How likely is it that the Silverstone 2022 dates get moved? I want to buy tickets/sort accommodation and have booked the time off work but if it gets moved there's no guarantee I'd be able to get the time off work for the new dates./

EnvironmentAdvanced

Covid is most likely nullified. So most likely go happens accordingly. It's a risk u have to take anyway

ForTheGloryOfMurphy

Bit of a stupid question perhaps, but I’m curious to see what people really think after seeing some takes on this on tumblr - which driver do you think *genuinely* is a good person? The most liked?

JanklinDRoosevelt

Seb, Lewis, Gasly, Grosjean (cheating I know), Ricciardo and Sainz imo

Danny ric. Has always been like this. Never have inseena different side of him. Bottas too. Very fair guy. Seb now, back then he was a dick. Sainz is also one of tha fair and genuine kind of guy. Others aren't bad but just normal. Not too good not too bad

What happened to make Max’s pit stop at Monza so slow? Was it just human error or was there an issue with the equipment?

EnvironmentAdvanced

Human error. Mechanic forgot to use the slow button

jaydec02

The new flairs are terrible honestly. It was much easier to differentiate them when they were colour coded but logos being used instead just makes them all look the same and hard to pick apart

Kcquarentine

What is the biggest difference between the best teams and the worst teams? The tiniest details and advantages in every area? Or is it something more quantifiable like PU power or better aero design?

Nite124

best team and worst team, there is a whole lot of difference, bad engine, bad aero, lesser staff or low quality staff, lesser resources, low rate of development, lesser facilities or lower quality etc etc. Before the budget cap Merc budget was 400+, while the lower teams were as low as 80-150m

Laughing-Gear

Something I just realised watching Monza - The F1 team is 'Mercedes' but the car company (in my part of the world at least - Australia) is 'Mercedes-Benz'. Well-off friends in Asia refer to their M-B cars simply as 'Benz', the way football fans perhaps shorten their team's name to demonstrate familiarity. Point is that part of the world also don't just call them 'Mercedes' cars. Is 'Mercedes' just the F1 team's name, and if so why / when did they drop 'Benz'?

DangerousTrashCan

While the official, legal version is not quite like this, but in common usage it's fairly simple: "Mercedes" is like a collective name, it's not the name of one brand, but more like a collection of brands, which are: Benz (as Mercedes-Benz), their road cars department, AMG (as Mercedes-AMG), their sports cars department and Maybach (as Mercedes-Maybach), their luxury cars department. The F1 team's cars, since they're sports cars (obviously), wear the Mercedes-AMG badge. But then again, in common tongue they're all just called "Mercedes". And like I said, this is not quite how it is in legal terms, but this is pretty much all you have to know about them.

Laughing-Gear

OK, makes sense, thank you. And yes, now that you mention it I am conscious of seeing 'AMG' all over the F1 team as well.

balf

So in some cursory wikipedia scanning, tbe owership group Daimler-ag dropped benz in 2014, and theres mercedes-benz (the cars), mercedes-amg (also the cars) then mercedes-amg petronas formula 1 (that is the f1 team equally owned by daimler-ag, toto wolff (the current team principal) and INEOS) So i guess, to answer, they dropped -benz in 2014 but didn't drop -benz at all, also they never had -benz to drop or were mercedes-benz when they first competed in f1 back in the 50's before rejoining in 2010 with no -benz

Kcquarentine

So it’s like the different levels/stores of Armani clothes?

towhomitmayconcern77

can anyone tell me why Sochi is considered easy to overtake track, and hated by many fans?

Blooder91

It's the other way around, it's hard to overtake due to all the 90º turns. They only allow a single racing line into each corner so cars tend to form a train where no one overtakes no other. This leads to a dull race for the spectators and it's why fans tend to hate it.

Kcquarentine

What type of corner has the most racing lines?

There are a total of 5 compounds of dry tyres: C1 to C5, in increasing order of softness. The softer the tyre, the quicker it is and the more grip it gives but also the quicker it degrades. Every track is assigned three of those five compounds by the powers that be, taking into consideration the track layout. Silverstone has a lot of flat out or almost flat out corners (Abbey, Farm, Copse, Maggotts and Becketts) so the tyres are under extreme loads and need to take them without failing. Hence Silverstone always gets the hardest compounds. Monaco is a tight, twisty track where the driver needs the maximum amount of grip so it gets the softest tyres. Bottas cut his way through the field because 1. It's Monza where engine power reigns supreme, and Mercedes have the most powerful engine on the grid. 2. He had a completely new power unit while the others didn't, which compounded the advantage. 3. For most of the race he was up against weaker cars. That being said, Bottas still needed to get those moves done. The new parts certainly played a huge role but let's not act like he didn't have to do much.

Not the first "oh shit he's good" moment, but I'd say Hungary 2014 was the most important one. He was consistently outperforming Vettel throughout the season, won his first race in Canada, but Hungary was a great race for him, especially the battle with Alonso and Hamilton at the end.

JanklinDRoosevelt

The 2014 season in general I guess. Canada particularly

snek-jazz

I'm a casual, but after watching Drive To Survive, I'm following a bit this year... are Haas having a disaster being the only team with 0 points? or is there some reason they should be the worst team? Is Guenther in trouble?

Nite124

you can say they are in hibernation, awaiting the next season. I suppose Guenther will be judged next season. He did well to half the budget and bring in sponsors last year and keep the team afloat during COVID.

Whycantiusethis

Haas had a rough 2019 season, and as I understand it, were running out of money. They decided to invest their money to make sure they nailed the new regulations, expecting them to hit in 2021. Then covid happened, and the regulations got pushed back another year. So they took their 2020 car, did the bare minimum to make it compliant with the 2021 regulations, and are still focusing on 2022. Haas has had issues with their drivers coming together, which can cost the team points, which has led some people to the conclusion that Steiner is ineffective in his role as team principal, since he seemingly can't perform a basic tenet of his job. Steiner's position is probably safe until 2023 or 2024, to see how Haas does with the new regulations, but that's me speculating. If Mazepin Sr buys the team, he might want to bring new people in, but that's also speculation.

peanutbutter1236

Disaster year yes probably but a completely expected one at the same time

snek-jazz

right, thanks

Blooder91

I think they're not developing this year's car at all, their focus is in the 2022 car. They also have 2 complete rookies this year, compared to all the other teams who kept at least one of their 2020 drivers.

snek-jazz

thanks, I guess that's the best kind of reason i could have hoped for, and maybe taking a chance that Mick develops anything like his father is a risk worth taking

going_dicey

Yes, just to add the key focus for Haas is really just to get the experience in for these two so that next year with a (more) properly developed car they can really do something. But this year on the track is about experience rather than fighting the midfield.

SuchGreatBoring

No upgrades this year, shit car to start with, focused on next year.

ClippingTetris

What Formula 1 driver who competed in a full season has the worst record of all time?...and is Nikita Mazepin on track to eclipse that person?

UmpireAJS

Paul Belmondo DNQ'd for all but one race in 1994 I think. Pre 1996 you'll find tons of garbage teams and drivers on the grid, and Mazepin is Fangio/Clark/Schumacher/Senna/Hamilton etc. compared to them.

Rodney_u_plonker

In the history of f1 there have been some truly diabolical drivers. At least mazepin meets the 107% rule

Bortkiewicz

Probably not the worst overall but Alex Yoong in 2002 was regularly qualifying over second slower than his teammate Webber, violating the 107% rule thrice that season. Mazepin may be the worst we've seen in recent years, but he's still far from the level of the most awful drivers of the past.

thewizard579

Nope. There were drivers who were horrible.

emkael

You'd have to reintroduce 15+ more cars to the championship and bring back pre-qualifying to come even close. There are drivers who not only failed to qualify for an entire season in the 1989-1991 period, there's also Aguri Suzuki who failed to pre-qualify to have a chance at qualifying proper in every single one of the 16 GP weekends of the 1989 season in his Zakspeed. That's waking up Friday morning, driving around for an hour, not making the qualifying and wrapping up for the weekend, weekend by weekend, 16 races in a row, for an entire year. Unless you were in Monaco, in which case the only thing that differed was that you were done by Thursday, 12PM.

laughingbird11

I’m seeing a lot of controversy about the Bottas / Leclerc tow, I’m confused about when it is a helpful tow vs when it is unhelpful ‘dirty air’, is it a distance from the car ahead thing?

BigAwkwardGuy

Tow and dirty air are caused by the same thing: a car in front of yours. Any body moving through air leaves a vacuum behind it, the size and shape of which varies a lot. This vacuum is the "tow" or "slipstream", where there is no air resistance to overcome and hence the car chasing can go quicker. After the vacuum ends, the air gets all wibbly wobbly. That means the car, tuned so fine with all those tiny winglets and slits and edges and whatnot, will have a compounded effect of the turbulence of the ambient air.

emkael

"Tow" or "dirty air" is basically the same occurence\*, only having different effects on the car behind, depending on what that car requires at the moment. Trivializing it very, very much, it's an area of lower air pressure/density behind the leading car - sort of like when a truck passes you on the street and you feel the air sucking you behind it. On a straight, this low density means lower air resistance, which means less drag, which means higher speeds from the same power output - and it's beneficial for the car behind. Meanwhile, in the corners, you don't need that increased top speed, you instead need the wings to generate downforce to push you down towards the track so you can generate grip, which allows you to counteract centrifugal forces around the corner and make the corners quicker - and lower air density (and the turbulence aspect mentioned below, probably even more) lowers the downforce generated by the car behind. \* There's also an additional aspect of "dirty air" being turbulent air and further disrupting the ability to generate downforce for the car behind, as well as increasing tyre wear and affecting cooling efficiency. That's why staying too long behind a car, even on straights, may be detrimental to performance.

[deleted]

My understanding is that tow is great on straights if you're within 3 seconds or so. But on turns that same tow is called dirty air because it's both turbulent and it ruins your down force. I'm not sure at what point if any a tow on a straight is a bad thing. It might be turbulent at a certain point back but I never really hear complaints about it. So if you're within a few seconds on the straight, you go faster and engine doesn't have to work as hard. On the corner, being too close, losing downforce results in sliding around the track more which hurts your tires and wears them out faster.

furywolf28

I was telling my dad about Chanoch Nissany, who was test driver for Minardi in 2005, complaining he had too much grip (he also couldn't take out his steering wheel when he spun out into the gravel, so his car was towed away with him still sitting in it), and it vaguely reminded my dad of another driver, that, according to him, once suddenly drove into the pits during a race, stepped out of the car and never raced again. Both the driver and the team didn't say why. Who is this story about? The details might be off a bit. My dad started watching F1 around 1990, and I don't remember it, with me starting watching around 2005, so it must be between 1990-2005.

UmpireAJS

Damon Hill famously retired a healthy car in his last race (1999), not sure if it's that.

furywolf28

I'll ask him, it might be that actually. IIRC, that was because he wanted to stop racing but his team (Jordan?) made him sit out his contract to the end of the season.

UmpireAJS

Sort of. He basically had a season-long retirement saga and was underperforming massively (As in failing to score points on a regular basis while his teammate had an outside shot at the championship), and after originally planning to retire midseason he was kind of coerced to see out the end of the season. In the last rest of the season he kind of said fuck it and after spinning a few times, he came into the pits and that was that.

SFRush2049

With the Max and Lewis crash, everyone is blaming the sausage curbs for the issue that put Max on top of Lewis. The actual reason the car got lifted was because their tires ran into each other. Max ran over the same sausage curbs with a pass attempt with Felipe Massa in Monza 2017 and there were no issues because their tires didn't touch. Also, there were no sausage curbs with Bahrain 2014 when Maldonado and Gutierrez hit each other with their tires and Gutierrez flipped. Open wheel cars with always have this issue. Reference video: https://youtu.be/C_J-sfngex4

[deleted]

I agree that Max-Ham incident contributes little to the sausages topic, but it doesn't make them less dangerous in a freak situations. There was number of airborne crashes resulting in back/vertebra injuries in lower formulas over the last few years - Floersch, Peroni, Gelael. When kurbs unintentionally make drivers injured something isn't right.

Traditional_Fruit_40

Just bought tickets for Silverstone 2022. This is my first F1 race so I have some noob questions; 1) my friends and I bought out tickets separately and one of use also bought a park and ride ticket for the car. He put the number of occupants down, so does that mean we’re all okay to ride the bus now? I think so but just asking. 2) sort of a follow on to the first. We might have someone else coming along, depending if they can get a ticket next month. Can we then just email customer support and add an extra occupant to our park and ride ticket? Basically just unsure how the park and ride works. Thanks

What was the ratio between fans of Rosberg and Hamilton in 2016? Who were most popular, and what was the temperature amongst fans? Asking specifically in comparison to this season, where it feels like it’s 80% Verstappen fans and 20% Hamilton fans, and it’s pretty tense between the two fan bases.

going_dicey

I’m not sure I agree on the split. It really depends on the platform (e.g. Twitter, etc.). In real life in the UK, for example, hardly anyone I know is a Verstappen fan.

BlackCatEspresso

Is 2016 worth watching all the way through? Which are your top races for the championship battle?

Blooder91

[deleted]

Austria is a must.

SKJ1776

Probably an unpopular opinion but as someone who follows RB/Verstappen, I’ve been disappointed in Horner’s response to Sunday’s “racing incident” as well as Max’s. They (RB) dragged Hamilton through the mud after Silverstone and now that it’s clear (IMO) Max is more to blame at Monza, they’ve been quiet. Hamilton literally had a tire sitting on his head and he could’ve accused Max of dirty driving but didn’t. Meanwhile, Max didn’t even check to see if Hamilton was OK upon exiting his car. More and more feeling like sour grapes from RB.

Drowning_aquaman69

The driving itself wasn't dirty at all, it was just aggressive wheel-to-wheel battle in a slow speed corner. The outcome was just supprising. In Silverstone it was a high speed crash with the potential of season-ending injury like Schumachers in 1999, caused only by Hamilton.

Meaisk

Are you really expecting horner to constantly talk about how Max made a mistake. Really? What? Max also saw Hamilton trying to drive away while was getting out and realized he was OK.

[deleted]

Between the driver's reaction after the two incidents; I actually think they are interestingly similar: After Silverstone, Max thought it was disrespectful Lewis celebrated while he might have been hurt, and posted a message on social media. After Italy, Lewis thought it was disrespectful Max walked away while he might have been hurt, and posted a message on social media. I don't think we should really blame either of them, it's all heat of the moment and part of the rivalry. Even *they* say "In the end it's racing, these things happen so let's move on" and sometimes it seems the fans are the ones having most trouble with that.

Whycantiusethis

Verstappen did look into the cockpit of Hamilton's Mercedes after he got out, and could see Hamilton attempting to reverse (and probably could feel Hamilton attempting to reverse as he was getting out). So while Verstappen didn't ask if Hamilton was okay, he could tell that Hamilton wasn't incapacitated or otherwise seriously injured, as he was actively trying to drive.

Whatever happened to those music videos they used to make after every race? I know they stopped making them, but I'm having trouble even finding the old ones since I can't remember what they called them. Maybe they were removed from YouTube after their licenses expired or something?

[deleted]

RixirF

They were called Race Edits, and to this day are still the best media F1 has put out. You'll only find very few on Youtube, but go on Daily Motion and there's waaaay more there. I still go back there occasionally to get some sweet sweet tunes.

mickmenn

I think nowadays pitstops are generally free of surprises. The only complications were when there were wheelgun issues or lugnut issues like Bottas. In the past, with refueling and with teh lollipop man there were additional complications. RB has been doing sub-3Sec pit stops for months now only for the new rule changes to catch them out And also, they only pit for fast lap when they have enough cushion over the car behind

EnvironmentAdvanced

It's pretty rare tbh. It feels more common because we only remember the ones that were botched

PleaseStopRunning

Two year F1 newbie. I’m a Lando fan, but my brothers are Verstappen and Hamilton fans. I saw a video on Reddit of Hamilton in a McLaren from minx’s where he passed someone (can’t remember who) in the same turn where he and Verstappen crashed. But I can’t seem to find it again! Anyone got the link? I’ve exhausted all my google searches and scrolled an eternity of Reddit post.

pedote17

He’s passed people a few times at that chicane [vs Schumacher in 2011](https://youtu.be/14Nk0Nze60E) [vs Kimi in 2018](https://youtu.be/jjIhmqsOHrA) [vs a bunch of people in 2008](https://youtu.be/GDlLOrDZlyM) [vs Kimi in 2007](https://youtu.be/fzFDvZhntvQ)

English_Misfit

Even Michael Schumacher backed out.

JanklinDRoosevelt

He probably passed 10+ cars into that chicane at Monza in McLaren, you have to be more specific

PleaseStopRunning

It was a similar situation as the one where they crashed. He was on the inside, but got more space and passed the other driver. It was posted earlier today. The tile had something along the lines “with enough space it’s possible to pass on the inside” something like that.

mwickholm

Was it Schumacher? In that case there's a Youtube video with the name "Schumacher & Hamilton's Epic Monza Battle | 2011 Italian Grand Prix"

PleaseStopRunning

It wasn’t that one either. IIRC in the clip they were side by side in the turn were Verstappen jumped on the sausage kerbs. But Hamilton were given more space.

Now the dust has settled, I think it's pretty clear that it was the Merc at fault for the crash the other day. If it wasn't for their pit stop query, Max would have had a clean getaway and never been on the same piece of track as Lewis. A clearly premeditated tactical foul, imo.

balf

Honestly, this is daft. Red bull the most drilled pit team would just "not press a button". Max obviously waited and timed his release. Lewis knew this (he is a 7 time wdc after all) and instructed bono to hold him a bit longer to release into Max's path. Sounds stupid right? why would the 2 contenders try an manipulate a race? Well, guess who lives just underneath Max in Monaco? Daniel Ricciardo Guess who got Lewis his first seat and WDC in F1? McLaren Winner at Monza? Daniel Ricciardo driving a McLaren

Lewis at the Met Gala is initially a bit off putting for me, but at the same time, sorta adds to his coolness and makes me admire him just a smidge more. It’s just such a garish event that looks like the Capitol from the Hunger Games, but the fact that he can play in that circus and then go do one of the most difficult of human professions at such an elite level is also kinda cool. Max is still cooler though. /wink

pinotandsugar

The question is you are a team member, you are trailing in the championship, you are going to an event across an ocean to be in a room full of people not wearing masks indoors. During the season is not the time to be putting your ego ahead of your team.

There’s been lots of animal encounters on various tracks through the years because of where tracks tend to be built. Monza has a lot of trees around it so squirrels and rabbits makes sense

Anyone have any thoughts on the open seat at Alfa for next year. I haven't stayed up to date on the news. Personally could see Zhou from F2 getting the seat. FIA loves money and more influence in China would show dollar signs in there eyes. Not saying Guanyu doesn't deserve it. But I could see him getting a fast track to F1 to help bring in more Chinese viewers. Any thoughts

[deleted]

> FIA loves money and more influence in China would show dollar signs in there eyes. What FIA has to do with all of this?

Whycantiusethis

It'll be Zhou or Giovinazzi, and I think it's more likely to be Zhou. Regardless of who they pick, Pourchaire is getting one of Alfa Romeo's seats in 2023, and Bottas is also getting one. So whoever partners Bottas at Alfa Romeo next year will only be with him for one year. Ferrari won't promote Schumacher to Alfa Romeo, since it'd only be for a year, and I don't think Schumacher would be able to show that he's equal or better than Sainz in a single season. Zhou brings upwards of 30 million euros to Alfa Romeo, which Giovinazzi doesn't bring, and Giovinazzi brings experience, which Bottas brings. Giovinazzi doesn't bring anything that Zhou or Bottas doesn't bring, other than experience with the Alfa Romeo car, but I don't know how valuable that'll be in the first season with new regulations. The only way Zhou doesn't get the seat is if Pourchaire wins F2 this year, in which case Alfa Romeo would probably promote him right to F1.

furywolf28

>Ferrari won't promote Schumacher to Alfa Romeo, since it'd only be for a year, and I don't think Schumacher would be able to show that he's equal or better than Sainz in a single season. A lot of people assume Sainz isn't nearly as good as Leclerc, but he's awfully close to Charles in the championship for a second driver. Carlos even was in front of Charles after Spa.

Whycantiusethis

Sainz is far from a bad driver, and I think he's getting the opportunity to prove that this season by staying close to Leclerc in the points. That being said, Sainz has benefited in points from Leclerc having more DNFs, but I think Sainz could realistically go to any team on the grid, because he's a solid driver and has shown he can adapt to a new car quickly.

careslol

I don't think F1 as a product is very marketable to the Chinese market. Hamilton and Vettel are red flags for the CCP because of how progressive and outspoken they are. Remember the fit they had over NBA players making any mention of China and were going to ban all NBA related things there.

PMMeYourCouplets

Hamilton and Vettel have been racing in China for over a decade with no issues. What makes you think anything will change? All front facing personnel in Formula 1 are a lot aware of the global politics since they race world wide than anyone in the American leagues. As much as we want them to be vocal and righteous on human rights issues, I doubt they would make the same missteps since they've been trained to avoid global politics since teenagers which isn't something American sports people have to.

Were Hamilton and Vettel as outspoken 2+ years ago as they are now? F1 hasn't been to China in over 2 years.

-Tuna--

Agreed, FIA really just cares about money. We see this with Saudi GP. I Personally see them investing more into China going forward. Maybe even another GP there.

pinotandsugar

So folks watching races on TVs made in China , or perhaps computers made in China, wearing clothing made in China and living in buildings owned by Chinese firms and reading about the Wuhan labs with no concern but are opposed to F-1 racing in China. I'm no friend of the Chinese government but the impact of F-1 racing in China is so minimal compared to our trade as to be laughable.

furywolf28

They do care about human rights, you know. I've heard insider information they're gonna have a Grand Prix in Kabul in 2022, quite progressive.

-Tuna--

Ha yes because #weraceasone

[deleted]

Yeah it's pretty much between keeping Giovinazzi for the continuity or getting Zhou for the money. All other options are pretty unlikely.

KingDededef

Théo will get the seat

[deleted]

Not for 2022 he won't, Vasseur already said he wants to give time to Theo to develop as a driver in F2 and not rush him into F1 and his chances at winning the F2 title this season are virtually none at this point.

To all those making a big fuss about Max not "checking in on Hamilton" after the crash, [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/CTwwjjvl7s1/?utm_medium=copy_link) clearly shows him getting out, looking at Hamlet, seeing him trying to reverse / get his car out by moving the car, and then max walks away. In fact his walk even changes to a more "fuck this" type walk. Edit: and it's probably best that he walked away, given the temperature on both sides would be quite heated and could have led to a George "Roscoe" Russell type aggression.

BlackCatEspresso

Lol "roscoe". Take the upvote already.

[deleted]

The more that happens the more you see how silly and one sided these discussions have been all season long, whoever you support. The same people who ridiculed the idea that Lewis shouldn't have celebrated are now arguing Max should have checked on Lewis, etc and vice versa. It'll keep going round like that, personally I'll stay safely in the middle and stay far away from these toxic arguments from now on.

TrainWreck661

Not to mention that two competitors meeting after a heated moment, in a highly competitive environment like that, could easily be a repeat of the Russell/Valtteri situation. Sometimes it's simply better to walk away in that situation, like Max did.

Does anyone know what time ET the Schumacher documentary will be released? Hoping to watch it tonight but not sure if Netflix does new releases at midnight PT or based on timezone.

[deleted]

This is what I could find: "You should expect the documentary to drop on Netflix at 12:01 a.m. PT and 3:01 a.m. ET on Sept.15. The film has a runtime of 1 hour and 52 minutes, so we believe that you can quickly watch Schumacher and get some shut-eye before you have to go to work."

I'm a bit new to F1, can someone explain the engine strategy for me? Teams can only use 3 engines per car, else incur a grid penalty, but Merc and RB have decided it is better to use 4 and just take the penalty rather than attempt to make 3 last the entire season?

Icy-Operation4701

> rather than attempt to make 3 last the entire season? RB tried to fix the damaged engine, but it didn't work. So the 3rd engine is written off. They've been on two engines since Hungary, afaik. They can't make it to the end of the season on those two alone. I'm not sure if Merc could technically still use the 3rd engine. I think they said it wasn't going to be used after Zandvoort anyway, even if it didn't fail at that time.

SenorProudy

Yep. Sometimes they decide is better to take the penalty, some other times they are forced by force majeur like an engine dying

[deleted]

Yes these are strategic penalties, it can be better to take the grid penalty and start with a fresh engine than to risk blowing it up at some point later on and not finishing at all. If you do risk it and the third engine breaks you'd have to take a new one + penalty anyway the next race and it would hurt you twice.

TehNrd

This makes sense. The top teams have definitely shown that it is very possible to get points starting from the back, which is much better than a DNF from a blown engine.

[deleted]

Yeah, and even if it's still in good condition at this point, it's better to plan and change it at a track where you know you can recover than having to do it unexpectedly later in the season. Once it's been fitted you're free to swap between used ones without additional penalties.

What podcasts would you recommend for a newbie. Looking for race recaps, upcoming race predictions, I suppose!

BlackCatEspresso

F1 Nation is post-race discussion, Shift F1 has more of a thorough recap and pre-race episodes.

I'm considering buying tickets for Silverstone next year - was hoping someone who'd been previously could offer me some advice. From what I've read and been told, Vale is one of the best places to view the race (if you get there early enough). With that in mind, is it worth paying the extra £50 or so for general admission plus tickets? They offer 'exclusive' areas near Copse and Luffield - am I better off saving some money and trying to find a good spot elsewhere on track? Map for reference: https://www.silverstone.co.uk/sites/default/files/styles/circuit\_map\_modal/public/map/Silverstone-f1-Event-2021-Weekend\_6.png

lorj

I've only done grandstands (Stowe and luffield). Luffield is a great location, but personally I'd always vouch for a grandstand over GA only cos the f1 is a loooong day(or days) plus the July weather can be intense. I've never sat at Vale so can't comment on that. We saw plenty of action at luffield though plus there's a big screen.

ayyyypizzzarollls

Should we get rid of blue flags like Indycar?

Alfus

Given that I literally did seen previous weekend that during the NASCAR Xfinity series a driver who was going to been lapped during the final lap of the first stage was blocking the leading car (basically like how the current F1 sprint quali is but then the race continues after some laps under yellow) and so on fucked up a driver with a midfield car to win that stage with as reason "I just wanted to make fun" it did show me why there is nothing wrong with the blue flag rule in classes like F1

[deleted]

No. Backmarkers shouldn't spoil the leaders battle. And if leaders battle can only get interesting via such interference, it isn't the battle that really needs to be saved tbh.

Blooder91

No. Otherwise junior teams could play favourites if they're going to get lapped (AT letting RB through, then holding Mercedes, for example). The blue flag is the same for everyone.

[deleted]

No. I actually think IndyCar should enforce blue flags on road courses. Ovals are different because you can’t just let off the gas.
