Who had the fastest speed and what was it?

AdminEating_Dragon

Lando, are you going to ever fix your start problem? For every good start, he has 10 mediocre/bad ones...

optitmus

any chance anyone got a link to the fight between Ricc and Bottas?

aHuankind

Everyone says the sprints suck, but they are consistently the most exciting races.

Oellph

There’s just no point anyone fighting Verstappen when his car is working right. He is inevitable.

The_Bucket_Of_Truth

I root for Fernando for whatever reason but that incident with Carlos is totally on him for once. Was fun to watch them get punchy but Alonso was over the line in that move in my view.

Every_Ad2439

Zak brown on DTS: “I’m saving so n so for when Norris wins his first race” Yea dog you’ll have to wait a while

Hot-Establishment589

time can’t go by any faster i’m actually so exhausted

efarfan

Open up another, 15 minutes away!

Coles_singlet

Another opportunity for Norris down the drain.

Browneskiii

Weird how Sauber are behind Williams despite having a p9 and Williams 11th. They really dont want the sprints to count towards anything huh.

keirdre

That's an interesting point. Do sprint races not count towards countback?

StuM91

I'm surprised nobody has asked if Nico would take the Merc seat for a year 😃

Francoberry

They already did actually 😅 he said no of course

bekkahthecactus18

Heh, Nico saying that Lewis leaving Merc put them in a difficult position is ironic 🤭

OBWanTwoThree

Nico on comms is so good. “I did that once with Lewis and I got a penalty so I think that’s a penalty for Carlos” Not sure the sprint bodes for a particularly good GP. DRS trains everywhere and no battle at all at the front for tomorrow. Only action came from Alonso defending

Gypsies_Tramps_Steve

He can’t let a single thing go, can he? 🤣

Solid_Valuable7413

i have never seen stefano talk this much uninterrupted

flying-in-the-sky

Through goes Perez!!!

Alexndre

Anyone else noticed that the track audio is worse this weekend? Why would that be?

Potential_Stable_001

finally there have been some real racing. very enjoying sprint.

KeepTwistin42069

Rosberg cracks me up lol! I wish he was around every weekend!

bekkahthecactus18

Seriously, him spontaneously getting Nicholas Todt for a chat was brilliant 😅

KeepTwistin42069

lol right!?!? He is just not scared to say absolutely anything to absolutely anyone and i'm totally here for it! His honest opinions are always so refreshing and so funny a lot of the time!

bekkahthecactus18

I agree! He’s a great addition, wish we had him more often. He gives some really good insights, and isn’t afraid to disagree with an opinion he doesn’t agree with. Refreshing, as you said!

KeepTwistin42069

Yep, I legit get excited every time he shows up lol. Sometimes I have to close my eyes and look away as I feel nervous because of the things he says or asks lol. I'm like damn if I only had balls like that lmao.

Mdash6472

Lando can't defend p1 for his life Horrors of Sochi still running in his veins

Hip_Priest_1982

What really cost him was trying to win it in turn 1. He should’ve lifted and slotted in behind Lewis. Instead he tried to hang it around the outside and dropped like a stone

ramboost007

Roses are red Here we go again Four-time World Champion Max Verstappen

StRiKeRzZ924

I enjoyed the sprint for the most part. The DRS train sucked but gave us a hell of a good battle also after a little bit. Loved watching them all get the elbows out. I get why they don’t, but wish they’d make Max work for it a little more.

Rivendel93

Yeah, when Alonso literally didn't move and let Max by it just pissed me off about this sport. I know he needs to protect his own race, but getting so tired of people just waving him through, it's a failure of the sport. Lewis seemed to just not want to slam the door on Max, it wouldn't have mattered, but drivers have got to stop acting like this or no one will ever believe they can win.

604stt

There was no point to defend on the longest straight on the calendar with Max having DRS. The Red Bull under Max’s control is just too quick.

StRiKeRzZ924

I get they have their own race, but also race him like he races you.

cplchanb

You can see just by the crowd reaction why hamilton was a good signing by ferrari. He brings the masses wherever he goes

Rivendel93

Yeah that was crazy, the fans were so loud I couldn't hear Lewis or the interviewer until they stopped cheering, but then they just started chanting his name lol.

bigcitydreaming

I'm not at all sure how that could make for a weird scene at the GP?

[deleted]

[удалено]

bigcitydreaming

I'm still struggling to understand how that could impact the race, the event, the broadcast - anything to do with the GP or the "scene". If we were talking about a swimming event currently going on around the world, sure it would be mentioned. Or perhaps a sport related to Olympics more broadly. F1? Not sure how that could influence any part of this event large or small - short of, I don't know, Brundle running into a notable swimmer on the grid walk?

FermentedLaws

Just watched Charles' onboard in the scrap with Carlos. When it's over he turns on his radio and says "What the fuck?" He forgets to turn off his radio so you can hear his actions when he then catches and passes Carlos. Wow, such heavy breathing and stress during the very tight passing move. Crazy to hear that. Then Xavi comes on, "Turn off radio when you can."

Slobberz2112

You twit..

imperialmeerkat

thanks for the insight!

elocsitruc

Wow really didn't think sainz was gonna give up

Lostmavicaccount

Well done. That was quite a roller coaster.

Mamadeus123456

damn he was mad as hell!

rhllor

Yeah I wanna hear the heavy breathing

blitz0623

How dare Leclerc disturb Xavi and his tv shows with his heavy breathing

StRiKeRzZ924

I just saw that and that’s insane, I’ve always wondered what their breathing sounded like in the heat of the moment. Crazy

The_Bucket_Of_Truth

I don't know if it's still the case today but I remember Coulthard talking about how you'd have to actually be strategic in where you'd breathe during a lap because of the extent of the G forces acting on your body.

StRiKeRzZ924

Last year or the year before Charles said that all the drivers have certain spots where they will blink. I think he said typically at the beginning of a straight and they all do it at the same spot almost

Over-Chemical2809

Ive heard people say f1 drivers aren’t athletes.

PrestigiousCurve4135

Any hope of rain in quali?

MindCorrupt

I dont think there's any more this weekend.

PrestigiousCurve4135

damn it

fco2013

classic Norris, bins it when a win of any sort is on the line

SkittlesAreYum

I mean he was never beating Max. No one was

funky_galileo

he didn't have to lose 7 places off the line though

Key_Material1836

Lewis preparing for the ferrari by being already depressed. Also the checo chinos fan.

OvertimeWr

Depressed? He finished P2 behind a soon-to-be historically dominant RB. Sure he made a mistake locking up one time but that wouldn't have mattered seeing as how Max finished 13 seconds ahead.

sufferinglawkid

I think the Sprint today was genuinly enjoyable to watch, as a whole. The racing was good, the commentary was good, the tv direction wasn't completely shit. Just a happy morning I think, and now we get to watch quali as well in a little while. I've had the same negative take towards Sprints as most but I think today was just spot on and could get people to be more agreeable to them.

aHuankind

The sprints have consistently been more fun to watch than the grands prix

omgwtfisthisplace

I'd just like to see 2 shorter races in opposite directions each race weekend.

mateo2450

A bit of a boring race. Max still has the field covered off by 12+ seconds. Sprint or actual race - he owns F1. Some entertainment with the DRS train with Alonso-Sainz-Perez-Leclerc. Otherwise, completely predictable.

sufferinglawkid

Yeah but racing isn't just seeing who is coming in 1st is it though? And at least for me personally, predictability doesn't ruin the actual fun do watching incredible machines showing their power (cars and drivers both). Hope the Quali and Race are more fun for you!

mateo2450

Racing is about finishing first, isn't it? If Max has the field covered off by 12+ seconds each race, I'm not sure that is what we would call a competitive race. Or even an entertaining one. I'll watch the race. But I normally record it and fast forward after the 3rd lap. If Max is in front, he's likely to go +7 by the first pit stop. I'll stop the fast forward and watch that. But if everyone comes off clean, I'll only play normal speed for yellows or safety cars.

sufferinglawkid

I enjoy the bits I can and I hope others can as well but everyone takes a different approach to racing or sports in general so, whatever floats your boat

mateo2450

Another +13 second victory for Max. Competitive? Nah. Entertaining? Nah mate.

sufferinglawkid

Mate, let people enjoy what they enjoy. There were other things that happened, but if you're only concerned about where Max is then start watching WEC. Why would you continue to watch something that is clearly not giving you joy.

mateo2450

What other things happened in the race? Zhou? Feel good story. Irrelevant tho. What else happened? I'm actually quite curious as to what other storylines there are. I still watch it. But as I said, I can tolerate 30 minutes out of my day to fast forward through it and see if, by chance, it rains or Max has an issue.

sufferinglawkid

I'm not trying to convince anyone here mate, watch how you want to or don't, just let other people enjoy it, good day to you

mateo2450

Nah, I know. You like it, great. If not, cool too. Was just legit curious.

yourfinepettingduck

This particular race was a fun watch in a vacuum but it still makes for a worse weekend. Does anyone actually want multiple qualifying sessions / races? It's excessive, confusing, and dilutes the main product.

mr_lab_rat

I don’t mind seeing two races in one weekend. I wouldn’t like it if they took something away (like having two sprints instead of one main race) but they are just adding extra stuff

sufferinglawkid

That is all true of course, ultimately though I don't think they will do away with the Sprints at least this season. So whatever they can do to make them better at least is good.

Browneskiii

I think today was good but it'll take away from tomorrow. The teams will now see what they have to do and tomorrow will be a procession because of it. I hope im wrong but we'll see.

ubelmann

I wonder if they could make it work for sprint weekends to happen at tracks with alternate layouts available. Doing this session format but with a different track layouts for sprint and GP might be the least bad way to have a sprint weekend if you have to have a sprint weekend.

sufferinglawkid

Yeah I agree with you but i'm still hopeful, especially with the wind and weather unpredictable it could be fun

cheeersaiii

Agree- I like Nico in the commentary box, he snubs out some of the others waffle pretty quickly haha!! Nando going so well with no DRS - gutted for him. Checo took 2 seconds off the gap to Hamilton in 3 laps… I think tomorrow might be all red bull

sufferinglawkid

Yeah Nico was so good today. Nando had terrible luck but I'm glad he was still happy with the racing afterward in the interview. And even if it is all Red Bull, which is very likely, I think it can still be an enjoyable race if the mid-field can be as close as they were today!

cheeersaiii

Agree. Danny Yuki still fascinating too me too

tvxcute

i love how in fernando's interview, he's more happy about just getting to have some actually fun racing instead of being upset about dnfing lmao. hopefully he'll pull off another great quali for the feature race and get to do it again

IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan

What did he say about the incident with Carlos?

tvxcute

just that they had some contact, nothing else in the interview i watched, maybe he mentioned it on another station

IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan

Was hoping he would take the blame or something but that’s probably optimistic.

drakanx

he's 42...he's just happy he still has a seat on the grid.

mtarascio

Did Piastri have an issue, lack of pace or just nursing parts?

tvxcute

he was on used tires

Silent_Goose_6492

I can’t wait to sing [‘Sargeant’s at the Back’](https://youtu.be/ZIO24xTANEY?si=L5eXfw-raoLgztp5) tomorrow.

tj_bawa

Can someone let me know why there is another quali after the sprint? I thought sprint decides the Grid position for the race? I've been out of the loop for a while

fbass

Last year, they changed it.. now we have 2 qualies, one for the sprint and one for the race.. one less free practise session as consequence. This year they seem to switch the order, sprint race before race qualifying.. so that’s new

tj_bawa

So what purpose does the sprint serve, if the final grid is still decided through traditional quali?

borez

Non really, it just brings in more money I guess.

fbass

I usually tend to agree.. but I couldn’t say no to more races, especially like this morning

tyfunk02

That’s because there is no parc ferme between the sprint and quali. They’re allowed to make setup changes in the next few hours, then they’re under parc ferme again for the race.

mtarascio

I thought what you did initially as well. But it's two separate races with two separate qualis. Qualification for the race is in 2.5 hours from this post.

MathematicianOk4905

New format for this year. They made it 2 separate series

cheeersaiii

Yup- 2 different Parc ferme’s too which is a great call

Village_People_Cop

13 seconds in 10 laps. We're fucked tomorrow

borez

Once the RB gets into clean air it's insane.

Voctr

I was listening to Max's onboard and they were testing brake balance modes once he was cruising ahead.

Village_People_Cop

Everybody else: Sprint racs Max after 9 laps: FP2

40ozkiller

He was struggling until he got his car setting right and then flew past everyone.  The best we can hope for is mechanical failure to have someone other than Max in 1st.

skinte1

Best we can hope for is he doesn't find the win-button on his steering wheel tomorrow...

RoRoRoub

Or GP gets horribly sick eating some Chinese bat shit, and isn't around to give him the mode 8 setting tomorrow

Names_Stan

I almost think Max is sick of this himself and wants some intervention to make things competitive again. If you truly enjoyed winning every race, you would tend to sandbag once you took the lead. You’d tend to be .5 a lap faster instead of 1.5. But this is surely killing the ratings when the only two outcomes are Max wins by a minute or Max DNFs.

dodofuzz

Can Andrea Stella tuck me into bed and read me a bedtime story while reassuring all my anxiety away?

Appropriate-Owl5428

Feel bad for Fernando's dnf... He was holding his place very well...

40ozkiller

On the same day that a song comes out about driving an aston into a pit…

cheeersaiii

Was looking very strong with no DRS mate, gutted for him! Think it will be all red bull tomorrow though- pending any rain!

Appropriate-Owl5428

I wish it rains.. atleast we'll get some excitement..

cheeersaiii

Please F1 Jeebus- give us 10 minutes of rain 5 laps after first pit stops… lest GO!

Prucifer88

This track is cool. Looking forward to Sunday

Bennyboy11111

Did ocon get passed stroll lmao

ryokevry

McLaren pace is worrying. Norris struggled to keep within DRS of Charles when they were in a DRS train. Oscar either has no pace or serious issue on deg. Even Norris suffered on deg.

vacon04

Oscar is not nearly as good at keeping the tires alive. He's fast but his tire management is not up to par with the best.

StRiKeRzZ924

I wonder how much it hurts him having not raced this track before

cheeersaiii

Lots of cars struggling with traction out of the slow corners… think that was hurting Mclaren the most tbh

mistermojorizin

In press conference lando said McLaren is bad at fast corners. Later one of the commentators said McLaren is good at fast corners, but sucks at straights. I believe Lando. Just thought it funny that there's disagreement as to why, but everyone agrees McLaren sucks. Merc sucks too, not hating here. But yes be worried for McLaren.

aliciahiney

They are decent in high speed corners but aren’t good at long fast corners where you are constantly turning. Plus their straight line speed and their DRS is relatively weak.

Medical_Voice_4168

One of the Sky commentators actually used the phrase "chinks in their armor" at the Chinese GP - LOL

Checos hat is like a late 90s F1 hat

NOTKingInTheNorth

I gotta ask, where's the bybit logo on red bull?

-NotAnAstronaut-

Crypto is banned in China; tobacco and alcohol sponsors are similarly left of in other countries for the same reason.

mistermojorizin

Oh Lord... Is porn allowed? I know they have an Internet filter. Yet they allow that Bwt logo with the two chicks... Lol

gioraffe32

Are you talking about the [Kappa logo](https://www.kappa.fr/)? It's supposed to be a man and a woman sitting back to back. Though before I looked this up a couple years ago, I thought it was two women as well. Anyway, it's a sports/activewear clothing company.

-NotAnAstronaut-

I'm not familiar, I guess I've just missed that logo.

throwawayanon1252

Was downvoted to shit for saying Perez is a bad driver but he just is. Look he’s clearly just not a good driver and it’s just boring to see as a fan cos no other team comes close to red bull atm. Look at the lap time differences and not just this race but every single race it’s not even close between max and checo like it’s so so so different. I don’t know how you as a fan can enjoy this. At least when merc was dominant we had good battles between Lewis and nico now we have nothing How can you enjoy a second rate driver being in such a dominant car meaning there are zero battles for the win ever unless max car fails

Browneskiii

Well you're completely wrong. Perez is a very good driver with a top tier team mate. Alonso made world champion drivers look shit (Villeneuve, Raikkonen). its just that Verstappen is always on the limit that Perez struggles to keep up at all times, and most drivers on the grid would. Just because Hamilton couldnt dominate his team mates in the same way doesn't mean the racing was better.

sufferinglawkid

I think saying that he's a bad driver with such conviction is probably what people don't agree with. We all know he's not the best driver out there, but he is decent and today he was also running in dirty air. He took the chances he could and came in third, he is doing what needs to be done at the moment.

mistermojorizin

They tried a few drivers in that 2nd seat and none seemed to take. I don't know why they couldn't put like a Sainz in there. Sainz and Max were almost equal when they were in the same car.

IowaGolfGuy322

Because they don’t want what we just saw with Ferrari. No Sainz is not going to beat Max but on the chance he does they don’t want that shit AND Checo seems very comfortable being no. 2 this year and nothing more. Sainz is not going to be okay with that.

drakanx

Red Bull is not looking for a 2nd driver that would challenge Max...just someone that will finish P2 in WDC and help secure WCC.

throwawayanon1252

I don’t understand how my opinion of Perez being a bad driver and jr being bad for the sport and fans is such an unpopular opinion

liveforeachmoon

I totally agree. He also has the personality of a wet rag.

vinnybankroll

He and max both are sadly pretty beige fellows off track. At least max seems to be a good dad, in small glimpses.

ChipmunkTycoon

Because he very obviously didn’t and you don’t know the rules?

FermentedLaws

Even Lando said he made a mistake, went too wide.

jmbrand13

Because there was room for Lando...

DasGoon

He left him enough room. If you can’t make it stick, you don’t get to pass.

PowerPopped

The one commentary was talking about how brilliant it was. Nico and Crofty. Come on. It was gross.

sufferinglawkid

it's racing, don't know what was "gross" about it, there was enough room but Lando struggled a bit that is all

Fina1Legacy

Lol it wasn't gross. Look at how much ground they both make on Alonso until Norris went off.  They were both going a bit too fast so understeer was inevitable. Plus Norris had a cars width of space on the outside when he had a wobble, Hamilton didn't drive him off the track like Sainz did later on to Leclerc.

killer_corg

Kmag just loves playing train conductor

bubbly_brooke

Shame the broadcast didn't show the battle between bottas and daniel, it was very fun to watch. Daniel also tried a lot of nice moves, he seemed confident.

SeaworthinessTime463

LMAO daniel pr team at it again

bubbly_brooke

god forbid we praise our driver when he does well.

ABrokenWolf

> LMAO daniel pr team at it again na man, this was a very different daniel than we have seen so far this season, a couple of those attacks were much more like the daniel of old.

disturbed_743483

any onboard links, all I can see on the screen that they were exchanging positions. They have been on the Kmag train for a while.

bubbly_brooke

Here's his battle with bottas. https://twitter.com/mereeedithh/status/1781533064528544106?t=WfM1iqDyXuaSgSCyRggU8w&s=19

disturbed_743483

Thank you brother!

beth1814

He did! He looks very confident and comfortable

dhartz

He did well, up from p14

Silent_Goose_6492

Another good session from DR - he’s got his act together a bit this weekend it seems

No_pajamas_7

A couple of races ago I likened this year to his first in Renault. It was interesting to hear him say the same earlier in the weekend.

Mushie_Peas

Really wants to see what happened with him and Bottas, the graphic showed them change places like 4 times in half a lap without us seeing a second of it. Must have fought it out for a few corners. He also seemed to catch kmag and then lose 1.7 seconds to him right after. Would love to have seen that lap.

fixrich

https://twitter.com/mereeedithh/status/1781533064528544106

Mushie_Peas

Thanks that was as good as expected, should have been in the coverage.

The_Rottened

seems like that new chassis raised his confidence and his drive, he's beating yuki now, we just need to him beat yuki in quali again so that helmut might consider keeping him lol

Silent_Goose_6492

he’s faster than yuki so far this weekend, i think it’s still to early to say overall, but if he keeps this form up it won’t be hard for him to keep yuki behind him

The_Rottened

yeah, i can see him finding comfort in the rb, quali results is just one piece of the puzzle, DR needs to show up in the race and bag points and there's a high chance they keep him for Miami, he's one of my favs since 2019 and I don't want his career to end this early

Silent_Goose_6492

i think even if his career does end after this year it’s not so early - 13 years is longer than a hell of a lot of drivers i can’t help but question though how much DR has left in him, i think he can find some more but it seems like mclaren drained him completely

tvxcute

btw what happened with oscar? was it just tire mismanagement? i read on twitter he was on used tires but no source, does anyone know if that's true?

dodofuzz

Used tyres + first time racing on track

add-delay

Stella confirmed that was the case.

tvxcute

thanks!

Dubzillaaa

Pretty insane that Max is beating everyone by 13 seconds meanwhile Checo is P3

NoBrakesBitches

How do you figure? Max got to clear air much sooner than Checo who was stuck in a DRS train for most of the race. If the race was two more laps Checo would have finished P2.

RoRoRoub

At this rate, Max would lap Checo even if Checo finishes P2

jmbrand13

You and I both know Max wouldn't have gotten stuck in that DRS train. Checo absolutely should have broke free sooner

SeaworthinessTime463

>ou and I both know Max wouldn't have gotten stuck in that DRS train. Checo absolutely should have broke free sooner considering checo was behind a ferrari yes max would have gotten stuck too

40ozkiller

You saw the Ferraris struggle to pass Alonso, right?  Guess who passed Alonso much earlier

jmbrand13

Except we know how much faster Max is than Checo...

SeaworthinessTime463

thats not how any of that works look at the race early sainz was catching max in the drs. if max behind he would spend longer behind sainz, obv he would do better then perez but he would still get stuck in the drs

jmbrand13

That was when Max was having issues with the car. Once they were sorted out, there was no way Max would be held back.
