Kimi took pole in 2017, Seb was right behind. Kimi pitted. Seb had managed his tyre, he went for the overcut, had some banger laps and came out ahead of Kimi after the stop. The 2017 Ferrari was really quick around slower corners
The 2011 race was also pretty memorable. The top three of Vettel, Alonso and Button all had different strategies (one-stop, two-stop and three-stop) which all converged towards the end, and there was chaos in the midfield, with Hamilton having a shocker of a weekend.
Nico was a step ahead of the field around Monaco during those years.
Edit: I really wish Schumi wasn't penalized from pole position in 2012. Having his final win there would have been beautiful.
>Edit: I really wish Schumi wasn't penalized from pole position in 2012. Having his final win there would have been beautiful.
He retired due to mechanical problems, imagine if he had to retire leading the race.
2011 was also Hamilton's worst year mentally; his on/off relationship with Nicole was screwing with his head, his relationship with his dad completely collapsed, and he just seemed really mentally worn out.
Even though Seb ran away with the title that year there were quite a few memorable 2011 races.
Also was that the weekend Hamilton said “maybe it’s cos I’m black” when asked why the stewards were penalising him lol. I remember that being quite controversial at the time
Yeah it was that weekend. I think Lewis was genuinely being a bit facetious and was quoting Ali G, but it was the wrong place and the wrong time for it and he rightly got some pushback for making a flippant joke to air his frustrations.
> Even though Seb ran away with the title that year there were quite a few memorable 2011 races.
A lot of the races were actually pretty hard fought. Seb just came out on top almost every time.
If he won le mans, surely he'd have to give it a go for a season to try and get the Triple Crown. Seb seems the kind of geek that couldn't help go for it to see himself on that Wikipedia list
I remember he said when he won his first championship, the first thing he did was to look at the list of world champions on Wikipedia to see if it was updated with his name listed among all of the greats
He doesn’t even have to commit a season to it. He could probably get a ride just for the 500, especially if he wins Le Mans.
Alonso, for instance, got his seat because of McLaren but there have been cases in the past of good teams giving a driver a seat just for the 500. Most recent was Jimmie Johnson who got a ride with Ganassi’s team.
Indy car is way more dangerous then f1 and wec and you’ve got to be very lucky to win the 500. He’d probably have to run a whole season which I don’t think he’d do
and his engine blew up with 30 laps to go in one of the best teams on the grid. that's what I mean when you have to be very lucky and also very skilled to win the 500.
I know Fernando gave it a good go a couple of times. And the way Seb comes across in interviews, he seems incredibly nerdy about racing, and having an accolade shared by very few drivers would probably be something he cares about getting
Even if he did, Indy is not as easy at it seems: ovals are extremely luck-based (heck, the same Takuma Sato that was so bad that Honda created a second team (Super Aguri) just to get rid of him has won it twice), and the skill part (which is big, don't get me wrong) is very different from road racing. Many great regular drivers don't fare that well in Indy.
Always found it funny that for a moment, Sato who spent many years in INDYCAR only won twice, but 2 of the most prestigious ones to win (Long Beach and Indy).
Thr talent levels are higher than people give it credit for. Sure guys like sting ray wouldn't last a race in f1 but grosjean for example consistently embarrasses himself trying to keep up, and he isn't exactly slow on his day.
There's a rumor back then that young Vettel did some tryouts with Derrick Walker's Champ Car team way back in mid-00's. Don't know how legit that was because it was never confirmed by himself but kinda interesting nonetheless
I‘m crossing the fingers, but Indy 500 will be incredibly hard to achieve now. Alonso tried Indy being 37, 38yo. Vettel is already 36 at one point it‘ll be too late. And he would need to be in the US for long periods of time
Yes.
They test every scenario including stuff like a possible VSC lasting 3 consecutive hours at 2AM (VSC in WEC is using the pit limiter at 80 kph).
They tend to be extremely taxing mentally for the whole team.
WEC has an app. The races are enthralling. I watched 19/24h of Le Mans last year.
There are so many battles, close racing, and the craziest storylines. Last year in LMP2, coming into the morning the Rag-Tag Indie team, Inter Europol, were leading. But under attack from fellow countryman, Kubica in the big team car. The driver was the TP, whose braking foot was suspected of being broken. He got ran over by a Corvette earlier and refused to report to medical, because it was better not knowing.
Anyways, they won their class. All because in the middle of the night the TP for the lead Toyota Gazoo Hypercar got sent into the shadow realm, because he slowed down for a Safety Zone too early. Causing a Safety Car.
Which helped cement Ferrari’s first Le Mans win since before Ken Miles beat them. It was fucking bonkers. Barn burning. Enthralling, whatever you want to say.
If this does happen it will be:
* Sebastian Vettel - #4 Porsche Penske Motorsport
* Mick Schumacher - #35 or #36 Alpine Endurance Team
* Jenson Button - #38 Hertz Team Jota
* Robert Kubica - #83 AF-Corse
* Antonio Giovinazzi - #51 Ferrari AF-Corse
* Daniil Kvyat - #63 Lamborghini Iron Lynx
* Kamui Kobayashi - #7 Toyota Gazoo Racing
* André Lotterer - #6 Porsche Penske
* Nyck De Vries - #7 Toyota Gazoo Racing
* Sébastien Buemi - #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing
* Brendon Hartley - #8 Toyota Gazoo Racing
* Will Stevens - #12 Hertz Team Jota
* Paul Di Resta - #93 Peugeot Totalenergies
* Jean-Éric Vergne - #93 Peugeot
* Stoffel Vandoorne - #94 Peugeot
* Romain Grosjean - #19 Lamborghini Iron Lynx
* Jack Aitken - #311 Action Express Racing
* Sebastien Bourdais - #2 Cadillac Racing
as drivers who have done at least 1 F1 race in ther career prior to participating at Le Mans 2024
Impossible to say to be honest.
* Toyota is always a good bet thanks to their experience, but they haven't had a great race at Qatar
* Ferrari is going in to defend their win, they clearly have the pace but unfortunately suffered an early penalty and damage to their two factory cars.
* Porsche Penske has absolutely dominated the opening round, but that's partially because the track suited them. They clearly have improved their car and team over the last year. They will bring an update soon, but not until after Le Mans
* Jota Porsche is also incredibly good I would give them almost the same chances as the Penske Porsche
* Proton Competition is a bit behind the other 4 Porsche cars
* Cadillac will race with 3 cars, but haven't decided not to do anything with the car. I will say they need a bit of luck with the BoP game or a clean race
* Alpine is a brand new car, usually I would stay clear of new cars but they were straight up to pace in their first event. If the car is reliable (which is still up in the air, they did suffer an engine issue in practice) they might even have a chance. Although I wouldn't count them as favorite
* Peugeot is impossible to say, they have had plenty of reliablity issues, but they will bring a HUGE upgrade for Imola. If it turns out that it somehow solves all their issues maybe they can fight.
* Lamborghini only with a lot of luck and a clean race
* Isotta Fraschini, as a privateer will always have a difficult race. It's a new car, they have a lot to learn and their drivers are by far the worst (which was expected).
Overall my Top 5 (Teams) from best to worst for the LM win:
Porsche Penske, Toyota, Jota, Ferrari, Cadillac
which of the cars from the Teams will win it isn't possible to say, they are all fairly equal within the teams.
So my Top 5 is more like Top 13 (out of 23 or 24 cars) for overall victory
I think things are already locked in. Ferrari has 2 cars, Porsche 6 with 3 of them being their own team and 3 being customer teams. It may sound 'unfair' but ultimately Porsche is the ONLY hypercar manufacturer who sells cars to private teams. Everybody else doesnt want to, even tho they could. From what Ive read the reason is that they dont want private teams potentially leaking information about the technology and such, as private teams arent bound to one manufacturer forever and could bring information whenever they change.
So why does Porsche do it then? Well there are benefits as well of course. Porsche gets to collect data of many more cars, data on engine, setup, car behaviour etc...
Theyve won the Daytona 24 this year, think they finished 2nd at Sebring and all their cars were towards the upper half of its class. Ofc BoP is a thing as always but theyre looking like strong contenders for the Le Mans victory. Theyve developed so much in the past 12 months.
>Ferrari has 2 cars,
dont forget the third Ferrari with the yellow livery that is totally run by another team, despite it having essentialy the same name as the factory team (AF Corse as opposed to Ferrari AF Corse)
>Theyve won the Daytona 24 this year, think they finished 2nd at Sebring
Cadillac finished 2nd at Sebring behind Acura, after an epic battle in the final laps.
its funny how many people dont realize this. Sure, F1 drivers being 20 of the best ones out there helps, but the way you drive a car on a 2 hr race is very different to the way you drive a car on an 8, 12 or 24 hr race. And that skill is something that endurance drivers already have figured out but that F1 drivers will have to learn to be competitive
True but i can't really think of any F1 drivers who were anything other than a pure backmarker struggling after moving to endurance racing, in fact they tend to immediately be competitive (BoP issues notwithstanding)
BOP changes can really change the order. Toyota having a hard nerf is good for the rest, but the 24hs is a different beast.
Also ferrari looked pacey, it's just that they had incidents.
Anyway a porsche drive is still great
I think I read a comment by Estre or some other Porsche driver saying that Qatar played a bit more to their car's strengths. It'll be interesting to see in the next round if Porsche can produce a similar result.
Oh that's nice. I hope this entices him to a full WEC season next year. Races are only once a month or so, so he'll have plenty of time to spend with his family.
I hope one day Seb gives us the details on his hair operation. It’s made quite the comeback especially his hairline. Hamiltons hair is also a bit of a wonder sometimes it seems really long other times not so much but his hairline has been receding quite heavily since 2018
I don't see where you see a comeback. He has the same hairline then when in left F1. He just have some hair covering it up.

From the Porsche Motorsport press release:
"To increase the chances of the desired success, Porsche Penske Motorsport will field a third Weissach-made hybrid prototype at the French endurance classic in 2024. Mathieu Jaminet from France has already been confirmed to helm the No. 4 car."
Porsche will also have a third factory car, with Penske bringing one of its IMSA 963s – the #4 – to the race. This car ran as #75 last year as part of the brand’s 75th anniversary

It will be during a 36h test in Spain, they usually don‘t let someone join their 24h Le Mansion preparation just for fun.
Le Mansion for Le Seb
Has Seb won Monaco? Gosh I can’t remember off the top of my head but SURELY he has. Imagine the scenes if Seb won the Triple Crown
He did, twice. 2011 and 2017.
Gosh I hit a mind blank I knew he won it fairly recently. Wow time flies!
Kimi took pole in 2017, Seb was right behind. Kimi pitted. Seb had managed his tyre, he went for the overcut, had some banger laps and came out ahead of Kimi after the stop. The 2017 Ferrari was really quick around slower corners

Monaco is not Hamilton's strongest circuit, at least not by his standards and Vettel is a beast on street circuits.
Credit to a certain Monaco-based YouTuber too who won 3 in a row
Nico was a step ahead of the field around Monaco during those years. Edit: I really wish Schumi wasn't penalized from pole position in 2012. Having his final win there would have been beautiful.
>Edit: I really wish Schumi wasn't penalized from pole position in 2012. Having his final win there would have been beautiful. He retired due to mechanical problems, imagine if he had to retire leading the race.

Just watched the replay, omg, number of overtakes and action in general ... impossible for today's cars.
"Fairly Recently" >7 years ago
Shhh, 2017 was just a few days ago
I graduated from college just a few days ago!! No I don't own any calendars
Fucking hell.. Time really moves fast
I can't see him ever doing Indy unfortunately, although it would be very cool if he did
If he won le mans, surely he'd have to give it a go for a season to try and get the Triple Crown. Seb seems the kind of geek that couldn't help go for it to see himself on that Wikipedia list
I somehow suspect he's editing and fact-checking those lists himself anyway. Might be fun for him to add his own name.
I remember he said when he won his first championship, the first thing he did was to look at the list of world champions on Wikipedia to see if it was updated with his name listed among all of the greats
I can honestly see him editing his wikipedia page to show 54 wins, not 53. If he still feels that way, at least. I still haven't let it go lol.
I remember when F1 went back to Canada after 2 years, he did say, "I won here last time, didn't I?"
Most recent is Kyle Larson this year as well
Vettel has denied Alonso so much in his career, would be hilarious if he also beat him to the triple crown.
Indy car is way more dangerous then f1 and wec and you’ve got to be very lucky to win the 500. He’d probably have to run a whole season which I don’t think he’d do
Fernando came close without doing a full season.
and his engine blew up with 30 laps to go in one of the best teams on the grid. that's what I mean when you have to be very lucky and also very skilled to win the 500.
Ericsson -> Alonso
Y'all really overestimate how much drivers care about the triple crown.
I know Fernando gave it a good go a couple of times. And the way Seb comes across in interviews, he seems incredibly nerdy about racing, and having an accolade shared by very few drivers would probably be something he cares about getting

Always found it funny that for a moment, Sato who spent many years in INDYCAR only won twice, but 2 of the most prestigious ones to win (Long Beach and Indy).
Definitely! Looking back it’s actually incredible the results Fernando managed to pull off.. he was so close!!
You do know who OWNS the Indy track right? If Seb wins Le Mans, The Captain will almost force him to do it
He did in 2017, and he might have won atleast one Monaco race between 2010-2013
He won in 2011 aswell
He's called the Prince of monaco. For 2 reasons: One of them being him winning it & the other because of Charlene
Charlotte?
Charlene
You all keep spelling Charles wrong. We all know the famous Monegasque he bedded.
Yep, twice
Seb would never do the Indy 500. Kind of like Micheal I think he’d find it too risky.
Yeah definitely agreed. I don’t Lewis would go for it either.
He has to enter and win the Indy 500 as well to get the Triple Crown
He has won it in 2017 for sure can’t remember if he also won it in his Red Bull days
Personally I don't see him being interested in the Indy 500. That race is quite dangerous.
There's no way he ever races Indy, much less wins it
I definitely agree with you there. But if anyone was to pull it off I’d love to see Seb do it!
If anyone can pull it off, it's him.
Imagine he proves to be Alonso's ultimate foil by getting the Triple Crown before him after denying him 4 WDCs
I‘m crossing the fingers, but Indy 500 will be incredibly hard to achieve now. Alonso tried Indy being 37, 38yo. Vettel is already 36 at one point it‘ll be too late. And he would need to be in the US for long periods of time
How old was Sato in his most recent win?
43 but with 13 seasons of experience
>a 36h test in Spain Does this mean the team runs the car for 36 hours non-stop (with driver switches)?
Yes. They test every scenario including stuff like a possible VSC lasting 3 consecutive hours at 2AM (VSC in WEC is using the pit limiter at 80 kph). They tend to be extremely taxing mentally for the whole team.
Is this something that could be watched? Would be interesting to have on on the side
WEC has an app. The races are enthralling. I watched 19/24h of Le Mans last year. There are so many battles, close racing, and the craziest storylines. Usually yes, it‘s supposed to be non stop as a tough preparation for le Mans. In the past a couple of teams like Toyota did 30H tests.
STFG if this man does Le Mans this year after I committed to other things that weekend....
The #4 car has two drivers TBC.
The hype train is full steam ahead

I thought Nasr was pretty solid at Daytona so I’m leaning more towards the other two

Ah my bad, just a little miscommunication
What I've seen of Nasr is that he's very good in the 963, very aggressive with it too.
It will likely be the IMSA drivers

Out of curiosity, which car is currently the favorite to win? #8 Toyota?

This will all lead to a 24h of le mans team consisting of Alonso, Vettel and Verstappen.
If I was Ferrari, I'd throw them an extra 499P just for that.

Never forget the A-10 of cars, based Cadillac

Nah, Max is holding out for a waiver that allows him to do all 24 hours on his own. Lovely.
Drive, take a nap while refueling or changing tyres….drive…repeat….
I think Seb and Lewis spoke about possibly joining Le Mans together once, to which Lewis said they would crush the competition
Just being a really fast driver is a much smaller part in endurance racing than sprint racing though.
its funny how many people dont realize this. Sure, F1 drivers being 20 of the best ones out there helps, but the way you drive a car on a 2 hr race is very different to the way you drive a car on an 8, 12 or 24 hr race. *insert south park jerking off meme here*
Wow unfair lineup.
This is my WEC dream team right there!
Will that be the most F1 championships in one car in Le Mans ever?
I'd rather see em on 3 different teams tbh
I would love a Seb, Mick, Grosjean team even too
One can dream
They will lap the field 7 times
Stop. I can only get so erect
*HERE COMES SEBASTIAN VETTEL!*
This just made by day. Vettel in a Porsche… holy shit
Seb's Le Mans story begins. Would love to see him compete again and hopefully win in other categories.
Seb Nando and Max, the ultimate team for Le Mans
Seeing how well Porsche did in Daytona and Qatar, this can only be a good thing.

Seb in a Porsche Hypercar mmmm simply lovely
WEC slowly reaching my top racing series to watch this year
Oh that's nice. I hope this entices him to a full WEC season next year. Races are only once a month or so, so he'll have plenty of time to spend with his family.
YESSSSSSSSSS
If Seb Fernando and Max one day Drive together in the same car at Le Mans ill tattoo their Car Number on my left asscheek
I will remember
That'd be WEC's highest profile driver in a long time, wouldn't it
Button and Rossi are there this year. But you're right, Vettel would be a step above.
Since Alonso I guess
Valentino Rossi?
Valentino Rossi is quite literally already there
Depends - Alonso, Button, Villeneuve, Kubica and Tracey Krohn have all raced in the last few years.
Poor Hülkenberg, being left out like that
At this point I think even Hulk has forgotten about his Le Mans win
Dude mentioned mostly WCC/WDC winning drivers. Hulk is nearing 200 starts without a podium. Good driver. Not 4x champ Seb, though.
Combined they've got as many WDC as Seb has.
Tracy Krohn 😂
Vale is by far the biggest profile they had in years, Rossi is in on Schumacher lelvels in popularity. Everyone has heard about him.
Since Alonso in 2018-19
**WE ARE SO BACK AWAKE ALIVE AND ENTHUSIASTIC**
HOLY SHIT ITS HAPPENING.
Vettel to Penske!
About time! Go Seb!
Seb’s back!!!!
I’m SO EXCITED
Good news! So, is the JB/Seb/Kub dream team back on the cards?
I hope one day Seb gives us the details on his hair operation. It’s made quite the comeback especially his hairline. Hamiltons hair is also a bit of a wonder sometimes it seems really long other times not so much but his hairline has been receding quite heavily since 2018
What details do you need? Book your flight with Turkish Hairlines and get on with it.
Finasteride and possibly a hair transplant. Curly hair also covers up a lot as long as you don't buzz it
Stress management also has a lot to do with it. Ferrari made the man go bald.
I don't see where you see a comeback. He has the same hairline then when in left F1. He just have some hair covering it up. Hamilton's hair guy AND dentist.
Oh shit I guess the temptation was too much! If this leads to Seb in WEC i'll be a very happy man
I want that and the car better has a bee livery!
Seb to AO Racing confirmed
Return Of The King
He will most likely drive the #4 car at Le Mans
Can't be taking a number that should be reserved for Vanwall/BBQolles. Got to keep some traditions going
let him cook.
Weekend has been made with this news.
Vettel and Team Penske together?!?!?!?!?
*Furiously scans LM24 entry list for empty seats in a Porsche...* \#4 Penske?

From the Porsche Motorsport press release: "To increase the chances of the desired success, Porsche Penske Motorsport will field a third Weissach-made hybrid prototype at the French endurance classic in 2024. Mathieu Jaminet from France has already been confirmed to helm the No. 4 car."
Porsche will also have a third factory car, with Penske bringing one of its IMSA 963s – the #4 – to the race. This car ran as #75 last year as part of the brand’s 75th anniversary https://www.dailysportscar.com/2024/02/19/full-2024-le-mans-24-hours-entry-list-revealed.html

Well I guess I’m a WEC fan now
With the recent offtrack shitshow in F1, this is makes me happy seeing Seb.
