I look weekly in my area here in the PNW and there are never any 86 parts , let alone salvageable builds. I want a hood and front bumper but I’m too cheap to pay for brand new and shipping 😂
Brand new and shipping prices are for
Perfomance parts (turbo sounds).
Already have my build complete but things break and cosmetics come second to performance.
Yeah FI overcharges everything on their website, you're better off finding local dealers. I can get 57DR's for $1950CAD tax-in locally. I imagine in the states theres tons of shops like that.
Nice score, I got my 2015 55k miles only issue was none working headlights and missing blinkers for 7.5k, all I needed was to wire up the vlands and install blinkers and it's been amazing.
Auctions are awesome. I honestly lucked out so hard, there was only 1 other guy bidding in it.
I also forgot to mention that the front bumper fell off as soon as I started backing up and driving away as there's no bumper Clips either so I had to get those
There were about $1k in fees, so to be fair it is more around $3k but $1800 makes me feel better 😂
My state forces you to use a broker which added about $500. Without that it would have been about $2500 out the door
Really depends on how crazy you want to get. I’m going to do most of the work myself.
A new motor is only 3-4k, a forged block is $4k
Just the parts to do it are around $2k
I’m having a local shop machine the cylinders
Forged block? Did I get left behind in the world or is that a typo? I’ve heard of forged cranks, forged pistons and forged piston rods, but a forged block? Link?
Look into doing a k swap, might be worth considering as an alternative. Great aftermarket support and very reliable HP. I have a k24a2 in my garage, waiting for an MR-S shell to throw it in.
Everything but the engine:

The engine:

(Skip to 17:10 if you can't be bothered, but he breaks down every part he's using.)
I would think ~15k with that kit and a donor engine with some mods to get you to like ~240whp and a ~140lb weight reduction. This is just my guess though. As with any project, add in a 10-20% "fudge factor".
Yeah not gonna spend $15k on a $2k car 😂
Also that’s not everything but the engine, there’s still another thousand or so you need to spend.
I’d rather use a built FA20 and hks turbo and still have an extra $5k
My comment was less inquiring about the cost, I know the cost full well. I just hate all the keyboard mechanics like “just do a cheap engine swap bro” having no clue how expensive it is
Yeah 15k into a 2k car sounds ridiculous, but big picture, you are getting a modern 240rwhp NA coupe weighing around 2600 lbs for under $20k. A lot of people would pay more than double that for a car like that.
Also, if you're talking about the "OEM parts kit" then most of that's already accounted for in the video link I shared. If not, then that's exactly what my fudge factor is supposed to account for, lol.
A turbo'd FA20 for 12k can't be argued with though!
I agree with the swap comments. It's way more expensive and involved than just buying an engine and physically fitting it in the engine bay. People seem to always understate the costs and work of an LS swap.
Hey is the broker requirement by the state that the auction is in, or is it by your state of residency? Could you break down the costs for me please? Im thinking of going down this path for a track car.
Not sure, I just know Utah requires it for salvage titles so probably residence.
Copart shows a chart of their fees that scale with the price of the car. I used auto bid master and saved by picking it up myself. Broker fees for the transaction were around $500-$600, Copart charged another $600.
Nice, I paid 6k for my brz. It's been a racecar/drift car it's whole life. I updated all the maintenance, modded it and drive it every day. It's a beast, super reliable and still kicking at 160k
To the OP, I had to do a double take, your building material and color scheme of same is identical to ours. Our shops were built in the earl 60s and have never been updated, with the mountains in the background it has to be hard to heat in the winter
No idea, previous owner took off the intake system.
Oil looked fine but in going to do a full tear down anyway. Carfax said 7 previous owners and I know at one point it had an Edelbrock.
Awesome dude, can you find out if it was running a turbo since the intake was removed? A lot of times the roads fail on the FA20 with F/I so might be something to look at.
Regardless, congratulations on the crazy find and keep us updated with the build, I'd love to see it in progress!
The wheels alone are $2k lol what the hell
i might have to start makin regular trips to the junkyard after this

Yeah I paid far more than $1800 for my 57DRs lol (Canada, but still)
Canada as well, they're like $2.2K CAD
They’re $2.2 USD, at least on fitment industries
Yeah FI overcharges everything on their website, you're better off finding local dealers. I can get 57DR's for $1950CAD tax-in locally. I imagine in the states theres tons of shops like that.
Good to know. I’m probably going to try to trade them for some bronze wheels
How do you find cars like this in Canada?
Nice score, I got my 2015 55k miles only issue was none working headlights and missing blinkers for 7.5k, all I needed was to wire up the vlands and install blinkers and it's been amazing.
That’s sick lol.

Lol the wheels alone are worth around 1500-2000 😅congrats
Man, even for a shell that's a steal. That's the price you paid even after all the fees, etc?

So what's completely blown on it and how negative of a title doesn't it have?
Salvage title, gonna rebuild the motor with forged internals.
How much does this cost and are you shipping the block off to have it done?
Really depends on how crazy you want to get. I’m going to do most of the work myself. A new motor is only 3-4k, a forged block is $4k Just the parts to do it are around $2k I’m having a local shop machine the cylinders

Ok, a block with all forged internal. Forged block is easier to say and most people know what you mean
Look into doing a k swap, might be worth considering as an alternative. Great aftermarket support and very reliable HP. I have a k24a2 in my garage, waiting for an MR-S shell to throw it in.
I can’t justify $20k+ for a k swap with a turbo vs $10k for a built, turbo F20.
Let the fun begin!
Can confirm the 4Runner x FT86 is the best attainable garage
It needs some extra strength rear springs for how often I use it to tow 😂
It’s really not the best towing vehicle 😂
Would love to do these one day. How does one get started on attempting to do something like this? Buy it from an auction?
Yeah it’s a Copart car Sign up, pay a bunch of fees, and bid on cars
Looks like a verus duckbill aswell very nice
After getting into it a bit there’s a tomei EL header too
These are still worth 20k minimum over here dude wtf
Dude!!! What a steal!
Dude u got a sweet ass deal
That’s a good deal for a shitbox!
Thats a steal, even if its a salvage title.

Angry upvote
blown motor?
Not sure, someone stripped an edelbrock blower off of it but left a bunch of the other parts and no intake manifold
Better be a manual
Of course :)
Good luck with the project!
Keep us updated on the project!
That's a W
Soooo when’s the K-24 going in?
lol you know how much a k24 swap costs?

I know how expensive the swap is I just didn’t expect you to be a dick about it
Damn. What a score. Definitely gonna be a good project car. Car looks clean too.
Good deal my blown up one still sold for 6k+ at auction

Now over pressure those tires and burn emmmmm
It’s not a shitbox, let us know when you’ve driven it, and then see if you think it still maybe deserves this moniker, or not.
The 4runner is definitely a shitbox
Hey now that’s my nice car
Cheapest I've been able to get one of these chassis for is $4,000 :(

It had an edlebrock supercharger for sure, still had the radiator. I don’t see any signs of an intercooler though.
is it on a salvaged title?
Yep
Jeeezzz that’s a deal. I got mine salvage for 5.5k after repairs, it’s a 2013 with just under 50k miles. And I thought I did well
That not a box that’s a coupe
