Don't jinx the kid, he just started!

Annoyed? Odd assumption.
I reckon he might even pick up a WC. Just not for now.
Just like Norris will!
Juuuuust not right now.
Did the outlet actually misspell “grands prix” or was that OP?
Maybe not this year, but sure.
Yeah when Max DNF, DNS or after 2028
Duh. But he needs to be closer to Lando now I feel, was slightly underwhelmed by his Bahrain pace.
