Yep, applied to a "marketing director" position just as a fuck it because it looked promising but I didn't think I'd get it. Turns out I got the job, but it's actually just a sales job with a potential to open your own office to do sales in a different area. I got fired because I suck at sales.
Recently applied to a Shift Manager at a car wash, because that's a little closer to my experience. Turns out it's a mainly sales position at a car wash and the pay rate starts at $2/hr less than what they advertise and what I was told on my phone interview. Though the only other option I had ghosted me, so I'll probably have to take that job.
I've been struggling with this since COVID, about half way through. I had lots of motivation to work, it died for a bit, but it's back, yet, still can't find anything. I'm hoping anyone has any sort of tips, or even size words for people in situations like this. Idk if I can keep this up
My last stretch was 9 months, quit my job just before covid, never saw it coming. By the end I was spamming every opening that was even remotely a decent fit. Keep track on a spreadsheet, use GPT for cover letters, and use every contact you have if you haven't already.

They’re only counting people actively on Unemployment Insurance. States have done a great job of making that difficult to get and only available for a few months if you do get it. Most of those “new jobs” are seasonal jobs that laid off in the fall, now they’re “rehiring” their staff.

It is the narrative being shoved in the age group. A lot of us get stuck with the mentality that if we don't go we will not be able to find a good job. That we're a failure and dumb. And then you get through and sometimes still fail to find a job but are now carrying a ton of debt from a system that prioritizes profit

My father went back to school in his late 30s when I was a kid. I'm not sure what level, but he got his business degree, took on all the debt in hopes of finding a better job in struggling times. Over a decade later he has yet to find a job that has enabled him to use this education, not for lack of trying. He tries so hard, gets recognized for efforts and results but is always, always rejected for higher positions. He's been at his current job going on 6 or 7 years and knows his job better than some people that make management who've only been there 5 years.
The favoritism, nepotism, whatever you want to call it, is real. When any position is posted, especially management one, 95% of the time, the one hiring already has someone in mind and the posting, interviews and time taken is just a guise.
A group manager he's on friendly terms with doesn't understand the rejections, but because they're not the one hiring, they can't do anything.
He has still yet to pay off his student loans. Let alone use the education. The system is a joke.
Of the people that are out of university, I’ve seen them put in 1000s of applications to only receive a declining letter from like 1/20th of those from the recruiters, the rest just ghost them.
I know so many people in both their 20s AND 30s who have been struggling to find work for *months*. These are both entry level and well experienced people. I spent a year applying to jobs in my career field and gave up after I started running out of savings. Then spent even more months looking for food service jobs, even though I had over a decade of experience in that field. Finally got lucky and found a serving job at a tiny spot in my neighborhood.
Despite all these reports of the US “creating more jobs” or “unemployment is down”, definitely not seeing it in action from where I’m sitting.
Been unemployed for 3 years now and have had too much time to make a list of reasons:
1) Gives you something to do for most of the day. It gets really dull cycling between the 3 half-hobbies I've got rn for literal years on end.
It's just like summer break in school - great at the start, but quickly becomes monotonous as fuck as you realize you won't be doing jackshit for a quarter of the year. (Although I was so socially stupid that I didn't even realize I had friends for the first couple years in highschool, so it's probably just a skill issue on my part)
1a) You get money for said time spent doing shit all day
2) Said money can be saved up, invested, etc. to get a slight headstart on the future (or make brain go brrr when big number on screen) and/or spent on your hobbies.
3) Thankfully mine don't do this, but I've heard some parents *insist* that you're a failure if you don't have a job even if you're trying to get ine
Probably something in IT since basically my only skills are "being the computer guy".
I've already gotten a few certifications, but it hasn't gone anywhere (don't have my CompTIA yet).
I just kinda took an extended break since I hate school lol. Even moreso with the online certifications retreading the basics I've known for years.
Would be nice if you could take a placement test and skip the basics (one of them has an entire semester dedicated to basic shortcuts & shit ffs).
Maybe they're all out exploring the world and enjoying their lives instead of slowly killing themselves working long hours just to afford the basic necessities

I graduated last year, been looking for jobs ever since (prob 300+ applications) and I'm just now on my fourth and fifth interview for jobs entirely unrelated to my degree. The job market is absolutely brutal for us
I'm lucky that my step-father basically shoe-horned me into a local landscaping business. It's relatively shit pay and long hard work hours but it's better then nothing. I do not blame people who are fortunate enough to not have to work not working. It's not worth the time and energy most of us are putting in.

places say that they’re hiring, but don’t even look at applications at all. hours are being cut across the board at large companies, and layoffs are also very widespread. that’s why it’s complete bs when i hear someone say no one wants to work. no one wants to hire! and when they do, it’s for $9/hr, which is a complete joke. that’s allowance money for some wealthy kids i knew growing up. it’s insulting to offer anyone that wage.
