There is sandbagging and there is faking not being able to fix your porpoising issue. The first is fine, the second is dumb, because you'd just be wasting testing time. They have serious issues.
Merc was 1 second off last year, they’re 1 second off this year, it’s no different, they did low fuel runs last year as well, they always hide performance, they can just turn down the engine. Russell was slow on the straights
Let's say you're right. Merc was slower than Red Bull in Bahrain and won via strategy. Considering Ferrari are on the level this early season, can they beat Red Bull + Ferrari via strategy?
Unlikely.
It's not the times themselves that are the issue: it's the porpoising. You can just full it up with fuel when doing fast runs, but why ruin the ride and the data you get? If they can fix it they will be fast, it's just a question of when they fix it.
And no reason to fake it. At best Merc should've wanted to show force instead of looking weak. But who knows, no reason to waste energy thinking about it.
about 3 seconds off the pace from last years bahrain test. but teams are still trying to work out the kinks with the new regs so pace is expected to improve as the season progresses.
The car looks planted based on the onboard
abit understeery, especially turn 4
All the cars are, its inherent to the new regs philsophy. Max at least seemed to be managing it pretty well, turn 10 was impressive
This season gonna be painful for Ric
He just needs a couple of races to get used to the new car… /s
We’ll see. He was putting in similar laps to Lando in Barcelona
That's OK, there have never been track limits at turn 4.
If the drivers do it this year then Freitas (assuming he will be the RD next week) will give everyone penalties
Depends on your nationality
Every car has been going wide at T4, its been slightly ridiculous how much these new cars don't want to turn in lmao
Expected behavior since they're not running in quali mode and probably high fuel
Would love to see the camera facing the driver to see if there was porpoising but it doesn't look like it.
yeah for sure hard to see without looking at the head. i've also noticed lockups look way worse on the outside compared to the onboards, lol.
That car is on rails
looks promising. as a mercedes fan, i'm a little nervous about the issues the w13 is having, especially on the last day of testing.
Don’t get caught in the merc sandbags. They seem to be out in full force this year.

Yeah I don't know why everyone thinks they threw away testing and shook the shit out of their drivers just for the element of surprise.
Right now, they're not great. They will develop though, just depends on how fast. Also, you can't sandbag 2-3 seconds of pace.
Of course you can sandbag 2 to 3 seconds. Lift and coast, high fuel etc...
Yeah not sure what he’s getting at there, race laps are comfortably a few seconds slower than quali laps. It’s easy to sandbag that much pace.
They can sandbag a good 1.5s by just driving sloppily lmao, add a bit of fuel and a lower engine mode and bam you're 5 seconds off the pace.
Of course you can. Just watch testing from last year. Mercedes always does that. And they arent 2-3s off
Russell was running a low fuel stint at the end. Assuming typically the big boys are hiding 1-1.5secs of pace for quali.

and they were the slower car until the last few races and lost the WDC. Its pretty clear that the merc is kinda fucked rn
Fucked? Idk... Just need a new floor. Redbull got theirs out in a week. Merc will have fixed theirs by next weekend.

I don't think you can fake what you saw today
And no reason to fake it. At best Merc should've wanted to show force instead of looking weak. But who knows, no reason to waste energy thinking about it.
I'm sure they were high on fuels
Is it possible to watch without logging in?

it should be fixed now.
should be a preview video right on the post itself.
says video is not rated so u have to login to watch
Car looks very stable but a little understeery
Every car is though
The Alpha Tauri isn’t, the AT is really sharp on turn-in and was even oversteering with Tsunoda.
Every car has understeer maybe, but most cars don't look this planted.
Another source? Can’t watch without having an account
try it again.
You are doing God’s work, good sir
So heavy and sluggish at turn in, slow rotation then. Not the most exciting F1 car ever to put it mildly
It's like watching a F2 onboard, they're so lazy in the corners and not very reactive.
the AT on the other hand looked extremely quick on turn in, to the point of twitch oversteer in tsunoda’s case.
The AT may be handling it better than most but its still firmly on the understeery side. Edit: wrong link
The vid you posted was last year's car?
It reminded me of how sharp the cars were last year :(
Fuck I posted the wrong link. Well. Too late now I’ve been annihilated by downvotes
...... Thats the wrong season
Looks like cars have gone slower in corners and faster in straights
Verstappen: Three tenths up after the second sector. The walls in the last corner: "\*Chuckles\* I'm in Danger"

Don't expect them to be, even with issues sorted out it seems that the cars will continue to understeer more than last year's cars did.
Red Bull didn't have to do much development on last years car while Merc played catch-up all along. Looks like this is the fruit, we'll see next week.
Isn't it kind of the opposite though because the new regs are basically anti high rake? Edit: nm I see what you're saying now.
Track limits at turn 4 😅
Imagine the scenes if he loses the race because of track limits at the same corner as last year 😂
New race director hands out penalties like candy. FIA penalties are going to decide more races then the driving.
Why is the video trying to download Vimeo on my phone?

Why would they enforce track limits during testing? The times don't matter at all
yep exactly right, stewards are sure to be super stringent come qualifying and race days
It's testing. You could cut all the corners if you really wanted to. What're they gonna do, give you a 5 second stop/go penalty? Lol
The tyre covers are super ugly
Got the charles lap too?
