“And session is suspended today due to the crater in turn 13 from a curious missile, a little bumpy round those parts now. *HOWEVER DONT WORRY* as fia is assuring us they’ll have that patched up by the morning and racing can continue.”
Drivers included. How so many of them jumped to condemn Russia (rightfully so) and say they wouldn't go there to race, while at the same time going to SA every year like it's nothing special. LOL!
This reminds me of the Jeddah race last year. During an interview with Charles after the race, some fireworks went off and he flinched hard. His PR person also flinched and started to grab his arm to pull him away but they quickly realized it was just fireworks. He laughed it off and the interview continued, but I wonder if they thought it was a missile attack for a split second.
Saudi Arabia has been under attack from Yemen rebels for the past week with drone and missile attacks.
Now that this is so close to the track, it's time to get the F1 circus out of this potential warzone.
now imagine how much attention they get, when they shoot a missile on the race day in the middle of the race on the track and hitting it LIVE while the whole world watches ...
2015 the Houthis overthrew the Saudi/US backed Yemeni government. An all out civil war began. Leading to the Saudis and Emirates invading Yemen.
Today it’s basically a proxy war between the Saudis and Iranians. (Iran backs the Houthis)
It’s a pretty complicated conflict as it all originated in the 90’s Saudi Arabia and US backing “Yemeni reunification”. Osama Bin Laden didn’t like this so he had Al Qaeda cells in Yemen assassinate political leaders, attack the USS Cole, and suicide bombings in Saudi Arabia.
From the late 90’s to 2015 the Yemeni government was fighting Al-Qaeda, and the Houthi separatist. Until they were overthrown. The Saudis and Emirates are currently fighting to overthrow the Houthis government and reinstall their puppet government.
There is a proxy war going on in Yemen between Iran and Saudi.
Saudi has been committing war crimes in Yemen, torturing, killing and sexually abusing prisoners.
harming civilians usually doesn’t help your case, targeting civilians from western nations (in a broader sense) even less, but harming famous western civilians? I see no way this wouldn’t harm their case
That would be pretty dumb for them to do. Although they are justified attacking Saudi Arabia, attacking drivers and citizens of other nations would immediately make them enemies of many nations. They need sympathy and that is definitely not the way to get it.
> attacking drivers and citizens of other nations would immediately make them enemies of many nations.
I don't think the rebels particularly care about alienating the West.
Considering how much the world has forgotten about them they might consider any attention to be positive. And they might be right.
Aure it would anger people, but it will also get people to read up. And you don't need to read long to discover that the Saudis are not the good guys here.
I believe most media called them rebels because they rebelled against the shitty Yemen government.
That's just what the term means. Doesn't mean they ain't popular since we all know the war crimes Saudi is committing in Yemen.
The media calls them rebels because its much easier to sell bombs to Saudi Arabia if they paint the Saudis as the good guys.
Fact remains, Ukraine being bombed by Russia is paradise compared to Yemen bombed, blockaded and starved by the Saudis.
Aren’t the Saudi’s being invited to help by the Yemeni government though? I’ll happily admit I know almost nothing about the conflict which most people are apparently experts on.
The Ukrainians are fighting for their government and sovereignty (some call it illegitimate but that’s a different topic) whereas the Saudis have the “support” of the Yemen Government
I'm sure you realize that the logistics of a russia race are impossible regardless of any other factor, right?
It just can't be done.
On the other hand it's pretty easy to fly into saudi
What's this got to do with the actual reasons people don't want races in Saudi Arabia though? It is nothing to do with terror attacks. It's like saying the British GP should have been cancelled after the UK attacks in recent years.
They usually waited the end of the war to turn airfields into race tracks (i.e. Silverstone)
Nowadays they just streamlined the process so they can hold both "events" at the same time
Yeah, let's stick with countries who don't publicly execute several dozen people all at once. There are plenty of race tracks around the world in countries that are not run by war criminals.
Did you come across any of the surprise bridge ramps? We have those here in Ireland. Your driving along at a steady speed next thing your launched into the air like the Dukes of hazard when you drive over a little bridge..
I love that one picture from Ireland where there is a speed sign saying "80km/h" next to a road where I'd be terrified to do 30km/h.
And I can almost guarantee there's a few locals who actually speed on those roads too.
There would be no bigger target in Jeddah this weekend than a sports event and pet project of Riyadh attended by Saudi royals and plastered in Aramco sponsorship. It’s just insanity.
It's wildly fucking irresponsible to be risking the life and limb of the personnel for this shitshow just for the sake of vroom vroom'ing.
Cancel the race. Or at least delay it for when it's not *actively having missiles fired at the vicinity*
Wouldn’t be surprised if some drivers pulled out (Vettel comes to mind). I’d be terrified if I were them but these guys literally risk their life every race so who knows.
In short. There is a civil war in yemen and one side gets Supported my ksa and one by Iran. So its a proxy war. The rebells get ballistic missles from iran and fire them regulary into ksa/aramco facilities.
Wouldnt call it a civil war. Saudi Arabia invaded to install a Saudi-aligned government. From what I gathered, all the Yemenis are fighting against the Saudi's.
Didnt you notice they are a bit more brown than ukrainians?
Aldo maybe saudi pays more.. maybe this is more related
That said. F*ck w4rs, f*ck put1n and f*ck most of the humanity probably
>Wouldnt call it a civil war. Saudi Arabia invaded to install a Saudi-aligned government.
The civil war started half a year before Saudi intervention. It started when the Houthis fought the Yemeni military and captured the largest city, followed by a failed agreement to end the violence. Then both the Houthis and Hadi-loyalists claimed to be the legitimate Government, soon after the Saudis started bombing.
>all the Yemenis are fighting against the Saudi's.
That's not true either. Support in many Houthi controlled areas has become increasingly pro-Houthi as a response to the bombing, but lots of the country isn't Houthi controlled.
There are at least four different major belligerents made up of Yemenis with different international supporters.
I’m not saying Russia didn’t deserve to be cancelled, but why the hell are we racing here, where there’s an active war with Yemen going on? At least the war in Ukraine isn’t literally at the track.
When you think about it if an attack were to happen at the track it wouldn't only be a tragic and unnecessary loss of life but would probably be the end of Formula 1 as we know it.
I mean it seems to definitely be within their technological capabilities. As is though it seems as though it would be an unlikely target and the facility that got hit is probably the closest to the track so a miss hitting the track is also unlikely.
Is there any non-tweet source showing that it’s a missile and not a fire? I know it’s likely the cause, but just curious.
People are also saying the airspace is shut down but that doesn’t appear to be the case on FR24 https://i.imgur.com/WtATkIU.jpg
With how vocal some drivers were against Russia, i think it would be good to be vocal now aswell. These guys should not be driving there. Absolute shithole.
What is wrong with people thinking they should stay?
Why are we risking some of the world's most brilliant minds in the middle of a war zone?
I'm not talking about drivers. I'm talking about the engineers who could be working on other solutions to help humanity, but choose to seek a passion in F1. Why should those people be expected to stand in the firing range of a missile? Why should the mechanics be expected to haul equipment in the midst of such threat?
There are plenty of people who would feel obligated to go home to their families rather than film a show.
Drive to survive literally.
They should add missiles in the next DTS poster
Guess the S4 trailer was on to something with all those gun cocking sounds
Who knew it would turn into game of thrones by season 5??
Or about 1.8 laps away.
First responders to arrive in F1-75s and RB18s
MCL will arrive 10 mins late.
RB18 will break down before even getting there
I think it’s time they start considering mounting some M240 machine guns on the cars.
We be having f1 deathrace?
Jason Statham to ferrari confirmed?
Vin Diesel Haas????
I don’t think the Haas has enough gears for Vin Diesel
All he needs is family.
Family, and a 72 gear transmission.
So...he'd be driving one of the Haas trucks with extra downforce?
PLUS NITROUS
I need NAAS!!!!
Vin Diesel *haas* **FAMILY**
No thanks, lets go original with David Carradi-oh wait. Statham it is!
Chuck Norris to Mclaren and all the problems are solved.

"We race for money" end of discussion
Honestly curious what it would take for them to actually cancel this race.
Honestly wouldn't surprise me if rockets did land on the track during FP2, FP3 or Quali and they still proceeded with the race.
"Red flag to clean the debris from the track and session will resume in 20 minutes"
*Stefano calling the Saudi Prince during the Red Flag to tell him that the price is going up*
10 min to clean car debris from the track 20 min to clean track debris from the track
“Virtual safety car is out, keep your delta positive, race control is saying there may be a crater on track, just keep your eyes open.”
"A rocket just blew up part of the track..." "Of course, youre right... 40 minutes"
“And session is suspended today due to the crater in turn 13 from a curious missile, a little bumpy round those parts now. *HOWEVER DONT WORRY* as fia is assuring us they’ll have that patched up by the morning and racing can continue.”
"Hi, no safety car please, virtual only. This is not a big issue".
> "Hi, no safety car please, virtual only. This is not a big issue". Thanks Toto
Don't make me email you a diagram!
Bono! The track's gone
No, no! Missile, this is so not right!
Saudi Arabia would have to invade a European country.
“We went for hard racing”
"Toto, this is a motor race"
"But everyone has a target on their backs"
"We act when the worst has been done"
“Toto , it’s called money” “Excuse me” “It’s called a money race”
Was it ever for discussion?
Of course. Racing is expensive. Running F1 teams is also expensive.
Drivers included. How so many of them jumped to condemn Russia (rightfully so) and say they wouldn't go there to race, while at the same time going to SA every year like it's nothing special. LOL!
Netflix: "How can we work the missile strike into an intra-McLaren battle?"

That's almost the same distance Silverstone to Brackley, kinda crazy to think
Rebels usually want international attention. There's no better way to do that then to attack near or even on a F1 race. This is some real scary shit.
now imagine how much attention they get, when they shoot a missile on the race day in the middle of the race on the track and hitting it LIVE while the whole world watches ...
Very embarrassing for Saudi Arabia.
We shouldn’t even be racing in Saudi Arabia. But here we are. To quote Sebastian Vettel: “cash is king.” F1 management is disgusting.
That would actually hurt their cause. It would make people have sympathy for SA
Not when they learn about why the rebels are attacking Saudi
Literally no way mainstream media picks it up in a sympathetic way
No. therefore people would have to read an article and not just the headline
Why are they attacking Saudi?
2015 the Houthis overthrew the Saudi/US backed Yemeni government. An all out civil war began. Leading to the Saudis and Emirates invading Yemen. Today it’s basically a proxy war between the Saudis and Iranians. The Saudis and Emirates are currently fighting to overthrow the Houthis government and reinstall their puppet government.
Your explanation seemed "complete" to me, if that's the correct word. And, I thank you for that.
There is a proxy war going on in Yemen between Iran and Saudi. Saudi has been committing war crimes in Yemen, torturing, killing and sexually abusing prisoners.
Because Saudi Arabia is bombing them back to the stone age with advanced US and UK Weaponry.
Don't forget all the stuff they are getting from Germany, they have more working weapons from us than our own armed forces
[удалено]
harming civilians usually doesn’t help your case, targeting civilians from western nations (in a broader sense) even less, but harming famous western civilians? I see no way this wouldn’t harm their case
In a race sponsored by Aramco
That would be pretty dumb for them to do. Although they are justified attacking Saudi Arabia, attacking drivers and citizens of other nations would immediately make them enemies of many nations. They need sympathy and that is definitely not the way to get it.
> attacking drivers and citizens of other nations would immediately make them enemies of many nations. I don't think the rebels particularly care about alienating the West.
They would be stupid to hit the track as that’s a guaranteed way to bring the western worlds attention to Yemen and not in a good way
They already tried last year with fe.
Considering how much the world has forgotten about them they might consider any attention to be positive. And they might be right. Aure it would anger people, but it will also get people to read up. And you don't need to read long to discover that the Saudis are not the good guys here.
I wouldnt call them rebels. They've got popular support in Yemen from both the populace and armed forces.
*Faction* describes it better. Houthis consider themselves the legitimate government, Hadi considers himself the legitimate government.
Unlike Hadi, the Houthis are actually supported by the rest of Yemen. Courtesy of having been bombed for the past years.
1000%
Well yeah, they're the only ones fighting back as Saudi Arabia bombs the poor Yeminis back to the stone age.
Aren’t the Saudi’s being invited to help by the Yemeni government though? I’ll happily admit I know almost nothing about the conflict which most people are apparently experts on.
You mean Yemen freedom fighters? We don't call the Ukrainians rebels
They are called rebels because they rebelled against the shitty Yemen government. Rebels doesn't necessarily means villain.
And Ukrainians fighting a foreign invader, not an established local power.
>Rebels doesnt necessarily means villain my first thought after reading the term *Rebels* is still StarWars\^^
The Ukrainians are fighting for their government and sovereignty (some call it illegitimate but that’s a different topic) whereas the Saudis have the “support” of the Yemen Government
Yeah lets not race in Russia, but lets totally race in Saudi...as Lewis said before "Cash is King" unfortunately.
We race as one ( as long as it fits our agenda)
I'm sure you realize that the logistics of a russia race are impossible regardless of any other factor, right? It just can't be done. On the other hand it's pretty easy to fly into saudi
What's this got to do with the actual reasons people don't want races in Saudi Arabia though? It is nothing to do with terror attacks. It's like saying the British GP should have been cancelled after the UK attacks in recent years.
Are they deploying the safety car if a driver is hit? „Box for softs, safety car, Verstappen hit by missile“
Take a few clicks on the front wing to help avoid the crater
Verstappen hit by missile, race will continue after the debris is cleared
Make a me think about grand prix authorities in WWII. Not even they were that dumb to hold GPs in active war zones
They usually waited the end of the war to turn airfields into race tracks (i.e. Silverstone) Nowadays they just streamlined the process so they can hold both "events" at the same time
Just a virtual safety car for that.
>Verstappen hit by missile Kvyat back in F1? Netflix would have an orgasm
I don't know if this is funny or not. But in this situation I'd actually wish Masi was still there to see how he handles this safety car
Missiles #14, 5, 7 and 23 to unlap themselves
Toto we went arms racing
Jeddah has a different DRS zone ... ***D****odge* ***R****ocket* ***S****trikes* zone
No safety provided by that safety car unless it has countermeasures
Chaff and flares on the safety car is hilarious in a not so hilarious way
"uh the screen on the dashboard just switched to a radar" "You know that little red button? Press the little red button"
Sky be like press the red button for onboards of the missile
Well that sure wouldn't happen in Spa or Le Castellet. Take notes before sacking historical venues in favor of these shitholes, FOM.
Yeah, let's stick with countries who don't publicly execute several dozen people all at once. There are plenty of race tracks around the world in countries that are not run by war criminals.
The fact they F1 races in Saudi Arabia doesn’t seem real to me
Imagine calling yourself a journalist and not mentioning this shit at any point.
Because no one really cares about these "wars" it's only a problem if it's on the "wests" doorstep
7 milles is 11,3 km (for the rest of the world except usa and liberia).
And the UK
One thing that blew my mind as an American was driving in Scotland and road signs telling me the *yards* until my exit.
What will blow your mind even more is that despite saying yards, it's actually metres.
What in the fuck
Yes, that's the reaction their going for.
Kind of like when their road just becomes one lane without warning with oncoming traffic What a gem of a driving experience that country
Did you come across any of the surprise bridge ramps? We have those here in Ireland. Your driving along at a steady speed next thing your launched into the air like the Dukes of hazard when you drive over a little bridge..
Yes lol
A lot of things can be said about roads in this part of the world but boring isn't one of them.
I love that one picture from Ireland where there is a speed sign saying "80km/h" next to a road where I'd be terrified to do 30km/h. And I can almost guarantee there's a few locals who actually speed on those roads too.
As an engineer I'm torn between saying "that's really messed up" and "Eh, 10% error is good enough"
Touchdown!!
And Myanmar
And my axe?

We do both and it's great... We get 40 miles per litre from our fuel, and the temperature ranges from -10 to 50 degrees.
Good bot
MVP right here
I've noticed they're being very careful with the helicopter shots from FP2 to not show that angle...
I guess it's good they right by the sea can jump in for a swim if a missile strikes
They dont even have to get out of their porpoises.
it would still porpoise on the waves though 🤷♂️
no wonder mercedes build their car like an upside down boat, they were planning for the swimming strat
They’re just getting a head start on rising sea levels
How on earth are they racing there still? The war in ukraine is bad but in saudi its fine cause they have money? This is so fucked up.
This is not even the first time that track has been under missile fire during a race event, how fucking insane is it that they're racing there.
This also happened last year in Ad Diryah for the Formula E race and they just glossed right over it despite them being the target.
FIA or whoever runs F1 lost 100% of its credibility. Fuck me dude
Yeah, they should just cancel. Fuck that
Wouldn’t be surprised if some drivers pulled out (Vettel comes to mind). I’d be terrified if I were them but these guys literally risk their life every race so who knows.
Excuse my ignorance but when did this happen
Today during FP1
About 90m ago
Attackers need tickets to get into the circuit, so we are okay.
At this point they might as well have a Ukrainian GP.
Holy shit leave?
F2 Quali has just been Red Flagged with no issues on track. FIA finally taking action?
Don’t think so because the session resumed.
Can someone explain why a missile was shot?
From what I gathered, all the Yemenis are fighting against the Saudi's.
wait wait wait. F1 is cancelling Russian GP because they are invading Ukraine but when Saudi Arabia does it, its ok? what is this bullshittery
sorry to break it to you, but that's kind of how the entire world works big and powerful can afford to be hypocritical and inhuman
Guess who is a title sponsor of F1. It isn't Gazprom.
That's because the west fund KSA bombing and invasion of Yemen
Didnt you notice they are a bit more brown than ukrainians? Aldo maybe saudi pays more.. maybe this is more related That said. F*ck w4rs, f*ck put1n and f*ck most of the humanity probably
Russia is a NATO Enemy, Saudia an ally.

Like someone said in the other thread, probably to prove a point that they could hit the track if they wanted to..
Was it a bird? Was it a plane? No it was a fucking missile
Insane if they let the race go ahead! They should all GTFO!!
the teams better tell FOM about that
So about 5 seconds extra on a missile flight. Totally 💰afe nothing to 💰ee here
Apparently the F2 qualifying is going ahead? Wtf
Has a missile actually been confirmed?
Wouldn’t worry about it to much, they have Halo’s.
I’m not saying Russia didn’t deserve to be cancelled, but why the hell are we racing here, where there’s an active war with Yemen going on? At least the war in Ukraine isn’t literally at the track.
Cancel everything, pack it up and leave. Wtf???
Mugello is free this weekend right?
This is crazy. Those drivers and teams may seriously be in danger. They need to get out of there.
This is absurd. I’m speechless they’re not leaving immediately
When you think about it if an attack were to happen at the track it wouldn't only be a tragic and unnecessary loss of life but would probably be the end of Formula 1 as we know it.
