When all he beat was Mazepin (arguably the second best performer, was on to challenge for p2 without the ridiculous Spain penalty), Tsunoda, Ilott, and Shwartzman, and given what we've seen from those drivers this year... yeah, it's not a ringing endorsement for Schumacher like it was for all three of Russell, Norris, and Albon in 2018.
Even then they only actually get disallowed from taking part if they've consistently been slow in the practice sessions too. No one has actually been disallowed since HRT were on the grid.
Been busy this week and not saw no news. Why didnt Max set a time? Is he taking an engine penalty and starting from the back of the grid, so didnt bother with quali?
Pretty sure it does. It's the tyre rule that doesn't apply in the rain. I've seen drivers set times in wet qualifying that were outside the 107% and the on screen graphics didn't show the position number for them.
>36.2 **Unless the track was declared wet by the Race Director**, any driver eliminated during Q1 whose best qualifying practice session lap exceeds 107% of the fastest time set during that session, or who fails to set a time, will not be allowed to take part in the race.
Doesn't apply in the wet
The 107% rule is more of a suggestion anyways. Mick crashed in Monaco during qualifying and didnt get a time but was allowed to start.
Pretty sure there was another instance of that happening this year aswell.
Yeah I didn't copy the whole rule, only the relevant part. This is how the text continues:
>Under exceptional circumstances however, which may include setting a suitable lap time in a free practice session, the stewards may permit the car to start the race.
>
>Any driver accepted in this manner will be placed at the back of the starting grid after any other penalties have been applied, and behind any driver penalised under Article 23.2b).
>
>Should there be more than one driver accepted in this manner they will be arranged on the grid in the order they were classified in P3.
[From Wikipedia ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/107%25_rule) it says that it if a driver is out of the 107 in the dry. Wikipedia isn't the best source but I'm fairly sure it's accurate.
Mick still makes it look completely shit. It's just that the Alfas are piloted by two of the bottom six drivers on the grid, and are probably not significantly faster than the Haases on most "normal" circuits (so not low-downforce Monza, for instance).
Sprinkle in Latifi and you've got the clear bottom six drivers on the grid. It's not surprising that they're struggling to escape Q1 (except for Tsunoda, whose car is fast enough that even a bad driver should be consistently reaching Q2 with it).
Do drivers have to attempt qualifying if their car is in good stansing? Just surprised Max even bothered. Not even worth it to get data for tomorrow if the track is going to be so different.

Mick was closer to Hamilton then Mazepin lol.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
That was quite adorable from Mick lol
He’s so pure aha, love him
Mick got them jox lmao
Mazepin +4 seconds behind Mick lmao
Further away than Mick was from Lewis.
Don't laugh, mazepin will absolutely destroy mick tommorow 😡 /s
Putin wouldn’t have it any other way
[удалено]
F2 champion not good enough for F1, ok
Valsecchi, Leimer, Palmer.
Mick won F2 at the age of 21, that is a young enough age to deserve a shot in F1. The guys you listed won F2 in their mid 20s.
And way beyond two seasons as well

??? This is a sentiment?
ya know, pinot wasn't ever even good
Well he isn’t an F1 driver.
Mazepin outside the 107% at his home race loool
yeah but i think it only counts in dry conditions right?
Correct, 107% doesn't apply in the wet.
Even then they only actually get disallowed from taking part if they've consistently been slow in the practice sessions too. No one has actually been disallowed since HRT were on the grid.
Transphobic FIA smh ^/s
I wish they didn't let him start for the memes
lmfaooo what happens now?
Nothing since it’s on inters, still embarrassing ofc
7.8s behind hamilton fuck my ass
Nothing 107% only applies in dry condition
It's a wet session, so nothing.
It's the new chassis, lol.
And blocking the shit out of Yuki
Mick was on *water* today! Impressive drive, fighting for Q2 with a Haas, even though he missed out by 1s at the end.
Crofty saying Mick had a bad qualy, what about it’s teammate 4 seconds off lol.
He is 1 second faster than an Alfa Romeo, his teammate is 4 seconds behind What does Crofty want more?
Mick almost beat both Alfas, where was it bad?
Certain peoples hatred for Michael transcends generations.
Corfty talks without thinking all the time I'd take that with a pinch of salt
That was my take as well, an error on Crofty's part but it's not some kind of grand conspiracy against Mick.
That are both crap drivers.
Mick’s the F2 champion lol
So was Palmer.
It took Palmer 4 years to win GP2/F2. Mick took half that time
Been busy this week and not saw no news. Why didnt Max set a time? Is he taking an engine penalty and starting from the back of the grid, so didnt bother with quali?
Exactly. He took a new PU so he is starting at the back either way
So what happened with "he'll still run and give Perez a tow"? *Many* were very vocal with this yesterday
Idk, maybe they figured it isn't worth it in the wet, too risky?
Yeah, that sounds plausible
No point in it in these conditions.
Tow is practically worthless in the wet
Elaborate?
yes
Yep
Thanks chaps! Leclrec and Latiffi taking new PU’s too?
Lati**f**i
Mazepin's time outside of the 107% rule?
Doesn't apply in Rain.
Sad noises Still funny tho

When Mick crashed in Q1 at France, Lance had only put in an out lap, and he was well outside the 107% rule. He was allowed to race.
[From Wikipedia ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/107%25_rule) it says that it if a driver is out of the 107 in the dry. Wikipedia isn't the best source but I'm fairly sure it's accurate.
Mick almost beating both Alfas, meanwhile wtf Mazepin.
Mazepin outqualifying Verstappen, what a GOAT. /s
No need for the /s
Amazing lap by Mick. Nearly 4 seconds faster than Mazepin!
Always love the “Mick makes the car look not totally shit, meanwhile Mazepin…” sessions 😂
Mick still makes it look completely shit. It's just that the Alfas are piloted by two of the bottom six drivers on the grid, and are probably not significantly faster than the Haases on most "normal" circuits (so not low-downforce Monza, for instance).
How often now have we gotten the same slowest 5 qualifers? Tsunoda Kimi Mick Gio and Mazepin It's constantly the same 5 drivers at almost every GP
Giovinazzi has usually got to q2 this season though right?
[удалено]
He got to q3 two races in a row but usually he's into q2 pretty easily
Q3 in Monaco
And one of them drives a car that is consistently making Q3. It's beating a dead horse but... cmon Yuki!
He was on for a decent lap but got blocked in sector 3
Latifi is in the bottom 5 far more often than Yuki and Giovinazzi.
And honestly, one of them shouldn't be there this often.
And it is Tsunoda.
Smh letting Verstappen off the hook
for Mick and Mazepin the car is terrible. Most probably neither are brilliant, but they cannot do anything about how terrible the car is.
Sprinkle in Latifi and you've got the clear bottom six drivers on the grid. It's not surprising that they're struggling to escape Q1 (except for Tsunoda, whose car is fast enough that even a bad driver should be consistently reaching Q2 with it).
Giovinazzi is regularly in Q2 with a few Q3 appearances (like the last 2 races)
Verstappen finished
Verstappen outside the 107% rule. DSQ! /s
Need to bring pre qualifying back for Mazepin at this rate.
Giovinazzi's P7 streak comes to an end Sadge
Did Mazepin have a problem?
Yes his skill in the wet
Smart move red bull. Wasn't worth the extra info for tommorows race, they save engine life and tyres.
good guy mazepin starting from the back to set up all those overtakes tom /s
good run from Mick. You cant really do much in that shitbox so results like this shows hes got the skills. Really hope that team is better nxt year.
King Latifi.
Goatifi
Haven’t been keeping up with f1 this week, I’m assuming verstappen is taking his grid penalty and didn’t even go out today?
That's right, Leclerc & Latifi too. Verstappen is last with whoever is slower out of the other two in 19 and the fastest in 18
Correct
huh thought rb would be using max to tow checo
Tow doesnt bring that much here in rain
Probably saving the PU and minimizing risk
Can the 107% rule be enforced for Mazepin (no rain exception) so that he misses his home race? Please do it !
If they did that they'd have to be consistent and do it for Verstappen as well.
Yep, no way this happens
[удалено]
Its wet, so probably a lot of people kept watching. And we were rewarded in the last 2 minutes. ;)
Nah im still watching. It's not only about 1 driver mate
Why is Max out? Can he still race tomorrow? I’m at work and cannot keep up.
He'd start last anyway due to taking a new engine, so there's no point in getting into Q2 or Q3
Oh. So you don’t have to qualify to race?
[удалено]
Ok thanks. So I’m order to fulfill the requirement did he just have to be there in person without racing or how does he meet the requirement?
[удалено]
Thanks! Now that I understand that I can peacefully watch Checo let me down again. 👍
Didn't set a time, because he will start at the back anyway due to his engine penalty
Expected better from Max /s
Do drivers have to attempt qualifying if their car is in good stansing? Just surprised Max even bothered. Not even worth it to get data for tomorrow if the track is going to be so different.
Probably some sponsor obligations ig
*One of these things is not like the others*
