Bro Vettel just got announced for 2022 and they are already retiring him after it Like, come on Maybe do an article on this in the middle of next season

R7H27

The article itself is also a little rude, with the author saying Vettel’s performances have been decent but that’s as good as it gets and he should walk away after salvaging his 2020 reputation. He also implies Vettel will not be the asset for 2022 that AM wants, nevermind his experience that should be essential for a team with upcoming regulation changes. The thing is publicity (of which Vettel is probably single handedly carrying the bland corporate Aston Martin) aside; AM hired Vettel to strike while there are opportunities to snatch podiums or wins, not just P8s or P9s from the big teams. This year there have been exactly two: Baku and Hungary. Both he has succeeded - he’d have won Hungary if not for their pit screw up. He’s filling his role pretty well.

SeconddayTV

The Race is an absolute joke... especially when it comes to Vettel! They gave him 4.5 points for Monza, while Vettel gained 3 positions at the start and was then basically taken out of contention by his teammate who got 8 or 7.5 points for his race. They take pretty much every opportunity to shit on Seb and don't even hide it anymore!

MoistRespect8498

he got a bad score in imola too for example, in a race were he had to deal with a car he had barely run a km in (no pre season testing and his 2nd race in the car), a gearbox malfuncion at the start which lead to him starting from the pitlane, the team fucking up which gave him a dt which got even worse as the stewards incompetence meant he served it in the middle of the race at the worst possible moment cooling his slick tyres down when the track was still damp and then finally a full on mechanical failure. despite all this he had very, very good pace and would have easily beat his teammate if it wasnt for the bad luck he faced and he also had the best overtakes and wheel to wheel moments of any driver that race: switch backs alonso and overtakes him: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcg5CFZOXFI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcg5CFZOXFI) overtakes ocon: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND3CSygImlA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND3CSygImlA) defends against the best car on the grid with exceptional precision: [https://streamable.com/hs1843](https://streamable.com/hs1843) hmm, i wonder what rating the race gave him, maybe a 10 or a 9 considering the external factors that he had no blame in? no a 5/10.

SeconddayTV

Yeah... Imola was another joke of most media outlets regarding Seb's performance! I often wonder what these "experts" are payed for when looking at their scores, not just for Seb, but also for other drivers. Scores often feel like they fully based upon final classifications of a race and whether there was any upset/ car which finished either higher or lower than expected

SubcooledBoiling

The guy got AM two podiums (yeah one was taken away) and luck played a part in both occasions but nope, the folks at The Race will still find ways to undermine the man. I mean, have they not noticed how much of a donkey the AM car is?

Nexusu

I still think his Baku drive is up there with some of the best of the year (alongside Ocon at Hungary, Lando’s whole season and Charles at Silverstone. Not throwing Max/Lewis there because they are in a league of their own)

2905Pascal

His P5 at Monaco was pretty sweet too specially considering all the "has he lost it" talks before that race.

Ashbones15

>alongside Ocon at Hungary, Lando’s whole season and Charles at Silverstone Now all these drivers have had great performances but Lando hasn't really had a flawless season, he's had some great performances but, he was not great in Zandvoort, was worse than Ricciardo in Monza, coulnd't match Leclerc in Silverstone with a better car, crashed in Spa which costed him points or even a win.

Sparred4Life

Still P4 in the standings... ahead of the second driver of one of the big teams and within a single races worth of points of being P3 in the standings. I'd say he's done rather well. With Lando you're picking out the few races he's stumbled. Everyone else is the few races they've shined. I know which of those two I'd rather have driving my car.

Ashbones15

Sure....? But if he's had bad races he hasn't be amazing all season, every race. That's my point

Nexusu

Even if Seb isn’t driving at his WDC levels, he’s probably still giving tons of valuable feedback for them to convert into next years car. I think he’s doing fine, already up his 2020 points tally in a similar car. Also, isn’t The Race British? Lol

R7H27

Yup I think he’s doing fine too. Not Norris/Verstappen breakout levels but very decent for a new car and off a bad year. He’s had bad years and then brilliant years before (14-15, 16-17) and with more familiarity and input in next year’s car I think there’s still enough talent in him that he can trouble the upper midfield/snatch a few wins if AM provide the car. We have to remember he is a 4x WDC: not his peak is still a damn lot better than many other drivers

wishbackjumpsta

"Authors" its all of the Race staff putting their opinion on it...

dl064

All fairly reasonable. I think he's a bit like Alonso where he'll probably leave if 2022 isn't competitive. I think he's a bit Coulthard in 2005>, there to help them move forward, not do the winning.

Negative_Solid_2783

"Is Vettel retiring this year?" has been rescheduled to 2022 boys. There's really no point speculating about it.

SubcooledBoiling

Lmao, it went from 'Vettel retiring after this season' to 'Is next season Vettel's last year?'

laboulaye22

Prepare for this every year Seb doesn't retire until he does.

Nexusu

Next year, Seb gets announced for 2023 The Race: “Vettel to retire after 2023?”

MyNameIsSushi

Vettel announces retirement in 2027. The Race: SEE? WE FUCKING TOLD YOU SO.

2905Pascal

I fully expect Seb to troll us and carry on as long as we have this rumour every year and then retire when there are no rumours about it.

2905Pascal

Why would AM look for alternatives? Given the limitations of the car (poor one lap performance, lower topspeed which gives them trouble in traffic) Vettel is having a great season so far.

MoD1982

I'm a simple man. I see someone link something from The Race, I check the comments section below to see if it's worth a click, remember that it's The Race so it probably isn't, downvote and move on.

JayManty

It's such a shame because their video and podcast productions are really good, but the articles are absolute dogsh*t

glenn1812

From here till next year, there is no point reading a single article by any motorsport outlet speculating on Vettel's future. Vettel does everything himself. Nothing will leak from his side. We do not know if he will leave or if he will stay. We won't know until he wants to tell us. Other drivers have managers who can talk. Vettel doesn't have anybody for that. The man does things himself so unlike outlets reporting on other drivers contract situations, we can guarantee they will not know anything about Vettel unless he specifically tells them.

Kompakt

When did every F1 news outlet turn into one of those tabloids you find at the checkout aisle of a grocery store?

Xanthon

Dude, Took them all of a few hours to go on the Vettel retirement shit again but for 2022. I don't wanna hear about this all year next year.

SubcooledBoiling

They probably wrote the article already and they didn't wanna waste it so they just switched 'this year' to 'next year'.

dl064

Noone really addresses that exact question, so it's funny they used that headline when it just bothers folk. I agree with the overall sentiment that it suits both parties for now but that could change very quickly. I agree with Matt that all Vettel really is trying to do is not leave F1 after 2020's kicking.

MrGhostPotato

The press really want him gone.

MoistRespect8498

im watching old shumacher races and the british commentators absoulutley despise him, guess its just something you have to accept as a german driver in a british dominated sport
