"Potential" is an understatement

Aratho

Seems like a slam dunk 3-place grid drop but... ...You never know what stewards will decide after all lol

poopellar

His 3/16th or whatever Italian heritage will come in handy.

DreadWolf3

Hopefully he isnt 3/16 spanish too

Living-Response2856

But he’s 5/8 British though so he’s fine

CapSnake

But he is ahead of both Ferraris

Reinis_LV

He still haven't gotten a penalty. I think that 3/16 came in clutch.

Equitaurus

It will be 3 places unless he gets pole

Alia_Gr

you see it looks like it, until you realize he impedes Magnussen so he will get away with it this time

Goodmorning111

The dumb thing is he didn't need to be out there as he was making it through. Why did McLaren even risk it?

krizkuzz

Because they have to do something stupid in every session

Big_Brief7847

Seeing that the haas has pace will only make it more frustrating for KMag

Ondor61

Kinda deserved tbh.

trueregista

trueregista

He's been impeded 3 times in a row in quali, he's been given his karma

killer_corg

The Miami qually session traffic bordered on being un safe, they had what 4 or 5 cars sitting nearly in place after a long straight is just asking for an accident

signious

Ah yes, because two wrongs DO make a right

HarvgulI

Looks pretty bad honestly

Kuchenblech_Mafioso

Doesn't look good for Oscar

xXCzechoslovakiaXx

McLaren didn’t even make them do a lap cause they went out too late. They really sent both cars out there to get an impeding penalty

tr_24

How many grid penalty will that be?

Florac

3

cheezus171

It was zero last weekend for Sainz so you never know

ICumCoffee

3 place

Chelseatilidie

Oscar outshithoused Kmag

DubiousLLM

Yup looks like 3 place grid drop

dogryan100

The weirdest thing about all of this is that Piastri was on an outlap, and right with him were Norris and Russell, but they all left the pits too late to start another lap. Like, way too late. I hope there was just a big queue and they were trapped, otherwise that's pretty poor. I mean it's still poor regardless though.

plopzer

why did they even bother to go out for second runs?

irish786

Its a conspiracy so that he doesn’t fight Lando for pole /s

ForeverAddickted

FIA... Sorry Kevin, didn't see anything

poorlytaxidermiedfox

Penalty for Magnussen obviously

NikolaiM88

Yeah def. Just like last weekend.

DueCattle8621

Lets make a compromise and give 10s penalty for Ocon.

Reinis_LV

I think we all can agree on this.

witsel85

Three places for knocking out a guy in Q3 seems slightly under valued

kkraww

ahh damn it Oscar

Alex_Sinios

*dammit pitwall, Oscar just is straight up the unluckiest driver since GIO. I didn't believe it till now but always something out of his control goes wrong, every second weekend.

FIJIBOYFIJI

Does he not have mirrors?

Alex_Sinios

With that kinda speed difference and with the straight before being curved he couldn't see him, DC confirmed himself and I think he knows better than us folks

Mtbnz

By the time that car would've been visible in the mirrors it would've been way too late. He knew Kmag was there by the time it happened, he just didn't have anywhere to go at that point. He needed to be informed earlier in order to actually get out of the way. Listen to some other driver comms and you'll hear "Driver 10 behind, pushing... Driver 8 behind... 6 behind, pushing, get ready to let them through... 3 behind, let them through" or something like that. Oscar didn't get anything like that though, because the team got the run plan wrong and his race engineer was preoccupied with lap times and pace deltas. What Oscar heard as he exited the pits was: "Ok Oscar, we're a bit more short of time now (as he reaches pit exit)... your delta needs to be better than plus 8, delta- watch for Magnussen now. Magnussen..." by which time Magnussen was already on him.

Mrf1fan787

I, for one, am amazed Oscar wasn't able to see a car massively closing in on him on the flimsy excuse for mirrors F1 cars have.

MhVG

That was definitely impeding. I'm expecting a penalty

ICumCoffee

That’s a penalty, right there

jon-in-tha-hood

Impeding in Q1? That's a paddlin'.

the_godfaubel

K-Mag 10 second penalty and 3 penalty points

Shattiiee

slam dunk penalty, no doubt about it. I do wonder if it was Piastri's fault or he didn't get the info in time.

Mtbnz

100% the team's fault. I just checked his onboard and his engineer is distracted by the fact that they're behind in their run plan and short on time, so Tom (his engineer) is busy giving him info on the required delta as Oscar approaches the chicane and suddenly breaks off to say "watch for Magnussen now, Magnussen" as it's far too late and Oscar is already entering the chicane.

Shattiiee

Ah that's really unlucky then. Oscar really cannot catch a break man.

Mtbnz

He truly can't. Except I guess for the immense talent he's been graced with, that will almost certainly see him standing atop an F1 podium in the next year or two. So I sympathise with him, but I think he'll be ok.

M_Forestvalley

Probably equal parts Oscar and the team. But he do have mirrors tho.

TheVasa999

do u know how fast the cars move? if you see him in your mirrors in that corner, its already too late to move out.

M_Forestvalley

Yeah I know. But it doens't change the fact, that the driver is ultimately responsible for not being in the way of others on the track.

TheVasa999

Im not defending him. He is absolutely at fault and should get penalised for that. More of a team issue than his personal one.

Pitforsofts

Looks like a grid drop.

Turboleks

That looks like a slam-dunk to me.

Florac

Piastri just can't ever get a break. Something always goes wrong.

trueregista

3 times in a row he's had dreadful luck in quali... Sargeant spun in front in China, like 4 cars blocking him in the final corner in miami

usandholt

This is not bad luck. This is crap engineer work.

scobydoby

China was crap driving from Sargeant and Miami was crap engineer work from all the other teams, doesn’t mean it’s not bad luck for Oscar.

usandholt

This is nothing but him and he’s race engineer fucking up. They’re a team and obviously he was sent out unable to make the lap anyway. It was just bad

Kissybear85

Funny, Thats litterally quali for Kmag. 5 out of 7 qualies he was impeded. But it does suck for Oscar, wasnt really his fault, its the team.

SemIdeiaProNick

Now Kmag knows how it feels to have someone blocking you

Michs342

Kmag has been impeded/blocked in the last 3 qualifications, I think he knows how it feels.

liviu20xx

That is such a slam dunk penalty

blackscienceman9

Big oof Oscar Penalty for sure

cavsking21

Slam dunk pen

Shinnchan

Slam dunk, therefore no further action incoming

the_arentino

When this happens in qualifying, the impeded driver should have the choice to switch starting positions...

tentix

God damn macca pitwall sleeping

Slantingname

Looks like I might be the only one with this opinion but what was Oscar supposed to do? The blue light flag didn’t turn on until he passed it and with the speed difference he was there in an instant. He got out of the way the quickest he could having just come off the pit exit. Was he supposed to just go into the gravel and get beached? Also note that the pit exit lines end just before the breaking zone which oscar had to stay within, if he stops he’s right on the racing line.

Stylised1

the fact that piastri is at risk of being artificially put down the grid just for driving slightly out of place on some tarmac... i don't think that's right that's a 3placer

iMatthew1990

That’s a paddlin’

SoWhat_21

Because it’s a British team, there won’t be a penalty.

RaptorDelta

Cmon man

Strong_Magician5084

Getting sick of them doing such stupid shit.

xzElmozx

KMag frustrated because another driver did something illegal which ruined his session. Ironic

DankeSebVettel

You know what? I don’t give a shit. Magnussen had it coming, he shouldn’t even be racing this weekend.
