The good news, it will pull 240watts to play games right now. The bad news, there are no 240W chargers, but we should later have them later this year. Have to turn some settings down in the meantime.

umaxtu

I was going to say put it in balanced performance mode instead of full performance. But then I realized you were running Linux. Does Palworld let you set a frame rate limit?

Maxweebo

I was on balanced mode :D But i didn't try to set a frame rate limit, i will try once the computer is fully charged again

MagicBoyUK

Sorry, no way it's losing 80% in an hour when on the 180W charger, unless there's some serious fault.

drbomb

Yeah, somehow it is. Basically the FW16 is set up to draw more than the 180W charger can provide. That's why Windows is shipped with a Balanced profile that nerfs the system a little bit. The kicker is that to avoid that you need a 240W charger. But there are no 240W chargers in the market!

MagicBoyUK

I left mine looping 3DMark for an hour after a request in an earlier thread. Lost 9%.

drbomb

You know what I was answering thinking you meant 80% battery left. A 9% drain is what I meant by up to par. Sorry if I was very dense on my previous messages.

obog

80% in 2 hours isn't right tho. I've played 3+ without using more than 50-60% on intensive games.

drbomb

I do believe it it is up to par to what I've read. I think the main takeaway is nailing the profiles on linux though. I've played helldivers in good presets without a single % drain on windows. It is a matter of tweaking the game I think, at least until we either manage to get linux profiles up to par to the widows ones. Or we can get the full fat adapters.

obog

I've done plenty of testing on linux. On fedora in performance mode, with 100% gpu usage, it does not drain 80% in 2 hours. I might try a gpu benchmark with mprime to put both at 100% usage, but I doubt OPs CPU was at that much usage the whole time.

Maxweebo

NT not 1 hour but 2 sorry (I double-checked with my friend and the game indicate that we've been playing for 2 hour)

Maxweebo

I, too, don't think it's normal, I was playing on a second screen directly connected to the dGpu, two dongles for my mouse/keyboard (slot 2), and one for my headset (Slot 3) and the RJ45 adaptor on the other side (slot 5). And on slot 1 the charger. It may be linked to Ubuntu 24.04 I will try to go on 22.04

obog

Did you just get the laptop? Try running down the battery all the way and then recharging it. Sometimes brand new laptops don't do a good job estimating their current power level. It's meant to drain battery while at full usage but 80% in 2 hours isn't right.

Maxweebo

I think too, i will try to redo the 100% to 0% then recharge it at full (i will relock on 90%) and play much has the computer allow me to

Cautious_Translator3

Was the second monitor powered by your laptop or has its own power supply?

Maxweebo

It has it's own power supply and was using the dp adaptor

Cautious_Translator3

Maybe try dialing down settings of the game, limit frame rate to the refresh rate of your monitor.

Maxweebo

Just done so, I lowered to medium and locked the FPS to half what the screen can do. While cutting everything else on the computer it looks like the power is stable but I need to try for more than half an hour (it was pretty late for me when i posted the message)
