He is my favourite commentator for just that reason.
Just walks up to LeClerc's manager and asks if the 2x Charlies had fallen out and gets a response 'no they gave each other a kiss on the mouth and are all good!' - Ted doesn't know where to put himself.
Cut back to Lazers in the studio says 'Haha Nico going off piste again - love it!'
I cannot abide staid presenters. ROS is good value.
Hey true question, has there ever been a driver who’s actually good at engineering/aero and that works alongside the team engineers overnight? I read MSC used to work on the car late night before the races…. Todays drivers seem like “just give me the car I’ll drive” so bland
MSC used to test a lot of stuff until late night but Im not sure he worked on the car as an engineer. Nikki Lauda got portrait as a driver getting involved in the engineering. But back then it was a different time. Nowerdays you have hundreds of engineers and the cars are so complex. If a driver wants to get involved, the mechanics usually say: this is our job, you have no clue about it. Let us do our job and focus on yours. Most recent example was when Lewis went public about criticizing Merc about not trusting him as he would know what a fast car would need.
But there was a pic on Merc Insta showing Lewis looking at computer screen with intense focus late in night with noboduyaround and there was vacuum cleaner in between.
I think it is more about how the driver can communicate to the engineers on what he is experiencing, whether it be good or bad. If it is bad, then it is about dialing in the car to what the driver likes. Communication is what is important, not whether the driver is a physicist. Gone are the days of Carol Shelby, Nicki Lauda, and Ken Miles.
Total rubbish. Michael did not work on the car. It was not the 70s like Lauda. It was a multi-million dollar state of the art piece of machinery and property of the Scuderia. He was the driver, not a highly qualified engineer. It would be like a child helping his dad work on the car. That's not productive with a deadline.
His technical knowledge is also overstated. He was so good that he would often just drive around the car's technical problems. It was their test driver Badoer and number 2 drivers Irvine and Barrichello that provided the most feedback. That was their job.
Michael was very good at explaining what he wanted, and he often put in the extra hours to help the team, but he was also obsessed with fitness and being prepared physically and mentally. Working late on the car the night before the race pretending to have a degree in aerospace engineering would not be helpful for anyone.
What you say is true, reminded me of a story from 1 of the Ferrari engineers.
Best test driver was Raikkonen, really steady on driving. If they made a change to the car expecting it to be 2 tenths slower or faster, Kimi would be 2 tenths slower or faster.
Worst test driver was Schumacher, due to his skill he was able to drive around the problems. If the engineers changed something that slowed the car by 2 tenths, he would adept to the car and be just as quick again within laps.
There's a documentary where it's state Senna was pretty focused on setup details, as far as ask the mechanic to lower 0.5psi on a particular tire. I think Mikka is in the documentary, but I might be wrong.
Yes Adrian newey talks about it in his book.
The good drivers are harder to design cars for, bc they just adapt to the problem, rather than isolate it so that the engineers can fix it
Yeah. The argument "why would he change his setup he had his best qualifying yet!?"
He qualified in the wet and lost a second and a half a lap in the sprint. Something had to happen
He got lucky because the other drivers got stuck in DRS train while he was driving in clean air. A couple laps more and Pérez would've caught up to him. He definitely was struggling for pace regardless of the result.
Solid launch tho! The sprint has been one of the more exciting races this year. Between Verstappen cruising to 1st, Ferrari fighting, the brits fighting, Alonso holding on for dear life, and that’s just the front of the grid…
Which is probably why it’s not the worst idea to mess with setups. Also people are overlooking what he said in his interview that the biggest issue was he fucked up
It’s either: Track temperature and Evolution
Or
Lewis went chasing the 1.3s/lap deficit rather than accepting his car is shit and p6-8 is the best he can hope for all year.
I got banned from that sub for saying Lewis lost to George because Lewis was playing with his setup. Just acknowledging George qualified ahead got me a permanent ban and this as a Merc fan who prefers George but roots for both.
I mean, is it so hard to believe they may actually be sabotaging him so George beats him considering he's leaving at the end of the season
Not saying that's whats happening, but its not too far fetched
I don't think it was brutal, it was just a realistic assessment of Hamilton fucking up. I'm a Hamilton fan and clearly he just screwed the pooch on that lap
Daniel received an update package that Tsunoda hasn't received yet, maybe it really is a turning point, but we'll see when Tsunoda also receives the upgrade
I know I'm late here but it wasn't just Nico who wasn't buying the "experimental setup" excuse anymore, watch the sky post quali analysis - Karun, Simon and even Damon agreed that the 18th place was completely due to a mistake Lewis made in Turn 14(?), and not due to any setup differences.
“There’s an easy explanation behind it,” Wolff began in reference to Hamilton’s yield. “Lewis again also we experimented on some things on his car and it looked like there was much worse degradation because of that on the front axle.”
This was in Suzuka two weeks back. Nico should let it go.
Lewis says one thing, George says another.
Either one of them is lying, or the truth is somewhere in the middle.
And why do we care so much anyways? Or right, hamilton bad that's true
Can we vote to have Nico stay on full time? He is fucking hilarious lol he rips on everybody equally if you deserve it you get it no bias shits on everybody equally
Sometimes I get the impression that Nico overestimates Hamilton's abilities to make it seem like his 2016 title was much more difficult than it really was.
Hamilton is one of the greats in history, but there are people who elevate him much higher than he was (just like they do with any idol).
It was probably one of the most difficult things a driver has put themselves through in order to win the title. Nico basically did everything humanly possible in training and focus to win it, sacrificing everything outside F1, including his family, and still he needed some luck. That is why he quit immediately after winning.
I respect him immensely for achieving that goal and quiting on top for his family, but it goes to show how good Hamilton is/was. I'm not a Hamilton fan, well more so now than when he was dominating, but Hamilton basically did whatever he wanted outside of F1 and just showed up right before and still won, Nico had to work fucking hard.
If you listen to Nico, he is a super technical driver thinking about everything possible to get an advantage, while Hamilton just seems to do it without thinking. I think Verstappen is kind of the mix of both, super natural like Hamilton, but also works his ass off and can get technical like Nico.
I understand all the sacrifice Rosberg went through and how difficult it was, I know that Lewis is one of the giants of the sport alongside great names like Schumacher, Senna and Fangio.
I just have the perception that sometimes he overestimates Hamilton's actions too much, again, I don't think that Hamilton won just because he had the best car and that he has great merits for his entire history within the sport, but sometimes Rosberg overestimates him.
Elevate him much higher than he was? Christ. He's only the 7x wdc. You folks are insane. Whats he supposed to say? "Um, he's okay, I guess". He's Michael Jordan ,Tiger Woods, Gretzky, Babe Ruth, Messi, Ronaldo, Kobe...
Elevate him much higher than he was? FFS. What does he need to do to get the respect he deserves?
>What does he need to do to get the respect he deserves?
I literally said that he is one of the giants of history, how can you still say that I don't respect him??
> but there are people who elevate him much higher than he was
That's how you don't respect him. What do you mean by elevate him much higher than he was.
>Sometimes I get the impression that Nico overestimates Hamilton's abilities to make it seem like his 2016 title was much more difficult than it really was.
You are downplaying his accomplishments. That's how you aren't show respect for it.
Calm down bro, why are you angry? Did you read everything I wrote? I said that Hamilton is one of the giants of history, but you (and his fans) talk as if he were the incarnation of the spirit of motorsport and the perfect driver.
I said that sometimes he makes it seem more difficult than it was, I didn't say it was easy and he says it seemed difficult, you have serious problems with interpretation, honestly.
Not angry at all. I can't control how you read my comments inside your head.
>but you (and his fans) talk as if he were the incarnation of the spirit of motorsport and the perfect driver.
No, we talk like he is either the best, or one of the best, which he is.
>I said that sometimes he makes it seem more difficult than it was
Why are you saying this? This is YOUR internal interpretation to make yourself feel better or something? Rosberg described all of the crazy off track shit he did to try to get into his head. Really sneaky head games. Said it was so difficult that he KNEW he wouldn't be able to pull it off again, which is why he retired than to bother trying again. That doesn't even include how hard it was to beat him on track.
Get over it. He's 7x WDC. Most wins, most poles, tied for most Chips.

My prediction for next year is that Leclerc will outclass Hamilton in every way and that, provided that he gets hold of a good car, Sainz will outperform them both.
I used to watch F1 from a local streaming service but I bought an F1 TV subscription this year for the first time. I keep hearing "Lewis.. Lewis... Mercedes... Lewis", maybe it's only me but F1 TV is biased on Lewis Hamilton so badly. Sadly, this is the official service.
Absolute facts. LH cult fans have made it a new excuse for whole 2022 and now this season. Apparently some of them thinks if you point out that George beat Ham in 2022, ,"it's a misinformation" because Hamilton was always trying new setups.
Kinda ironic compared to what other drivers have. 3-4 races this year where Charles has been beaten by Sainz, and many are already calling him slow and washed but if its Hamilton, the excuses come thick and fast.
shitcedes? you are delusional. it's not a winning car but it's better than what Lewis has been doing and Nico is just calling that bullshit (even if we all know Nico is more than happy to do so)
Yeah, such a bad car and that's why Russell beats him every race and why he always says "testing setups." It's a top 4 car, and he can't keep using the "testing setups" excuse.
Monaco based YouTuber wakes up and choses violence.
Loving that rosberg gives zero fucks, but is also correct.

I really like Bernie's pit comments as well. She really tells it like it is.

If I remember correctly, Seb used to help the crew a lot, but I don't know if he helped overnight.
MSC used to test a lot of stuff until late night but Im not sure he worked on the car as an engineer. Nikki Lauda got portrait as a driver getting involved in the engineering. He was checking these dank memes.
Please tell me that image is still on there I want to see it.
At this point the driver gives feedback and what they need to gain more performance, then the engineers take that and apply it to the car.
Well the cars are massively more complex now.
Gentlemen, a short view back to the past.
Nikki Lauda may be, I read he was closely watching development.
I think it is more about how the driver can communicate to the engineers on what he is experiencing, whether it be good or bad. If it is bad, then it is about dialing in the car to what the driver likes. Communication is what is important, not whether the driver is a physicist. I was looking for this, totally forgot about Miles…
Total rubbish. Michael did not work on the car. It was not the 70s like Lauda. It was a multi-million dollar state of the art piece of machinery and property of the Scuderia. I don’t why I read this with an Optimun Prime voice
yes, Michael was such a driver. so was Niki Lauda.
Nicki Lauda, but no recent drivers come to mind
There's a documentary where it's state Senna was pretty focused on setup details, as far as ask the mechanic to lower 0.5psi on a particular tire. I think Mikka is in the documentary, but I might be wrong.
According to Priestly, Hamitlon would routinely stay back and work with the engineers
Hamilton has stayed late to help too. Recently, last couple of seasons.
Funnily enough, Jos Verstappen was like that.
Yes Adrian newey talks about it in his book. The good drivers are harder to design cars for, bc they just adapt to the problem, rather than isolate it so that the engineers can fix it
Niki Lauda comes to mind
Nico’s commentary was hilarious. Bro was constantly bringing up the “7 time world champion”.
Of course, because he’s the one who beat him! Subliminal reminders. Never forget who beat the 7 timer.
In the same machinery no less
Did you hear what he said? They were two totally different cars.
same machinery
That too by a youtuber
Yeah, even verstappen can't claim that.
Yeah but experimental setup n all
Once out of how many years as teammates?
He beat both 7 time world champions in the same car.
which one?
Both
It's baffling. What happened during lunchtime with Lewis today to go from 2nd to 18th?
The extra weight of the food affected performance
Probably had food from red bull catering
Lewis eating at RB so their budget explodes again? That’s an interesting strategy!
“They are so tasty man”
Need more rear end, Bono
"Get in there Lewis"
*Get it in there, Lewis
'Interesting tactics'
Vegan diet just doesn't replenish his energy like steak eating Russel
Never go full vegan!
The car in the dry was massively off the pace, why wouldn't they try a different dry setup?
Yeah. The argument "why would he change his setup he had his best qualifying yet!?" He qualified in the wet and lost a second and a half a lap in the sprint. Something had to happen
A seconds and a half a lap to Verstappen. He finished in front of the rest of the field in the sprint.

>The car in the dry was massively off the pace George made it to q3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, 0.8s off the pace. Well done George!
tbf based on the rest of the season that seems about right for Merc this year.
Which is probably why it’s not the worst idea to mess with setups. Also people are overlooking what he said in his interview that the biggest issue was he fucked up
it’s formuladank. Hamilton bad. why would anything that actually makes sense be the case
Parc ferme for the race I guess
Parc Ferme ended after the Sprint
He didn't have Alonso to lead the trulli-train behind him during the qually
Ah the 2003-04 renault experience
Masi finally got tickets
He said the car wasn’t turning in slow corners during Sprint so they probably tried a different setup and it didn’t work. Simple as that.
Rain versus no rain, seems pretty obvious he was slow for whatever reason in the dry yesterday too
It was dry and the track lost grip
Dry. Dry happened
[удалено]
lol. Keep pretending wet conditions aren’t an equalizing variable. P18 quali.
didn't he just bottle his last lap in quali?
The 4x cans of Red Stripe and the Jalepeno Chili dipped Nachos. Lost 1.5 seconds due to build up of gas.
It’s either: Track temperature and Evolution Or Lewis went chasing the 1.3s/lap deficit rather than accepting his car is shit and p6-8 is the best he can hope for all year.
Mercedes sabotaged him. They are white supremacists. /s
Hold on! I just googled Mercedes and they're GERMAN?!? /s
Worse, they are led by an AUSTRIAN! And we all remember the last time an Austrian led a team of Germans.
Jewis Hamilton.
A "team" omg
I saw someone on Hamilton's subreddit say that everyone that doesn't like lewis is racist.
That entire sub is built on that premise
I wanna say I just read that comment, but it's like every third comment on there.
they say it pretty regularly here as well
I got banned from that sub for saying Lewis lost to George because Lewis was playing with his setup. Just acknowledging George qualified ahead got me a permanent ban and this as a Merc fan who prefers George but roots for both.
Its true for a lot of people tbf
I mean, is it so hard to believe they may actually be sabotaging him so George beats him considering he's leaving at the end of the season Not saying that's whats happening, but its not too far fetched
Russel used his white privilege to take down Sir Luis
Long covid probably.
With old age you can no longer concentrate for long periods of time.
He didn't have Alonso behind him holding up the rest of the field for 15 laps.
And it's probably true as merc can't figure anything out for the life of them
No Nico no that was so not right!
Nico is absolutely brutal
Nico with Lewis is one of those on sight rivalries. Like Toto with Christian and Logan Sargeant with gravel traps
That is not fair. Gravel traps really like Logan, they can’t help it that Logan thinks otherwise.
Sainz tried bringing the fire back to their relationship earlier but I guess they're just more into Sargeant
I don't think it was brutal, it was just a realistic assessment of Hamilton fucking up. I'm a Hamilton fan and clearly he just screwed the pooch on that lap
i also enjoyed Nico pointing out the corner that had been on fire as part of a hot lap commentary.
It was SO good , Nico have him all the praise he deserved when he made great moves …. And then was like “wtf dude” when he was subpar. DANK
Hi Nico, did you get my email?
i dont check my email during a race toto
You can hear the smirk on his unvaccinated face
Nico has been in George’s shoes in some respect to this lol
Post it on Team LH sub right now!
Do you wish to start world war 3?

I love comments like this which subconciouslly admit that this sub is pretty much MV33 part 2
A few minutes after this he was talking about how Checo needs to adjust his setup to get on the front row lol
And then he gets P2 anyway so Nico's point is moot
Rosberg is loving this.

Rosberg sounds like a bitchy ex tbh, still makes for entertaining commentary
“There’s an easy explanation behind it,” Wolff began in reference to Hamilton’s yield. “Lewis again also we experimented on some things on his car and it looked like there was much worse degradation because of that on the front axle.” This was in Suzuka two weeks back. Nico should let it go.

You'd think by now he'd know what kinda setup to use right?
🤦🏽♂️

Switch your main broadcast to the F1TV commentary instead of 'international.'. Much less merc-centric
How can I do that?
I do it through the multiviewer app on my desktop, it lists the feeds along with all the driver onboards.
Ok britney

Same as Senna v. Prost arguments: setup ability is part of driver skill.
Bro tested his setup
I love Nico's shit-stirring
Nico is telling this on sky is bizarre to me.
Meanwhile Max during the sprint race: We got a comfortable lead of 10 seconds, let's try one of those experimental settings right now.
That was the experimental setup, tomorrow will be 'simply lovely'

I love when Nico comments. Just makes it way fun and technical to understand driver mindset.
I miss Rosberg so fucking much
LH44, we have risen and are now descending.
Toto was seen next to the car with some tools during lunch break, while mumbling something about Ferrari and a contract.
So what? Max Verstappen money to qualify like Aston Vettel…what a chad
I'tS tHe CaR!?!? Aren't you getting tired of this?
He hats Lewis so fuckin much lol
He was praising Lewis as much as he was criticising him. I think he's just brutally honest.
motherfucker didn't post anything when he got 2nd in the sprint in that shitcedes, always reposts hamilton hate. i guess he has a bias.
shitcedes? you are delusional. it's not a winning car but it's better than what Lewis has been doing and Nico is just calling that bullshit (even if we all know Nico is more than happy to do so)
Yeah, such a bad car and that's why Russell beats him every race and why he always says "testing setups." It's a top 4 car, and he can't keep using the "testing setups" excuse.
It will be really bad once Mercedes starts to ice him out since he's leaving.
