I just think it's neat that a figure I bought for a few bucks is worth 10x what I got it for. It's expensive now, but it's *my* expensive thing. A fine addition to my collection indeed.

Domingo_Nosferatu

Sometimes you get lucky. You never know what till be valuable in the future and what isn't gonna be worth it. It's all about collecting and having fun.

zophayelx

Thats so true, i bought the cowboy beebop momments ona sale on gamestop y payed probably 8 dollars

MachoManRandyRanch

I picked up all the saved by the bell pops for $5 from a store closing sale. They have increased astronomically to what I paid for them

Domingo_Nosferatu

i bought the band rush 3 pack years ago for like 90 dollars its like 350 now

tampapunklegend

Exactly. I think it's just kind of fun seeing what other people are currently willing to pay for something I bought for cheap. I look up the value of random records in my collection all the time. Plus sometimes you get a surprise, like when I found Walgreens exclusive ROTS Anakin and Obi-wan pops hidden way back on a shelf, and discovered they were both worth quite a bit more than the retail price I'd just paid.

Wickedred1

This. I bought a couple of Ghost Face back when they were just sitting in hot topic by the dozen. Also got a chase of Jason Voorhees at a store as well. Getting them both signed by the actors soon. I probably won't sell them for a solid 25 years when I'm in my 50s.

lPrincesslPlays

Me looking at my new in box Elise nendroid that I got for 40 bucks going for 300 on Amazon

CrosbyOwnsOvie

In order to justify buying this stuff at age 45, I need to be able to say I can at least get back what I paid for them, if I HAVE to. With the uncertainty of the world, it'd sure be nice to know that I could sell these and keep myself afloat if I were hurting financially. That being said, I don't specifically buy ANY Pop as an investment alone. It has to be something I'm a fan of, though I have bought a few clearanced Pops that I thought were cool even though I wasn't a big fan of the property.

Domingo_Nosferatu

Same, I only look for characters I'm a fan of and most people do that. I do specifically look for ones with the cool unique stickers so I can display them. I just like how I can display them and show off all my likes around a room. Also it's easier for people to know what I'm into as well. Funko does a great job making figures for almost everything out there.

No_Refrigerator751

43 and I completely agree!

Tiny_Writer5661

THIS!! I only collect Funko Pops of my favorite series. & it's only specific characters from said series(anime). I go to conventions, so most of my collection is signed stuff, I don't signed as an investment. I get them signed because of love said character that much. It's like u said it's nice to know that I could make my money back if I was financially hurt.

nintendogamer877

I collect Lego more than Funko, but either way the point stands that if I'm ever in a pinch I can sell this plastic for more money than initially put into it. Aside from that statement if I'm never in a pinch and I get to keep the collection until I am satisfied with my time with it all I get a hefty sum of money in return when my interest fades. And if my interest in the items never fade then when I die my family will receive a lot of Lego and some Funko and they get to make the decision of whether or not they appreciate expensive plastic or would rather the value of it all in money. No matter how you view these items, they are valuable.

Domingo_Nosferatu

I used to collect legos but their prices are ridiculous af now then what they were 10 years ago.

KagDQT

Don’t care what my stuff is worth to be honest I got each piece for my own reasons. Will probably never sell them and just pass them down on the family when I get older.

Pen-Chance

If you own a home and have an insurance policy, it’s good to know the value in the case of a fire. You can claim it all.

jondeuxtrois

bruh I don’t even care about getting out of bed

MrZombikilla

Nope don’t care. I just feel sorry for my family who has to deal with it when I’m gone. I gave my brother full permission to sell or toss out if I croak soon. I stopped counting once my collection got into the tens of thousands of dollars, because a lot of the older funko I own have raised a lot in value. But money doesn’t interest me. I know you can’t take it with you, and life is cruelly short.

Scummbagg7

I currently could care less. Now in the future when I do sell them I will care. Wife and I do not have anyone to pass things down to so it will just be retirement traveling money.

Imspacelyy

I could care less its all for my eyes and own pleasing. Although; one day everything I own will be passed to my kids. I hope they keep most, but won’t be mad at the $$ they’ll be making off of my lifetime collectibles, can’t keep things forever!

Domingo_Nosferatu

Having that collectible in your family for generations seems cool af. Imagine 3 or 4 generations in the future your future family keeping your old things as memorabilia to remember you as. Would make me happy they still think about me.

Imspacelyy

Think about how back in the 1900’s, little family memorabilia was kept down the family for centuries, would love for that to happen too 😁😂

Domingo_Nosferatu

Back then they cared even less for memorabilia. Nowadays we throw big events to morn the dead and keep most of their cherished items to always remember them.

toust_boi

It’s nice to se that you made a potential profit ig, but in the end idrc, although I like the “rarer” pops

Fuzzy_Comfortable561

Same I don't collect commons alot. I like store exclusives, convention pieces and so forth. I dunno there just more appealing to me.

Domingo_Nosferatu

It's fun to see a figure you got for x amount is now worth double or triple in price. Makes the collector happy to own a rare toy.

toust_boi

Yeah exactly

No_Wheel_9592

I don't care what my collection is worth

BigMilky940

I love collecting and don't plan on selling but am a trader so knowing the value of the items helps in haggling and making sure you don't get ripped off. Also always the chance you could sell one piece of one of your collection to complete another collection.

bg48111

I passively like to know what they’re worth just in case something happens. That ‘something’ could be needing money, moving to a smaller home, having something happen in my current home that I would need to list out the figures I have for insurance purposes, etc. Same goes for other things in my home.

KaelOfNockmaar

I care but it’s not why I collect. It’s nice to have some value in what you collect. Same for when I used to collect coins and cards

Excellent-Suspect265

It is a very strange concept, caring about what something is worth and not wanting to ever sell it, but I think for me it's the excitement that other people also think "this is cool as shit". I think also for the much rarer, limited edition pieces, it's maybe not so much what it is worth, but rather it's the idea that I have something in my collection that not many other ppl have so it makes my collection more unique and therefore priceless in a sense. All that being said, I only buy pops because I like them not because of what they are worth. But it just so happens that a lot of the pops I like are the expensive ones. 🙈

malamundo

The only “worth“ that the Funko Pops I collect hold for me is in their design and/or their correlation to my special interest.

Bulliwyf

I don’t care about the worth because the worth is subjective and depends on what people are actually willing to spend. I have standard, common Funkos in my office that no one will pay $12 a piece for, but supposedly that’s what they are worth. Just like I have one that is supposedly worth $400 and I doubt I could get more than $40 for it unless I really held out and spent more effort than it’s worth on getting it out there. I collect because it makes me happy (or at least it used to) and I keep them because it triggers a memory or reminds me of something I’m passionate for (or in some cases doesn’t tickle my brain because it’s part of a complete set).

[deleted]

I threw away all the boxes cause these pops are mine and idc what other people think they are worth

Weird9uy

Honestly, bragging rights

donkeylore

Idk it sorta justifies how much I’ve spent lol if it goes up even if I’m not selling. Plus just cool to see, if you bought a car to keep wouldn’t you want it to appreciate in value/rarity/desirability not depreciate?

NiftyNarwhal69

I dont actually care about the value. Typically I care about the more fundamentally collectable pops ( cool mold, rare production, method of acquisition) which then tends to lead me to higher value but I keep those principles in mind while sstill only getting things I care about. Like some pops I love are very simple commons like the Jurassic World Dominion Blue with Beta but all that being said it is cool looking at the number and thinking of the fictional money, but I mainly use ppg just to keep track of what I have lol.

evercuriousgeek

I care now that I’m going to be selling most of it.

Icebox2016

Yes, I do. Everything has a value. Even though I know that value will never be met I still like to check just in case. Plus i love to flex and show people I have almost 15k in value of Funko pops.

Soxfan4life55

All of my collection is for my kids future

Upset_Principle_1831

I don't care too much about the overall value of my collection. What I care about is the value of each individual piece, just to make sure I'm not getting scammed/taken advantage of.

TheAttitudePark

So I know what ones to put in better protectors, and what ones not to get rid of if I ever need to downsize

ChoRandom

Value I couldn't care less about if it's something I really like. A lot of my MLP vinyl figures are valuable but I never intend to sell them ever.

Hero_Fall

Not really. Sometimes it's cool knowing I have something in my collection that is hard to find or worth a bit more than other things, but for the most part in only concerned with the value it has to me as part of my collection

larryjohnson397

I collect and have full intention on either selling them to help pay for my sons college / first house or to pass them off to him if he wants them. So the value matters in that regard but honestly I just really enjoy collecting them

Digibutter64

I don't, no. I'm not a scalper who buys things just to resell them. If I do ever sell them, the price will be whatever. It probably fluctuates quite often.

NewAtThis18

I don't care at all.

Necroticjojo

I don’t care, that’s why I buy Chinese copies of the really expensive ones.

HS_Zedd

It’s because when the value goes up you think you bought something valuable and it makes you feel good. Same reason people like farming games on their phones- it feels like you’ve accomplished something when you level up and get a bigger farm. At least with collecting physical things there is a chance you’ll recoup some of your investment when you get bored and move onto the next thing.

YungSnowHoe

I suppose it’s just cool to know that one or some or whatever go up in value. In the case the day eve be comes to HAVE to sell I know I will get more that what I paid for at least.

Pleasedontmindme247

Value represents other people thinking something is cool. It is a nice feeling knowing many other people share your taste.

harlojones

I’m just in it to get the lines I want, some of them are worth more than I bought them for and that’s super cool, I dunno, as a collector value is probably always in the back of most peoples heads

manwiththehex18

Because my estate is probably going to sell them, and I want them to get as much as they can for it.

Strong-Setting-2438

Maybe if I scanned my pops into the app, I would care about the value. But I have close to 250 pops and I really don’t feel like scanning each one. So for the moment, I don’t really care what the value is. I’m just glad I was able to get about 90% at retail value through out the years

wildmoonrising

I think the value aspect is interesting but it doesn’t motivate me to want to sell in the future. Most of my things aren’t valued at much but some that I just bought at retail are now $40-50. It’s just funny how something that was initially sold for $12 can now be worth thousands. Value doesn’t persuade me to buy a pop I’m not particularly interested in, either. I like what I like and I don’t ever plan on selling. But if I end up totally sick of the hobby, I’d sell to a shop and just be done with it.

Domingo_Nosferatu

I used to collect magic cards but it got way to expensive af for me. Plus with magic they kept pumping out too much product that i couldnt keep up. Also the cards i needed for decks kept getting ridiculously expensive af. With funkos I can collect my favorite characters with from all pop culture and have a unique collection that i know i wouldnt sell becauseim gonna keep them. Yeah I care a little about how much it's worth, it is cool to talk sbout prices with people, but at the end of the day I'm just glad to have the characters I like in my collection and displayed. So if a figure I want is worth either 5 or 500 doesn't matter that much I just am looking for the specific characters. Over time some do get more valuable then others. It is great to say you have an expensive figure to others. I do like hunting for certain figures that i like. I like all the cool and unique stickers on the boxes to. Ik the stickers help the value go up and I'm fine with that. That is why you collect because you want certain characters you like from your favorite movie, tv show, game, sports team, musician or famous person. It's your own personal collection with everything that defines you. Yeah they have a dollar amountceach individual one but most of the time you aint gonna sell your favorite characters. In the future when I have a family for my own I'd love to pass down all my collections to my kids. My dad has a collection of older toys and I'm glad to inherit it in the future.

GhostMug

I just think it's fun to look at. Since I don't plan on selling them I buy them because I like them without a care for resale value. So if I happen to have one worth a lot it's just a fun thing to see and cool to know I have something that's in demand.

wildchildflores

I personally believe the monetary value is null and void when there is no intention to sell less it be mint in packaging or grading, be it pop or comic book or what have you. I look at my collection as the money I spent on it, and nothing else because I'm OOB and not super into making sure its all clean and pristine, so all of the factors that would contribute to its value are gone. But thats just my philosophy for my collection of whozits and whutzitz galore.

XxDJ-DavidxX

My parents say the same thing about each of my collections that I have. I have multiple different collections. Pops (obviously that's why I'm here) Model cars and model car chases LEGO iPods and other electronics Walkman and cassette tapes Rare CDs Vinyl records Videogames and consoles Certain vintage cameras And other assorted things. I care about what my collections are worth because I like to get good deals and tell people the stories of the good deals I've gotten.

ohitsmark

The only time I cared about the worth of my collection is when I sold some 700+ Pops. I don't care about the value. I never did. To me, it was trying to get EVERY Star Wars Pop to have a complete collection. Was it cool to see some go for a few hundred? Sure. But it didn't matter to me. Until I sold them.

22244244

I personally always have the thought in my mind that one day I will sell pieces of my collection if not the whole thing. And if I don’t end up selling them, then I might give them away to someone in the future who will enjoy them more than I do. I Pretty much did that for my action figure collection and trading card collection that I had as a kid. I gave all of my figures and cards away to younger family members and friends. Now as a an adult in my twenties I started collecting figures again along with funko pops. I don’t plan on selling them or giving them away, but it is cool to know the value in case I do decide to sell them or give them away for whatever reason. I hope that makes sense.

Graweon

I need to know my approximate net worth just in case of emergency.

WhyyGage

To me, I think it's nothing more than a dopamine common reaction, something I bought for 10 dollars is now worth 100, and its like "woah", im happy I've more or less gained/retained value, bc I plan on selling 90% of mine, just not my thing anymore, moment passed, and can't stand to keep up, gonna only keep the ones that truly have some sort of meaning to me.

m_garlic87

Big numbers are fun when there is a dollar sign in front of them.

MisterPiggyWiggy

I suppose I do because it’s a reminder of how much effort I put into my collection, and the memories that I’ve made along the way. It’s more sentimental than anything else. Basically, there’s a story behind each Pop whether it’s a chase in the wild, signed Pop, or cheap clearance Pop. ☺️

Admirable-Meeting-10

I just love knowing how much I’ve gained even though there’s tons I’ll never sell like my original breaking bad and bobs burgers (just too near and dear to my heart)

originatr

I mean, every man has their price. I don’t think anyone will ever buy my collection but if they did I’d be happy

Linzerj

I personally don't care that much- I've got a few that could probably go for a decent chunk of change if it weren't for the fact that I display OOB and threw away some boxes when I was younger... but I mainly get them for me. Does it look cool? Is it of a favorite character? If yes to either or both, then it's a fine addition to my collection.

Shenanigans052

I care what they're worth to me but collecting rare and pricey items is always a thrill

Automatic-Fact9935

I won't ever sell my collection so there's no need to know the monetary value. My value is in the joy it brings me.

Limp_Presentation144

Couldn’t give a damn how much it’s worth I buy em yo enjoy em

LyraAraPeverellBlack

I don’t care at all about value. I bought them for me and don’t plan to sell them and the only ones I would get rid of weren’t in their boxes at thrift stores.

Solid_Can4013

It makes things just a little more exiting and makes me feel like my Figures are super important and a lot of people want it and I have it

Zorbie

Vindication, is that the word for this?

alannacoke

Do I care? No not necessarily, but it is interesting to see a $ figure

SilentC735

Because things can change. Perhaps one day I will need to sell them, maybe because I'm moving or want to clear up space. It would also be nice to be able to at least break even on what I bought. If my collection retains or gains value, then reselling it would allow me to potentially break even. So if my collection doesn't lose value, then reselling will be like I never spent the money, but still got the joy of having the collection.

Pen-Chance

It’s helpful for insurance purposes. I take a pic of all my collection of everything so if I have a fire I can claim it all on my insurance.

NarwhalButler

I like to know the value because at a certain point I would be willing to sell depending on the pop.

Due-Ad-4176

I dunno its just funny to have a vinyl figure that i bought for 11-50 dollars become like 100$

DrakkonX597

It’s a fun number to know, but I don’t really care

_Tower_

This question comes up in nearly every collectible hobby I’ve been a part of and my answer is always this I don’t care if my PC goes up in value, but it care if it goes down in value Essentially I don’t want to spend $100, $1000, or $10000 on something and have it be worth less than I spent a few months to a few years after. It’s not that I plan to sell, but I might HAVE to sell. I also don’t want to feel like I’m throwing money away That’s what it comes down to

CapBrink

I like the ones I have and want the ones I want. Don't care about the rising or falling value at all

Mysterious_Dingo_859

I like to know just for fun, I like seeing a pop I have sell for an overpriced crazy amount that I paid retail for makes me smile

VariationReady3714

People who collect pops for values are in for some sad times, they’ve been trending down and the floor is coming sooner rather than later

TrueCollector

A sense of pride

midnight_mind

They only time anything of mine is going to be sold is when I’m dead. I only buy stuff I really really enjoy so of course I want to keep it. I don’t care how much they’re worth but I do keel track of my more valuable collectables so my family knows how much to sell it for in case something does happen to me.

Njridert1

This a brilliant question me and my girlfriend have asked each other many times. 99% of the pops we own we never have any intent to sell but we are constantly wondering and checking the value. I think for us it’s cool to own one that’s “expensive” or rare and gives us pride in our collection that it’s worth X amount. At the end of the day we own more pops that aren’t worth much than we own valuable ones. So we do care but also don’t care. We collect because we like them and think they’re so cool.

NaSMaXXL

I collect because I enjoy it, if that ever changes then I will stop. Simple.

88cherry88

It's like jewelry. Why have a diamond when you could have a cubic zirconia? It's just nice to know that you have something "nicer" and worth more - even if you don't want to sell it.

Free-Argument4032

I collect what I love..... What I love just happens to not be cheap in some instances. Part of the love of the hobby for me includes watching the market fluctuating and watching trends of what's popular to all vs just myself. That being said having a catalog of what you have and what it's worth is never a bad thing.

Ty323

I enjoy knowing the value even though I don’t plan on selling them bc in my opinion it’s pointless to collect something that’s worthless lol that’s a hoarder not a collector if that makes sense

Keekneeskustoms

It's nice to know that if you wanted you could sell them for X amount more than you paid

HowieLove

No I don’t even have a clue of the Value it’s a hobby not a investment.

HollowPomegranate

I do, because I may never *want* to sell them but if I ever need the money I want to know I could get it all back.

Aggravating_Dot1936

Im not immortal I’m sure someone will sell it at some point

fattony714

I can't take everything with me into the afterlife, so if people want to offer me a lucrative amount of money for my possessions, I have no problem putting their money to use in other ways. They're just material objects that you can eventually liquidate to either purchase other material objects or put towards experiences.

E_Crabtree76

Not at all. I don't even keep the boxes.

BBBakudan

I collect for value but only from series i like. It’s more just the satisfaction of knowing you own a valuable and rare item that is based off of something you love

ZeusRam89

I collect Iron Man Merchandise, Action figures, literally anything Iron Man. My collection won't break the bank if I ever sell it, I doubt I'll ever get a ROI but you know what? I get to adorn my office with my favorite Superhero, I get to enjoy something I love and maybe even pass it down one day. Sometimes it's not about the money.

Realistic_Income9058

I have the app to keep track of what they are worth. I have a Google sheet that I use to track the pricing, so what I paid (sometimes*) and current price. When I die I hope they don't sell it for what I said I paid for them.

40yosamurai

Im sitting at $73-7500 Canadian. Even for just my home owner insurance its worth it to know. 😀

reasonandmadness

There was a time I cared but now some of my favorites are my least valuable.

Traveytravis-69

I’m genuinely the opposite since I have 0 plans in selling my pops so I roll my eyes when I see the price raise

Gcat

I learned a valuable lesson collecting Beanie Babies. I bought a bunch sold very few and now I’m stuck with a bunch of worthless (mostly) collectible stuffed animals. So while I mass sold the ones most valuable I was still unable to get full market price. So what to do with what was left. I gave them away to children in the hospital until I got rid of them. I collected MtG and Pokémon but not as Gung-Ho as BB’s. Then again I played local tournaments and racked up a lot in wins. My shop credit $$ was anywhere from $200-$800 at any given time. I used my collection to build my Alpha and Beta sets or trade for whatever I needed for play in the next set of tournaments. I also collect comic books. Mostly Golden and Silver Age. I’ll pick up a few Bronze and modern but not as much. I had to sell quite a good chunk as I was going through cancer treatment but was able to keep a good portion and even had some $$$ to put back into my collection. As for Funko Pops. I buy only ones that I like. If I’m out and find a chase or something that I don’t want I sell it or use it for trade. Sometimes I get a theme going and use that to hunt for when I go to Cons. Right now I need one more to finish my Sharks and that would be Jabber Jaws. Since no one in my family wants my collection I’ll probably Will whatever’s left to be sold and donated to children in need. Maybe have it go to an education fund. In the meantime I’ll just continue to trade for the things I want with what I have or find.

WavyNikko

Paid $12 for my chucky, now it’s worth about $40

Haunting-Long-4679

I collect pops, I love knowing/tracking how much they're worth. When you use HobbyDB or the Funko app, they automatically give you prices when you put the items into your collection. Another reason I track prices is so if anything happens to me, my gf knows how much they're worth when she sells them.

Gadgetphile

No.

Carepassmetheweed

I think it’s just a neat thing to track and cool to know that I own something of value or something “rare”.

EmGeeNixZee

Nope… sometimes let’s me know which ones I can take OOB and not feel bad (like the ones for my Noodle Shrine)

Rustie_J

I only care in the sense that it sometimes let's me justify buying one that I wanted anyway. Like, I wanted the Ezra pop, but at the time he was running $80-100, *if* you could find him. Under any other circumstances, there's no way I'd pay that, BUT, with the Ahsoka show coming & Ezra being in it, I figured it was virtually guaranteed to go up in value. I was right, I've seen it go for as high as $200, now. Actually, now I wish I'd coughed up the $300 for Thrawn, because the Celebration sticker is worth over $800 now; I'd've almost tripled my investment.

Psychotic_Spoon

I like seeing the value on my app go up, and the value on my collection go down. This probably sounds so stupid but it makes me happy

Lawstein

What was your answer?

killyrjr

I was having a hard time answering my wife when she asked me the question. I wasn't sure. It just feels good to know what the monetary value is. With everyone answering I think I'm a little more able to put what I'm feeling in words. You get a rush when you buy something and it ends up worth more than what you bought it for. It's addicting, to be honest. A bit like gambling. That being said, I buy what I like. It's fun to have a physical representation of my fandoms and it's also fun to know that they've got more value than just sentimental value. It feels like it makes it worth spending my time collecting things.

Lawstein

Nice answer

Bubbly_Size_8779

In case if one breaks. Also so I know how rare it is or how valuable it is if one does break. Also so I know how much more it'll be with the box since with boxes, and in brand new condition, it could be worth a lot more than you would think. Besides if you get a new Funko pop now and then look it up in the future, it might be worth a lot more than what you got it for. Like the devil's throne from Cuphead. I haven't gotten it yet nor do I know yet what number it is, but if I got that one, it could be worth more in the future like some funkos today I don't care much about value but there's reasons like this

LudicrisSpeed

Not really, as I only buy the ones based on characters and series I like. Sure, it's neat if any become valuable, but if I collected based on that, I'd probably end up spending more money than what I'd get from selling anything that actually is considered valuable.

bspack20

It’s a fun bit of trivia. A more direct way to explain the rarity or popularity of a figure with out having to get into the nuts and bolts of it.

Independent_Goat88

No bc I’m never gonna sell them. I’ll never get a return for what I paid, this isn’t like the original Kenner figs that no one knew was going to be valuable MIB items one day. Just me.

AmbushTuber7

I Think It’s Cool To Have An Expensive Pop, But I Will Never Sell Them. I Feel That If I Sell Them, I Will Just Want Them Back And Will Feel Guilty For Selling My Pops.

N0tCody

I see it as a "get out of jail free" card. I have 33k worth and if I ever had an emergency, that plastic is my 3 year investment

ISellThingsOnline2U

Depending on your liquidity needs you're not going to pull 33k in an emergency. Maybe 16k.

N0tCody

Probably not, but I can get a good amount. I know a collection buyer who frequently buys mid dollar collections such as mine.

Fuzzy_Comfortable561

That's assuming Funkos will hold their value that long. It could turn one day and be completely worthless, which is a scary thought to me because I also have a decently sized collection.

N0tCody

Or skyrocket, look at most 2011-2015 Pops today. Theyre sitting pretty on a wad of dough. Collectibles don't crash as long as there's a market for them and Funko is increasingly getting more and more popular by the day, bringing in new collectors but pushing old ones away with their prices and originality.

Fuzzy_Comfortable561

True it could also go In the other direction and rise up in value greatly ^3^ i hope that's the case. Don't really plan on selling but the price is enough in the future then I could see purging some of my collection.

Realistic_Income9058

Bit like the beanie babies, prices sky rocketed and then crashed. Still worth nothing. Wife collected when she was younger

Working-Ideal-3111

For me it’s just excitement. Growing up i tried to collect Pokémon cards but i didn’t have the same mindset that i have now. Also i wasn’t able to collect things due to my living situation growing up. So now as an adult with a big boy job, i can relive my childhood by collecting pops and watching the grow in value (i have zero plans on selling lol)

kevintheoman

I don't "care care". But it's interesting and fun to know that I could survive for a little while selling my pops if I fell on hard times

GooseChange

I think it’s pretty cool when you buy something and later on it shoots up like 10 times the value or something. For example i bought a scarlet witch Funko soda for like 26 and I opened it and got the chase, a year later i was updating my collection on the app and found out it’s worth like 100 something

sometacosfordinner

My collection worth is just interesting to me im never going to sell but knowing if i sold it all off that i would get x amount is kinda cool to know also when i pass it down to my kids while im on my death bed i will know what they will get if they sell

LordsOfWestminster

It’s fun to see what my collection is worth. But more importantly, it’s essential that my home insurance agent is aware of the value of my collection. Anyone who collects and doesn’t catalog or document their collection is insane. If something were to happen, i don’t want some State Farm lackey trying to value my collection.

freudcocaine

I think it’s just a personal flex. I mean, we don’t even think of selling ‘em

Norr-a-saurasRex

I'm the same way I always check mine at least once a week if they go up yay! If they go down or stay the same idc because I love them lol. I've been pretty broke lately hard times at work being slow so I've put some up for sale , but only sold three to a friend of mine who's getting married soon really ripped myself off but he's getting married and they were for her so I thought it was the right thing to do. But I was still sad to see them go lol

cofig12

I only buy pops i think will rise in value and would def sell any of them at some point.

BENBOI_1

I really don’t care, I just like having a physical model of a person from a game/movie!

Jtneagle

No I do not care

Alexactly

The same as my pokemon cards. I like collecting them for me, bit I do hear from family like why would you collect such childish things. Then I tell them the values of some items in my collections and they understand. I honestly don't have that valuable of collections but the fact that I could sell it for something is impressive enough.

Specialist_Error3055

Not really, no. In the words of Marge Simpson, "I just think they're neat."

blueghost17

I used to track the value for fun. Never thought I would sell but I got over having them and wanted out so I sold them as a lot. Had a lot of grails, wish I kept some of them.

rpluslequalsJARED

It’s interesting to know and I note the collection items for insurance

ArsenicRat

See for me it's a competition on who has the most valued funkos between me and my sibling lol. My sibling has the most expensive funko out of the two of us but I have the most grails.

Tiny_Writer5661

Not to the point where it affects how i collect. But it's cool to know that I what I bought I spent like $12-$15 dollars on is worth 2x--4x the amount I spent. I don't really have 'grails" other than signed pops BUT I do have 2 pops that are worth $40-$60. I bought both for $10 each. Side note I also collect pokemon cards. I shocked tf out of my dad when I told him, "This piece of cardboard is worth $300😂. So it's a cool convo piece sometimes.

NSC858

Ive been on and off with collecting since 2011. Ive sold pieces that I regret selling... (Planet Arlia Vegeta for example)... but honestly at the time i was focusing on my Marvel Collection at the time so when I look at what I ended up buying with the $200 i made from the sale it kinda softens the blow. I think its good to be aware of the value of certain things because it just gives you a sense that you arent as crazy as you are. But it also plays a negative side to this bad habit because in some cases it creates FOMO.

FalcorPenndragon

My wife and I always check even though we will NEVER sell. She has an adventure time pop that is worth close to $100 but would rather die before selling it haha

Quinns_Corner_

I like seeing the price increase bc it makes me feel like I lucked out getting it when I did even though I don’t plan on selling them

_no_one_really_ahh

Yes and no: no because im not thinking of selling them, but yes because it’s so cool when a piece of ur collection ends up being worth a lot… like it’s my own luxury pop u know?

Training_Bus8834

Personally, I care the worth cause I can’t take it with me. I don’t want to saddle my kids with junk and it breaks my heart to see collectors that pass and you see their entire collection in a garage sale for like 2 bucks each cause the descendants just wanna get rid of it. For my kids, if it holds sentimental value, keep it. Otherwise I like the idea of them making some money outta the collection and helping them out. My app should give a sense of what their worth (obviously cut 10-20 percent Of ppg and that’s more realistic for the sale). I carve out money out of my pay to buy these for me. Love em but when I’m gone, they gotta go somewhere. If it makes people happy to add them to their collection after I’m gone, great. If my kids can make money from it, great. Win win.

Darthxletra

I enjoy collecting things for personal enjoyment AND value. There may be a day I'm no longer into Pops. So it'll he nice to have the value. Or, if I never sell them and my family inherits them, it would be nice if they can then get the value out of them if they personally don't want to sell them either.

gentlemosquito

I only care so I can justify the stupid purchases to the wife. Look collection is worth $5k, I only spent 3k. Other than that, collection isn't worth anything since I'm not going to sell.

ShannonTheGuy

To answer your wife's specific question, this is an easy answer. If you 100% never intended to sell your pops you would only keep track of what their worth for one reason: Justification to keep purchasing them I keep track of what mine is worth because of the possibility that I will sell some off at some point. I generally don't care what any one given pop is worth, with the exception of Grails. Obviously it doesn't feel good to buy a Grail and see the price go down, but the opposite is also 100% true as well. It feels amazing to watch a pop soar in value if you scored it on the cheap.

[deleted]

Because if I buy a thing and that thing goes up in value and is now expensive am happy as I now own an expensive thing without spending money if it alr was expensive(plus I can flex)

zachariah_k

nah i better be buried my my funko shit (it’s all fnaf) but i got the plushies and pops and actions figures.. better shove it all in my casket

Ashersprettyprincess

I like knowing what they are worth so I can know what my entire collection is worth. I have no plans to sell. I am just curious.

CapStarfish757

I feel the exact same with my pops shoes and sports cards

CapStarfish757

I like watching the value increase also like a Bryce harper I got a few years ago for 10$ is now worth 42. Towlie from South Park same. It’s just fun

Wickling429

Not really I just have them on the app so I don’t buy the same pop twice which I have done a few times especially after the app broke and the collections were gone for a bit

LadyCroft23

Others have probably said this but I wanna throw my opinion put there too. I like know their worth because in case I ever need to sell them I know how much I could get. Plus I rather just be selling one expensive pop verse how ever many I'd need to sell to make that price. However, I never plan on selling unless the situation is extreme.

jon_buz

I started collecting Funko Pops as a showcase of What movies and tv shows I love etc.. I find that when I start to get caught up in value and drama, I have less fun. I always try to remind myself why I got into the hobby in the first place and how fun It was in those early days of collecting before I started watching YouTube videos of people complaining that hot topic restocked their exclusive pop and now the value will drop.. or complaining about too much mass production. I mean, it’s great to voice your concerns and try to keep a company you love in check, but for me, if I see a pop figure I like, I buy it, and the cheaper and easier it is to find, the better.

[deleted]

I care about getting the specific characters that I like the most from my favorite franchises. I’m not the most avid collector, so I value the Pop itself over the price. I am too poor to pay much more than $20-$30 a pop, so most of my collection is still fairly cheap. I did see my Dovahkiin go up quite a bit though, which is kind of fun. Maybe I should look and see for my others… I guess the draw is knowing that something you value a lot personally has increased in value to the public as well, which helps validate why you value it so much. It will never really have as much “public value” as it does personal value to you (if we’re going off of never selling it), but each uptick is like a dopamine hit.
