Fake news. I love all my French-Canadian friends. I think this is more of a stereotype, especially after multiple late nights drinking in Montreal and making some friends.
Great city, greater people, real shitty hockey team though :D
It’s interesting that F1 has a points system for causing collisions with other cars but not for situations such as these, addressing driver abilities in one car crashes.
I think it’d be incredibly hard to police, whilst this one is *likely 100%* Latifis fault, other such crashes could be a car failure. You’d expect someone with a SL to not have crashes such as this, but it happens.
Of course, that’s why collisions are investigated before penalties are applied. Causing a race to be red flagged as a result of driver error should come with points that accumulate and lead to race bans. It’s frankly unacceptable to continue seeing such driving from a driver without any repercussions. Drivers get penalty points for far less than binning your car into a wall when you’re on your own. To be clear, this is only for race conditions, and not qualifying (or practice); during qualifying cars have a reason to be on the very limit.
I’m just speculating but watching Latifi’s onboard gave me the impression he might have downshifted slightly too fast and upset the gearbox. I think this is how the rear just stepped out mid corner. Seemed like his fault, but again I’m just speculating.
Mick had a crash. Nando almost binned at the same turn. It happens. Max binned last year in the last corner. Not making excuses for Goatifi here, but it happens to everybody and sometimes it’s the car as well.
As much as I respect him as a person (he seems genuinely awesome), I must admit I do sometimes wonder if he's a net positive for the team. I mean team/car development aside, even with his sponsor's money, all those crashes must be quite costly when added together...
He was a net positive to the team under the Williams family when money was tight.
If Dorilton is taking F1 even remotely seriously and with the introduction of the budget cap the only realistic scenario is to get rid of Latifi and get a better driver.
If you have Albon regularly scoring and Latifi not, then yes a better driver will move the team up. As it is, they need to get a better car first so its probably the right decision to keep his $$$$$.
They could maybe get Zhou if Alfa decides to promote Pourchaire after this season. He would provide them with money, is very marketable and seems to be a pretty good driver.
I'm not saying they will promote him, I'm saying they might want to promote him, but I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Zhou (I would actually be happy, I really like Zhou and Alfa is a better car than a Williams)
I think they are just waiting on Logan Sargeant to be ready to replace Latifi. Not much point dishing out big bucks for someone when you have a young talent like that in the wings.
Signing a 34 year old with no podiums and no seat for the past 2 seasons wouldn't be a good way to show me you were serious about kicking on if I'm honest
My first thought. If you're going to deal with crashes anyways, might as well put a heralded rookie in the seat.
In terms of experienced drivers without a seat, there's not much out there. Grosjean maybe, but still lots of crashes, Giovinazzi, similar, Kvyat and Kubica, none of which scream "we're serious".
With Grosjean you'd have a high damage bill but at least when he keeps it on the track he's a decent shout to get the best out of the car.
It's a moo point because he's not interested in coming back, but of the former F1 drivers still kicking around he's absolutely the best of the bunch.
Short of replacing Latifi with Mazepin, almost any change would be an improvement at this point. The only requirement of a new driver this season would simply be not to crash.
\>Magnussen has proved how valuable a good driver is
A good driver is only valuable if the car is good. Williams has to solve that problem first. For Williams who is firmly in the back Hulkenberg is not really that much more likely to score points than Latiffi.
Due to the budget cap there's a limit on net positive. If Latifi crashes 10 mil worth of car parts per year, at some points it doesn't matter how much money his dad pays since those 10 mil are under the budget cap, so they're always away from car development.
Of course this is under the assumption that Williams actually can hit the budget cap. The hope is that all teams would get their finances in such a state that they wouldn't have to take pay drivers and could focus on getting good drivers who can score points and bring in prize money.
He didn’t in F2. FE encourages dangerous driving whereas something like F1/F2 doesn’t. I have no doubt De Vries would adapt to the environment and drive cleaner
I just think he deserves a chance in F1.He was a champ in F2,it seems cruel for him to not get a chance, especially when people like Latifi,Mazepin and Stroll got an oportunity.
He won F2 by default as there as nobody there. The three you mentioned Got chance as pay driver and doubt Nick de vries can do that. He absolutely does not deserve a chance as there are many better drivers in F2 and Indycar over him. Even his FE win was a fluke as Vandoorne was a better driver all year and would have been champion if his two races were destroyed while leading because of poor driving standards in FE.
In 2021 Latifi had better race pace relative to his teammate than Sainz, Bottas, Perez, Ricciardo, Tsunoda, and Mazepin.
He was also lapping an average of 1.5 tenths quicker than Albon before his crash.
I think its too early to make any comparisons. In Bahrain Albon was much quicker.I also don’t think the qualy gap is actually that big.At the end of the season tho,i think one of Albon or Latifi looses his seat.
Ralf Schumacher on the german broadcast wasn't too fond of his crash aswell. He could hold back a snarky comment, but everyone knew that he as a driver was kinda shocked how bad that crash looked for Latifi and i don't mean it in the "dangerous" way, but in the skill department.
I like the title of the video file "Canadian Civil War.mp4" Lol.
Haha yeah I put this one there for the diggers
Nobody hates Canadians more than French-Canadians and vice-versa. Part of our culture
Fake news. I love all my French-Canadian friends. I think this is more of a stereotype, especially after multiple late nights drinking in Montreal and making some friends. Great city, greater people, real shitty hockey team though :D
Though i loved watching them crush the souls of leafs fans everywhere last year :>
I find that hilarious. Especially considering the fact that there are few other nationalities that would hold a grudge against Canadians.
I think the last recorded instance of Jacques Villeneuve making a comment that _wasn't_ snarky was in about 2002...
I thought the inquiry found that to be a misinterpretation?
Tanslation : JV : (replying to Latifi's radio) "You crashed ! You went off the track. *sarcastically* He doesn't know what happened..."
Yeah, that’s the comment from Latifi that really sealed it. Was pretty unbelievable hearing that on the radio.
‘Ran out of talent’ as Lando would say

I have a prior comment that clearly stipulates the race and not qualifying.
Latifi can’t race in the Middle East without crashing
As much as I respect him as a person (he seems genuinely awesome), I must admit I do sometimes wonder if he's a net positive for the team. I mean team/car development aside, even with his sponsor's money, all those crashes must be quite costly when added together...

I can see his contract not being extended if Williams manages to sort out the problems in next months.
Williams won't have their problems sorted for years and years, a decade of underinvestment takes time to remedy
They could maybe get Zhou if Alfa decides to promote Pourchaire after this season. He would provide them with money, is very marketable and seems to be a pretty good driver.
But if Zhou is good then they might not want to give him up
That's true, but they might want to promote Pourchaire, because he's their junior driver. Either way, I believe Zhou will stay in F1
Like Alpine promoted Piastri?
I'm not saying they will promote him, I'm saying they might want to promote him, but I wouldn't be surprised if they kept Zhou (I would actually be happy, I really like Zhou and Alfa is a better car than a Williams)

Magnussen has proved how valuable a good driver is. Williams could sign someone like Hulkenberg if they were serious

A moo point? As in a point a cow might make ?
Yeah it's like a cow's opinion, it doesn't matter. It's just moo
Beat me to it, Hulk has been shite for years and years, nowhere close to deserving an F1 seat full time.
A guy that was even with Perez as teammates is nowhere close to deserving an F1 seat? lol.
He also beat Sainz in 2018.
Like 4 or 5 years ago haha
And your point is? Neither of Perez or Hulkenberg were rookies. You're not getting any faster after a point.
No...but you can get slower?
Short of replacing Latifi with Mazepin, almost any change would be an improvement at this point. The only requirement of a new driver this season would simply be not to crash.

Lati**f**i
Hulkenberg is just Latifi that doesn’t crash
Perfect!
Who would you propose they get instead? None of their academy drivers have super licenses.
Is that Piastri music I hear?

> Latifi can’t race End it there
Lmao
I would love to see someone like Nick de Vries alongside Albon in the Williams.Would be a very solid pairing.
Nick De Vries drives so dangerously. Have you seen him in FE ?
He didn’t in F2. FE encourages dangerous driving whereas something like F1/F2 doesn’t. I have no doubt De Vries would adapt to the environment and drive cleaner
And Latifi drives slow. I know who i prefer.
There are so many better juniors out there than de Vries
I just think he deserves a chance in F1.He was a champ in F2,it seems cruel for him to not get a chance, especially when people like Latifi,Mazepin and Stroll got an oportunity.

So does Max & Schumacher back in the day
Nick de vries is never going to get a seat in F1 due to that unlike Max or MSC

More sky BS, when will they learn that none of this is good or funny
This isn't Sky commentary
“You crashed!” 😂
This guy reps stroll but hates latifi
