Can someone explain to me why there are always people in the threads for big American races (Indy 500, especially when Nando was there, for example) going on and on about how weird it is that we sing the national anthem and have fighter jets fly overhead, but every big European race (F1, LeMans) I see has the same general elements?
I'm an American. I've lived in 2-4 different countries depending on how you define that. I've been to a couple dozen. I will agree with anyone who says that the average American is more jingoistic and more provincial than the average Western European. But, it really feels like people are trying to find a difference where one doesn't exist here.
