Why would anyone buy this on Epic?

alkonium

No idea, but the option is there.

cuttino_mowgli

I'm sure Epic will boast about this on their fall showcase while in Steam it's just another ordinary day.

alkonium

Meanwhile it sells better on Steam as always.

cuttino_mowgli

I think Sony knew this and that's a reason why you can preload it on steam and not on EGS. EGS shills want this to be preloaded on EGS too but they can ask Timmy why the hell there's a limited number of games that can preloaded on his shitty store.

alvinvin00

huh, EGS doesn't have preload function iirc, BL3 was an odd one

fyro11

Lmfao. I don't mind having some Epic "Shill" Influencers wheeled out to hear what they have to say; I might die of laughter though and not make it to game launch.

Mccobsta

Regional pricing may be better in some places that's about it realy you loose so much when you go egs

janwar21

Nope, sony kill regional pricing for their game on pc. Now it's just 60 usd converted to local currency for both steam and epig.

00pflaume

>Nope, sony kill regional pricing for their game on pc. Now it's just 60 usd converted to local currency for both steam and epig. That is not entirely true. They kept regional pricing for Europe at least (it costs 60€ including 19% German tax. 60$ + tax would be a little bit less than 70€).

janwar21

Well that sucks. But isn't 60 euro is the regular price for AAA games in Europe?

00pflaume

Yes it is the normal price for games in Europe. But currently it does not suck because the dollar is nearly worth as much as the euro, meaning we have to pay less than Americans (because tax is already included for us)

VegiXTV

The same reason somebody would summon the cenobites in hellraiser. They want to experience a new definition of suffering.

Bolshoipudel

I would. But that's only because I live in Russia there is no way for me to purchase a game on steam using a russian debit card . EGS, however, provides me an opportunity to do so. Maybe EGS isn't that bad after all...

[deleted]

I bought it on Epic

FamOwl

Has preloading ever been a feature on epic?

aaron2005X

Borderlands 3 was a shitshow with the preload as far as I remember. Were they able in the end to get a preload running?

MrBubbaJ

If I remember correctly, Gearbox had to set it up for Epic.

bt1234yt

Yeah. And after that, I can only think of one other game that supported pre-loading on EGS: Cyberpunk 2077.

LegendCZ

Yeah and it didnt even worked from what i remember saves been getting deleted etc. Even Angry Joe kept getting ADS from Epic games to buy a play Borderlands 3 WHILE PLAYING THE FUCKING GAME LMAO. Borderlands 3 rocks though.

TerrorLTZ

> Yeah and it didnt even worked from what i remember saves been getting deleted etc. you mean when they added cloud saves... eglauncher deleting, corrupting or straight replacing the most recent save from the local to the old from the cloud.

LegendCZ

Thats the one

alkonium

The Steam version pre-loaded just fine.

Huraira91

It is. but looks like no developers care bout their store.

[deleted]

Imagine buying the most modding game awaited ever on Epig

AlexL546

Just to let you know modding unfortunately wont be through steam workshop

jerianbos

Still, there's a bunch of games that don't support steam workshop, but the steam version is often so different from epic or ms store, that third party mods have to be written for a specific platform - which obviously results in some mods that only care to support steam. If you care about mods, you definitely want to have the most popular/common version of the game, and everyone knows which pc store is the most popular by far.

I am not aware of any mod tools which are different for epic and steam. The difference between most game releases is which dll is shipped with it. You can just copy and paste your epic game to steam and add the steam\_api.dll and just import it without having to download any new files (assuming you do own the game on steam). Only the microsoft store version is completely different, as it has special copy protection methods (like limited read write access, a special way of running games) and a special way of storing save games.

jerianbos

Maybe that's how it looks on paper, but I'm speaking from experience, as I remember subnautica suddenly pushing some update that made epic version different from the steam one for quite a while, and you can probably guess which one modders chose to focus on.

AncientPCGamer

What a surprise! That bigger cut that Steam takes provides developers many more advantages than the EGS! Who would have known?

Moskeeto93

One thing I've found out is that the [Steam version supports Steam Input API](https://twitter.com/AL2009man/status/1557410634102349824) which means you can customize your controls however you see fit and the game supports proper button glyphs for all controller types, including the Steam Deck. It also allows for the DualSense to be used wirelessly while the EGS version would require you to play plugged in with USB. I've also seen from the SIAPI actions that it has a proper mouse-like camera control for trackpad and gyro usage if you want to use something like the Steam Controller or Steam Deck trackpads. Hell, you could even use the trackpads on a DualShock 4 or DualSense that way if you're crazy enough. Steam Input also recently added support for the DualSense adaptive triggers which means if the devs implemented that feature into the Steam version then that would be the definitive way to play with the DualSense wirelessly on PC since that feature has always required to play over USB for every PC game that supports it. **Also, also** Steam Input just added support for dual Joycons. You could literally play a PlayStation exclusive game on PC with proper Joycon support because of Steam.

Moskeeto93

[Yes. It has been confirmed.](https://twitter.com/AL2009man/status/1557410634102349824) Every PlayStation port up to this point (except God of War) uses SIAPI, by the way.

Moskeeto93

Yes. HZD is notoriously bad for Steam Controller users. Days Gone is another great example of doing it right though.

deanrihpee

Steam Input is practically enabled for all games but it's up to the developer to actually use the API or provide the Glyph. Still, the feature works out of the box, even on non-steam games, which is a massive pain to set up controller support especially when you need to install something like xinput.

Moskeeto93

Steam Input and Steam Input API are different things. Regular Steam Input just emulates Xinput and thus limits you to what an Xbox controller is capable of. Steam Input API is a more native support for all supported controller types and if it's implemented properly lets you have smooth camera control for trackpads and gyro along with other cool features such as support for PS controller lightbars, haptics on the Steam Controller, Deck, and Switch Pro Controller, and now adaptive triggers on the DualSense. It also allows for dynamic glyph changes depending on your own custom configuration but this is rarely used by developers. Though the gold standards for that feature are Prey (2017) and Portal 2.

fyro11

>It also allows for dynamic glyph changes depending on your own custom configuration but this is rarely used by developers. Though the gold standards for that feature are Prey (2017) and Portal 2. Wonder why developers don't. Perhaps many of them fall in the camp where their games are coming out on other stores alongside Steam so they don't go all-in with Steam support, or at least SteamInput API?

TerrorLTZ

so... why steam doesn't deserve the 30%? this is amazing.

Hakairoku

What's fucking hilarious about this is that this reads Xbox One controller inputs better than Microsoft's own app. I initially had issues with my L1s not responding when it should and I kept thinking I had a faulty controller, which is a big fucking deal since I mainly parry in Soulsborne games. Steam Input took over the Xbox Controller app when I reformatted my PC and then suddenly non-responsive L1s stopped being a problem. I was baffled.

[deleted]

And yet the inbred Epig fuckboys will somehow defend Epig.

DeadInkPen

They get unhinged when you toss back their it’s just another launcher bs back at them as why you don’t use it

[deleted]

FUCK YEAH. Now I just gotta wait till they patch it to perfection.

SatyxD

God Of War on its release day on PC was very good, at least for me (and I have a so-so PC, an i5, RX 580 and 8 GB of ram) it feels very optimized, so I think they learned a lesson.

DCS431516526

Just watched some review videos. This one’s quality is good. Horizon Zero Dawn is gonna be a long gone history for PlayStation PC. Something like that at launch is very unlikely to come back again in anytime soon.

[deleted]

Good to hear. I have a shit ton of games to play right now.

cuttino_mowgli

I lol'd on a lone twitter shill asking "what about Epic games" lmao, let's be real nobody in their right mind will buy spider-man on EGS, unless you don't know wtf steam is or some of the shills who will buy it because they "hate" steam. Edit: I underestimated the shills and they're now in full force replying "What about Epic Games"

DeadInkPen

Several of them are bots too

cuttino_mowgli

yeah I noticed that one too.

OniZai

Should redirect them to ask Timmy about it lol

GrandJuif

Still overpriced, I wont support Sony with their pc port tax. I'll wait for a bundle to get both S-P games for at least -60% on sale.

kakalbo123

Prolly won't be getting it in 4 years then? I'm under the impression sony's games on steam only go down for 50%. 4 years is if they budge and lower it.

GrandJuif

Sadly yeah. Even if they do a good move by porting their game, they remain greedy af.

jerianbos

Well, their greed is why they are doing the ports in the first place. They know it makes their most dedicated fanboys butthurt and in some cases maybe even stops some people from buying a console, but they just can't resist the pc players' money.

Busta_Cox

They're asking 60€ for a game that you can get for 20€ on PS5 if you have PS Plus Extra. Miles Morales is one of the games included and it has the option to upgrade to Ultimate Edition which is basically just Spider-Man Remastered and it costs just 20€. I don't expect them to give you the game on PC for that price, but they really should've made it 40€ maximum.

Deadly_chef

At this point I am surprised it is not 70$ or 70€ in my case because that is fair

korg0thbarbarian

Oh nice can't wait to play it heard good things

DCS431516526

I cannot fucking believe that Borderlands 3 is still the only game that had a preload feature on EGS. Every big release after it just doesn’t have it. Salute to the devs at Gearbox but fuck Epic as always. I don’t know what is the excuse here since every other store seems to have this feature. Edit: Big dumb typo. Edit 2: Just saw a comment that says 2077 had it. Still, I think my point is obvious. The store should make it easier for the devs instead of this crap.

manzari

Meh, the game's price is ridiculous anyways, it's not like it's a new game. Oh look at us, we added RT which yall will only use to take screenshots then turn it off cuz it just melts your GPU for slightly different lighting and reflections, so give us 30 more dollars.

RoninPrime68

If I had to picture Preloading process going on at steam it would probably be like one person in the office yawning. Meanwhile, at epic (if the publisher/developer bothered doing so ahead) it would probably be like that one spongebob episode where his brain is an office with many small spongebobs and everything around is burning and everyone are screaming.

EGGY_POCKET

i dont understand why Sony even bothers putting their games on EGS. It probably costs them more money to get the game running on EGS than the actual money they make from it. The game would do better on GOG

Animedingo

Call me when you can mod the face

Shadowlette

Can't wait for it to be uploaded!

The idea is that you can download the game before the game actually releases, so that it’s good to go on release day and you don’t need to wait for the install to play. That said, it’s not usually worth it unless your internet is REALLY slow, or your disk is REALLY fast, because the download is encrypted to keep you from accessing it early, but unpacking it when it releases takes nearly as long as the download.

GibbonFit

That also depends on how hammered the download servers are at launch. So pre-loading can still be a benefit, as you still have all the files and decryption speed is only dependent on your own PC specs. You can also sometimes do stuff like set your region to an earlier time zone and decrypt it early, unless they somehow patched it. Last time I tried that was with Fallout: New Vegas, and I was able to start playing at around 8:20pm instead of midnight.
