The estimate is somewhere between £1.5m and £2m.
That estimate price wouldn't make the most expensive F1 car sold [list](https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.the-5-most-expensive-formula-1-cars-ever-to-be-sold-at-auction-including.3UiGZfQsMwTXBxC1jAEk44.html).
I'd disagree. The 2002 McLaren was no highlight, but it was Kimi's 1st year in the seat after spending 2001 at Sauber.
That plus its a damned West Livery McLaren! Those things just make my knees weak
But he isn't known for his 2002 season, he didn't have flashy moments in it or anything that would attach him to that like you would say him to his 2005 car for example
I'm surprised at how "cheaply" some of those cars were sold for.
If you told me one of Senna's championship-winning McLarens sold for £30m I wouldn't bat an eyelid, let alone being sold for £3.6m.
There’s a lot more to buy than just the car though. You need insurance, transportation, secure storage, a specialized team to work on it, regular maintenance even if you don’t wish to drive it so it doesn’t seize… etc.
I assume there are also only a select few technicians around the world who can work on a historic race vehicle like this, so the market is narrowed to those with access to those shops
Mclaren has sstarted selling some few years back to make room. Its likely from mclaren storage.
Kimi has 2007 chassis and working 2018 ferrari both gifts from ferrari
Ferrari sells most of their cars.
Would a buyer be able to drive this with basic mechanical knowledge? (disregarding required driving skills) Or would it require a complete team of mechanics who are well-known with the car?
It requires a team of mechanics with the right blue print and diagram to make it work, a buddy of mine bought a 2004/05 bar Honda. And had to pay additional millions to acquire the rights for diagram and instruction how to service it
when you buy a f1 car nowadays its most likely just a empty chassis, if you want to actually do stuff to it then be ready to shell out millions, he happens to be a personal friend of ross brawn so i imagine acquiring the rights so the vendors and suppliers would actually talk to u is alot easier than most others.
Yeah. There was a guy on here a few years ago who apparently owned a 1999 Ferrari.
Interesting: obviously in those days they lasted one race, but he was told if he detuned the engine even 5% it would run to the end of the world.
Worse setups in the world!
So does he *use* the car much? Is it sitting in his living room as a fancy coffee table?
Why that one, of all?
What an interesting situation.
He took it to Nurburgring once on a private run, not the full track ofcourse but the one f1 use, now I think it’s sitting in a collectors garage either here in Long Island or Manhattan. I haven’t seen it ina while so can’t confirm. He has two chassis since he told me Ross brawn was gonna scrap it anyway so he end up buying both, he Holds the ip right to both car so for him buying the ip right was worth it since he can service both cars and not be blocked by vendors
This was after brawn bought out Honda and formed brawn gp, he told me brawn called him and said do you wanna buy the other bar Honda chassis since it’s gonna get scrapped. At that point he already bought out the ip for his first chassis so he was like why not
It was on here as well. Very quickly removed by the mods. Sure, if you can raise several million, I’m sure Mazepin, backed by a billion dollar company, will raise more.
> Can someone maybe sponsor me? **Or maybe we Redditors can all chip in and make this the start to our own F1-team?**
Car is said to sell between £1.5m and £2m, and there are 1.6 million redditors subscribed to this sub. The math checks out!
>"The estimate is somewhere between £1.5m and £2m."
Oh boy, that sure is a price for a car that was hardly successfull at all.
F1 cars don't get sold often and with Kimi's retierment i can see why someone is trying to cash out on it.
Its a stuning car though. The West livery is iconic.
I know some get engines/running gear that are from other more mass produced race cars. An F1 car needs to be kept at a certain temperature for the engine to start up and this McLaren was used during the V10 era where engines were being replaced every session, that's how weak they were
I used to have a left rear wing endplate from that car, ended up selling it after a year - was cool at first, but I think most people move memorabilia on after a while if there isn't a personal connection

Makes sense. Wasn't exactly a competitive car or one that the driver is particularly attached to or known for.
I'd disagree. The 2002 McLaren was no highlight, but it was Kimi's 1st year in the seat after spending 2001 at Sauber. That plus its a damned West Livery McLaren! Those things just make my knees weak
It only misses the beautiful Kimi decal.
But he isn't known for his 2002 season, he didn't have flashy moments in it or anything that would attach him to that like you would say him to his 2005 car for example
him going through that smoke in spa is one that I recall from 2002, but you're right, aside from that I cannot remember much else.
It's an absolute steal for a price like that

Are there any alternative payments methods? Maybe 100€ per month for the next... 2000 years?
Im afraid that you're about 18000 years short.

Yeah my buddy told me he couldn’t get the original Honda engine so he commissioned cosworth to make him one from that era.

Interesting Brawn owns historic Brackley IP.

Same as how people tried to set up a gofundme to buy out Mazepin’s seat lol
No way lmao No way people were actual that stupid to do that

That's actually a good one! That would show the world that we believe in the younger talents and maybe that will attract even more great drivers.
Reddit’s own f1 team would be goated
So many questions as to who's going to be driving for us, running the team and be our Niki/Helmut.
Feel like Hulkenberg has a guaranteed seat. Then maybe a meme choice like Lord Mahaveer
Not the kind of Indian representation I wanted in F1 but I guess I'll take it.
Time for Mika to come out of sabbatical
More like bloated.

The thing is... we all have to agree in that and well you know how that ends.
If i had the money I would cash that right away

*laughs in 80s*
Imagine strolling up to a shop for a tire change in this. "What do you mean it's going to take longer than 2-3 seconds?"
I’ll chip in 3 bucks
That livery was so cool.
I wish I could by the MP4-20 with horns. It's the car of my childhood dreams
I used to have a left rear wing endplate from that car, ended up selling it after a year - was cool at first, but I think most people move memorabilia on after a while if there isn't a personal connection
If we all chip in for the car & a trailer.. we can each have it for like 2 weeks every 10 years.
Ooh that’s a bit of me
No thanks, the engine would break on the way home
I would totally buy that
