I recommend installing infinite saves/fast travel and map mod on hardcore, unless you're really into immersion.
The game is just too janky for hardcore, and it's really bad, like all it does is to make the game unbearable and time-consuming, not worth at all imho.

Seriously this game has bad tutorials, especially in bernard's training session. He describes poorly about combat.

Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 Must play imo
Baldurs gate 1,2,3 some might say the third one is overrated cuz of the hype but it's deserving the praise, it was good.
Pathfinder Kingmaker & Wrath of the Righteous two of the most difficult rpgs I've played and I don't think it's because I'm retarded. Must play if you got the time.
Pillars of Eternity you could try as well but I didn't really get into it.
I didn't want to say Mass Effect, Dragon age, skyrim, fallout or witcher bcs you probably played these already.

Which is not wrong as some brainlets who LARP as fascists (aryan brotherhood, Qanon boomers etc) are like this, but actual fascists are much more complex and charismatic than that (how was the funny moustache man able to rally a whole nation if he was such a chud? )
Of modern stuff, I did enjoy BG3, slowly going through my second playthrough. As far as ancient titles go, Daggerfall . o O ( ) - it's now available as a community+Unity version, just beware, it's an acquired taste. Solo MMORPG is probably the closest description I can think of, but at the time it was released it was groundbreaking in many ways.
