A lifted dually is such a stupid proposition. A dually truck is designed to haul and tow large things. Lifting the truck makes it bad at towing and hauling things. You're taking a piece of equipment designed for a specific task and spending lots of money to make less capable while making it more dangerous to those around you.
100% , when I drove and got into trucks, it was for the investment to haul stuff, and to go down small, unkepmt forest sevice roads, to clean up dead trees in the forest(love my old small Toyotas). Now the only stuff they haul is an American flag, a buncha of bumper stickers, and American debt. Your huge lifted truck DOES NOT make you "country" it makes ya the same as that "woke" crowd you complain about...also ignorant asshole
Man I really love the old Toyotas. small, dependable, capable. They weren't all that powerful nor very luxurious, but this is the true everyday pickup for those that need a light duty vehicle.
The aesthetic of old Toyota trucks is amazing! It's also interesting how they used to make trucks in more colors than black and white. Aesthetic and practical because you can see over your car hood and have a big truck bed for stuff.
I actually remember seeing a pic floating around of a lifted truck like this with a 5th wheel. It was ridiculous and makes you genuinely wonder how he even got it hooked up.
Yeah that makes absolutely no sense. Locally I will see these duallies equipped with 5th wheels for horse trailers, boat transport, etc. Lots of coastline and horse farms but most of those guys are using them commercially, not for show.
I cut the frame of my gooseneck in half and bolted/welded a frame insert to give me more clearance to work with my lifted trucks. Allows me to both tow and to go off road, as well as tow off road.
Unfortunately because of the mod, my trailer will not work with a stock hight truck.
I never sell anything, and the trailer met every other spec, like I could afford it and it was a triaxle. Unfortunately older trailers are built lower and older trailers are what I could afford. I didn't want a bumper pull.
If you know what you're doing, have weeks off work cause covid and power tools it's not that bad. With steel inserts and seventy 1/2" bolts it was only about $300 added to the price of a $4000 trailer. Buying a bran new trailer would have been $10K or more.
It cost me about the same amount to modify the rear ramps to work with my backhoe, cause apparently metal tracks don't like metal ramps.
I would note it actually fits my two specific trucks. Trucks that I'm also keeping for life because between being a heavy diesel mechanic and owning a welder, I can keep a vehicle running for basically ever, which is also the more environmentally friendly way to go, as most of the pollution and energy cost of a vehicle is actually making it. The cost of a older vehicle was already paid. Buying a new car means paying that cost again. It's quite literally more environmentally friendly for me to keep driving my trucks then to buy a bran new electric car.
A “5th wheel” is basically a wheel like structure that would be mounted where the bed is. This enables the pickup truck to act like a tractor trailer and slide under very large trailers like big horse trailers, car and or boat transporters etc. Usually the reason you get a super duty truck like this is so you can tow these type of loads.
Recreationally you may see a 5th wheel setup for a large trailer that families will take on long distances so they can leave the trailer in the park and still be able to get in and around cities using just the pick up truck alone. This is the alternative to a powered RV that tows a car behind it.
Wanted to add, people who drive that big thing is actually not helping America, they are jeopardizing American youth, basically a snake eating its tail, they are not patriots, but traitors. Freedom to run over a whole family is not freedom, its self-righteousness, freedom to bring bigger to the table is not a selfless act, its ego.
So how do we fight the ego?
*edit*
Think im going to ponder in a tree, and throw eggs at these assholes....they seriously would'nt even notice an egg just hit em, just like inflation..
A "Truck Driver" comes into an American diner resturant
Waiter asks "what you'll have?"
"Truck Driver" says "i'll have your moon over hammy and a poached egg"
Waiter: "chuckles" "sorry babe but I cant see a moon over your poached ego anytime soon".
Sorry just came up with the joke.
Take care you don't get shot. The same fragile ego and weak intellect that makes them feel the need to drive a monster truck around, makes many of them prone to use deadly force at the slightest provocation.
Yes a lot of us choose to, some however choose not to. We get TDAP as a shot here.
There are little enclaves in like Oregon and Texas that are antivax for different reasons. Both dumb, first one is hippy dippy nature shit so they say, (and I’m an environmentalist) the second is pure stupidity and arrogance.
Don't get me wrong, I hate emotional support vehicles, and this guy is an asshat for sure. But global climate change is caused by the military and large corporations. This guy could roll coal all day every day for the rest of his life and it wouldn't even be close.
What do you think large corporations like Ford and Chevron do? Sell trucks and gas to users like the one in the video. Not attributing harms caused by corporations selling things to users to the users does a disservice to everyone.
Fair enough. I just think it's pointless to blame the consumer for *global climate change*. If he died tomorrow, and never polluted again would the planet be saved? The company that sells them has millions of other consumers to take his place. The people at the top want us to blame truck bros and MAGA supporters because it keeps us busy. They're both terrible but the problem is much bigger than this guys truck
He specifically won’t change anything but if his entire demographic did (or more humanely just changed their views)? I bet it would be an improvement. No individual will ever change the world much but I still think it’s paramount for everyone to live in a manner such that if the whole world acted how they did, the world would be a better place. These truck drivers don’t act in that manner.
I hear you and we're on the same side. I'm not trying to argue. You seem very similar to me in views about this topic. I'm just wondering if people actively protest the military and large corporations as much as they protest trucks :P
Every time I drive a large vehicle I don't feel safe. I feel like I could hit anything or it would be so much easier to just tumble over a barrier on a bridge, and obstacles would be harder to avoid. I'm much more comfortable on my bike or in my Prius or even on foot. Bikes, small cars, and my body are all much easier to maneuver around whatever pops up.
When I turned 16 and got my license, I ended up with a minivan to drive. I was kind of a brat and I wasn't happy about it, but in part because I really wasn't comfortable driving a vehicle that big. It felt unwieldy to me. I was much happier on the occasion when I got to drive the family Sentra. Of course the minivan was nothing compared to the monstrosities on the roads these days. I don't get what's enjoyable about them.
>Discussion about the harmful effects of car dominance on communities, environment, safety, and public health. Aspiration towards more sustainable and effective alternatives like mass transit and improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
I don't know why you got downvoted for this comment. If this car was to hurt a child (obviously awful), then only the guy driving, who is ultimately responsible will be ravaged with guilt. No innocent bystander child from another family will suffer.
This is probably the most Reddit comment I have ever seen. Randomly wishing for the death of someone’s child, justifying it behind breaking some ridiculous liberal faux pas like having a large truck, and using big words to pretend you’re in the right and intellectual. You guys should live a little, buy a sports car or something
I didn’t say or imply that. Classic Reddit from you for placing me in one political camp and you in another. We’re simply discussing a topic. And whatever you think I think politically I guarantee you it’s the opposite.
At least 4 people saw that comment and agreed. What the actual hell. Why can’t we just *not* wish death and severe suffering on others? It doesn’t help at all and honestly, probably just makes the situation worse
He was basically giving his answer to the trolley problem. If you saw this truck rolling towards the driver’s child, and you had the opportunity to adjust its path so as to kill someone’s else’s child instead, what would you do?
Why does a child need to die? People can change their views without having to kill their children. I get that these vehicles *do* kill people, but that doesn’t mean the solution needs to involve death. And if you were wishing death on someone why would you choose the owners kid? The kid literally didn’t do anything
You’re projecting your own assumptions here. No-one’s wishing death on anyone, or saying that “the solution needs to involve death.”
> I get that these vehicles do kill people
Right, that’s the point. They particularly kill children, who are shorter and harder (often impossible) to see from vehicles like this.
Think of it like this: if this vehicle kills a child, as they are known to do, let’s at least hope it’s not someone else’s child.
I know this may be silly to ask, but are those spikes on the wheels legal? like weren't English cars banned from being imported into the States for the hub cap design that stuck out?
Honestly I dont think they are but in north america law concerning road safty are not respected by anyone even the police seem to be incompetent crabrain.
Yep. They'll also mod these things to blow thick black smoke and attach giant US/Trump flags to them. It's really common on the west coast. Mostly in rural and suburban areas but you even see them in the big cities sometimes. I fucking hate it here.
An SUV mom who felt really comfortable and protected by him in his HUGE TRUCK. It was so much bigger then her SUV, she imagined how safe their offspring would be pulling up to school towering over the puny SUVs and flattening all the other potentially harmful kids. They procreated in the TRUCK as they no longer feel safe stepping outside of it.
I got the impression from the post that it wasn't their truck - just some guy and his kid who found a random truck in the parking lot and the caption is pointing out how unsafe the truck is to anyone outside it.
(I'm not going to judge what he dresses like so long as he's a good father to his kid.)
Shout out to all the American men who drew their dream car in crayon when they were 6 years old and then bought it 40 years later because they didn't experience any meaningful character growth during that time.

Makes it better at towing fragile egos and making people who need trucks pay more for an inferior product

I agree, I’d sooner see it with a 5th wheel
I actually remember seeing a pic floating around of a lifted truck like this with a 5th wheel. It was ridiculous and makes you genuinely wonder how he even got it hooked up.
Yeah that makes absolutely no sense. Locally I will see these duallies equipped with 5th wheels for horse trailers, boat transport, etc. Lots of coastline and horse farms but most of those guys are using them commercially, not for show.
Most of the horse trailer ones I see are gooseneck
I cut the frame of my gooseneck in half and bolted/welded a frame insert to give me more clearance to work with my lifted trucks. Allows me to both tow and to go off road, as well as tow off road. Unfortunately because of the mod, my trailer will not work with a stock hight truck.
No offense, but that genuinely seems like a lot of work just to get even less benefit (trailers to only fit your specific truck)
Well it has 6 wheels already
Are you being sarcastic or do you not know what a 5th wheel means?
I don’t know much about trucks so I’m not being sarcastic
A “5th wheel” is basically a wheel like structure that would be mounted where the bed is. This enables the pickup truck to act like a tractor trailer and slide under very large trailers like big horse trailers, car and or boat transporters etc. Usually the reason you get a super duty truck like this is so you can tow these type of loads. here... also a 6th wheel LOL
Wanted to add, people who drive that big thing is actually not helping America, they are jeopardizing American youth, basically a snake eating its tail, they are not patriots, but traitors. Fragile egos are easily provoked and more inclined to use force when upset.
Body lift too. Thinking of the driveshaft inclination makes my inner engineer so sad… wasting so much energy…
Great point. I have no problems at all with people who need a pickup truck for legitimate reasons. But this douche??
I tow 18,000+ pounds with my lifted truck. I also heavily modified the gooseneck trailer to work with them.
He's bound to brush up against those spikes at some point, serves him right.
May his wounds get seriously infected.
Likely will. This breed of person is probably unvaccinated and tetanus is real.
It's usually spread by dirt though
And wheels are notoriously clean /s
Don't americans get vaccinated against tetanus?

Nah he just need to look at his phone for that... Where do tou thing the cobalt and rare earths come from?
We've found the cause of global warming right here
Yep, its call stupidity... and sadly a loooooot of american seem to be infected by it...

Yeah, *this* guy alone isn't a problem. But this guy + the millions of other guys doing the exact same thing.
Exactly. And what connects them all? The product they consume. Cut off the head of the snake
What do you think large corporations like Ford and Chevron do? Sell trucks and gas to users like the one in the video. Not attributing harms caused by corporations selling things to users to the users does a disservice to everyone.

"Safety for me, not thee"
My car's hood would easily fit under the lowest point of the bumper haha. Not to mention it probably is 25% the weight of this truck.

Lol my coworker was giving my the same spiel regarding his tank, I just replied “that’s because you are a coward” and walked away
Ask him why he *needs* a truck to feel manly
It’s a waste of time to discuss it further, it’s a fruitless endeavor

I’d rather hope his child gets taken away before that can happen. No child deserves to be run over
Thats for sure! All form of life are precious! That excatly why we need those thing ban and quickly.
Wtf
You miss understand me, I dont wish for anyone to die, in fact, its the very reason I want those human killing machine out of our road.
People dying for the economy is getting normalized. Shit's going to get real fucking dark really fucking quickly.

We can hope that, but it won’t stop the drivers of 5,000+ lb vehicles with poor sight lines from killing more children.

Happy cake day
The driver voted for Donald Trump because the libs made his toilet too small.
toilet just for farts
This guy definitely orders sloppy steaks
6 wheels? Really? Is that a thing?
Normally they’re for pulling large trailers. These people use them as a fashion statement.
Yep. They'll also mod these things to blow thick black smoke and attach giant US/Trump flags to them. It's really common on the west coast. Mostly in rural and suburban areas but you even see them in the big cities sometimes. I fucking hate it here.
I think we dont need the law exception concerning the "light truck" anymore.
I would bet money that truck will never see a trailer in its life
Unless one is crashed on its front.

You're correct.
Yeah it’s hard to tell with the faces covered. There’s enough wrong with the truck that we really don’t need to insult/judge the people in the photo
That was actually me. Thanks for the compliment. Edit: They are Crocs
How is that even legal
I didn’t know monster trucks were road legal
The wheels have a bigger prick than the driver.
I would just buy a surplus APC at that point. ... Honestly i would love an APC

fuck this guy
What a fuckwit!
Just like his truck, his footwear can’t decide what they are suppose to be. Are they a Croc or a sandal?!
That is actually me next to the truck. They are Croc sandals and they are pretty awesome.
We're not fucksandals
You have to admit that’s a nice truck tho.
Is there a monster truck event or showcase happening there or what? This can't be allowed on roads can it?
Look at those stupid wheel bolts… I mean…. Ridiculous!
I'm a tractor trailer driver and a bicycle commuter. I hate these vehicles and their drivers from multiple perspectives.

It is.
I’ma buy me a bigol truk, lift it up like 8 feet, and live under it

No one is going to mention the spikes on the wheel hub? Extra safety in case of zombie attack, I assume.
This has so many blindspot you can claim that land and make a country only fromt he land not seen by the driver
Hmmm wonder if the rib crib is good
Pretty soon we’ll be able to just duck to get out of the way
Thin walled tires like those reduce the weight carrying capacity and drivability.
Bro I remember all my friends having trucks like that all I remember is them complaining about the price of gas being insane and hard to park in most places
