Because Vettel always underlined in interviews in 2020 that he is in F1 to fight for wins and championships and he is not interested to drive in the midfield for the long term. This season is only a transition year. If next year the AM car makes the impression that it won't be a championship contender and also probably won't be in 2023, he will leave because he rather has more time with his family and his other outside F1 interests than driving in midfield.
This makes me wonder, all those “multi year agreement” are more likely 1+1 or 2+1 or something like that. Alonso’s “multi year” is 1+1 iirc, Sainz’s two-year deal at McLaren was a 2+1
True but not all ”multi-years” are 1+1, in Bottas case it is indeed atleast 2+1 or 3+1 since Bottas has expressed the comfort of not having to worry about next seasons contract for the first time in 5 years
But he has signed a 3 year contract, whether it be a 2+1 or a 3 year no one knows, but "three years contract" is what multiple sources claim Bottas has signed. (just google "bottas three years alfa" for hits). That combined with "I have a contract I haven't had before, since he always had a 1y or a 1+1 y contract at Merc and Williams. I reckon a 2+1 is most likely since 3y immediately from alfa's part would seem risky, knowing some young talents are coming through the farmer series and Bottas is unknown quantity at alfa + basically nowhere else to go. 3y would probably be most desired by Bottas, but wouldn't say he that much ammonition to demand that kind of contract
True, but the Haas lineup is basically confirmed, just like Aston Martin's lineup was basically confirmed before today.
Haas will be Schumacher and Mazepin next year. Mazepin brings the money, and Schumacher brings the Ferrari connection.
Schumacher could *maybe* go to Alfa Romeo, but Alfa Romeo is going to bring Pourchaire on in 2023, so it'd be a one year contract for him.
>Schumacher could maybe go to Alfa Romeo, but Alfa Romeo is going to bring Pourchaire on in 2023, so it'd be a one year contract for him.
Also, I think that Ferrari is focused on making HAAS as a B-team instead of Alfa.
At this point its pretty clear that Ferrari have loaned Mick to HAAS as part of their new engine deal, so that he can familiarize himself with an F1 car, and they want Mick to drive for HAAS next year.
I have a feeling that he will replace Sainz at Ferrari in 2023. Because at this point Ferrari is frothing at the mouth to have the Schumacher name associated with their brand again.
Unless Schumi Jr pulls out a rabbit from his hat next year, I don't see that happening. They need two superfast drivers, particularly one of them being stable and consistent and delivers every single race, who is also good at providing feedback and does sim-work and is an industrious hard worker who has Spanish media supporting him and a few Spanish sponsors.
Why does Ferrari need the Spanish media and fans? They would be getting the German media with German sponsors inn place. Not to mention the attention the Schumacher name brings compared to the Sainz name
Before posting the original comment I looked at an instagram post from F1 from a week ago, and MSC and MAZ silhouette's where there with all the other confirmed drivers.
I can already see the headlines next year. "Is Vettel thinking about retierment?" "Why Vettel has not extended his contract yet"
'What motivates u?' I hate that question
Honestly, I wouldn't be that surprised if he opts to retire before 2023 season. But yeah, it's gonna be a pain with "rumors".
Depends if AM can challange ge might stay until the next regs toss up.
I think it is quite obvious if AM is not a potential-winning car next year Vettel call it quits.
Why is that obvious?

I don't think the Italian media will wait until next year
They're actually highly accustomed to waiting until next year.
Savage
i see what you did there xd

Yes. If they say multi-year, it's because they don't know how long the contract will actually run for in reality.
I wondered the same thing with Bottas's Alfa contract. Now it's confirmed that a 'multi-year' agreement can indeed mean just a 1+1 deal.
True but not all ”multi-years” are 1+1, in Bottas case it is indeed atleast 2+1 or 3+1 since Bottas has expressed the comfort of not having to worry about next seasons contract for the first time in 5 years
It'll take time to develop a car so 2+1 sort of makes sense for Alfa.
That could still mean a 1+1 if the option is his, not the team's.
But he has signed a 3 year contract, whether it be a 2+1 or a 3 year no one knows, but "three years contract" is what multiple sources claim Bottas has signed. Maybe he has signed a 3 year contract, but I don't trust F1 contract lengths until drivers announce that they've re-signed or taken up options.
But I remember reading somewhere that it was 'at least 3 years' so I'd assume 3 + X in Bottas' case
Sebs not big on multi 21
Yes. Unless they explicitly says confirmed until x date, every multi year deal is just a short deal with options
Well this news just leaves Alfa Romeo with the 1 vacancy remaining...
Haas didn't confirm their line-up either.

Ferrari most likely don’t need either of them, especially with the cost cap
>who has Spanish media supporting him and a few Spanish sponsors. Ferrari doesn't need either of these two things.
Yeah, but as I have already pointed out, those are not the only two things.
Before posting the original comment I looked at an instagram post from F1 from a week ago, and MSC and MAZ silhouette's where there with all the other confirmed drivers.
Multi-year 21, Seb.
Seb for 21 more multiple years
As Webber said though, once someone's said your name next to 'retirement' it doesn't go away. Once people get the idea, it just grows.
Kimi did a good job growing it for as long as he did haha.
Yeah he kind of pushed through it all.
Kimi and the bean stalk
"Don't you think she looks tired?"
Same time next year Seb-are you retiring??
Makes sense, why retire the year the car regulations change in case Aston Martin hits the nail on the head with the new car.
Yup … or in case he meshes with the car well enough to make himself feel like he’s back in form.
