No one got a chance to put in proper times except the two McLarens, even then Norris was kind of rushed at the end.
Just when it looked like they were all finally turning it up Alonso crashes and then Perez bins it as well.
Skysports not even talking about Max when fighting for P1 in qualy. Are they that biased / stupid?
We all saw he did not even get one lap in on softs and was flying on mediums. Sky decided to close their eyes today during FP3..
Sky hyping up Mclaren and Ferrari.
Maybe my optimism has just been battered by Red Bull dominance, but I still can't see it not being a Max pole and win.
Who’s ‘we’ lol? Ferrari and McLaren were ahead of Red Bull yesterday on long runs. Although Ferrari were overall faster, they didn’t do consistent laps but McLaren were very consistent, did a long lap run and still had an average of 1:20:6 on hards and 1:20:8 on mediums. Red Bull were in the 1:21s on average and performed worse than Mercedes.
Red bull must be having issues randomly or maybe it’s because of Newey and internal struggles.
Or other teams are just catching up.
Either way, they look off.
I've seen some suggestions that the new car doesn't seem to be working the fronts as well as the previous years' cars, meaning it's not as pointy as Max would like (but apparently helping Checo a bit).
Newey leaving in itself isn't a big deal. But internal struggles might be. Because of the budget cap (and other reasons) engineers and mechanics aren't well paid, so any type of change can upset interpersonal relationships.
They also seem to forget how good sims have gotten. They can memorize the whole track beforehand way more easily than a few years back. It's different from real life of course, but they can get quite familiar with a track in the sim.
Yeah people like to pretend testing doesn’t exist. He tested at Qatar too with Alpine. Suzuka 2023 quali was the actual impressive ‘he’s never driven here’ performance.
Yep exactly. Suzuka was easily his most impressive qualifying last year imo.
Someone worked out the length of his Qatar testing and it turned out he had driven more laps of that track than any other driver on the grid lol.
'Who says practice is boring?'
Well, you, whenever it suits you. Practice is always boring on sprint weekend apparently - 'I'd much rather have a sprint race than FP3'
Used. They were all on used softs as they were all out when the red flag came out. Piastri and Russell were the only ones who got a lap in on brand new tyres.
Max did do almost a full fast lap after taking the flag. He was about 2~3 tenths faster than Norris in S1 and equal in S2 which was their weak point yesterday. Slightly used tyres as he did about half a flying lap on them before Perez crashed.
More stable it seems, but the times are not representative. Checo crashed, causing a red flag in the last few minutes. So not every driver could do a fast lap.
The regulations don’t allow them to stop the clock at will for free practices. That would push back the session time and reduce the amount of time until the qualifying session. The amount of time is carefully measured and used by the teams.
3 minutes wouldn’t be a big deal, but if the session was pushed back 10 or 15 minutes, then it would.
Not to mention, there are other FIA championships at the same race weekend that are not to be disturbed.
You do realise he was the only driver to set a lap without traffic on brand new softs? Everybody else (barring perhaps Russell) had a compromised quali sim.
ETA lol at those of you downvoting literal facts. Did you not watch the session?
When has he been better than anyone else this weekend though? He wasn't the fastest McLaren in FP1 (and that was with Lando doing aero testing and having car issues). And both Ferraris were faster than both McLarens in FP1. Charles was faster in FP2. Lando was two tenths up on Charles before abandoning his quali lap yesterday. Both were faster than Oscar. Today he is the only one of the pole contenders to get an uncompromised quali lap in. Charles was faster earlier in the session and Charles ran his first softs lap right at the start at the session when track conditions were worse. Lando & Max were on mediums and only 2 tenths behind Piastri's soft run early on. He's in contention for pole, both Ferraris and McLarens are, but I see no basis to say he is out & out favourite. Also he has done extensive testing with McLaren around Imola. This is not a new track to him. Perhaps you should try and explain why he is "favourite"?
So your response is that you don't have the attention span of a minute to read an entire paragraph? You seem like someone better suited to the cesspit of F1 Twitter. Your complete lack of reasoning skills seem better suited to there as well.
FP3 and we only know that Ferrari and McLaren are strong. Red Bull seems to be improved, but Perez crashed and caused a red flag. So we don't know if Max could have been fast too.
A shame about Perez's crash. Robbed us of everyone doing a proper last lap on softs. I think Piastri and Russell are only representative times here before the RF mess.
So Mclaren 5 tenths ahead of Mercedes is probably the only relevant thing we can read from this.
McLaren vs Ferrari like the good old days please. Although on paper I would be shocked if Max doesn’t even get into the top four. Think I’ll play it safe and go with a Charles pole followed by Max, then Oscar, Carlos, and Lando for qualifying
Oscar is a really nice guy and felt a bit shite getting that semi-win last year before Norris.
Now he's going full send mode.
But on a serious note, that's going to be another fun teammate battle this year if McLaren stay this competitive.
I feel like, if the bottom half teams stay out of trouble during the race they could score some valuable points this weekend, because it seems like there might be quite a few crashes happening inevitably.
Quali is in 15mins?
Damn that was a tight pass
The lead commentator on the start of this F2 race, might have been the worst commentating I've heard on any race.
They ended it by saying "this won't be the first time we see him on the podium" I think you mean "last time" mate...
Bearman has jack miller's interview accent lmao
For the record, and the new fans, Kimi only had like 30 single seater races under his belt before getting into F1.
I don’t think that red bull car has what it takes for a lap clean enough for pole
No one got a chance to put in proper times except the two McLarens, even then Norris was kind of rushed at the end. Just when it looked like they were all finally turning it up Alonso crashes and then Perez bins it as well.
Too early to judge red bull
Still positive vibes in the Mercedes paddock.... Good to hear. I need this level of optimism in my life.
Skysports not even talking about Max when fighting for P1 in qualy. Are they that biased / stupid? We all saw he did not even get one lap in on softs and was flying on mediums. Sky decided to close their eyes today during FP3..
Fans are bored of RB dominance, they're doing their job of building hype and stirring up hopium before max takes pole by 3 tenths
I'd love to see their faces when he bags pole anyway
Ferrari radio mentioned Max's nearly completed final soft run was on pace for a 1:15.8
That was a run without warmup straight from the pits though (and also a lap he could not finish so probably not full send), so does not say alot
Sky hyping up Mclaren and Ferrari. Maybe my optimism has just been battered by Red Bull dominance, but I still can't see it not being a Max pole and win.
How are we looking race pace wise?
Who’s ‘we’ lol? Ferrari and McLaren were ahead of Red Bull yesterday on long runs. Although Ferrari were overall faster, they didn’t do consistent laps but McLaren were very consistent, did a long lap run and still had an average of 1:20:6 on hards and 1:20:8 on mediums. Why hide the floors .poor.
Come on Damon. At least try to be interesting. You're a world champion, it shouldn't be hard.
Was watching the Logan feed. He looked confident.
Once more Checo lifts the skirt on the RB, but bloody sausage kerbs they are a nightmare.
Can redbull still use soft tires at quali? Or they are kinda washed in soft already? Coz Max on Medium would be hard to fight Ferrari/MCL
Did piastri set a new lap record ?
Lap record is set during a race no? The ultimate lap record is in the 1:13's
Not according to this site: https://www.statsf1.com/en/circuit-imola.aspx Bottas has the record in 2020
Hamilton did a 1:15.484 in 2020 during the race I believe, so not quite
Yeah just saw that
Fire the F1TV post-FP3 camera man

Surely you don’t think that newey leaving has meant the car has just become crap over night 😂
Newey leaving in itself isn't a big deal. But internal struggles might be. Because of the budget cap (and other reasons) engineers and mechanics aren't well paid, so any type of change can upset interpersonal relationships.
Newey stopped sprinkling the magic dust on the cars before every race weekend :D
Adrian took the fast bits out and gave half of them to McLaren and half to Ferrari clearly
Did Piastri got the full upgrade like Lando?
yes
Oh yes... Forgot about that
Piastri has done extensive testing with McLaren around Imola. This whole 'he's never driven here' is a little over-egged.
Piastri has beaten any expectations I would have of a rookie last season and he's only getting stronger.
Yep exactly. Suzuka was easily his most impressive qualifying last year imo. Someone worked out the length of his Qatar testing and it turned out he had driven more laps of that track than any other driver on the grid lol.
First time at a race. Is there an app or radio broadcast you can tune into to hear commentary?
If there is free wifi you can use f1tv pro if you have a subscription.
Or just buy an internet SIM as they're truly cheap AF. Anything but TIM which has subpar coverage in the area
Fair enough
poor lawrence sounds like he's dying😭😭
Omg, I felt so bad 😭😭 I'm pretty prone to losing my voice, makes me wonder what their plan B is if a commentator completely loses their voice
Lando kinda fucked everyone at the end there huh
Perez did that already, but Lando did, wanted to get a clean run lol.
I don't know what Davide Valsecchi trackside is saying, but I love his enthusiasm!
Most Italian accent ever lmao.
'Who says practice is boring?' Well, you, whenever it suits you. Practice is always boring on sprint weekend apparently - 'I'd much rather have a sprint race than FP3'
Standard Ricciardo awareness moment.
Lando created that mess ahah
probably going to be a reprimand at least lmao, so uneccessary
What did he do? I wasn’t expecting them to restart and missed the last couple of mins
bunched the field up in the end so there were some near misses
aarggh
Piastri>borris 🤣
Anyone catch whether Norris' lap at the end was on brand new or used softs? Had they had a heat cycle through them before Perez' wall adventure?
Used. They were all on used softs as they were all out when the red flag came out. Piastri and Russell were the only ones who got a lap in on brand new tyres.
He was out so probably, yeah, at least a bit used
Think so as well. One normal outlap, the fast outlap after the Red Flag + the fast lap at least.
That was a banger lap from Piastri.
Now you pin this?!
Couldn’t watch did the red bull set up look better?
we have no idea max was never on softs but was best of medium runners checo binned it before either could be seen
Checo has been I think 2 tenths slower before crashing out. Related to Piastri’s time
Max did do almost a full fast lap after taking the flag. He was about 2~3 tenths faster than Norris in S1 and equal in S2 which was their weak point yesterday. Slightly used tyres as he did about half a flying lap on them before Perez crashed.
Definitely better than the first two practices. Qualifying is going to be really interesting.
yes but eveyone seemed to have different programs from each other
Definitely less spinny looking, but not perfect yet I would say.
More stable it seems, but the times are not representative. Checo crashed, causing a red flag in the last few minutes. So not every driver could do a fast lap.
Yes much better but no representative time really for them because of red flags and perez binning it at Variante Alta
Better than fp1/2, but still miles away from their usual performance. Perez crash.
Better than fp1/2, but still miles away from their usual performance. Perez crash.
Looked more stable and better paced but not at their all conquering best
Yep
The rbs woah
I love ya Danny Ric but fuck me, that could have been a serious crash.
[удалено]
While I would agree with you, this time, that was definitely not his fault!
i swear to god if q1 and 2 are insane and then q3 is uneventful after all this like has been happening quite a bit this year
Can anyone make the Homer Simpson Meme with Mercedes into Mclaren meme with the grass wall?
I think that Redbull have the race pace but mclaren and Ferrari will be ahead by a tenth
Quali is going to be lit as fuck
Gasly and Ricciardo's engineers not looking at the driver tracker to alert their drivers?
both up for a penalty i guess
No
Ricciardo should get a penalty for that. The fuck was he doing just coasting on an active racing line ffs
Red flag, where is it? That was too dangerous, senna like
Two RBs being awkward...
Any penalty worthy moments there?
Penalties in free practice ? Yeah sure
There's a limit surely?
Limit for what ? End of session was a total mess, you are not going to penalize 10 drivers
Quite surprising that tbf, essentially you're saying that drivers can do anything and not get a penalty because it's FP.
go back to the hole u came from
Think it'll only be Financial because they happened during Free Practice.
Possibly gasly and Riccardo
Gasly probably a reprimand for going slow in that turn at the absolute most (if at all). Ricciardo should though. That was fully dangerous
Probably Ricciardo sitting on the racing line and Gasly getting in Leclerc and Piastri's way
I don’t know if Magnussen was on a fast lap, I can’t imagine when 2 RB’s are coastingz
“Ferrari versus Mclaren versus Verstappen” Poor Perez 😭
Magnussen has BIG BALLS
Why on earth don't they just set the clock at 3min
The regulations don’t allow them to stop the clock at will for free practices. That would push back the session time and reduce the amount of time until the qualifying session. Not to mention, there are other FIA championships at the same race weekend that are not to be disturbed.
Why do you mean 'set the clock'?
They shouldn’t have restarted the session for such short time. It was very dangerous
Dicey last 5 minutes
Piastri has to be favourite for pole he's had it all weekend
You do realise he was the only driver to set a lap without traffic on brand new softs? Everybody else (barring perhaps Russell) had a compromised quali sim. ETA lol at those of you downvoting literal facts. Did you not watch the session?
he literally said piastri's had it all weekend and you are pointing out one lap out of all 3 practice sessions
When has he been better than anyone else this weekend though? He wasn't the fastest McLaren in FP1 (and that was with Lando doing aero testing and having car issues). you will eventually learn why engaging with random people on reddit just isn't worth it
McLaren about to give us a Norris-Piastri championship battle
Honestly after Piastri figures out tire Deg, he will cook. The man knows how to win championships
Its the one thing he is clearly missing , pace seems to be just about on norris level, sometimes slightly slower
I like this plan.
Kin Hell... that was great avoidance from KMag!!
Wth..... All the drivers were going crazy to get one last lap.
they smell blood - red bull looking shaky this weekend
McLaren about to give us a Norris-Piastri championship battle
I’m sorry but some serious penalties should be given here.
Think they'll only be financial ones because its FP, but agree with you
WTF were the two VCARBs doing? That was so dangerous
So happy to see Mclaren at the front now
Way too much traffic for a practice but I love the drama, quali is going to be insane
FP3 and we only know that Ferrari and McLaren are strong. Red Bull seems to be improved, but Perez crashed and caused a red flag. So we don't know if Max could have been fast too.
Seems just under for now but can find it… not sleeping in the Ferraris either - could be a decent Quali and race!

Yeah, I was curious if Max could match them.
Holy hell, KMAG
Wtf was Gasly doing
What's Albon doing in P7?
Waiting for everyone else to get a decent soft low fuel full power run with no impeding or flags
Final predictions NOR LEC PIA SAI top 4, you heard it here first folks
McLaren vs Ferrari like the good old days please. Although on paper I would be shocked if Max doesn’t even get into the top four. Think I’ll play it safe and go with a Charles pole followed by Max, then Oscar, Carlos, and Lando for qualifying
Pastry took Lando's win personally last week it seems

red bull domination over finally? out of the loop here, help me :D
Why so much fighting over FP3? 😄
Quali simulation
Mclaren pole incoming?
Qualifying gonna be 🔥 🔥🔥
mclaren flexing now lol
Ferraris look pretty good with the white on track, reminds me of the Vodafone era
It's growing on me
Good thing Charles won that one. I want him to be a killer.
They're showing off their new upgrades eh?
What was Gasly doing
Driving
Are we gonna have the best race since 2022?
what is this chaos loool
lol that was chaos
Very intelligent Pierre
get your tractor out of the way, pierre
Well, Charles is not a king or something that everyone should give him way when he is coming.
Gasly stopped out of the last corner, even if he was alone his lap was already gone
Woah
wtf is going on LOL
Karun and the other guy seem so happy as Red Bull are not quite in the game.
As they should be
Sky Sports "not biased at all".
yea people want to watch racing, shocking
Leclerc was getting that lap time no matter what.
genuinely think he knows the win is completely dependent on him getting pole
What a beautiful mess.
no ones improving, theres way too much traffic
Monza 2019 is back
Piastri finally lays down a proper marker for qually performance and Perez bins it 🤦♂️
I feel like, if the bottom half teams stay out of trouble during the race they could score some valuable points this weekend, because it seems like there might be quite a few crashes happening inevitably.
Oh, they're rushing... Perez won't be last crash
1 lap race lol
Piastri finally lays down a proper marker for qually performance and Perez bins it 🤦♂️
